My NiMH battery leaked inside my magic trackpad and i can't open it up - anything i can do to loosen it up?

i bought my magic trackpad last year and it's been a few months since i've used it. i checked it just now and seems at least one of the batteries have leaked (the one closest to the opening) because i see some white chalky residue on that end. i tried to open it up with the end of a spoon but the screw is stuck tight i don't know if there's a way other than sheer might to get it loose... or if my trackpad is even salvagable after the battery leak since i dunno what the damage is like inside (i.e. just the battery or the trackpad too?). i tried to look up some articles and it seems NiMH batteries aren't that prone to leaking so i'm not sure why mine did.. they're the reachargeable batteries provided by apple when i bought my imac.. and the trackpad has just been sitting on my desk in my room. does anyone have any advice?

Use a quarter to try and open.  If not from the US then try a similarly sized coin.  If it won't budge might try some WD 40.
If the trackpad is still in the year warranty, return it.

  • New mac mini - magic trackpad - won't do initial pairing (hence no anything

So I just got a Mac Mini server, and I've only had laptops in the house up until now (so no USB keyboards or mice), so I got a Magic Trackpad and the wireless keyboard. Upon booting for the first time, I get the expected image to turn on the wireless mouse to pair, so I turn on the magic trackpad and... nothing. I turn it off, I turn it back on. I turn it on and hold the power button. I turn off the MacMini and restart and try again. I do a little dance to the Bluetooth spirits, and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas aside from go out and buy a wired mouse? (Note: I cannot go to preferences, as I cannot get past this initial waiting-for-bluetooth-mouse-screen.)

Probably, it is because the Magic Trackpad requires at least 10.6.4 (and an additional update), or 10.6.5 (out of the box): so, if the install disc is only 10.6.3 or less, maybe it won't detect the trackpad.
You could try first with a wireless (for example, the Magic Mouse works) or wired mouse, and install the trackpad afterwards, after having updated the OS to 10.6.5.

  • Just installed Lion and the Magic TrackPad and I am having a problem with one click commands.  I have to hit the pad fairly hard with one finger to get it to accept the command.  Is this normal, is there another way that I am suppose to execute commands?

No you just need to turn on Tap to Click. Go into System Preferences - Trackpad and click the Point to Click tab and select the first box which will say Tap to Click and you should be in business.

  • Magic Trackpad and Logic

Just wondering if anyone is using the magic trackpad with Logic. I was thinking of getting it; I love the multitouch gestures on my laptop. But I'm wondering what people's experience has been with the magic trackpad and Logic specifically. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have it... but have not updated to 10.6.4.
It does move the pointer around really well... as soon as Avid confirm use of 10.6.4 with Pro Tools (my main DAW) then I'll be able to use it for surround panning, etc...

  • Magic Trackpad and Lion

I just upgraded to Lion and also bought a magic trackpad, i knew i had to install the magic trackpad and multitouch update but did'nt know that i had to before upgrading to Lion, now that i have Lion the trackpad update says that it doesn't support Lion. Is there gonna be a new update or may be i didn't download the right one but can't find any other,

I was facing the same problem with my iMac late 2008! Magic trackpad wouldn't recognize 4 fingers gesture to enter in mission control in the vertical, but changed between desktops using 4 fingers gesture in the horizontal! Besides that, magic trackpad wouldn't let me drag icons or drag windows to move them around! I tryed doing what Tommie expleined and it worked! Both issues were solved! Thanks!

  • Magic trackpad and mouse

Can I connect and use both a magic trackpad and usb mouse at the same time?

Duncan, I think you'll find that you use the the Trackpad so much that the mouse will just sit around unused.  That's what happened to mine.  It's always good backup though.

  • Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro

I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.
I am filing a comment about this on Apple's feedback forum at www.apple.com/feedback at the advice of a Genius at the Apple Store at Cambridgeside in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.

  • Magic Trackpad and Logitech keyboard hangs with Mavericks

Since updating to Mavericks, both my Logitech keyboard (DiNovo) and Magic Trackpad hang when chaning from one window to the next. I've reinstalled the latest drivers from Logitech, but that did not have any affect on the problem. Am I alone?

I had the same problem.  I had the DiNovo and the Magic Mouse connected to my iMac.  After the upgrade to Maverics, both devices would hang frequently (both when I selected to a new window and otherwise).
I got fed up and installed a USB keyboard, decommissioning the DiNovo.  I would have put away the Magic Mouse too, but I couldn't find my USB mouse.
Funny thing is, after I removed the DiNovo, the Magic Mouse seems to be working fine.

  • Magic trackpad and iPad?

This may be too soon to ask but does anyone know if the new magic trackpad will link to iPad?

To introduce the trackpad or a mouse as a pointing device should be rather simple. Compare the Wacom Bamboo pad. It maps the screen onto the pad, so that pointing at the pad has the same effect as pointing at the screen. The same should be possible with the magic trackpad. The cursor has little to do with it, but of course there are many apps that have one (webform, pages,...). I think it is an omission that we may link a keypad to the iPad but not a pointing device. Without one the docking station is quite useless.

  • Magic Trackpad and Win 8?

Is it possible to use the Apple Magic Trackpad with a Windows 8 Laptop.  If so is there an idiot sheet to explain how?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Apple hasn't released Boot Camp drivers compatible with Windows 8, so you have to wait until Apple releases them. It usually happens with a OS X update, in this case, it's probably that they will be launched with OS X 10.8.3

  • Magic Trackpad and Inkwell

I'm wondering why Mac OS X's built-in Inkwell (handwriting recognition) doesn't activate when Magic Trackpad is connected. Yes, I realise that originally Inkwell activates when a graphics tablet is connected, but I think the Magic Trackpad is sensitive enough to be able to do handwriting recognition. After all, it already uses OS X's Chinese handwriting recognition.
Anyone as puzzled as I am?
    (see Inkwell, http://www.apple.com/accessibility/macosx/physical.html )

Anyone as puzzled as I am?
As far as I can see there is no connection between the multitouch trackpad, either on a laptop or the new Magic one, and Inkwell. Handwriting recognition is only for Chinese (not even Japanese, much less English or any other language) and is handled by a special app. It's just not a graphics tablet as required by Inkwell.

  • It is possible to connect the magic mouse, magic trackpad and the apple wireless keyboard at once on the same Bluetooth network on the new iMac?

I want to buy a new iMac but in my country the iMac just come with the magic mouse and I want the trackpad for the multitouch geastures. Can you help me with this question?

Yes you can have multiple Bluetooth devices connected simultaneously. I believe you have have up to 7 BT devices at one time.
Also you may find http://www.apple.com/support/bluetooth/ helpful.

  • Magic Trackpad and MAC OS X 10.5.8

I just purchased a Magic Trackpad. I have Mac OS X 10.5.8. Apparently, I need MAC OS X 10.6.X Snow Leopard for Trackpad to operate.
Where / How do I update from MAC OS X Leopard to MAC OS X Snow Leopard so I can use my new Magic Trackpad?
Is there a free download...or do I have to purchase the Snow Leopard software?
    Thanks,
    Ken

You can purchase Snow Leopard for $29 from the Apple store.
Do note that Snow Leopard will only install on an Intel Mac.
