My Nano just went kaput!!!

I have to say that I am incredibly dissapointed by my Nano purchase last week. First of all, I can't find a case or cover being sold for the nano anywhere. So I purchased the armband and have kept it in there for some amount of protection. Yesterday I was walking through walmart andnoticed that the armband had opened up, but had not fallen off my arm. I secured the strap making sure that is seemed secure and didn't think anythign of it again. Fifteen minutes later I am walking to my car and hear something fall on the ground behind me. My nano took a dive and got scratched up right on the screen. I planned on writing an email to apple on how dissapointed I was that I had just blown three hundred dollars and a defective strap on the armband cause damage to my nano. The ipod still worked fine and I have been using it frequently since yesterday. About 25 minutes ago I plugged the ipod into my new imac and notice that a strange image popped up on the ipod. It looked like a black palm tree or something. I eject the ipod and play with the buttons, but nothing happens. On the bottom left corner of the screen I can see the first part of words on the menu and I realize that it isn't a bizarre palm tree I am looking at. My screen is broken!!!! My ipod is now unuseable!!!
After purchasing a regular ipod, an iMac and now this nano in the last 5 weeks, this is the first time I have not been 110% satisfied with an apple product and it is the most dissapointed I have been with any purchase I have made in years.

Others who have a screen problem claim they didn't drop it. Sounds like you have a complaint about the arm band. The screen is likely broken from dropping the iPod as this is the last thing that happened before the screen went out although you did use it for a while before it finally gave up.
When you drop something like an iPod or any other fragile electronics the chance of survival is not great. Cell phones seem to do pretty well. Ipods have never done well (arstechnica review not withstanding).
I am so sorry for what happened to you. I would be totally bummed. There have been several folks in these boards saying the arm band is made for certain size arms and to be careful. I guess they can't make them for all arms.

My 16 gig, 7th generation ipod nano just died yesterday.
I assumed it just needed recharging.
It is not responding. I have complete black screen even when its hooked up to charge....and it wont turn on.
    Help!!!!
I got it as a birthday gift around the end of May, its brand new.

Clean out the Lighting connector on the bottom of the nano, clean Lightning connector cable, make sure your computer is not set to go to sleep and connect it to the computer and let it charge for 30 minutes. After this time, while it is still connected, hold down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

  • Another mini just went dead

I have been reading a few threads about iPod mini's that went dead. That's because I have the same problem with mine and clearly it doesn't seem to be that exceptional. I have my mini about 14 months now which means it's out of warranty. I'm not using it very frequently, only when I'm travelling and once in a while in the gym. Last time I've used it was about 3 weeks ago and everything was normal. I wanted to charge it again for my next trip to the US this week but it just isn't working anymore, apparently it just went dead. My local Apple store said they can't do anything about it and since it's out of warranty, they cannot replace it, which I can understand. They offered me a new mini for a lower price, but I think it's still too much for a replacement only 2 months after warranty. I also don't understand why they didn't tell me about the battery replacement plan, about which I just read on the site. I requested to buy a new nano for a lower price in exchange of the mini, but they refused.
Anyway, it seems there's nothing I can do except complaining here and share this with the rest of you. Obviously, I'm very disappointed that I lost my mini just a few days before my trip, not to mention the money spent on an item that went useless too quickly. But also, this was my very first Apple product, which I liked so much and made me excited about the rest of Apple's stuff. I was planning to buy an iBook, I was looking forward to the next generation iPod (maybe after nano?).
The thing is, I didn't damage it at all, it actually still looks new, and nothing happened with it. It feels very unfair because I cannot put the blame on anyone. However, if this is how Apple products work, I don't think I'll spend another penny on them.

JL4, thanks for mentioning the possibility of resetting my iPod. That's what I did and my mini is working again! I know it makes me look like a complete moron after complaining about it, but just consider: I went to the biggest Apple Centre around and they said it was dead themselves!
And Carl Worlf: I was not in a real huff. I was only very disappointed because it's so unfair that it just stopped working, seemingly without any reason. I always treat my stuff with good care. My mini was perfectly working at one time, the next it didn't respond to anything anymore. Well except then the famous reset method.
Finally, I think it's fair to blame Apple support for a) not mentioning (their own!) battery replacement program (I knew because I found it on the web when returning from the Apple Centre), and b) they apparantly don't know how to reset an iPod.

  • I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, what do I do to fix it?

I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, how can I get it back on?

He's asking what are those things you are using, i.e., ...
What video card are you using?
What version of OSX are you using?
What model of mac pro are you using (e.g., 2010 Mac Pro is 5,1).
    And also,
    Try smc and pram reset.
And see if the monitor lites up if you boot in safe mode.
It is possible your monitor simply failed -- its power supply or something else.

  • HT201263 my phone just shut off and will not come back on no matter what I do. It was working fine then just went compeltely dark and is unresponsive. Help!!

My phone was working fine, then just went completely blank, and now is totally unresponsive

Plug it in to mains power for at least 15 minutes.  If it doesn't automatically come on, try a Reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card. The serial number on my computer is: RM620603R6W. Apple won't help me because the computer is older than suggested. Please give me the exact video card that will work best for my computer.

Hi Mike, make sure the card has Mac ROM, or is a PC card with Mac ROMs flashed to it...

  • My ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. I do?

please help me my ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. what I do?

    Hey saintbless,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines troubleshooting information for iPod nano. While it mostly refers to the 6th generation, most steps apply for your model as well:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3474
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
    - Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
    - If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
    - If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    - If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Has any Coldplay fan lost purchased content within iTunes, I have recently noticed my Coldplay Live 2012 purchased on iTunes is gone from my iCloud library and no longer available for purchase ! A bit strange considering there new album just went on sale

Recently I have noticed my iTune purchased concert movies after being put back in the cloud are currently missing.
I have never had purchased content from iTunes vanish from my iCloud library and also not be available for purchase on iTunes.
When I had Apple personnel attempt to push the content back to me, they could not find Coldplay's Live 2012.
Even more strange considering their new album just went on sale and renewed interest must be prompting fans to review their collections.
A beautifully shot concert film is missing, a sad situation to be sure!
Thanks for any iCloud wisdom and other fans noticing the same thing.

  • My iphone 4s' screen in broken, without dropping it.it just went hazy white to dark green and i can no longer see my screen, can i have a screen replacement?

My iphone 4s' screen is broken. I haven't dropped it or anything, or else it must've shown through its physical appearance. It just went into hazy white and green and now i cannot use it. Can i have a replacement for it? Thanks

Apple doesn't replace the screen, they replace the entire phone.  If you've tried the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) and your screen is still broken, bring it to Apple for replacement.  If you're not in the warranty period, you will pay $199 for the replacement.
