My husband and I have the same Apple ID number so that we can both have access to an app we use.  I don't like the fact that our calendar, notes and email is also shared.  Is there a way to separate the things we want separate yet keep access to the cloud

My husband and I share the same Apple ID number because we both need access to an app that has a subscription and would be expensive for us to do separately.  We don't like that this shared ID number means we also share our calendar, note pages, email, etc....Is there a way to separate the things we don't want to share?

That would be my suggestion.  Just keep using the common one for purchases in the stores.  Then each get another AppleID using a free gmail, AOL, hotmail, MS Live or whatever email account.
Delete your current iCloud account and login with the new AppleID, and logout of Messaging and then backin with the new AppleID.  Now you have a shared iTunes/App store account, but completely separate, independent iCloud and iMessage accounts.
You can still share calendars if you wish to, even across separate accounts - http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2690

I'm using same apple id for my ipad & ipod but after start using the same apple id on my ipad, i can't update my free software downloaded on both, it's showing "YOU CAN NOT UPDATE THIS SOFTWARE SINCE YOU HAVE NOT OWNED THE MAJOR VERSION OF THIS SOFTWARE" so how i can update my softwares on ipad & ipod using the same apple id

I think the issue is that iTunes (for whatever reason) thinks I have two Apple ID's.
also, to further complicate the issue, when i try updating the apps from my iPod the iTunes store is still recognizing my old hotmail Apple ID. So when I go to enter my password it won't accept because it doesn't match with the old Apple ID, even though it is the same account (just new Apple ID name).
I have tried signing out within the App Store and re-signing in with my Apple ID but it still brings up my old Apple ID name when I try to update.

  • HT1414 I have A mac computer and 2 iPods, I just bought a iphone5 and want to use the same apple ID for all, But I can't get onto iMessage or FaceTime on the iPhone with the same apple id. Why?

I have a Mac computer and 2 ipods all using the same apple ID. I just bought an iphone5 and now want to use same apple ID but I can't it says I cannot connect to server.

Personally, I'd keep it simple and keep the same one.

  • I have 2 iphones using the same apple ID, how do I upgrade without both phones syncing the same data?

Hi, as it says above, my wife and I have an iphone each with different content on each. How do I upgrade the IOS on my wife's phone without syncing all the content on my phone?
Do I need a separate apple ID for my phone? If so, how do I set this up without losing all the data and content?

I am having the same issue.
There is no possible way Apple didn't think this the whole way thru!
Why in the world would I want to create an new Apple ID for everyone in my family & over complicate things?!?  "Face Time" and "Messages" can tie several devices to on Apple ID driven by contact email or phone number.  I am hard pressed to believe that Find my Friends can't be set up in a similar format.
Please help because this is frustrating me to the point of smashing an iPhone or 2!!

  • My husband and I both have iphones and share the same apple id. Everything was working fine until I synced his phone which lost all his contacts and pictures and gave him my info. I then used verizon's contact retreival app and got his contacts back

My husband and I both have iphones and everything was ok until I synced his phone and lost all his contacts and pixs. I downloaded verizon's contact retreival app and got his contacts back but now his contacts keep overwriting mine. I can sync my phone and get my contacts back but within a few hours, his show up again. We use the same apple id for purchases. What can I do?

Are you sharing the same iCloud account (in Settings>iCloud)?  And do you both have Contacts turned to On in Settings>iCloud?

  • Can my wife and I share the same Apple ID on each of our iPhones?

I'm trying to set hers up and now it's showing each of our contacts in the other's contacts list (in addition to our own).  Now I'm worried that we'd have the same apps and end up with each other's email if I proceed.  Can we have separate settings while sharing the same Apple ID??

    Actually he can.
Sign into iCloud using husband and wife's individual unique apple id.
But sign in iTunes store or App store or iBook store using a single apple id (be it husband's or wife's)... both iPhones can have the same media (ie, books, songs, videos, apps), but different iCloud account to manage different emails, find my iphone, iMessage, calendars, notes, reminders, etc...
Just have to remember to sign out and sign in using different ID.
iOS4.x.x does not support this, but iOS5 does.
I am using 3 different Apple IDs to access Apps, iTunes and iCloud respectively.

  • Can iCloud serve two iPhone users, or do both users have to login with the same Apple ID?

My wife and I want to use iCloud to sync our calendars.  Do we both need to use the same Apple id tp accomplish this, or can iCluod support two users with seperate Apple ID's?  I can't find a way to do it seperately.

Each iCloud account is tied to the AppleID used to create it.  So if you each use distinct AppleIDs to create your iCloud accounts then you can each sync your devices independently of eachother (you will also not be sharing the same email account).  If you then wish to share calendars, you can set that up:

  • I have two iPhones associated to the same Apple ID. Can I manage music

I now have two iPhones (4s & 5s) associated to the same Apple ID. I am
    giving my wife the 4S.
We like different music & apps from one another. Can I manage music & apps independently on each device even though they have the same Apple ID Association?
    Thanks

Yes, but I highly recommend each have your own, separate AppleID and your own computer login to manage your own data separately.

  • Can I use the same Apple ID for two iPhone's?

Can I use the same Apple ID on both mine and my partners iPhones? and will there be any troubles or problems that may occur?
    Thank you

Yes, but there will be quirks. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
What isn't obvious is that you can use different Apple IDs for different functions on your iPhone; for example iCloud, iTunes & App Stores, Game Center, iMessage and FaceTime can all have different Apple IDs from each other.
If you use the same Apple ID for Find my iPhone then both phone's locations will show up at https://icloud.com/find. Which can be good or bad, depending on your situation.
If you use the same Apple ID for iTunes & App Stores you can have the same apps and music on both phones; some or all of them.
You probably want different Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime; otherwise, you will get each other's messages
    Also different for Game Center.

  • FaceTime with an Ipad 2 which is on the same Apple ID account?

Okay, my family have had an apple ID for years so we can all have our music on our ipods. Recently we have purchased a Mac Book Air and an Ipad 2. We downloaded the FaceTime app on the Mac Book and it is already there for the Ipad. We want to be able to FaceTime each other, both FaceTimes are activated but when the Mac Book calls the Ipad, the Ipad rings and then says it is connecting for about 5 mins before failing and the Mac Book says the Ipad is unavailable. When the Ipad rings the Mac Book, the Mac Book rings but before you accept the Ipad says the FaceTime is unavailable. We both have the same apple ID as we are buying songs and apps from the same account and therefore we both have the same contact e-mail address, not sure wether this is the problem, if so how do you add another e-mail as every time we try it states that it is an invalid e-mail for this apple ID? If there is any other problem you see please explain!

    IOS: using facetime http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4319
using an ipad will use the email address since you can't make a phone call.  see the link.
Your basically calling/emailing yourself that's why your getting a busy signal.

  • SMS texts, not Imessages, on multiple phones with the same Apple ID

Is it possible that outgoing and incoming SMS texts, not imessages, could be seen on two seperate Iphones that share the same Apple ID? I'm wondering because I have been SMS texting a friend about a gift for my husband and I'm wondering if he was able to read them.
    Thanks!

Outgoing or Incoming texts? I was texting with a person with an iphone that is one the same network, if that matters.  But they were all green, so i know they were SMS.

  • HT204053 My husband and I both have iPhones but we only have one iPad. We use the same apple ID because we also share the same email address. How would this work with iCloud because we don't share the same contacts?  Thanks Elainecontacts

My husband and I both have an iPhone and we share an iPad. We also share the same email address so how would this work with iCloud because we don't share all the same contacts?
    Thanks

An icloud account is designed to be used by one user.  That user can have all his/her devices synced with the same Apple data (email, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc.) .  When two people use the same account, then problems usually occur when one user edits data that the other user doesn't want changed on their device.  You can continue sharing the same ID for the itunes account in order to share the purchased music, apps, etc.  itunes accounts and icloud accounts are different.
It's by far better that each user has his/her own icloud account.

  • When my husband and I got these iPhones . We had the same Apple ID .(not good) that has changed . We have a iCloud acct. how or what do I need to do to change on my setting under iCloud it has his Apple ID  and also on r PC it has only his info none of mi

When my husband and I got these iPhones . We had the same Apple ID .(not good) that has changed . We have a iCloud acct. how or what do I need to do to change on my setting under iCloud it has his Apple ID  and also on r PC it has only his info none of mi

To change the iCloud account on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone.  When you delete the account you will be given the option to either keep or delete the iCloud data from your phone.  This also, only deletes the account and the iCloud data from your phone, not from iCloud.  Your husband's phone won't be effected by this.  Then, to create a separate account, sign back in with a different Apple ID (you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes).
If you have any photo stream photos that you want to keep on the phone, save them to your camera roll before deleting the account.
If you're sharing the same ID for iMessage and FaceTime you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  To prevent this, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your new iCloud ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • I have 2 iPads, they both have the same apple I'd and password. Can I change the I'd and password on one so they will operate separately. Right now when my husband adds a game etc. it goes on mine too. Also the information in pages that I put in shows up

CAn I change the apple I'd and password on one of my two iPads and will they both operate separately. Right now when my husband adds a game it also is added to the other one and when I add recipes in pages, they go into the other I pad too.  When I purchased the new iPad I was told I had to have the same apple Id as the first one, I would like them to be separate, is this possible?

You need to create a new Apple ID to use with the other iPad, then sign out in Settings>iCloud and sign in with the new ID. Of course any data such as contacts and calendars which have been synced from the first iPad will be removed from the second one when you do this.
