My itunes won't recognise any of the music that is already stored on my computer or let me sync anything to my new ipod nano!! any ideas??

I recently bought a new ipod nano and when i got it home and connected it to my computer I was told my version of i-tunes was not compatable and I had to un-install it and then download it again. After I did this 4 times i eventually managed to get itunes to open on my computer and recognise my new ipod. However after all that hassle my version of itunes now wont recognise any of the music that has already been downloaded onto my computers music files. I have tried copying the music across and also using the add music to the itunes library command and nothing seems to work! I really like the ipod but if i had known that itunes was this difficult to work i would have picked a different type of music player! since i have bought the ipod ive heard nothing but bad things about how difficult and complicated itunes is to work so if anyone has any ideas for how i can fix this problem thatd be great! Windows xp won't sync ANYTHING in my new ipod nano 3g

ok so i got my new ipod nano and it was working perfectly but then when i connected one day my computer said i needed to reconest my ipod or restore. so then i restored it and it didnt put any of my songs back. then i tried outting my songs back manually and the computer said my ipod was corrupted and i needed to restore. so i tried restoring it agiain. samething happened. now i cant sink anything from my itunes to my ipod and i have to use my brothers itunes which has different songs....help me.......i missing like 100 songs literally forrom my ipod since my brother has different songs on his itunes....HELP ME!!!!!!
p.s. i have the itunes 7.5 update already and my ipod is already updated so it cant be any updates........

The best way to manage your music when you have multiple iPods is to change the settings under "Options" so that you manually manage your music instead of it doing an automatic synch each time you connect. To add only the songs you want, highlight them and then "click and drag" them to your iPod. This way none of your daughter's music gets added and you're not in danger of deleting your playlist as well. It will show you how many songs you've added and you can then click on your iPod to verify. To delete her songs off your iPod now, click on the music tab under your iPod so show everything you have stored. Find those songs you want to delete, click on them to highlight then go up to the Edit window and click delete. This will erase them off your iPod but be careful when you highlight. I did that and then had to reload a cd on my boyfriend's, lol. hope this helps

It doesn't quite work that way. Transfer your music from the old computer to the new one. Then, sync the iPod.

Since this first message, the "Other" space has increased exponentially. The first time, after the "restore", it increased to over 9 GB. Later, I tried a minor restore again, and now it's over 10 GB. I've seen someone suggest that text messages are to blame. If my text messages are suddenly taking up 4 GB of space, I think we've got bigger problems.

Im wondering how I can get the music that I had on my iphone 4. I lost the phone over a year ago, but I spent hundreds of dollars on music albums. since then I have never been able to find out if I can get the albums that I purchased and save them in my computer. I don't have a iphone or other cell phone at the moment. the phone that I lost was not backed up. if anyone know how to do that, I would be thrilled.

New PC and just downloaded iTunes, but it won't recognise the music that was already on my iPod. How do I get my music to show up in my library please?

I had to change my PC and obviously had to download iTunes again and authorise teh new PC.
When I connected my iPod Touch though it would not show any of my music in my library and the only place it ca b be seen is in the my ipod and on the "on this iPod" which is not much use if I want tp add to play lists etc that were already set up.
If possible I would like to have the music on my ipod show up in my library as it is now not even on my new PC as a back up as it it usually backs the iPod up, but with nothing showing up in the library now of course ther is noting to back up!
If someone could help an old git I would be grateful

The Touch Copy third party software for PC's is the way to go it seems and although the demo is free, if you have over 100 songs then it costs £15 to buy the software which seems not a lot to pay for peace of mind. and restoring your iTunes library back to how it was.

Is there a way for Itunes to compare your library to the music that is on the ipod?

I have recently moved all my music to my laptop as my ipod may break any day now because it is so old and I wanted to organise my library so I don't lose any thing. Over the past few years I have manually been adding music to my ipod because it meant i could have music on my desktop computer and my laptop, however on deciding to move it all to one place I have descovered I have more songs on my itunes than my ipod but I can't work out which ones they are. Is there any way Itunes can run a program to determine the differences between the music on the ipod and itunes? I would just sync the entire library however it would mean that if there are songs on my ipod that are not on my itunes they would be deleted. (I would go through my library manually to determine the differences however I have over 4500 songs so that would be a little difficult)

I have only synced a device on a single occasion in my life. Doesn't it say something about how many songs will transfer?
The laptop is supposed to be the master repository for everything on the iPod and they are designed to be in sync.
You can check the Dougscripts web site. There's all kinds of goodies there but I don't know if the extend to something like this. There's also third party software but again I don't know if it goes to that detail. People usually use it when they are trying to rescue content for a non-backed-up computer.

The iPhone has never had a disk mode like the older iPods used to. That is why there used to be a backup function in iTunes, or you backup the data on the computer via whatever method you want to use for offsite backup. This way if the computer crashes, you do not risk the loss of data.
