My new ipod touch is not recognised in itunes or Windows 7 on any of my computers/laptops.  I've followed the online advice and still no luck.  Help much appreciated!

Does it charge?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Try another cable
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

My Ipod Touch is not recognised in itunes or my computer but still charges when connected via USB Please help

Did plugging it into another USB port do any good? Make sure it is a USB port on the back of your PC and not via a USB hub or one on the front as they sometimes do not output enough power for the iPod to properly communicate with your PC.
Do you have another 30 pin dock connector cable around you use to try and rule out a faulty cable?
Did you try a hard reset of the device with it still connected to your PC?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
With the article above were you able to verify that the Apple Mobile Device Service was installing and running on your system?
Lastly, try plugging it into a different PC to see if it is recognized there.  It can help narrow down whether it is an issue with the iPod or with your PC.

  • TS1363 My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  Is this repairable?

My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  I have tried a variety of options, even resetting, but still no luck.

What does the iPod's screen say or do, when you connect it to USB port on the computer?
The article referenced is for "regular" iPods.  An iPod touch is an iOS computer, so this article would be more appropriate for troubleshooting.

Be sure to rule out a faulty USB cable as the cause.  Try another cable, or try the cable you have with another device that has a dock connector.
Also, you should do this test to rule out a problem with the USB port (such as lack of power or USB device conflict).  Shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices, including any hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).
Then, start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.  If it still does not connect, connect something else to the same USB port to confirm it is working.  Preferably, use something similar, such as a USB flash drive or external drive.

  • New ipod touch 5 not recognized in itunes

    Hi -
Just got new ipod touch 5 with new style connector.  I have latestest version of itunes (even uninstalled / reinstalled it 10.7.0.14) Pod has been fully charged externally, Pod is not recognised through USB port direct connection - I have tried all USB connectors on my WIn7 32bit machine and a system reboot.
I just cant get my ipod to be recognised by itunes so cannot get any music / etc onto new ipod touch
    Assistance very much approeciated

Well - after some further work - I was able to solve this,
buy deleting the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under 'USB Controllers' in 'Device Manager'
    Plugging device back in
And allowing internet search for drivers - this time device has been discovered and able to show in iTunes

  • New IPod Touch will not sync with Itunes-updated to iOS 7.1.1 for new IPod

Just purchased new IPod Touch (purchased 6-3-14 - had a Classic until it fried). After setting it up, I tried to sync to ITunes and it says it syncs but does nothing. No music transferred to IPod. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 if that means anything. This is very frustrating as I am not a computer whiz and really want to use my IPod in my really long commutes to work. Thanks for any insight...

    Hi abbeyesque,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your iPod touch is recognized and syncing, but it isn't transferring the content that you expect to be transferred. Take a look at the article linked below, it will show you how to select the iPhone in iTunes and where the tabs are (second picture) that control what is synced to the iPod.
iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
    Sync using USB
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable.
Click the Device button in the upper-right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button first.) If you don't see your device, you may need to hide the sidebar. Choose View > Hide Sidebar.
Some tabs may not appear if you don't have the corresponding content in your library. For example, if you don't have any podcasts in your library, the Podcast tab won't appear.
Click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen, to sync.

  • New iPod touch issues. not recognizing in iTunes

i just got a new ipod touch and installed everything and itunes will not recognize the ipod. I went on support and tried what it said by holding down the sleep button and the home button at the same time until the apple appeared and then closing out of itunes and opening it up and plugging the ipod back in which helped it to recognize. the ipod then went into recovery mode and said it needed to be restored. Restoration began however, the connect ipod to itunes screen disppeared leaving a lit up and black screen and a window appeared in the "preparing ipod for restoration" stage that said "ipod could not be restored. an unknown error occured (1604). any ideas? oh and then the thing on the side that said ipod disappeared and it stopped recognizing the ipod again.

    Welcome to the discussions,
Error 1604 points at a problem with your USB drivers/connection.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

  • IPod Touch 3G not recognised by iTunes after update

I recently updated iTunes to 11.1.4.62, but now, my (admittedly, rather old) 3G iPod Touch, isn't recognised by it at all. It charges fine through the computer, and is recognised by the computer, it's only iTunes that won't see it - I'm worried that because my iPod's so outdated, it's being left behind by iTunes. My iPod's software is 5.1.1, and I'm running Windows 8 - any ideas on how I can resolve this?

  • IPod Touch 2g not recognised by iTunes

With the new iTunes 11.1.4, my iPod Touch 2g is no longer recognized by iTunes (Windows 8 64 bit), although it appears in 'My Computer'. I have tried all the suggestions in the appropriate 'Help' page. A search of the internet shows that this is not a unique problem.
As it is the only music player that I possess, I am rather irritated.

  • IPod Touch will NOT sync in iTunes for Windows Vista

I get this error message. "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."
Well, I did that, then I reinstalled iTunes. The AMDS didn't reinstall with the iTunes software! Instead, it kept rolling back again and again. I uninstalled iTunes again, made sure everything was deleted with Windows Install Clean Up, then tried to install iTunes 8.1. Well, this installed AMDS, but it also installed iTunes 8.2 instead - and I am getting the same error message again. Is my iPod touch completely useless now? I can't update the songs on my computer to it, so what am I supposed to do? My computer is recognizing it and saying it connected and allowing me to open it, but it will not appear in iTunes. HELP!

IS NO ONE FROM APPLE WILLING TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE? This problem is being discussed all over the internet. Something is WRONG with iTunes 8.2 that is PROHIBITING iPod Touch devices to sync with it. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? I have been unable to contact ANYONE about the issue, and a support person literally hung up on me while I was explaining my problem, like he knew what was happening. WHAT DO I DO? I have a non-updated iPod Touch that is just being WASTED because I can't sync it with the newest version of iTunes. APPLE, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

  • IPod Touch is not recognized by iTunes on Window Vista

I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and I just can't get my ipod touch recognized by iTunes on this laptop, nevertheless it does recognize my iPod Nano 3rd gen. iTunes version is 7.7.0.43
If I connect the iPod Touch on another laptop with Windows XP and same iTunes version it is recognized and sync.
Is there any patch that I have to download?

OK the Diagnostics helped me to solved the problem. Thanks.
The problem was that the AppleMobileDevice was not working, so I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it to get back the AppleMobileDevice.exe but then I started to have the following problem:
On opening iTunes the message "AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working" repeatedly appears
I fixed it following this discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/ann.jspa?annID=640
    Run AppleMobileDeviceHelper as an administrator.
    1. Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin folder.
    2. Right-click AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
    3. Click the Compatibilitiy tab.
    4. Enable the checkbox "Run this program as an administrator".
    5. Click Apply.
Thank you for your time. =D

  • IPod Touch 4 not connecting to iTunes on Windows machine

I have an iPod touch 4 using OS version 5. Until a few days ago when I attached it to my Windows XP Pro machine it would show up in iTunes. Now it does not. Any ideas?

Well I did as instructed and iTunes is PRESENTLY seeing my iPod. A bit concerned though. It worked after restarting the Apple Mobile device service.  I am concerened because 1) I had already rebooted the system which I would think would resolve the issue the same way because the service is set to start automatically. 2) the service APPEARED to be running and all I did was stop it and restart.
These being true I wonder if this is a one time fix or if I will have to do this after every reboot or even everytime I attach my iPod.
But it did work so thanks.
