Forgot to Mention i'm using Windows 8.1 - 32 GB Ram - i7-3970x - 2 SSd's in raid 0 for C Drive/ Storage drive is three ( 2 tb HDD in a raid 0 ) / Pictures Folder defaults to the Storage Drive not the Application drive .

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

Sure the laptop know's that the Nikon D800E is connected, but lightroom doesn't recognise this camera. Two weeks a go it wasn't a problem at all.

I have dell xps it runs at 3840 x 2167 and bridge lightroom and photoshop are unusable as the type is so small if win is re scaled to a low res the products still use full res and you canot see text can you help!

I am about to buy the above products for home and a laptop I bought the high res laptop for editing photos and the photos look great on the display but I cannot use photo shop and lightroom
has any body had this problem and is there a simple fix that I have missed
taking the res down in the control panel reduces the res but does not effect the programme
by the way the dell xps is great

Thanks for the info I know that there were problems with the high res
I am using the latest photoshop and bridge from the cloud but only using the trial copy at the
moment
I will look closer and try to scale it to a suitable level

There is that pitfall in buying HiDpi laptops for Windows.
Only Photoshop CC 2014 has the option to scale the UI 200% in order to make it usable on these hires screens.
CC and earlier does not have this and Adobe would have to retrofit them. Not likely with older products.

With regards to your .arw files:
You need to either purchase and install Lightroom 5.4 -- OR -- download and install and use the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 8.4, did you actually launch and use the DNG Converter?
There should be no problem importing JPG files into Lightroom from your camera, what happens when you try? Is there an error message?

The easiest way would be to download the trial version, and then use your existing serial number to activate. Or, if you have already downloaded the update to use to update your original installation, you could copy the file that you downloaded to a flash drive and use it on your other computer.

My guess is that your operating system got updated to Mavericks and that you are running an old version of Lightroom:

Not exactly.
Your image files (Raws, JPEGS, Movies) must be backed up independent of Lightroom. Lightroom's backup only backs up your edits, metadata, collection memberships, ratings etc. You still need to have a strategy for the actual image files which were imported into Lightroom.
The Previews are located in the same folder where your active catalog(s) live. It has the same name as your catalog and
If you get these two and your images you will have it - with the exception of any downloaded presets.

Oh dear, I'm afraid you have been misled by the names of these two products- despite its name of "Photoshop Lightroom", LR is totally separate from full Photoshop, and the two do not closely combine as you suggest.
You can install Photoshop as a supplementary editor in LR, as you can with any photo manipulation program, so that you can pass a file from Lr to Photoshop to work on it, and then pass it back.

Lightroom is in trial mode, but I have purchased a subscription.

Creative Cloud (oh why oh why do they have this???) says I am in trial mode. When I log onto the web account, it shows that a subscription has been purchased. Lightroom wont work properly as it says it is in trial mode. Any help? That is in simple english and doesnt involve 40 steps, especially when it is not due to my incompetence!!!
