My daughter's MacBook was stolen today in OKC and she didn't remember setting up find my Mac. Does this come already set up in the default settings?

My daughters MacBook was stolen today in OKC and she doesn't recall setting the find my Mac to "on".  Is it set to on as a default?

No, you have to set it up yourself in iCloud...does she have an iCloud account?
Setting it up is a matter of only checking a box in the iCloud services list.
Try logging into iCloud: https://www.icloud.com and go to Find My...and see if it is listed per chance.

I need help retrieving my photos from my phone. My phone was stolen today. Can someone help me?

Restoring your iCloud backup to another iPhone would recover photos that were in the camera roll when it was last backed up.  If you are able to set up iCloud on your computer, enabling photo stream would recover photo stream photos from the last 30 days.  This article explains how to set up iCloud on your computer: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/.

  • My Macbook was stolen I don't have serial number to track it

My Macbook was stolen in Lisbon, Portugal, and I don't have serial number to track it. I bought it on September, 2012 on Amazon.com.
I wrote to Amazon and they answer below.
Could you send the serial number to track the computer:
Hello, I understand that you wanted to have the serial number for Apple MacBook Pro from order #104-6894665-3498643. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your pc. Surely, Amazon.com is ready to assist you in this matter. However, I would suggest that you consult the manufacturer first to check as they are knowledgeable for their products.
Please tell them that you bought the item from us. If they want a proof of purchase, they should accept a copy of your order summary. You can view and print an invoice for your orders through Your Account (http://www.amazon.com/your-account). I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
    Best regards,
    Jackelyn C.

If you ever registered your MacBook Pro using your Apple ID you may be able to get the serial number by going to your support profile. Follow the directions in this Apple article -
    Go to My Support Profile*.
Sign in with your Apple ID.
View your purchases in "My Products".

  • Macbook was stolen

    Hello.
Yesterday afternoon, my Macbook (late 2010 - OS X Mavericks) was stolen.
I already went to the police and they're investigating the circunstances on which this happened, like investigating security camera footage, etc. ...
I already changed all my passwords. Also, I went to iCloud, and decided to use the 'lock the Hard Drive' function.
Till this moment, I get the message that my Macbook wasn't 'locked', because he hasen't been contected to the internet.
Exactly how does this work? I mean, I had a password, that was required to access the Finder and, obviously, use the computer. But, how does the 'lock' work exactly?!
Also, in case I never find my Macbook... what are the tasks I need to perform, in other to make sure I erase the Macbook from any information of mine (like iTunes, App Store). If that time comes, I don't want a stolen computer to be related to any of my personal Apple data...
Sadly, I also had lot's od personal documents there... how does the 'erase HDD' work exactly?!
Please, I desperatly need any information I might find, in order to preprae myself for the worst. Also, eventualy, I might buy a new Mac. Excatly how can I make sure that my stolen one isn't 'connected' to a new one, in order to steal any personal information?
Thank you to anyone who might help me.

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • My iPod was stolen today around 12 o'clock today and I don't have a device that can help me tract it so please app can you locate my iPod please. Where I had it last before someone stole it from me was somewhere around Compton but not there. Email or call

Apple hi my ipo was stolen today and I had it or 4 to 5 years I jut or new music on it and I didn't sync it to my conputer in a long time so I won't have slot of things please if you can lock it and tell them the their to cally number or activation location for my because I don't have a backup new device that can help me sorry if there are slot of mistakes back connection oh and if you could report in in for me a lock it or what not.  Also if you can save my things then delete it from that device so they don't do anything that I can't take back thank you and please help me. Oh and the iPod is a 4th generation iPod if they are trying to sell it with a purple case it crashes alot and I have cloud on it. My personal info and pics are in it and they are probably gonna blakmail me eventhough I don't know them please report this in for me.

If you have a iCloud account set up you may be able to disable it, I'm not entirely sure about the earlier iPods. Even a poor thief will have already changed your settings. You can report it as stolen and change all passwords associated with this iPod to prevent a thief from accessing your accounts, computer, etc. As for the blackmail stuff, be careful what you have on your devices! Nothing is that secure. Good luck.

  • My Macbook was stolen a few days ago, says it is locked

My macbook was stolen about 5 days ago, along with my ipad. As soon as I discovered they were gone, I tracked them using Find my iPhone but they both show up as offline. The weird thing is that the computer says it was locked Monday evening before I even got home. Does this mean the thief somehow locked my computer? It is still showing up on my app using my Apple ID to sign in. The weirder thing is that the computer does NOT show up if I log into my Apple ID on a computer to find the serial number. I have called Apple and they say that maybe it is linked to a different Apple ID, but I even logged out and back in to Find my iPhone and it still shows up on that list. So theoretically it is still linked to my Apple ID.
I had a password for logging in to my computer, but not if it was just closed and then opened, which I assume would have been the case. There is a slight chance that the computer would reset itself (it is fairly old, 2008 but updated to Mountain Lion) and then prompt for a password. Would an incorrect password entered several times have locked out the thief?
At this point, I would have just chosen to erase the computer remotely, but since it is already showing as locked, this option is not available to me. I was able to set my ipad to erase if it ever comes back online.
Anyone out there have any ideas as to how the macbook was locked?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
if you are referring to your data being safe, then a screen lock will likely be enough to protect it, if not and you are relying on remote wipe by wifi, then of course it's always possible the thief can acces your data by turning it on and not connecting to wifi.

  • My MacBook was stolen and I need to know the MAC address

An emergency question to Apple support. My MacBook was stolen and I need to know the MAC address of its network card. I have a receipt with the serial number of my MacBook. Can you assist?
    My serial: W8***66D
    Thank you
p.s Any ideas how I can find it?

Report the theft to your local authorities.
Apple has no means of tracking thefts, as thieves themselves may claim the machine is theres just by looking up the information on the computer, and unless you registered the machine, it is really their word against yours, unless you also have receipt or other information that they can track to your receipt against your serial number.
Your homeowners insurance may be able to recoup the cost.
In the future, consider getting Lapcop, or Lojack for notebooks.
    Good luck!

  • Please help me! My MacBook was stolen along with an external hard drive that had all my photos of my children on them. I hadn't backed to iCloud or backed anywhere else. I am distraught. No find my mac either...help...please...

Please help me! My MacBook was stolen along with an external hard drive that had all my photos of my children on them. I hadn't backed to iCloud or backed anywhere else. I am distraught. No find my mac either...help...please... Some programmes are still running like drop of and Skype... Is it all over?!?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • My iphone 5 was stolen today, I had it backed up last week, can I restart this back up on my other i phone which is i phone4? how can I do that as when I plugged my iphone 4 it backed up automatically

  • My macbook was stolen last month from my car. It would not power, it showed a white screen with folder with question mark in the middle? I don't have my serial number, is there a way to possibly track my computer?

My car was broken into in Uptown, MN last month and my Macbook was stolen along with my Wifi device. Although my computer would no longer power, it showed a white screen with a folder and question in the middle and then shut down. I hadn't had a chance to take it to have it checked, but is there a way to track my computer if I do not have the serial number? And if I purchase another computer is there a way to get the music that I purchased in iTunes back?
    Thanks

Regarding your music, yes you can download it again at no cost. Launch iTunes on the new computer, and sign in to your account using the same Apple ID you used previously. Go to the iTunes Store. On the right side under Quick Links select Purchased. Click on All Songs in the upper left. You'll see a list of the music you purchased from iTunes. In the lower right corner click the Download All link. Note that this may take a long time, particularly if you have a lot of songs. Use the fastest Internet connection that you can.
About the computer, unless tracking software was already installed on it and turned on there is no way to track it.
I would suggest changing passwords of any accounts that you have on the computer, such as email. If you have any credit card information stored on the computer, have them cancelled and replaced immediately.
Sorry to hear about your loss. It is very distressing, I know.
    Best of luck.

  • Mu ipad was stolen today and i want to view icloud backup for today. Can i do this?

My ipad was stolen today.  It is not showing up on iCloud.  Can i view iCloud backup for today?   If so how?

Try resetting the Winsock key.  You will have to locate Command Prompt in Windows 8 (in Windows 7 its in Start>All Programs>Accessories), then right-click on it and choose Run as Administrator.**  Once in command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes) and press Enter.  Then restart your PC and see if you can sign in now.
** I saw in another post that to run Command Prompt as an administrator in Windows 8 you do the following:
    Go to the Start menu
Press the Windows logo key + Z to open the app commands.
Press Enter to select 'All apps'.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the 'Command Prompt' tile.
Press the Application key to bring up the app commands.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to 'Run as administrator' and press Enter. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • How can I get the gps coordinates on my ipad which was stolen today?

My ipad was stolen today, how can I get the gps coordinates to report to the sherriff?

If Find My iPhone (iPad) was turned on on your iPad and the iPad is on and connected to the Internet you will be able to locate it. Go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID and password. If the device is off or not connected to the Internet you can send a signal to lock or erase the iPad but that action will not complete until the iPad is connected to the Internet.
If you did not have find my iPhone turned on there is no way to track your iPad.

  • Hi, my iPhone 4 was stolen two weeks ago, and I called ATT to suspend the service. Today, we were able to trace it and it is under a different name.  What should I do? Should I report to police?

Hi, my iPhone was stolen two weeks ago, and I called ATT to suspend the service.  Today, we were about to find it using my iPod, and it is now under a different name.  What should I do?  Should I report to police?  I did called ATT again, and they told me that they cannot do anything, since the SIM card might have been replaced.

Doesn't hurt to call the police.
The SIM wasn't replaced; if it were, you wouldn't have been able to locate it.

  • My daughters itouch was stolen today...is there any actions i can or should be taking so that all the pictures and videos she has taken can be deleted?

My daughters itouch was stolen today...is there any actions i can or should be taking so that all the pictures and videos she has taken can be deleted?

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • Macbook was stolen, how do I restore time machine to new Macbook?

My Macbook Pro was stolen recently. Luckily before that I backed up all of my files onto a USB external hard drive, and I also recently bought a new Macbook Air. How do I restore all of my old Macbook Pro settings from the USB hard drive onto my new Macbook Air? I tried using Migration Assistant but the Migration Assistant won't detect my external hard drive as a time machine backup. I've tried right clicking on Time Machine in the dock and clicking "Browse other time machine disks" but it still won't detect my external hard drive as a time machine backup. I can see my old username and folders (ex. desktop, applications, downloads, library, etc.) but they all have a red thing next to them and when I click them it says "you don't have permission to access this content". My old macbook was stolen so I don't know how to grant permisions for me to access it. What is the best way to load all my old settings from my USB hard drive onto my new Macbook Air?
