It`s a new one and I do everything asccording to manual: Setting Up Your Display and Troubleshooting your display.

  • IMac - Display doesn´t work after restart

My iMac 21 Display doesn´t work after restart. If I turn it off and 1 hour later I want use it again the iMac shows the white screen with the mac logo and then the display goes off. I connected an external display to check if the iMac was ON and with the external display I can login and do everything but the iMac Display doesn´t work .
If I turn it off and wait 3 or 4 hours  and then turn it back on the display works OK.
This is very strange behavior I have spent hours and hours trying to fine the solution or a similar issue but nothing so I am looking help here at apple.com
BTW When I bougth the iMac 21 there were some spots over the display so the display was replaced by the provider. The warranty has expired by now.

To tell you the truth, I don't know if they have to repalce the LCD panel or what they do for a bad backlight. In this reality of block or assembly replacement it probably involves repalcing the panel and not the backlight component. Don't know what it would cost. You'd have to ask that of a service center.

  • Stand-by button on Cinema HD display doesn't work after Mountain Lion upgrade

    Hi,
After I upgraded my Mac mini (spring '09) to Mountain Lion it appears that the buttons on the side of my Cinema HD display doesn't work. There is a setting in sys preferences that should put the Mac in stand-by when the power button is pressed. This doesn't work after I upgraded to OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Does anyone have similar experience. Anyway to fix it?
    Thanks,

  • Apple Store said my display doesn't work but offered no solutions.

Just got back from the Apple Store. They confirmed my iPad is fine but the display doesn't work. It's black. Their only option was to pay $300 for a new iPad. Mine is only 88 days out of warranty and I took it in the store once already for the display issue that led to its ultimate demise. To talk to anyone else is $20. I refuse to pay more for a product that has shown itself to be unreliable. What's the next step? I truly feel wronged. iPad is in perfect physical condition.

I took it in in May of last year. The screen has black bars flash, the screen goes black for a moment, and then it comes back on. It can be days between the issue. When I took it in, it didn't do it. I had to wait forever even with an appointment. I didn't want to take it back in even though it has been having the issue all along. There was no way of knowing when it would happen. It finally flashed and never came back on.

  • New motherboard in GT680 - display doesn't work!

    Hi!
I had to replace motherboard in my GT680. I've put ms16f21 version 1.2 in, the only difference between new and old motherboard is the version. 1.1 is used in GT680, and 1.2 is used in GT683. I've read somewhere there's no difference between these motherboards, so my GT680 should work with version 1.2.
And it turns out my display doesn't work now . Does anybody know what might be wrong? I've checked connections and battery on motherboard, and everything seems to be placed where it should be.
I thought it may be because of my graphic card. I've got 460M (standard for GT680), and GT683 usually have 560M. Do you think I might have to upgrade gpu too?
Ps. Please don't tell me it's best to ask MSI support, I wouldn't write on forum it that solved the problem .
    Thanks in advance:)

Defective motherboard is quite likely, I just wanted to rule out any other possibility before I contact a seller I'll do one more test tomorrow, I'll put the old motherboard back. If it works, new board is probably damaged and I'll have to contact seller. If old board doesn't work either, then I messed up something when putting laptop together (or another component magically decided to die)
I'm not sure if MSI would replace it, I bought it second hand on ebay, and both warranty seals (on case & on graphic card) are broken :/
The seals being broken won't void the warranty, as long as there is no internal user caused damage they will cover it. I just don't know what the coverage is for second hand.

  • My iMac Display doesn't work!

I hear the sound when he starts but the display stays dark! why?
    Please Help me!!!

First, detach any peripheral devices except keyboard/mouse. Then reset the SMC:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If that doesn't change anything, follow the steps in this Apple note: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 . When you get to the section on using Disk Utility to repair the disk, use Lion recovery mode by booting with command and R held down. Assuming of course by then you can view something on the screen. If the screen still doesn't work, take it in for service.

  • IMac 17" Intel CD: display doesn't work

    ciao,
today when I switched my iMac on the display remained dim, just like if it was off, while everything else worked OK.
so the display was black like it was off, but then I noticed that if I looked very carefully I could see the login box and I managed to log-in.
to cut the story short: the iMac is working OK but the screen is so dim it looks like it is off.
what can I do? Apple support chat told me to try to reboot the iMac pressing Command-Option-P-R, and that this doesn't work it is an HW problem: any other suggestion/reccomendation?

Try the F14 & F15 buttons. Those control the brightness of the screen. That should be able to solve that problem. I had that thing before until I messed with the keyboard and "discovered" it.

    Hello everyone,
My macbook pro 15" suddenly turned off. Now i tried several time to switch it on and seems it is working but the display doesn't function or there are many wired pictures coming up sometimes.
can anyone please help me with this issue?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your Mac can't find any bootable partition.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Select Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the disk. If it doesn't work, take the Mac to an Apple Store.
Also, open  > Startup Disk, select Macintosh HD and restart. Maybe your Mac has forgotten the startup partition

  • Why Detect Displays doesn't work anymore?

I use my PB to watch movies using my TV and the S-Video to RCA cable, but since the last upgrade 10.4.6 the Detect Displays option (in display menu bar AND preference pane) doesn't work.
The TV shows a dimmed image of what's suppose to show and sometimes it appears vertically distorted.
I disconnected the S-Video cable and restarted the PB but it still shows that "something" is connected to the s-video port.
Which files should I delete to "reset" video preferences?
    UPDATE: PRAM reset didn't work...
    Thanks in advance

Well, the cable can't be the problem, because the computer is "stuck" with a two monitor configuration, even without the cable plugged in, that's why im guessing there's some kind of switch (i hope) that i can reset so the mother board stops thinking i have another display plugged.... the second problem is that if i plug the s-video to rca cable (that came with the laptop) i can't get a clear tv signal from it... it's distorted.... i'll probably open up the computer and check the s-video port... wish me luck.

  • MacBook Pro display doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
My MacBook Pro's display has been working erratically in the last weeks.
The first time, the display did not work for two day. Second time for almost a week (during Easter) and now for three days.
I've never had any hardware related issues with my old Apple computers, so this is very strange to me.
I've already followed the instructions posted here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300537
The computer seems to work normally, I can hear the startup chime and the drive spinning if I get close to the machine. The problem is the display or the graphics card.
I am in Peru at the moment and contacted the local Apple Reseller and they've told me it takes approximately 60 days to have it repaired. I'm thinking about flying to the US to have it repaired quickly, I can't wait that long.
    My Mac's specs are:
    MacBookPro3,1
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz 2 Cores; 4MB L2 Cache; 4GB RAM; 800MHz Bus Speed;
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B00

    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Quartz Extreme: Supported

Has anyone had a similar problem? Were you able to solve it without taking it to Apple?
    Thanks for your help!

I am going to chime in because I had the problem, did an archive and install which fixed the display problem but a display issue is back again! When I did the Archive and Install, I purposefully did NOT install the graphics update. That fixed the issue until yesterday...... I think the monitors worked alright when I started up in the morning but later in the day, I noticed that the external monitor (SyncMaster225BW) was a yellowish color and the letters were distorted. Ok, so I unplugged it and previously when I unplugged it (since the Archive and Install anyway), the MBP display would go blue but come right back on. Not so yesterday. It stayed blue so I had to press the power button to get it to go off. Booted up and came on. Plugged the external monitor in (can't remember if I plugged it in while it was shut down or after) and it worked fine. Booted up this morning and the resolution and color on both monitors was yellowish and not right. In fact "mirroring" was turned on, something that I did not choose. Recalibrated my MBP monitor. Got that right. Oh, and yesterday and today, I had to choose my background pictures for both monitors. Couldn't get the external monitor to work right so unplugged it which caused the MBP monitor to go blue and stay blue. Had to reboot again. Left the external monitor unplugged. Started writing this post and plugged in the external monitor again and all is right. Both have the correct background picture and resolution and in the menu bar, both are listed with the correct names (first thing this morning they weren't named Color LCD and SyncMaster). So anyway, that is my display woes. I was so happy that all was well after doing the Archive and Install and not doing the graphics update but something else is going on now. Not sure what. Hope this issue gets fixed soon! Please Apple....... Judy

  • Mac book display doesn't work anymore

I normally use my mac book 2011 with an external display. However, for the past few days, the macbook display is not working. The computer boots up, but will only display on the external display with the lid closed. How do I fix this?

    Thanks for replying.
Are you referring to an F2 key on the MacBook?  As in, "did I try brightening the MacBook display"?
If so, yes I have.  If I. Completely darken (F1 key) then brighten the MacBook display using the F2 key, I get the same less-than-one-second result before screen blanking.  The display is actually still there, but completely inlit.

  • Display doesn't work after latest security update

I have three Apple displays with my MacPro, and after installing the latest security update, one of them just stopped working.
The status light is still on, and my usb devices connected still function, but I have a black screen and nothing is recognized in the displays system preferences.
Anyone else experience this? Did my display just die?

    Ut-oh!
    FWIW:
My 7-year-old 22” Cinema Display, on a 10.4.11 machine, with nearly constant use, now becomes so dim during the screen saver mode that regardless of which saver I use, it becomes no longer visible.
As soon as the screen saver is activated, I have full brightness (though not as bright as when the display was new), then it gradually fades until the screen is all black.
Upon awaking, the screen is very dim, and then, over a 90 second period, it slowly returns to normal brightness.
    1. The brightness control is set to max.
    2. I have toggled the brightness control and changed screen savers, both to no avail.
    3. Recalibrating the display did not work.
This seems to have occurred on the same day I installed the latest Apple Security Updater.
    Very weird...

  • Display doesn't work after power outage

The electricity was knocked out in my neighborhood for a few hours and when it was finally restored I found that my display no longer works. It is getting no power at all. None of the lights on the front of the display are working--it's totally dead.
No settings or connections were changed during the time when there was no electricity. So it's obviously a result of the power outage, right? I had it plugged into a surge protector (which I thought was supposed to be a safeguard against exactly this type of occurence) so I'm wondering if that has somehow saved me--only there's some secret Mac trick that needs to be done to get my display back to life.
Can anyone please help me? This economy is strangling me to death--I simply cannot afford to buy a new display at this point.

I just realized that I never actually asked my question (duu-uuuh):
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to figure out (without having to spend any money) if my problem is only with the power supply or if the entire display is just garbage at this point?
Or perhaps someone has experienced this situation, was able to resolve it and knows what I should do to make my display functional again?

  • Macbook pro retina display doesn't work occasionally. Random restarts. I can remote into the computer when display isn't working correctly

I have some issue with my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina. The screen intermittently decides to just not work. Sometimes on startup i hear the start up noise but the screen doesn't turn on. I am able to remote into the computer when the screen doesn't work. I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason as to when it works and when it doesn't. I've reset the PRAM and SMC sometimes that will bring the screen back sometimes not.
    Any ideas?

You can try the Apple Hardware test, not definitive by any means, especially intermittent problems, but it is a start.

  • Help! 2010 imac 27" - Display doesn't work after long sleep

I just recently started having this problem. I've had this iMac since 2010 with zero issues, but it seems like ever since I downloaded Yosemite, the screen won't work after the computer has been sleeping for a while. I have to hold the power button and do a hard restart to get it to work again. If the computer has only been sleeping for a while, it wakes just fine. It's only after it's been sleeping all night and I go to use it agsin. I've checked power connections and all is good. Any ideas??

    Hi Punisher8522,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below offers some troubleshooting steps to try when your computer won't wake from sleep.
OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS5357
Your computer cannot wake from sleep
Make sure your computer isn't powered off by pressing the power key for one second.
If you're using an external display, make sure your display is not powered off or unplugged.
If you are using a Mac desktop:
Make sure the AC power cord is connected securely to the computer and outlet.
Make sure the AC power outlet it is connected to is working properly.
If your computer is plugged into a power strip, make sure the power strip is not turned off. Check to make sure other items connected to the power strip are receiving power.
Your computer is slow to wake from sleep
If you see a progress bar when you wake your computer from sleep, this is normal. The computer is waking from safe sleep.
    OS X Recovery and sleep
The system software your computer uses when started from OS X Recovery allows display sleep. Your computer does not go to sleep on idle while started from Recovery unless you are using a Mac notebook that is not connected to AC power.
    Additional troubleshooting
If the steps above do not resolve your sleep-related issue, try these additional recommendations.
    Reset SMC
The System Management Controller (SMC) is involved in managing power on your computer. Reset the SMC on your Mac if you are having difficulty sleeping or waking your computer.
    Reset NVRAM/PRAM
Nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM)/Parameter RAM (PRAM) stores some power-related settings.Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM if you are having difficulty sleeping or waking your computer.
    Test with external devices disconnected
Some external devices can prevent your computer from sleeping. Try disconnecting items other than your Apple keyboard or mouse from the built-in USB, Thunderbolt and Firewire ports on your Mac. If this resolves the issue, try reconnecting your external devices one at a time until you find the device preventing sleep or wake. Check the documentation that came with the device, or contact the device manufacturer for more information.
    Try Safe Mode
Check to see if the issue still occurs when the computer is started in Safe Mode. If this resolves the issue, it could be related to a third party software item such as:
    a login item
    a startup item
    a third party kernel extension
    Try another user account
Try creating another user account, or log in as guest. See if your computer sleeps and wakes properly from the additional user account. If it does, your issue may be related to one of the following:
    a login item
an app open in the original user account
You can disable login items from the Accounts pane of System Preferences. Try opening only one app at a time in the original user account to determine which app is preventing sleep. If you isolate the issue to a particular app or login item, check its documentation, or contact the developer of that software for more information.
