My plugin sometimes crashes on exit

Hi
i developped a 8bf plugin for Photosop™ and when i quit the plugin, i have sometimes issues:
1) the plugin window freezes and the plugin run forever.
2) the plugin crashes PS directly.
it happens more often when i've had some heavy computations
in the destructors, i only call delete if i've created some 'new' objects and that's all.
I almost feel like it would be better if i didn't include these deletes...
thanks for any answer
Jeff

You need to delete things you've allocated.
But it also sounds like you need to use a debugger while running your plugin to locate the bugs in your code.

plugin-container crashes and hangs many times daily all my time eaten up by upgrading too frequently to new Ffox versions, only to find that I must then spend a whole day jumping thru hoops upgrading almost all of my add-ons too.
I now find, to my horror, that the hideous virus-magnet IE 8 is needed if I want to surf at a reasonable speed and not spend all day dealing with Ffox new versions' Known Issues. Only good thing I have seen about ver. 3.6.15 is slightly better launch-times. Since 3.6 cane out, I must spend 10 minutes just waiting for Firefox to load and give me a browser screen. Help! I love you guys, but your core browser developers need to have better comms with the Javaa/flash/Adobe and other must-have add-on people! And PLEASE fix all these "plugin-container" crashes and hangs I get, that lock my machine for 10-15 min at a time. Not everybody has 16 gigs of RAM, you know! I think the "plugin-container" running as a separate process idea might need to be COMPLETELY re-engineered! YOU CAN DO IT! LET'S GET BACK TO LEAN AND MEAN, and not bloat ourselves off our hard-won User Preference / great security pedestal with the kind of feature-creep that IS DEMOLISHING IE's slave-userbase with the hard-won advanced-user preference for Firefox
    and our core values. FAST-LEAN-SECURE.
Where have they gone? I LOVE Firefox
and all it stands for! Let's not trip
over our own features here. Already I
    see SeaMonkey and leaner, faster
browsers hot on our heels, THIN and
FAST! Firefox doesn't need to integrate
    with EVERY thru-the-browser media tool
on the planet! I've been writing code
    since 1968, and I can't imagine how a
    lesser-experienced user (that code
should be written for) could possibly
    have navigated all the side-upgrades
and Known Issues to make Firefox run as
sweetly as it used to! He'd just give
up when he finds he has to separately
find and install the EXACT 3rd-party
version that Firefox needs for its
newest release: things like a new Java
runtime environment, and hunt down and
    correctly install ALL the Flaming-Phox-
compatible buggy plugins from half the
    browser-media warezmakers on the
PLANET! He'd give up halfway thru trying to navigate to, D/L, and install
what he needs from Oracle Java, Adobe,
Flash, media players and their codecs,
etc etc.... WRITE FOR THE NOOBS! As it
is, I have invested 2 full workdays in
just keeping your last 2 quick releases
happy. And having another release spaced only 3-4 days apart from the
last- well, that just doesn't fly.
Better to release a hotfix or patch that a user can set FFox to automatically D/L and self-install on
schedule. Just look! Now you've got me
    talking like that lawbreaking swine
Gates! We want to keep on absorbing
the average-user center and take it ALL
away from him, not go on feature,
    plugin, and upgrade-bloating the best
    browser EVER!
You're facing choices that can kill
us! PLEASE DONT BLOAT! AND PLEASE ONLY
RELEASE A NEW VER WHEN YOU CAN REALLY
GET RID OF SERIOUS PROBLEMS AND MAKE
HER FASTER AND LEANER AND BETTER UNDER
THE HOOD! Already the Noobs are getting
mindlessly scared when you talk about
"fixing a Security problem"- really a
minor issue that SHOULD be taken care
of by their antimalware solution- in
the Release Notes splash screen they
get on install of a new ver! Thanks, my
friends, for all your work, and YES I
WILL sit here all day trying to find
the add-ons that need to be selected,
    downloaded, and upgraded from 10
    different 3rd-party sites who are
fighting our browser, not dancing with
it! DON'T EVEN LOOK Evil! But I have
to confess that at this point, Gates-hate is all that keeps me on
    these all-day new-release tasks. Even
my best techs are starting to advise me
to install SeaMonkey or another of the
newer, thinner browsers... or just stop
upgrading Firefox and roll it back to
when it was sharp, fast, and lean! Look
at all the users wanting to go back to
3.6.13 or earlier and looking for archives of old versions. THANKS AND
GOOD LUCK! I'LL DIE BEFORE I GIVE UP ON
    MY BELOVED FIREFOX!
    -The CRASHMAN, ATTORNEY AT LAW

Thanks! I've already used the built-in plugin checker but it gives very vague answers like (research this" and update this" all of which I did, starting with Java and Flash, Adobe Reader, Shockwave, 100% reinstall of Java newest ver. TWICE- but FFox keeps reporting that I only have the FORMER version installed, although when I go to Java console or Check the Flash executable at the MFR's site, there is NO doubt that the updates were successful!
But the browser just seems to refuse to acknowledge the update!
And I don't HAVE 6 hrs/day at the 'puter just to play with add-ons
and plugups. So I'm going down the line now, ripping out extension
programs and replacing/reinstalling/updating the plugins one by
one- even went to M$ to get advice on THEIR For-Firefox ActiveX
stuff. No dice so far. And yeah, The plugin-container WAS made so
that a plugin, add-on or I guess extension app failure wouldn't take
the whole FF browser down with it if the 3rd-party ware crashed. It's supposed to shake it off and go on, kinda like how XP sometimes
restarts Explorer (not the IE browser) so I don't have to reboot the
    whole sys.
That was the foundation of my remark about stepping back and
re-engineering the whole "Plugin-container" idea, because it seems
to do more harm than good. Maybe that's why the Firefox core
engine won't recognize my upgrades- for example I TWICE installed the Flash update to 10.2.xx (latest ) and the Flash Mfr's
site verifies my upgrade as a successful 10.2, but Firefox plugins
check say I have a 10.1, the old one. What gives here? The sneaky
    PLUGIN CONTAINER, METHINKS!
Now I'm disabling things on the Extensions Apps list, thinking
that might help, like disabling my video downloader and other
download helpers/managers... and I notice that there is a LOT of
Java stuff in there too as well as in the blue Lego Plugins List... and
in the past the FFox always told me if a new version of Ffox was
incompatible with any older 3rd-party app Extensions and notified
me QUICKLY if something I had in there was Outdated. I'm big on
using the neat-o "find updates" button at the bottom if that happens, and usually get a newer version right away. The prob
really lies in the Blue Lego Plugins and their new Container, I
    believe.
So Ill still keep Plugin-innin' away! Will post here what success I have! (OR maybe M$ is deliberately sabotaging our ActiveX-cripple
mess as it loads!) Thanks for the suggestions a37271!

  • Weird colours with QuickTime sources, broken preview renders & crash at exit (CS4)

    Hi erveryone,
I have a strange problem in Premiere Pro CS4: Allmost all QuickTime MOV that I put in the timeline show weird, broken colours. At first I thought this was a problem with a specific codec, but I have now tried several codecs and pretty much every one shows up equally broken. The only codec that seems to work fine is the one that my Canon EOS 550D produces (1080p, H.264 I believe), but that one does not play smoothly (not that I would expect it to do on my machine). Strangely, H.264 in lower resolutions fails again. Other containers seem to be unaffected. Here is a screenshot of the effect:
Also, my preview renders (when rendering the effecs on the timeline) are similarly broken. They behave a bit erratically. Sometimes they are just black, showing nothing and sometimes they show a still frame of one of the previously viewed videos. Colours are messed up in a similar way, so I suspect a connection. Here is the same clip from the screenshow above, preview-rendered:
Also, upon exiting Premiere, it usually crashes. This is less of a problem, but still very weird behaviour.
Any ideas how I could solve this?
Infos about my system which might be of relevance:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (education version)
Windows Vista 32bit (SP2, all current updates installed)
    4GB RAM
    Intel Core2 Duo
ATI X1300 Pro  256MB (with newest available driver)
    QuickTime 7.6.6
The system has been freshly installed (from factory image - hence the older OS) so no malware or anything similar should mess anything up. Only software installed except the Creative Suite is Google Chrome.
On my laptop (Win7 64bit, Intel i5, no separate graphics card, same QT version) none of these problems appear.
    Greetings,
       Florian

I think I found the solution. Some further digging revealed that I did not have as previously assumed the latest driver for my graphics card installed. I was mislead because the manufacturer (Dell) did provide some updates, but not all of them (none in the past two years to be exact). I grabbed the newest driver kit from the ATI website and installed it. Strangely, the installer produced several errors and I get another error message at startup, but I think only the control software was affected and not the driver itself.
After some first tests, QuickTime movies behave as expected, the preview renders are working again and the crashes on exit are also gone. Yay!
Strange how much trouble a driver which is otherwise working perfectly can cause.

  • Firefox crashes when exiting on i7-920, OSX-10.7.2 Lion Fully updated

This happened before.. i used app zapper to remove FF8, then reinstalled FF 7.01.. no issues with 7.01. Verified Addons with Addon checker (everything up to date)
Used update channel to install FF8 ... Still Crashing when exiting Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Games.
Hardware info... i7-920, 6GB Ram, 1TB HD, Nvidia Graphics. OSX-10.7.2 Lion Fully updated
BTW Appzapper removed everything including profile... ITS NOT PROFILE RELATED.
Still Happens in Safe Mode... Going Back to 7.01 after AppZapping 8.0 .
Must be Related to some change in LION because FF8 works fine on Snow 10.6.8. Perhaps Permissions need to be modified in the Script for FF8, Perhaps Plugin related. Not Sure, but 7.01 Works without Crashing.

On Mac systems with Java version "1.6.0_29" (Java SE 6 Update 29), Firefox 8 will crash after running a Java applet when closing the tab or hitting the back button. This is a new crash that only occurs in Firefox 8 (or above) and is being investigated ([https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700835 bug 700835]).

I have started FF in Safe Mode and the error comes up. I've uninstalled it, renamed the install directory and still the error persists. I've updated the plugins to no avail. In Windows 7, this issue does not occur. Since it crashed upon exit, the Crash Recorder doesn't come up.

I've already started Firefox in Safemode and the same issue persists. I've also gone in and manually disabled all add-ons and againk the same issue.

  • CS5 crashes on exit; ATI OpenGL driver fault

    Hi Everyone
I was wondering if anyone else was having difficulties with PS CS5 x64 crashing on exit?
So far it is not a critical issue... but it is annoying; I have a developer's DNA and I hate seeing that error message...
If I do not load an image and exit the app; no crash.
The 32b version of PS CS5 does not exhibit this behavior.
    I am running a Dell M1645 Studio XPS 16 with an i7-840Q; 8GB RAM; Radeon HD 5730 Win 7 x64
I did not see this behavior with my previous Dell Core 2 Duo laptop (M1530).
Pretty sure I am running all the latest drivers; particularly 10-8 from AMD ATI
    Photoshop is fully patched. ATI OpenGL driver seems to be the culprit;

You still have a driver problem.
Go back to the ATI website and download the drivers to the desktop.
Go to this website and download this driver sweeper and install on the desktop.
    http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper-205-available
Click on the ATI installer icon: When you install the drivers again do not install but choose to remove all the ATI drivers.
When done reboot computer to the safe mode
Run the driver sweeper with the ATI option checked in the safe mode. Reboot
Run the ATI installer again but choose to install the package this time. Reboot
See if that fixes the problem.
Be advised that sometimes computer manufacturers will write software to make other drivers work with a motherboard. This may be true with your Dell computer. They may have written drivers so the card will work correctly with the motherboard. I don't think they did.

  • Flash plugin only crashing in Mozilla

    Have trouble when navigating facebook.
Mozilla hangs for 5 to 6 seconds, freezing every mozilla tab or window that is open and sometimes crashes.
On facebook I get the "script is taking too long" message but I suspect that it has something to do with flash cause from time to time I get the plugin container failed related to flash and some other weird behaviour with flash (see below)
    Things I tried:
    - Disable every plugin.
    - Running safe mode
    - Refresh Firefox
    - Disable hardware accelleration on the flash plugin
    - Disable safe mode for Flash plugin
    - Completely uninstal flash according to this procedure:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
I am running a recently freshly instaled win 8.1 on a 12GB RAM i7 quad processor.
The thing that makes me suspect is that according to this link:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
When I right click the flash logo for that procedure, Mozilla freezes, nothing gets displayed and some seconds later I get a "Shockwave Flash might be busy... stop plugin..." message
This is very annoying and I want to use Firefox but have been forced to chrome lately cause I cannot find this problem.
    Please, any help is appreciated.

Main problem is not using or not using flash.
Main problem is with facebook page hanging mozilla for several seconds at a time and sometimes getting "script is taking too long" I guess this have to do with the scritp that loads posts on your facebook wall as you scroll down but cannot find what is causing that.
    This only happens with Mozilla.
Searching for the cause, I found that odd behaviour with flash on that page wich maybe suggest the problem is there but I still haven't found a solution.

  • "If you get this error while viewing a webpage, it means a plugin has crashed. You can send a crash report to Mozilla by clicking on Send crash report. " but why do I not get the button "Send crash report"?

    Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.8
Since then, every web page that makes use of the Adobe Flash plugin shows me grey windows with the message "Adobe Flash plugin has crashed".
When I follow links telling me I can find out more I am taken to a Firefox Help page that shows an example of the same grey window with the same message. But there is a difference: directly under the "Adobe Flash plugin has crashed" message is shown a another message that says: "Send crash report". The Help page instructs me to click on that message because it is intended to be a link.
Unfortunately, on all the grey windows displayed to me on any site where this problem arises, no such message: "Send crash report" is present. So how can I send a crash report?!

You have the Ubuntu-specific build of Firefox - released as a package in the Ubuntu repository - and that has been built without including the ''crash reporter''.
(So-called 'contributed builds' usually lack the updater - in the help menu - too, because they have their own updater.)

  • Interactive forms takes too long to load - sometimes crashes reader.

    Hi Gurus,
I'm just wondering if anyone have this problem?
I just configured ADS and created a sample WD program to display an interactive form, the form is not complex, only 2 text fields and an image.
But when I deploy or run the program, the interactive form container hangs and take very long to process before displaying.
After I save the PDF file to a local drive, when I try to open it, it will take very long and sometimes crash my system.
Even when I click on "PDF Preview" to view the form in NWDS it take very long too.
At first I thought it could be due to my system and I open downloaded PDF file on other PCs, but the problem occurs too in those PCs.
Using Acrobat Reader 8.1.2, then downgraded to 8.1.1, still no avail.
Everytime I open the PDF or WD loads the PDF, when I check the Task Manager the process of AcroRdr32 will hog the system processes and use up the memory. I have no problems with other PDF files, only those generated by the WD application gives problems.
Someone hit the same problem? Any advise? Could it be the ACF or Adobe lifecycle issues?
Please help. Thanks for all answers.
    Best Regards,
    Jansen

    Hi Jansen,
If you are using Adobe Reader 8.1.* or above and activex controls in your form, you need to install the latest version of ACF and that will resolve the issue. And do remember to uninstall your old version of Adobe Reader first and then install Reader 8.1.* freshly and after installing it proceed with ACF installation. You have to follow the sequence.
For ACF installation you may read  Note 766191 - Active Component Framework Installation.

Problem with AdobeOwl.dll according to debug report. Also Variations not working. I can send jpg of crash report if you like.

It ran perfectly until about 1 week ago and I am wondering if it has anything to do with the latest Windows XP update to the Microsoft.NET Framework 3 as this is the only update I ran after returning from a weeks holiday.
