  • My Mac says I don't have permission to install the new Firefox software though I am the administrator.

I've been unable to download Firefox updates or install Firefox versions higher than 3.6.8 over the top of the 3.6.8 version. I get an error message, saying I don't have permission to do so though I am the administrator of this computer. At one time, I mistakenly had two admistrator accounts and I think this is the core of the problem. In any case, I am unable to update or download newer Firefox versions (very frustrating). I'm running OSX 10.6.7 on an intel-based MacBook.

Software Update needs an administrator user. Have you got more than one user? Open System Preferences > Users and Groups, and make sure that your user is an administrator

I can't Install my updates on my mac book , it starts to install and a box pops up saying i don't have permission to install

So, then, after you click the Install button  you receive the permissions error dialog? Again, are you logged into an Admin account?
    Have you tried:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Also, please check the settings on your startup drive. Select it. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window, then open the bottom-most panel and check the settings. They should look like this:

  • Iomega eGo (Mac Edition) - You don't have permission to see its contents ?

Hi everyone. Im hoping someone can help me please.
I bought an Iomega eGo 500gb (Mac Edition) HDD which I connect by Firewire 400 to my macbook. I have two accounts on my macbook, one administrator account (which I rarely use) and one standard account that I use all the time. After I backed up my macbook using the standard account and Time Machine I tried to enter the HDD to see what files it had copied over by nearly all the folders had a red exclamation sign next to them and when I click on them it says 'you don't have permission to see its contents'?
I have logged into the admin account and I can see all the folders however it doesn't contain any of my itunes music files as my itunes isn't synched to the admin account.
Can someone help please ? How do I get to view what has been copied to the Iomega in my standard user account?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
One user, even an Admin user, doesn't normally have access to other users' data.
Log on to the standard account, open a Finder window, and +Enter Time Machine.+ You should be able to see all the files belonging to that user.
And be very careful using the Finder or Terminal on your backups: Apple doesn't do a very good job of warning folks, +*never move, change, or delete anything in your backups, as that can corrupt them,+* sometimes beyond repair.

  • çnow won't sync back to my iPad because it says I don't have permission on this computer. I don't want to download it from iTunes again because it took up a lot of bandwidth. What's the deal

I bourght "E O Wilson's Life on Earth" and backed it up to my iMac. Now it won't sync back to my iPad because it says I don't have permission on this computer. I don't want to download it from iTunes again because it took up a lot of bandwidth. What's the deal?
I also made the big mistake of downloading a free book about the making of the movie "Frankenweenie." Mega-memory eater. Now it wants to download additions and started to do so---now says paused. I can't delete the bloody thing. Seems like nothing I've downloaded, including free books, can be deleted. How can I get rid of this garbage?
Is there any way to just transfer my music from my iMac to my iPad and not affect anything else on my iPad? The whole iBooks thing is just a mess as far as I'm concerned. Is there any way to just drag and drop?

"I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up."
Correct.  it does not magially appear in other places.  It will only be where you put it.
"I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. "
Correct as well.  Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

I can´t uninstall Itunes, quicktime, bonjour, etc. it says i don´t have permission to access the key???

Yep, there seems to be an issue with this. In addition to getting that error on my iTunes on my PC, I get an error when trying to update apps on my iPhone 5.

  • My iTunes won't open. Says I don't have permission. Why is my computer doing this and how can I fix it so I can access my iTunes?

And is there someone who can help me resolve this problem? I've uninstalled iTunes but even when I put it back on, it says the same thing over and over again.

I'm having the same problem.  iTunes won't open and says I don't have permission.  What do I do now?

  • The New Itunes says I don't have permission to make changes. All I want to do is add stuff to my Itunes. What can I do?

The new Itunes says I don't have permission to make changes when all I want to do is add files to my itunes library.
    What can I do?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I'm trying to add a pdf to my ADE library - it says I don't have permission to do so

I'm trying to add a pdf book to my ADE library - it says I don't have permission to do so. I previously purchased the book, but have had to rebuild my computer after a failure. How do I recover this, and other epub books?

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order
