How often do they happen? What exactly are you doing when they happen? Do you have any external devices plugged in?

Today, after using my macbook pro to upload pictures from my iphone, my computer started having problems and shutting down. The screen goes gray and a box pops up saying that a problem exists and that I need to restart my computer. I've only had the macbook since last November, so I don't understand why I've been having so many problems with it. This happened a few times to a lesser extent in Senegal when I was there for 5 months. I used a mac power adapter so I don't think it could be an over-charge problem.

One of these devices could be causing it.
Then, grab your Install DVD, and boot while holding the C button.
Select your language.
Go to Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair Disk + Repair Permissions
Then restart, and every once in a while, add one of the keyboards/mice/iphones/hdd's one by one to see if they are causing issues & therefore identifying the culprit. -
My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse. I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze. When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally. Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine. But there are blue stripes on my screen. The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes. I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer. If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed. I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this? Is it the firmware or what? I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

I've just bought a Macbook Pro 15" and I'm trying to use Photoshop, but the resolution its displaying the images at for 100% are too small. I have to design for the web, so need to be intricate with detail, but I'm finding it adjusts the resolution of the image right down. (I mean you can see the image clearly, but it's too small to edit). When I look at Safari and see a web page at 100% it's clear, but the same page displayed in Photoshop CC appears 50% of the size (even though it says it's 100%) If I move the application window to another screen it adjusts it correctly – leaving all the pallettes, menus and tools correctly sized as they are on the retina display Is there some way to adjust the way Photoshop CC displays images so it is more consistent with what you actually see? There doesn't seem to be any answer on the Adobe forum, so hopefully someone here can shed some light. MacBook Pro with Retina display, 15", OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Photoshop CC 2014
I tested both ways. With "open in low resolution" ckecked the size of the images is cool, but it is low-resolution including Photoshop appearance.
If "open in low resolution" is unckecked the appearance is good but the very small size.

-MattIf you have another Mac, boot the non-working one into Target Disk Mode (holding down "T" at startup). Hook up the two Macs via a Firewire cable. The non-working one will mount on the other Mac as an external Firewire HD.
Next, download the 10.5.6 Combo update from here:

Run it. When it asks you for a destination, choose the other Mac that was mounted via Firewire. When it's done, unmount the computer and restart it. The keyboard and mouse should work now. -

I have Macbook pro A1286 and was wondering how to connect it to the tv and have audio?
Like the title says, I have a 15 inch macbook pro A1286 (from mid 2009) and want to hook it up to a tv. I also know that my particular model of macbook pro doesn't support audio from the mini display. I know that I will need a mini display to hdmi cable or converter and a hdmi cable if I decide to go for the converter for the video. I've seen both the cord (1 side is hdmi and the other is mini display just to clarify if I'm not using the right terminology) and converter online and any comments on which is better/preferred would be helpful. What kind of cable do I need to get sound to play through the tv? If you could suggest brands (unless all of them are about the same), I would be very grateful. It would be nice to know if the cords have to be specifically from apple just so I don't buy the wrong thing. 2012 MacBook Pro freezing and shutting down randomly
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro (15.4" 2.6ghz i7 model) and I'm having some serious issues with the laptop freezing up completely and also randomly restarting. The freezes are hard freezes as well, not simple hangs, they require me to hold the power button down to restart Occasionally when it shuts itself down and attempts to restart it will give me the dreaded "3 beeps" indicating a hardware problem. Strangely, if I hold the power button down so that it shuts itself off entirely and let it sit for a minute it will always restart fine afterwards.
I have swapped out the RAM for new modules and the problem has persisted. It happens at various times as well, sometime in the middle of the night while its asleep, other times while I'm actively using it, there doesn't seem to be a pattern to when it happens. Likewise they occur regardless of any externals in use as well (I have a 23" external monitor that occasionally use via a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter as well as some USB 3 & 2 external HD's, USB 2.0 hub and a Firewire audio interface. The freezes seem to happen even if I'm using the laptop by itself without any peripherals plugged in.
To make my situation more complicated, I upgraded many of the componants of the laptop upon purchasing it, so I can't really be sure if I have a faulty HD since my only experience with it has been in it's current upgraded state. I have a 256GB SSD as my boot drive and I replaced my optical drive with a data doubler with a 750GB WD HD.
It is not currently under warrenty nor do I have Apple Care so I'd like to do as much legwork as I can to narrow down my issue- I have seen other threads where people have had thier logic boards replaced and the issues persisted- I don't quite have the $$ to spend on that sort of repair unless it truly is the root of my problems.
What can I do to further troubleshoot my setup? The freezes don't happen regularly but they are often enough to be a problem. I am also a musician and use my laptop for live performances so I need to make sure this doesn't happen during a show!

Macbook pro freezing and start up problems
Hi, I have a 2011 model macbook pro that has recently started freezing without an apparent reason. When it freezes I can still move the mouse around but everything I click is unresponsive, and remains so untill I force it to reboot. In adition to this I have also been having problems when it boots up some times, in which it gets to the pale blue startup screen and then gets stuck there, and again it remains unresponsive untill I forc it to shut down and restart.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. -
Mid-2010 MacBook Pro: freezing and spinning wheel
Hi there,
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro (I know, old) that's been in very good condition. I upgraded my OS to Mavericks in May, which is when it started being slow and crashing/freezing around twice a week. For example, just doing normal things like surfing the web or checking the Airport or battery life will suddenly freeze the cursor which will then turn into the spinning wheel of death. Sometimes I can wait it out if it's a few minutes but sometimes I have to manually turn off the computer and then turn it back on when it's been hours of no change or improvement. I know it's probably best to downgrade back to Snow Leopard but I'd really like to keep my OS. Are there other things I can do to optimize my Mac? I've tried keeping fewer files on the desktop and emptying out the trash often and it seemed to help for a while. Other suggestions?

Thanks for your reply. I had to wait a few days for the problem to crop up again. I followed your instructions to the best of my ability. The thing is that the problem (i.e. freezing and spinning wheel) happened at 8:19 and the closest messages in the Console were are time stamped 8:17 and 8:25. Why does my MacBook pro freeze and how do i stop it?

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro, late 2011 13'' 2.4 GHz. It has started freezing alot. I don't know if it needs more RAM, a problem with the hard drive or faulty application. So I was just wondering if anyone could give me advise on how to stop it and why its happening.

Macbook Pro freezes and I can't do anything
So for two week my Macbook Pro 15" 2,2 GHz mid 2007 suddenly beginning to behave very strange. It have happened around 4-5 times and there seem to be no obvious reason to why it happens, like a certain application that I just launched ie.
What happens is that suddenly nothing works. I can't move the mouse, no keyboard shortcuts works - it all freezes. The only thing to do after around five minutes is to shut it down and restart it. I guess it's really unhealty but since the computer doesn't reacat at all I can't find any other solution. Is it anybody that recognize this behvaiour? Could it be the hardware or software? I have checked my internal drive with Disk Utility and there was no problem. I repaired some permissions but this has happened again after the repairs. I want to share system messages but don't know what part that is of interest, it would be nice if someone wants to point me in right direction.
thx in advance // thuthiI recommend you take the computer in to an Apple store for a complete diagnosis. There is no cost for this service. If a repair, such as a new battery, is needed and you want Apple to do it, you will have to pay for that.
