    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

ipod touch wont switch on and constantly only shows the apple logo screen. Have tried to reset by holding both buttons down but hasnt worked. it also doesnt appear on itunes.

    Hvae you tried:
    - Reseting the iPod and then try restoreing the iPod
    - Placing the iPod in recovory mode and then restoring the iPOd.  For recovery mode see:

    - Next try DFU mode

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have the same issue and I KNOW my backup IS good. What happen is when you try to restore your phone apple says something like can I check for new updates and if you choose no, it just takes you back to the restore screen and a loop from then on.  If you dont update from you phone then when you back up you will have the 5.0.1 back up and then when you update to 5.1.1 and then try to restore the backup from 5.0.1 it say it EITHER corrupt or incompatible.. It is incompatible and its hard as **** to restore back to 5.0.1. I followed the restore to a T and still getting errors. I lost all text history and have to reset up email. All just because I wanted a 1.2 Gigs of "other" space back.

  • Constant restart and "clicking" sound with the apple logo reappearing.

my iPod(80 GB) is stuck on the apple logo screen and it keeps shutting off and starting up and shutting off.. so on and so forth. I tried restoring it when i connect it to my computer but it won't get past the actual restore part. It gets all the way through the "extracting software" step and then once it hits the "restore" step it stops about half way through it and says an unknown error has occured(1439) or something like that. I looked that up and it says to try a bunch of different things and i've tried them all and nothing seems to work, not even putting it into disk mode. And once i take it out of Disk Mode a black screen with a white apple logo pops up like it wants to restore or whatever and that loads about 3/4 of the way and then goes right back to the grey screen with the apple logo and continues to go on and off. If anyone has any suggestions let me know because I'm to the point where I will launch this thing at a wall. It's SOO frustrating.

oh... didn't realize you also had a 'corrupt ipod' message.. so far i've been spared that one.
On an early ipod i had that message regularly after a couple of years, and it only went away when i did what i was about to do now: format the thing in mac, then go back and reformat it in Windows. I've no idea at all why that worked,or even whether it "should" work, but, with an old model it did. That particular ipod originally started malfunctioning, i think, due to my own carelessness - i'd left in on the dashboard of my van for a whole day in the sun of a very hot summer. I don't think anything electronic is over-fond of that kind of treatment... whatever, the corruption got cured but the battery gave up not very long after.
Otherwise, i know we're dealing with XP here, not Vista, but a couple of interesting articles on a Windows blog may have a degree of relevance:

i guess i know what you mean about never using apple products again.. I haven't got that far, and don't really expect to, but I said it several times, not always entirely fairly, about Microsoft, when forced to work in nothing but Windows (I've preferred Mac as a basic system for about as long as I can remember...). Seems like Apple, now that they're selling more stuff, are doing what is often so irritating about Microsoft - rushing new stuff out with plenty of wonderful features and selling points but inadequate practical testing...

  • IPod touch won't turn on. I see the Apple Logo then in 5 seconds it's off.

Okay so i see the apple logo when i turn it on wait 5 seconds and its off.
i have had this problem since last night when i tried to restart it. i have attempted to sync it to itunes but it wouldnt turn on while connected to my computer either...its also been in the charger all night and had a full battery when i went to restart it.
    any hel is greatly needed...thanks:DDDDD

I would put it into a recovery mode to fix it. Try these steps:
    1. Unplug the touch from your computer
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake switch until you see the red slider and turn the iPod off. (Note: this may not work and if it doesn't go to the next step.)
    3. Start iTunes
    4. Hold down the Home button and continue to hold it down while you plug your touch back into your computer.
    5. Continue holding it down until iTunes gives you a - "device detected in recovery mode" message.
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to restore your iPod.

  • My ipod classic turns on and off continually I cannot reset. This happened after trying to sync with my pc.

My ipod classic continually turns on and off. I cannot reset and have tried many times. This happened when I tried syncing with my pc. My pc runs vista.
i Recently had my pc system hard drive wiped and restored.

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen won't turn on past the apple logo, do I need to restore to factory settings? If so, is there a way to save my photos?

I've had my iPod touch 5th gen for a little over half a year now, haven't had any issues until now. Yesterday it randomly shut down, and when I try to turn it back on, the apple logo shows up but the iPod just stays on that screen, it doesn't turn on any further. I think I might need to restore it to the factory settings to get it to work again, but I'm concerned that I'm going to lose all my photos. I found the backup folder in my computer but it doesn't have any files in it. I have over 600 pictures on my iPod and I really don't want to lose them all. Is there a way that I can either get my iPod to work again without restoring, or a way that I can extract the photos without the iPod actually being in functioning condition? The computer doesn't recognize the device when it gets connected via the USB. Thanks!

    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to make a backup
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    - Next reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
and try making a backup again. If you can't then there is no way of getting the info off the iPod unless data recovery company can do it. Not cheap.
    - If photos are in an existing iPod backup (iTune>Preferences>Devices  for iTunes backup or an iCloud backu) then restore from that backup. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • I removed an app on the 3gs, and now my phone is really slow, so i turned it off, and turned it on again, and its stuck with the apple logo any ideas what to do?

ive also tried holding the home button and the sleep/wake button, it went off and came on and is still stuck on apple logo

If after you have tried the restart method (Hold down the home button and the power button for at least 15 seconds) then I would advise doing a complete factory reset on the phone.
Connect the phone to your computer, and once the device appears in the top right bar, click on it (It will be titled something like "Amanda's iPhone, or iPhone").
Once you have done this, click on the back up iPhone option, (This will save whatever files on your iPhone that aren't on your computer, to your computer.)
After this is done, click the "Restore iPhone" tab to completely reset the phone. If this option won't work, try the first method again when your phone is plugged into your computer and hold the home and power button the same time.
Hope one of these will work for you:)
