all my system fully updated ( MB bios , drivers ...security updates ...etc
my story :
being a big fan of the game world of the warcraft made me always thinking of getting the best VGA cards , this lead me to the idea of upgrading my VGA from ATI x850xt to get a new MSI 7900GTX 512 PCI-E
things were great for the first 4 months , nothing was there , best ever VGA i may get and use , almost one months ago i had to install the game again due to many suddens errors ( mainly corrupted files in theg ame folder )
since then i started to have things i would never had before , what im having now is
1- game screen start to have long lines , screen freez then system crash with BOSD saying i have nvidia error dll file ,
2- my game kept always having corrupted files and i always had to reinstall ,
what i have tried are
updating , rolling back the VGA driver ( from MSI site and the NVIDIA site) , updating the BIOS of MB form gigabyte site
formatting and getting a fresh copy of winXP
reducing the clock speed to min (eventhough my card temp never passed 60 degree)
i did also a mem test on my rams , i found that my corrupted files was cuased by one of them , so when it was removed corrupted files problem was fixed , however my card still crash and nothing changed
i tired useing opengl , nosound , and reduced all VGA options to be off at the game setting , but still crash
i already contacted tech supp at MSI and used the driver they advised me to use , but nothing change ,
the VGA crash happen in a wiered way , sometimes it can stay for 6 hrs without a crash and sometimes every 3 mins
and somtimes it crash at the login screen even before i start the game
i just dont know why it was working for 4 months and crashed now
now my question , is my VGA became a dead card like my ram and i should buy a new one , was that caused by the PSU , should i get a new VGA and keep the PSU or should i get the two of them new , and is there any way to fix my VGA to make it working as before ,
btw , i have tried many 3D games and all give the same crash

This error message could result from an incorrect setting for date and time, or an operating system which does not have the latest updates installed. It's a good idea to have your location setting on automatic. Turn on the wi fi in your mac for a minute or so, to allow it to automatically search for your present location. Do this even though you have the correct time Date settings displayed.

There was a problem with FaceTime. You need to quit and open FaceTime again.

I have tried doing everything that people have posted to try and fix this problem...NOTHING has helped!

I got it to work, by observing and doing the following...
1) Console showed a permissions error accessing ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.imagent.plist. Turned out that folder was empty and only 'system' had access to write to it, so I set my main user as having read and write access (Get info on the folder, add the user at the bottom under permissions)
2) Still wouldn't work, but I saw something about imagent. Searched my hard drive via terminal for it, and found that inside the FaceTime app is an imagent.app. So, I launched that. It has no interface but shows up on the Dock.
3) Launched FaceTime. Yay! It works! BUt I have to launch imagent manually first.
4) Went back to ~/Library/LaunchAgents and deleted the com.apple.imagent.plist file which was still at 0 bytes. The next time I launched FaceTime, it created that file, and didn't need imagent.app to launch manually.
Your mileage may vary, because you may have different errors.

A newbie in need of help and advice

I was wondering if someone could help and advise me...
I got my macbook at the beginning of the year.. I love it, so far. BUT as its my first mac, I know nothing about them or how to proceed.
I understand there is a thing called 'bootcamp', where I can install Windows. I have just started college and a lot of the stuff I will be working on in class, I would like to continue at home, so I need windows.
Obviously after persuading my hubby to buy me a mac, I cant turn around and say its no good for college work. Now this bootcamp and installing windows... would I get virus's like a normal windows computer? This was my big thing about buying a mac, the lack of virus.
How do i even go about getting windows? etc

Hi Nic,
You can buy your own genuine copy of Windows from either Microsoft or a reliable reseller like Amazon. I would recommend Windows 7 Home Premium. On Amazon you can find a reasonable discount at the link below.

Once you get your copy of Windows, you can proceed with the Boot Camp installation.
1. Open Boot Camp Assistant after backing up important files and documents.
2. You should have a Snow Leopard OS X DVD on hand if you bought the Mac last year. If you don't, click the bullet that says "Downoad the support software for this Mac," and you should save all of that to some external source like a flash drive or external hard drive, CD, DVD, something.
3. If you do have an OS X DVD, click that bullet instead.
4. Partition your hard drive. It may sound intimidating but all it means is divide the space according to how much you want to give Windows and how much you want to leave for Mac OS X. Dividing in half is usually the easiest way so click "Divide Equally."
5. Click Continue and when you are prompted, insert the Windows DVD and click Start Installation.
6. When the Windows Installer prompts you to select a place to install, click on the partition of the hard drive that says "BOOTCAMP" and click Drive Options > Format so Windows can install correctly. It will tell you it won't be able to install at first, but when you click Format under Drive Options, it will be able to.
7. Proceed with the Windows installation. When it has to restart, hold down the Option key as your computer turns on and select the hard drive that says "Windows," NOT the CD/DVD icon that says "Windows".
8. Continue with the installation. When it is done, you can insert your Mac OS X DVD (on Windows) and install the Boot Camp drivers, or if you saved it to an external source, connect it that way and install.
9. To change between operating systems, just restart the computer while holding down the Option key and when the menu appears, double click on the OS you'd like to start up with.

Need Advanced Help on Opening a Crashed Project

I'm sorry to post many issues lately, but I've had a heck of a time this week trying to fix and recover a RH WebHelp project that is driving me nuts.
Today, I had just about finished re-importing all of my topics into a new project I had created that would have solved a rendering issue with my QT browser (I know it was working, because I uploaded output files throughout the day to my viewing machine and they worked great), when I happen to view one of my topics in HTML mode and noticed what I though was "errant" html code introduced from earlier "incident" (that's a story unto itself). I don't know why, but I deleted the <?rh-glo-start> tag on one of the lines in the topic (it was in a cell in a table). When I went to save the topic, the RH saving icon just kept spinning around and around and I knew I had crashed the project. I couldn't open it after that.
I went to Peter Grainge's web site (http://www.grainge.org/) and tried the various ways to try to open my project, but to no avail:
deleted the CPD and use the existing XPJ file to open it
used RoboHelp to browse to the HHP file to open it
even removed the topic from the project folder that I did the HTML editing
Any other stuff I could try?

\..\..\..\.. isnt' a hard coded path. It's a relative path. Well, sort of. Typically a relative path is more like this: ../../../../
A "hard coded" path looks like this:
C:\SomeFolder\SomeOtherFolder\SomeFileName.Ext
LOL, perhaps we need a new term? Backward Cousin path?

I need your help and opinion on JNI

I am assigned a task to build one Java API above one existing protocol stack written in legacy C++, which involves UDP and TCP communication.
The C++ code involves callback method.
My qustion is:
1. I only tried some simple examples on one way trasfering, for example, invoke c++ from Java (HelloWorld example), and either invoke Java from C++. Is it possible to do it all together? I mean invoke C++ from Java and invoke Java from C++ for the callback methods at the same time?
2. Is it possible to do this with JNI? I doubt because it involves callback method in C++ code, so in Java, a interface should be created with the callback method declared inside it.
I really need your help!

1. Yes it is possible to call out of java into C, and back into java from C. And the tool of choice is JNI.
2. You better buy a JNI book.
3. As you get into it, you will probably find that designing around threading issues become important. Scan this forum.

I desperately need some help because I am at my wits end. In September I purchased a Compaq Presario CQ60-450US. Shortly after purchasing, I fresh installed Windows 7 Professional. Recently I decided to tried to dual boot ubuntu on the machine only to find that the installation failed because of CD read error. I know for a fact that the CD is not the issue because I have used this CD three other times to install ubuntu thus I came to the conclusion that the CD/DVD drive was bad.
I called HP support to get a new CD/DVD drive replaced only to spend 2 hours on the phone with a individual that decided to troubleshoot first trying to install ubuntu remotely (I informed the indiviual that the remote session would end), then by playing a DVD and "skipping throughout" the movie. He/she said that she could see no issue. (no diagnostic was run)I informed the individual that I had issues with buring as well. He/she proceeded to go online and install software asking me to demonstrate the issue after which the call got dropped mysteriously.
I called HP support back and told them that I am having an issue now burning. They proceed to connect remotely and look at the software the previous support individual downloaded and said that the software was not supported by HP. I informed the individual that I give permission to install any software needed to troubleshoot but the individual said that I could not be suppoted because I wasn't using the OS installed by HP. I was instructed to recover my machine to the OS that was installed with the machine if I was to continue to get support.
I informed the individual that the drivers and software are the same for either OS considering the CD/DVD rom is a plug and play device. The individual refused to help and told me I had lost my warranty because of my decision to install an OS directly from Microsoft or a third paper vendor.
That is where I stand. HP is refusing to give me support because I am not running their Vista Home edition even though my issue is hardware. I cannot find any warrent information stating that I need to have the original operating system installed on the machine to receive support. Can anyone point me to a reputable division that can help me with my issue? I feel I was just thrown aside so that they don't have to initiate a repair. If not has anyone filed a compalint against this outrageous support requirement?

I would like to say that I have some good -- or at least encouraging -- advice. Regretfully, I do not. I had issues with my dv7 practically since purchasing it a year ago specifically so I would have a reliable computer for school. My first problem: I bought my laptop a mere 7 weeks before HP started offering their free upgrade to Windows 7. Consequently, I was forced to purchase the full installation retail or continue to deal with the wonton freezes and system failures that inevitably occurred while I was working on homework -- courtesy of HP's installation of Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Thankfully, I was able to purchase a copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit through a significant student discount offer from Microsoft, and I had my new OS downloaded the evening of October 23, 2009; I had to give their servers time to free up, since it seemed like everyone and their dogs were also downloading what the reviews posted on CNET and PC World touted as being more reliable. I recall (I can't remember exactly which site this appeared) the statement, "Windows 7 is what Vista should have been from the beginning."
I was all excited and happy now that I had a laptop for school that had everything I was looking for: decent size hard drive, a fair amount of RAM, great 17.3" display with awesome colors, and a CDRW/DVDRW/Blu-Ray disk drive in the bay. Not only was I very satisfied with the hardware; it also came with a decent host of software that are thought was pretty cool, too. It came with CyberLink's DVD Suite 6 that I could activate simply by touching a soft button above the keyboard. Aside from Vista Home Premium crashing on me at the most inopportune times, I was exceedingly happy with my $1000 purchase and investment. Then came the "upgrade" to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit...Because I didn't have a "compatible" version of Vista, I had to do a full ("custom") install. In other words, I lost all of the cool features I originally bought the machine for in the first place...no more cool one-finger's brush software activation (still don't have that working), and HP Chat Support told me the same thing they told you. The following is a direct copy/paste quote from an email response I received from HP Total Care: "In order to help you relevantly I would like to request you to please revert back to Vista operating system and check whether the issue is persisting or not. If the issue is still persisting after reverting the operating system back to vista then we need to perform system recovery."
After pursuing my case for 6 months -- finally getting my case escalated to two HP Customer Care Case Managers in Texas/Oklahoma -- the best "customer support" I received was what I'm sure was a truly heartfelt and sincere apology... Oh, neither case manager was "able" to send me either the true upgrade disks that would have preserved the features purchased, nor were they willing to send me a stand-alone installation of the CyberLink’s DVD Suite 6 that is currently offered with the HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series. (In massive frustration and anger, I bought the CyberLink’s DVD software - $100 I didn't have to spend on something I had already bought...)
A month later (late March), MY CD-RW/DVD-RW/Blu-Ray drive stopped working. After an hour online with Customer Care, I had finally convinced the rep that the drive was working fine after my ditching Vista Home Premium, and that its failure had absolutely nothing to do with Windows 7 Pro. After giving the guy my credit card number as security, I had a replacement drive shipped to me.
My personal recommendation: clearly state that the hardware failure had nothing to do with whatever software or OS you chose to install. Bottom line: your computer is only 8 months old and is still covered under warranty, they can replace the defective part, or you can return the entire machine. You probably want to be the "Nice Guy" but you need to remind them that you have other brands available to purchase.
I don't know if that helps or not, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to vent! :-)

I have just taken the bold leap into Indesign and this is the first day of my 30 day trial.
I need help and advice from you good poeple...please.
I have been successfully creating A5 booklets (folded A4) using MS Word and printing to a desktop printer. MS Word sorted out my page order for me at printing time so the correct pages were put together.
I have been reading as much information as I could find but I am still unable to do the same in Indesign.
I'm looking forward to using the advanced layout features and having control over what I do but, I need to work out this basic step before I go any further.
I hope what I have explained makes sense.

So presumably you create a new document, A5 portrait, facing pages. Make sure your ducument page count is a multiple of 4.
Create, type, tweak, ponder, edit, smile, save.
To create you booklet using InDesign, from the file menu select Print Booklet.
You will probably need to jump back and forth from the Print Settings button adjusting Paper Size, Orientation, Color, and from the Print Booklet tab set for 2-up Saddle Stitch.
Much has been posted on this topic, these are the basics, Print Booklet is not the best module Adobe ever wrote, IMO

Help...MSI 975x Platinum PUE + Dual Core Center + MSI 7900 GTX

I have an MSI 7900GTX on my MSI975x MB. I've read the dual core center manual and it states that Dual Core Center can also monitor VGA temps and whatnot as long as it's an MSI Graphics card. Currently I am unable to monitor VGA stats on Dual Core Center due to the fact that it is greyed out. Can anyone tell me how to activate this feature?

To know you GPU temps, you can access it via Display Properties for nVidia cards and for ATi cards, you can view via the ATI Control Panel.

MSI 890FXA-GD65 PCIe speed issue!! HELP PLEASE

I just finished building my new PC using this said motherboard. After a clean OS install, all updated drivers, etc... my PCIe link speed is stuck @ 8x. I have done everything possible to trouble shoot this issue, and no matter what I do (I played with PCIe MHz speed in Bios, put card in another slot, etc) it seems to be stuck on 8x speed. Im thinking since this is such a new motherboard, and no BIOS's are out for it yet, that this may be a BIOS issue, and I just need to wait for MSI to correct this???? Any suggestions ya'll?? TY

here is my situation , in december 2013 my ant lives in usa she bought two iphones 5 one of herself and one for me as a present for my graduation this summer ,so her son ( my cusin ) set them up and he activated the icloud security in both of them , i mean he create an apple account for her device and one another for me , the problem is when my aunt came yesterday from usa to tunisia ( i live in sousse , tunisia ) and she gave me my present , i was really happy and when i came back home i restored it and updated but after i have done that and tried to open it as usual it was stucked in the activation lock of icloud security , i did contacted my cusin and ask him for the apple ID and password but the problem is that he couldn't remember it and even if he tried to reset the password he forgot about the security questions and answers ... please apple help me im really sad and upset about what i have done it was working great before restore ... looking forward for a positive email ,

It looks like the iPhone 5 is in a mode called Activation Lock. Please use the following article for reference and for information on how to resolve this situation. If your cousin doesn't know the password he may need to contact Apple support for help resetting it.

im having trouble setting photos to specific artist when the songs are playing and when it shows the songs description. that is possible to do right?

Right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Get Info." Under the "Artwork Tab" paste the photo. You do not need to have the album art in the "Photos" section of your iPod.
If you have multiple songs that you want to use the same album art for, you can select them all and do "Get Info" for all of them together; in that case there is a box for "Artwork" in the lower right of the resulting window.

All you have to do to fix this problem is to make the time and date on your phone or your iPad or your computer the correct time and date for today. The server certificates for most websites have expiration dates. How are machines are set up to revoke permission if you are trying to access the websites after the certificate expiration date. It's a real easy fix. Summary: make the time and date on your phone, computer, iPad today's date and current time, it should work after that.
