My phone line is faulty and am unable to contact anyone to fix it.

I have a serious fault on my phone line. I am unable to send out phone calls or receive them on my landline. Can you please help me.

Do you get a dial tone? Is your BB working?
Have you tried plugging the phone in the hidden test socket?
You probably have a "one-leg broken" fault (technically "HR Dis"). A landline consists of 2 wires, both of which are need for voice, but only any 1 for BB. Usually when this happens the BB runs slower than usual.
To confirm this Please post your full router stats. For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings/ System/ (A)DSL Status. Also post 'Time Connected:' from initial Status page. Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.
It is likely that the break occurs between you & the exchange, but it needs EE to call out BT Openreach to fix it.

Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

I synced my sisters phone with my itunes and now all her contacts have disappeared and been replaced with mine and also photos... she has never done a back-up is there any way we can get all her contacts and pictures back?

Look under iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is there a backup listed for her phone? First thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. If you have not synced since screwing her phone up, restoring from that backup(if it exists) should restore her content. Do not sync after you restore her phone, eject it. So, first disable auto-sync on that same device pane in iTunes before you proceed. If this doesn't work, is your sister bigger than you? If so, run 'cause her data is gone .

i carnt hear my message tone, the sound it makes when the phone locks and opens, also i am unable to hear music when playing from my phone but my ringtone and alarm tone work.Ive made sure the silent button is not on,and the volume button on the side of the phone is just showing it blank instead of it going up and down.To try and fix this i have reset my settings and restored my phone, but now its just skipping the music i have purchased from itunes when in a docking station which is now another problem i have as well. Can anyone help????

    Hello dbrookes,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like even though the Mute switch is not on, sounds are not making the, well, sound they should, and the volume buttons make a blank volume indicator appear on the screen that does not show the volume level.
I wanted to recommend a couple of things.
First, I would reset the phone:
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If that does not resolve the issue, then you may want to try backing up to iTunes, and restoring the iPhone again but this time do not restore the backup and set it up as new to see if the issue persists without the previous configuration.
Just incase you need it, this article will help with that:

  • How do I get the ringtone I purchased on my phone to show up and ring for the contact I assigned to it?  It is in my itunes account on the computer, but not on the phone.  Bought it on phone.

I have an 16G iphone 5, which I inherited from my daughter.  I bought a ringtone to use for her, and it worked for a day or two.  Now, however, the default ringtone goes off even though the information on her contact says it is the purchased tone.  When I check the tones, and follow through from either the settings or from her contacts, when I get over to the ringtones, it goes to the default, but the default is no longer in alphabetical order when you access the list from her contact information.
I could not find the ringtone on the phone at all.  When I accessed itunes from my computer, it shows up as a purchased tone.  I synced the phone and the computer, and tried to download the tone back onto the device, but it is still not there.  What do I do now?

    Hi redspot,
Apple Store is not the same as the App Store. You cannot delete the App Store app from your device. It may be on a different Home Screen, in a folder, or not visable because Restrictions are turned on:
    1.     Check all Home screens to see if you can find it
    2.     Swipe down from the middle of the screen to do a Spotlight search and type in App - the blue icon with the white "A" in the center is the App Store - if it is in a folder, it will tell you which one it got accidently moved into
    3.     Check Settings>General>Restrictions, and if Restrictions are on, make sure that the App Store icons are turned on to "Allow"
If none of that works for you, close all open apps: Press the Home bottom twice and swipe up on each of the Thumbnails that appear above your open apps until all are closed.
Also, reset the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears. Once the Home screen redisplays, see if you can see the App Store icon.

  • How can i have 2 seperate phones on the cloud and not duplicate my contacts and stuff?

I have 2 iphones on my account, when I set up icloud it merged both contact files, notes, apps and everything else.  the only way I have figured out how to keep it seperate is that I turned off the icloud sync on my wifes phone.  isn't there a way to have them both sync there own stuff?

  • Phone application locks up and unusable after 2.1 - how to fix?

After upgrading to 2.1, my phone application has become unusable 3 times. The previous 2 times I seemed to be able to get it unlocked by resetting a number of times but this last time I haven't been able to.
When I press the phone button, I get the dial screen but the green "Call" button doesn't have the text "Call" in it, none of the dial keys work and I can't select "Favorites", "Recents", "Contacts", or "Voicemail". Eventually the phone times out back to the Home screen. I have tried holding down the home key until the application terminates and tried the phone again but the same thing happens.
What to do? Is there a reason this might be happening that I can fix? Restore or should I be returning the phone to the Apple store for replacement?
    Thanks for any help!

I haven't restored since updating to 2.1 I have backed up several times but by restore do you mean a reload of the firmware and the saved data or just a restore of the saved data?
    Thanks,
    John

  • I have 2 iPhones, from different carries and different numbers. Both with different apple ids and somehow I can still texts sent from both phones to other iPhones and I don't know how to fix it.

I had an iPhone from Verizon, and i got another iPhone from us cellular. I'm giving my old iPhone to my friend, and somehow we can both see each other's messages sent to other iPhones. Both have different apple ids and numbers. How do I fix this?

You probably activated the new phone will the old phone was still active. That would have linked the two numbers to iMessage. Go into iMessage and turn them off on each phone. Then turn iMessage on for your phone. When it activates, go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and see what numbers/email addresses are linked there. It should just be the current phone number and if desired, your Apple ID email address.
Then have the other person turn their iMessage back on and when it activates see if it now only brings their current phone number and again if desired Apple ID email address.

  • No phone line for 3 weeks, and no idea what is hap...

I reported a fault with our phone on 28Oct. The BT engineer came on 31Oct, at which point the phone was completely dead, and he said the wiring in our house was ok, the fault was in the line outside our house in the pavement in front of the house. The wire was worn away and needed replacing. The road diggers came 7Nov and dug a trench on the pavement in front of the house and showed me the wires, which were almost raw. They placed the wires in a tube, and re- tarmac'd the pavement, leaving the ends open. We then had to wait for the BT engineer to come back and replace the wires between the two holes. On 11Nov, the road men came back and poured cement into one hole. At this point we lost broadband connections to the house. I rang BT broadband to register the bt hub was flashing a red 'b'...they said they couldn't find a circuit to the house. The BT engineer arrived 2pm and said he couldn't replace the wiring 'cos cement had been poured into one of the holes before he'd replaced the wires, and the hole needed to be re-dug. He said the cement had probably caused the broadband line to go down. He rang in and registered all this. Nothing happened 12 and 13th. I rang BT 13th evening and was told the road diggers would come 14th and the BT engineer would come 14th and it would be all fixed today. No one came today. At 6pm BT rang and said the problem will be fixed tmrw. At 7pm BT rang and said as the road had been dug up today the cabling would be completed tmrw. I said NO ONE has dug up the road. They said it's all being done at the exchange and once they have replaced the joints and cables at the exchange tmrw it will be fixed. How can replacing the cables at the exchange fix the wires outside our house?? I have asked this question, but the Indian lady on the phone said it will all work tmrw. She is just reading a script.... I don't know who to talk to because I can't understand how it will all work miraculously tmrw. We have had no phone line since 28oct and no broadband since 11nov. Can someone please please tell me what is happening, because every time I ring I talk to someone in India who has no idea.

  • Setting up fax and voicemail on same phone line.

I have one phone line with voicemail and fax.  How do I set up the fax so voicemail doesn't pick up my faxes and the fax doesn't pick up my voicemail messages?  I have the fax and phone going through a splitter.  I just discontinued my separate phone line I used for faxing and internet and want to use a single phone line for everything.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.  Auntalee

If you have Verizon Home Voicemail (the kind you access by dialing a phone number i.e. no answering machine) I can't see how it would work.
Some fax machines can answer the phone listen for the fax tones and if it doesn't hear them it rings another phone or answering machine connected to it.
It comes down to something has to answer the phone, figure out what kind of call it is a route it to either a answering machine or a fax machine.
The only other way to do it with one line and Verizon voice mail is to get something called Distinctive Ringing service (if its available for Fios).  You get another phone number but not another physical line.  The one phone line rings differently for each number.  The fax machine must then have the distinctive ring feature and be setup to only answer it's ring.  The other ring it ignores which means VM will pick it up.
    Good luck

  • Why do I have to move my phone line from Sky to BT...

I have just spent the last 14 days trying to move my broad band from BT to Sky, I was told by Sky that I have to have a new phone number and as I was getting loads of unwanted phone call I thought that it would be a good Idea.  So any way I ordered a new number and broadband with sky.
Any way to cut a 14 day long story short, Sky cannot provide me with Broadband due to incompatible technology, so I really do not have any other option other than to come back to helpful BT.  Just phone BT up to order my BB to be told that they cannot help me unless I move my phone number back to BT..........
When questioned about this I was told that "I have to have both phone line and Broadband with BT"......... NO I DO NOT, in February 2012 I moved my phone line to Sky and my Broadband staied with BT, as there was a problem switching it over, little did I know then what I know now.
So could someone from BT 'in the know' please tell me why I have to move my phone line back to BT

    sorry mate.
Hadn't heard about TPON lines before today.
Doing a quick google search, found this:
"TPON stands for Telephony over Passive Optical Network
TPON was a method used by BT (now Openreach) mainly in the 1980s and early 1990s to deliver phone lines to new build areas where there wasn't enough existing copper capacity available. This decision was made before ADSL was envisaged, and as ADSL requires a copper pair route between customer and exchange, this means customers in TPON areas are currently unable to receive ADSL."
    Hope all is sorted soon.
    Cheers

  • Phone line needs "waking up"

Followingmonths of trouble three years ago our problem was solved by an expert here and the Care Team sohoping someone can help here.
Our phone line went dead yesterday. Panic. But the broadband was fine. So we went through the usual in house test regime and all seemed ok. I called my daughter on the mobile to tell her and asked her to try and call in. Yep, it worked. My husband then picked up the phone and hey presto - dialling tone. This has happened several times during the day. Line goes dead - I call in on the mobile- answer my own phone - out line is restored. It's as if the phone line dozes off and needs waking up. Haven't called the fault in yet as it's Sunday and  I thought maybe there's a very simple solution out there. And it does sound totally bonkers.
Hoping for a magic solution or failing that advice.

Hr (high resistance) fault on the line or a slight break in one of the wires. Dialing in causes voltage to be applied down the line to ring your phones. This can temporarily fix a hr fault.
Could be something else mind you like faulty exchange equipment.
Get an engineer out to check.

  • Dodgy Phone Line

I have been having problems with my phone line for sometime and initially thought it was mainly intermittent problems with broadband connection, but the problems using my landline has got worse, especially in very windy weather.  People phoning can either not get through or it rings a couple of times then cuts off.  If they do get through or I phone out the line is very crackly.
I have tested the line and it says it is ok, when I last phoned BT to report it I don't think they found anything and closed the case.  I am convinced the problem lies with my line being swallowed up by a tree in a garden a few houses away.  The line I can see is at very strange angles but have to say most of the line is engulfed by branches.  Does anyone know if this could be the reason for my problems?
I have said to the person who owns the tree about my line going through and that the branches are now weighing the line down in various parts, he said he would do something but he hasn't and my line is getting worse.  As I say it is definitly worse in bad weather so something is affecting it.
Any suggestions on what I should do would be great.

    Hi Elmoo2U,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. It sounds like the branches are hitting the line when it’s windy which would certainly affect the connection. The only way to get it sorted would be to go back to your neighbour and see if he’ll get the branches trimmed back. As the tree is on his property it would be his responsibility to get it sorted.
    Cheers

I booked a home move for Wednesday 17th September 2014 and received confirmation phone line would be activated that day on new home. new home has BT line and Infinity for previous customer. However phone line has still not been activated despite contacting order updates three times and them telling me each time I will get an update from line activation team within 12 hours. Told that infinity will take until 1st October but I really need phone line urgently.
