My in-store iPhone experience

At long last after only reading about the iPhone, I finally went into the local Apple Store to check out the iPhone. The entire large front table at the store entrance was set up as a demo station. There were about a dozen demos on that table and two more on another along the wall. It was a Monday evening, typically the slowest day at our mall (Columbia Mall, MD). There were relatively few people in the mall but the Apple Store was crowded. There was actually a wait to check out the demo iPhones. I was listening to the comments of those around me, which ranged from "This is the sweetest thing I've ever seen," to "It's nice, but not $500 nice." I personally was quite impressed. The store has a wi-fi network but wi-fi was disabled on the demo phones, probably because there were so many of them it would tax their LAN too much. I used EDGE to do some limited web browsing. The speed was slow, as expected, but not discouragingly slow. I did have Safari crash on me while waiting for a page to load (I guess it crashed, since it vanished from the display and put me back on the home screen.) Photos were brilliant, very vibrant. I made a call to my daughter waiting outside the store, the quality was clear and volume good. I was pleased with the light tap required to work it. I took a picture of the little stand showing the prices and e-mailed it to myself. I would have bought one but I'm tied into a two-year Sprint contract which I just renewed a few months ago. That's the only thing that held me back. As a "consolation prize" and early birthday present, I bought myself a 30GB iPod to replace my old 4GB nano.
Steve Jobs and Co. have hit a home run with this device, considering it's a first release. I'll see how things are in two years when my Sprint contract expires!

I am experiencing the same issue using the built-in iPod cable in my Scion xB. Charging worked fine with my previous iPhone, and now it doesn't work at all with the iPhone 3G. When combined with the reduced battery life, this is a serious problem.
We need a fix! My old iPhone battery was always topped up, because I could leave it plugged into the car. Now it's always low, because listening to music in the car drains the battery instead of charging it.
Not cool, Apple. I hope this can be fixed with a software update; if not, we need a hardware solution. Either way, you need to do something. This is unacceptable.

Beware apple store iPhone replacement program:
We took my daughters broken iphone 4 into an apple store and was told that the damage was not covered under warrany but for only £120 we could get a replacement iphone 4
the problem being when they helped her set  up the replacement Iphone 4 they installed os7 as the opperating system rendering the phone useless as it now runs slow, freezes & cannot use messaging at all etc
we went back to the store hoping they could HELP  &  were told that the iphone should not have these problems & to do a full restore; as it turns out the processing chip cant handle os7 which becomes Very apparent & now the store staff are suggesting that they will upgrade the phone to something newer & give us a £60 discout towards a new phone for something we paid them £120 48hr earlier.
Its not the Apple experience we have all come to love can anyone suggest how we might restore the phone to an earlier opperating system

That's nonsense. I have 2 iPhone fours and both work just fine with iOS 7. As mentioned take ti back.

  • Only AT&T Could Kill the iPhone Experience

Ever since I saw the demonstration of the iPhone, I thought it was going to be the coolest phone the mobile industry has ever seen. In the months that followed, all the information and videos that have trickled out of Cupertino has reinforced this notion. The hype surrounding the iPhone has grown to monumental proportions. The reviews that I've been reading in the newspapers and magazines have relayed that the actual iPhone experience lives up to just about all of the hype.
I've been an AT&T or Cingular customer for just about 10 years now. When I've talked to friends and family about the iPhone, one consistent feeling that I've had is the ONLY thing that will KILL the iPhone experience is AT&T.
For me, that is coming true. I have this beautifully engineered piece of hardware sitting on my desk plugged into the USB port on my Core Duo Macbook Pro. I'm staring at iTunes 7.3 and the "Your activation requires additional time to complete" screen. The same screen that has graced the face of my MacBook Pro since about 8:30PM EST.
After getting this message, I called AT&T. I spoke with a customer service representative who told me that everything with the account was correct. My new iPhone had replaced the Treo 650 I was using previously. The MediaNET data package I had subscribed to was dropped in favor of the iPhone data plan.
I checked my Treo 650 at about 9:30 PM and it was no longer registering on the AT&T network.
At about 11:15PM EST, I decided to give AT&T another call. After my call was dropped by the IVR (I was on a land line), I finally got to speak with a customer service representative who asked me if I would mind holding while I was transferred to another group of individuals who could look deeper into my activation problems. After waiting on hold for thirty minutes, I decided to hang up and go to bed.
Here it is Saturday morning at 10:20AM EST. I've been on the phone with AT&T for 28 minutes - waiting for the "Activation Support Group". I've been told that activation can take up to twenty-four hours to complete. I find this unacceptable. When I relayed this to the CSR, she politely apologized for the inconvenience and tried to comfort me (I guess that was her goal) by saying that a large number of people are in the same boat. I was told that there are "millions" of people trying to activate their phone and it just takes time.

This is soooo ridiculous - you have to laugh otherwise you'll cry. Don't bother buying an iPhone now, wait a week. You can't do anything with it until AT&T catches up on activation.
I posted this in the AT&T apple forum but I'll post here too, just for the record:
Activation with an Old AT&T Wireless (not Cingular)
Yes. I am one of those unfortunate loyal customers too.
I have made 5 calls so far.
Once last night to find out that the department I needed to 'fix' my account is shut for the evening and will re-open tomorrow at 7am.
Second at 8:30a to find out that the 'Conversions' department I needed to 'fix' my account opens at 9a.
Third at 9am to get my old AT&T rate plan changed. Only to find out later on-line that the customer service rep changed it to a $59.99 950 minute non-iPhone plan.
Fourth, to get my rate plan changed to a $59.99 iPhone plan. The lady did not know how to do it and was going to transfer me to the 'Sync' department but dropped the call.
Fifth, call again. Lady took my IMEI and ICCID numbers, set me up with a $59.99 iPhone (at last!). Now I am waiting for the Sync department to reset my device so I can go through activation again.
Apparently its a 12-24 hours wait because AT&T was 'surprised' by the volume of iPhone purchases and I am waiting in-line behind people to be reset by the Sync department from last night.
The iPhone is a beautiful device, its only flaw is AT&T.

I did that about 3 times then voilà! The App Store appeared again.
    To summarize:
    - Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead.
    - Try App Store. If it doesn't work, continue with below.
    - Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off
    - Close all apps in the Task Bar.
    - Turn WiFi OFF.
    - Reboot.
    - Turn WiFi ON.
    - Make sure Location Services is ON for the Apple Store.
    - Turn Date and Time to Set Automatically ON.
    - Try App Store.
Repeat the above if necessary. Thanks Demo, Ocean20 and Diavonex.
    It worked!

  • Question about the in store pickup experience I had

My partner and I are happy that we have our new Mr Coffee 4 Cup programmable Coffee Maker and we got it for such a bargain!
However I had a concern about my in store pickup experience.
Throughout the pickup experience the employee told someone next to them to put my ID and Debit Card under an ultra violet light where the cash goes to verify something. Is this a normal thing they do? I have not had an in store pickup experience in a long time and I would never have any fraudulent ID or payment options. Of course my ID picture was from 2005 and is still valid until 2017 and I always have a number 1 haircut in the summer because its hot.
My partner was scratching his head too about what they were doing and said Jason look they are putting your cards under a light.

    Hi hockeycanuckjc,
I’m so glad to hear that you were able to get your hands on your coffee maker! Goodness knows I could’ve used a good cup of (decaf) coffee when I was trying to get myself up and out the door this morning.
While not all stores use a light to check a customer’s ID, it’s a safety precaution that some stores use to better verify a person’s identity.  This is not a standard procedure for all stores, so it may not be something you’d run into on a regular basis.
If you have any further questions though, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

  • My iPhone Experience :)

    The Purchase
Tonight, i walked into the Glendale Galleria (in CA) and purchased an 8gig iPhone. I would have bet my first born that they would have been sold out by 8pm or 10pm.
So i gave them a call and the very nice gentlemen who answered told me they had the 8gigs in stock. He could no elaborate if they had plenty, but he told me to come on down. So i did.
Thankfully, there was no line. The store maybe had 20 people browsing and playing with the phone, etc. Maybe because the mall closes at 9 or 10pm, the people started leaving.
So i walked up to the cashier and requested the phone. We made small talk. I was interested in how many people perhaps had visited the store at 6pm. I was told they had a solid line for 4 hrs of people just buying and leaving.
    wow.
I looked behind the register, they had stacks and stacks of the 4 and 8 gig phone just piled high. That amazed me!
So i paid the nice foxy lady and left the store. In and out in less than 7 minutes.
The packaging is quite impressive. It's a small black box in a black bag. It's high end electronic packaging and printing. VERY NICE.
    Unpackaging/Activating/etc.
So i drove home and i started to unpack the iPhone. I wasn't expecting much at this point. I had been reading the east coasters-NYers nightmare stories of 6 hr activations and cancellations and hangups, etc.
So i plugged in the iPhone and launched iTunes. Prior to starting my day, i had upgraded my OS X and iTunes to the latest iPhone compatible versions. I also inserted a USB 2.0 5-port belkin card in my trusty G4 dual 1gig MDD tower.
Once the computer, itunes recognized the iPhone... i simply went step by step following the onscreen instructions. Mind you i'm ALREADY a AT&T (started with Cingular) subscriber.
So it detected my number, my account as a current subscriber and it gave me the option of packages to sign up for, along with the extra SMS text messaging packages.
I made the selections and soon enough the window told me that it may take up to 3 minutes.
I don't even think 1 minute went by when it told me that the iPhone activation was complete. My jaw dropped.
REALLY? Was that it? So the first thing i did was unplug the iPhone and make a call to make sure my number was carried over to the iPhone. Sure enough it was. I could make and receive calls with not problem. Impressive!
I was so eager to try my fast wi-fi connection at home, which worked like a charm!
Then i was really curious about how fast (slow) the AT&T EDGE network is... and to my surprise, it wasn't bad at all. I don't know how fast the pages were loading, but i wasn't even waiting 1 minute to fully load yahoo.com or cnn.com
The webpages loaded just as if they were on a slow DSL connection. I wasn't disappointed. I expected it to be slower actually.
Perhaps AT&T did pump up the bandwidth for the iPhone launch. Either way, it's usable. I can be out there somewhere in LA and it'll work just fine for me.
Google Maps and the other widgets worked great! Those features alone are worth the price of the phone.
My email synced up perfectly (although i had to set the AT&T outgoing mail server to make my POP3 email work correctly (outgoing mail).
I setup the visual voicemail which works like a charm.
The features of this phone are worth every penny. Sure it's pricey, but this phone is useful in many ways.
The design is gorgeous. The way it feels in your hand... you just want to keep holding it all day long.
Oh and that keyboard... okay... it's going to get some getting used to. Not much though. I'm already learning that if you just let the keyboard do it's thing, you'll type quicker!
Overall, i had a great buying experience. I'm happy with this purchase and the service. I know you east coasters may have poor or non-existent AT&T (Cingular) service. I wonder if it's because of the locations of the cell towers or repeaters and the building blocking/absorbing the signals?
Here in LA, we get great coverage. At least my now retired moto razr v3 phone did great for one year. Tomorrow i'm taking my phone out everywhere to compare signal strengths and EDGE coverage, etc.
Overall an awesome experience. Way to go Apple!

    Most excellent!
Cheers for sharing a positive experience. I had a rather enjoyable one myself.
I live in Tucson, AZ. Got to a local AT&T store around 1:30, and waited for hours under an EZ-UP tent the first person in line brought (he was thanked repeatedly by the growing crowd as the day progressed).
The whole time we were there, there were 3 or 4 AT&T representatives that were extremely accommodating, offering coolers of ice cold water bottles, answering all our questions, and just hanging out and enjoying the experience.
Once the doors opened, my experience was nearly identical to yours in that I was in and out and the clerks were all very nice.
Got home, unpacked everything... once again, your first impressions are shared.
Activated nicely, syncs properly, etc. I've been absolutely satisfied with the whole experience so far.
I can make calls but can't receive them yet (my number was ported from Verizon), I'm anxious, though I have nothing but patience in this department. I completely understand that technology has limitations, and a communications device launch of this magnitude that requires hundreds of thousands of people to use the same network doing the exact same thing at the exact same time, is going to have a few glitches.
When I do receive my first call on the iPhone, I plan to pop a bottle of (juuuust acceptable enough) champagne and toast in the name of Apple, AT&T, and myself.

  • Any way App Store (iPhone/Mac) can be LEGALLY set on two different countries?

I am Italian, I used to live in the US and I have a bank account both in Italy and the US, meaning I can easily switch App Store country just by updating my account info on the App Store. Having purchased my latest unlocked iPhone in the US, I've been set on the American store for almost two years now--it just offers more options--but my Italian apps (apps that are not available on the US store) won't update, and vice versa should I switch to Italy again. It's kind of a hassle because some apps just won't work if they're not updated, and I'm afraid there's a limit in the number of times I can switch country on the store.
Is there any way Apple helps bypass this "problem" by allowing users to set there account on multiple countries, or can I just make sure updates will download automatically even when I'm not set on the "right" country?
Hope my question is clear. I appreciate any useful pointers!

I had to leave back to Israel so i paid online for it and had my sister in-law pick it up.
They gave her the a1428 model (which dosent support LTE on Israel) and told her that a1429 is only for demo.
I cant find a way to contact apple from Israel, at laest not by mail, and i cant make a call from here.
Who can i contact to explain my situation?
I belive they have the model in store, its just the seller dont know the differeence, and was not that keen on try to help her.
    Thanks

  • HT6154 Is there way to disable password protect on App Store iphone 5 ios7.1?

My iphone 5 always asks for iCloud I'd and pass code even to download free apps although I have purchases locked through at &t. Can I take this off or disable it?

No, you cannot disable your password for your Apple ID in the iTunes store. If you could then anyone could purchase apps on your credit card.
I have no idea what you mean by "purchases locked through at&t". The carrier has nothing to do with the iTunes store.

  • ITunes Store iPhone Password Issue

I have the latest software on my Mac and iPhone. iCloud is enabled and working just fine. iTunes store on my Mac works fine.
Problem: iTunes Store on my iPhone 4 will not accept my password. Yet my password works everywhere else.
Is there a password sync issue with iTunes Store on the iPhone

I am also having the same problem. My iTunes password works fine on the PC running Windows, but when I try to update Apps on my iPhone 3SG it asks for my iTunes password and then rejects it as not recognised.
It also rejects in the same manner when I try to buy music using my iPhone through iTunes.

  • Where can I write email and snail mail regarding my iphone experience?

Greetings. I loved the Iphone 3G for everything except the weak battery (known issue - and I could have lived with it) and horrible phone quality (dropped calls, calls that would not go through, calls where I could hear them and they could not hear me - and while in the same exact location and time my other pre-existing phone from AT&T worked just fine). I tried it for 1 week. I needed a phone first-most. As a long-time Apple customer I'm peeved that I had to pay the restock charge of $30 (16G version) and $16 AT&T upgrade fee. While I know Apple doesn't control the $16 fee - I'm told it's Apple policy why the restock charge is charged - regardless. I did not simply change my mind. The phone did not work properly. Apple now acknowledges the issue in the media. The AT&T guy said to just turn off the 3G; that they were having switching issues. I'm sorry - but Apple advertises a 3G phone that works - mine did not. How do I get a refund or some type of credit back regarding the $30 restock fee? Should I never buy from Apple again? Thanks for your tips on where and how to register my complaint. Thanks!

Call Apple if you wish, but I've never heard of a refund for this.
This is a user to user forum, so we are all iphone users. You are not addressing Apple here.
I doubt you will get any sort of refund, but if it makes you feel better call 1-800 My iphone or try your Apple Store.

  • How to store iPhone 5 earbuds?

Has anyone figured out how to get the iPhone 5 earbuds back in the case they came in? After I put the mic into the case, one of the cables is longer than the other and I can't figure out how to get the cables to wrap tightly enough to get the top of the case to fit properly.
It's driving me nuts, because I'm sure some guy at Foxconn spends all day wrapping these things perfectly.
I'd sure love to see a YouTube video on how to do it correctly.

The Nest Earbud Case is a quick and easy way to store your earbuds. I have one for each of my kids becuase they would always find a way to ruin them. No more earbud replacements!

  • My iPhone experience and some tips

After waiting for 4 hours at an AT&T store in Manhattan we were told we needed to order them and hopefully get them sometime next week for an extra $15. As I stood sulking that I wasted time in a long for a cell phone we were told that the Apple Store on 5th Ave. had a ton of phones in stock and it took only 10 minutes to get. Which as true.
My wife already has a PC and I have a mac. I canceled my Sprint service just so I could use the iPhone, but my wife already had cingular and we wanted to switch to the family plan, but the only way you could do this was to wait for about an hour and talk to a customer service rep.
Overall - the iPhone rocks. Totally worth the wait, however I had some syncing problems. If you have a mac, and have had some issues with Entourage this tip might help.
iTunes only syncs with Address Book, and iCal and I use Entourage exclusively. So I did some research and I went to http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13226 and http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15013 and bought Sync_Entourage Address Book 2 and Sync Entourage iCal 2 and it syncs perfectly now. You can download the 14 day demo for free.
I am waiting for the updates to the iPhone software like ringtones, some sort of file manager, a better text editor, flash support, and the ability to download widgets, mms capability, and a capability to mass text my contacts, etc... but I'm sure it will all be out soon.
I will say the absolute best thing about the iPhone is the internet. Browsing the internet is incredibly intuitive, however I must admit that I wished that Apple would have worked with Sprint or Verizon. I was used to faster speeds before.
All in all a pretty **** good launch.

    Hey Tfromon,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you have an app that seems to be stuck on “Waiting," and the following is a past discussion that dealt with a similar issue and may help you as well:
App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.
