My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion) will not log into my 1and1 server to connect to my e mail. My snow leopard macbook does not have this problem - Apple support say it is a 1and1 problem! do I have to wait for an update of Mountain Lion?
My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.1) will not log into my 1and1 outgoing mail server. ( It will receive mail - but does not send)My old Snow Leopard macbook does not have the same problem ( server settings etc. are identical) . Apple Support say its a 1and1 problem , 1and1 say it is an operating System prob - I have tried changing port numbers.
My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

I seem to have lost fax capability with Snow Leopard.
Does not appear in Print as before. Cant find fax in System Preferences. No drivers for fax found.
Initially said it was downloading software but no longer does this. Fax test works on HP site.

iPhoto6 on iMac running SL - after a full reistall of Snow Leopard, iphoto does not display thumbnails. I've restored the library from time machine, rebuilt the library from iPhoto and run through the rebuild thumbnails function with no success. The files are there, I just get a dotted outline instead of the thumbnails. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to restore the thumbnails?
Try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

ICal could not log into the caldav server
Hi,
I have a OS X Lion server that i am trying to set up for home. I have made an account for myself and have got mail running for it but when I go to turn on Calendars and Reminders, i get the error message iCal could not log into the caldav server "me.com". One I am not sure how this has anything to do with me but anyway, the mail compnent works. Also when i go to the folder webdav via browser servername/webdav/ i get permission denied. I also get and Unathorized message when I try to specifically access the calendar via adress https://servername:8443/calendars/users/username/ I mention the permission denied stuff because i am assuming they are all connected to the Calendar service (ie it runs on caldav which runs on webdav). can anyone help with this as I would like to get this working.One possiblity is that the user you created has not been granted access to the calendar service. How did you create the user on the server, via Server.app?

Snow Leopard Installer does not recognize Hard drive in disk utility.
I first at the suggestion of apple technicians because of other problems erased and partitioned hard drive. Now when I go to reinstall Snow Leopard it does not recognize the Macintosh Hard Drive, not even in disk utility. Any help will be greatly appreciate.
To make sure we understand everything correctly, you are saying that when you start up from the Snow Leopard DVD & run its copy of Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, it shows only the DVD installer disc itself in the list on the left of Disk Utility's window? There is nothing else there?
Also, what are you booted from when you try to make an image of the installer DVD, the DVD itself or something else? Are you using Disk Utility or something else to make the image?
This seems very weird for sure. If you were running from some hard disk copy of the OS, I would suspect that its copy of Disk Utility or some OS support file was corrupted, but if you are doing this from the DVD that is extremely unlikely unless the DVD itself is physically damaged.
Apart from that, pretty much the only thing left is a damaged hard drive or other hardware failure in your Mac. -

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/. -

After I install snow leopard, ical does not show all the events, or simple does not show the events of some calendars that I created.
Can somebody solve this problem? Is there some update for ical?Try the following:
1 - Go to your user account home folder, and open the library folder within it.
Look for the folder named "Calendars" and inside you might find a bunch of different folders with weird names. If they are there that means your calendars might not be lost.
2 - Look for the file "Calendar Cache". That file might be corrupted. Trash it. You may want to save a copy of it elsewhere. Once trashed, re-open ical. This should force it to rebuild its library based on those folders with weird names you saw. Your calendars should be back. Good luck -

Snow Leopard sometimes does not shutdown
I've just bought MacBook with pre installed MacOS 10.6.1, then updated it to 10.6.2. Sometimes (approximately 1 of 5 times) it does not shutdown - there are only my wallpaper and active mouse pointer. - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
