My preview mode icon doesn't work

Just upgraded to CS3 master collection on Windows XP
Very inexperienced on InDesign however. My preview mode icon does not work as it did on the CS2 version. I have to go view-screenmode-preview to see the preview mode - this is a bit of a slow way compared with just toggling the preview button as of old. But clicking the preview button just does nothing now. Any suggestions?

I can see it was a pretty stupid question now, so thanks for not growling at me. Guess I deserved to be told to read the manual. But I certainly did a search first to see if I could find the answer on the forum and I couldn't. The keyboard shortcut will definitely be my most common future method, but everything else you said is also helpful and useful.
This is my very first experience of the InDesign forum and it has been a good one, immediately helpful, just like my beloved GoLive forums which helped me build a career in webdesign.
Some of my clients now expect print work from me and I managed to produce the goods with ID CS2 a few times but even that was still new to me when I upgraded! But since I don't think my clients can see the slightest difference between web desing and print publishing, I'm just going to have to learn. Luckily its a fascinating process.

Welcome to the 'wonderful' world of HTML5 e-learning.
In my view, from the issues I am seeing everywhere, HTML5 output from rapid e-learning tools such as Captivate is not ready for the kind of mobile device e-learning you want to develop.
Sorry to be pessimistic, but you may need to consider going back to the drawing board and coding it from the ground up.

Since upgrade, I can't now tell the size of attachments added to email and the attachment link from the icon doesn't work properly. How can these be addressed?

Since the upgrade to mozilla and to windows was installed on my computer, when I use my hotmail account with mozilla, I now cannot tell the size of attachments. Previously you could see the size of attachments but now when the cursor passes over the attachment, this works on Internet explorer but not Mozilla. Also, the icon for attachments often doesn't work, nor the "send as an online document" nor the "No thanks" icon.

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.

Preview PDF Tab Doesn't Work

I have two installations of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro / LiveCycle Designer. The preview tab doesn't work on either installation for LiveCycle Designer.
My first machine is running XP Pro SP3 32-bit. When I click on the Preview PDF tab it previews, but I can't enter data into the fields when working on a static or dynamic pdf.
The other machine is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. When I click on the Preview PDF tab it the machine tries to open the preview up in Adobe Reader, but never actually opens.
What should I check? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I don't have the Windows 7 machine in front of me to test this on, but the XP machine behaves the same if I open up Reader or Acrobat before I click Preview PDF in LiveCycle.

Slider for scaling finder icons doesn't work if...

I enabled the statusbar in the Finder window which enables the slider to scale the icons. But it doesn't work if I switch from the column view to the icon view. But the slider works if I switch from the list view or the cover flow.

Wow, I was having the same problem and never noticed that if you switch from list or cover flow it works! Still annoying but at least it's a quick work around. I hope Apple notices this and gets a fix going.

What do I do if my phone is ALWAYS "No Service" and restart, reboot, airplane mode trick doesn't work?

My phone is always "No Service" even if I'm somewhere I used to ALWAYS have signal. I reported it to my carrier and they said that maybe it's because of the walls of our house that the signal can't get through but when I go to school which is far from our house, my signal is still "No Service" all throughout my trip to school. I kept on restarting my phone and I also did the airplane mode trick a lot of times already and it still doesn't work. So since this happened after I updated my OS, I thought of posting it here. My phone is iPhone 5s. I hope someone can help me fix this problem because phone signal is super important to me.

I would continue your troubleshooting with the article below. I would start at step 3 because you have already done the first two. Make sure to back up because you may need to restore your iPhone to get it to work.

Preview ok,but doesn't work properly when build dvd

everything is ok when preview but when i built to dvd folder,media player classic only could play separate dvd file,and no main menu. then i try windows media player, the main menu came out but none of the buttons work.

sorry about the multiple posts. mines is encore DVD 2.0 trial on windows XP. I've checked the help and FAQ but none of them related to my situation. I've got 1 sub menu with 1 main menu. no problem when preview but when i built a dvd folder it doesn't work properly. media player classic couldn't play the main menu, sub menu work but not the buttons on it. windows media player can play the main menu but none of the buttons work either!! I've been working on it for a whole day. course work deadline is this Thu, so please give me some advice. Many thanks.

Icon doesn't work

Hi there, my name is Emma and I'm having some troubles with my iPod Touch 3G. When I click on the settings button it comes up with a gray screen with stripes and that is all. I have tried to sync my iPod and turn my iPod on and off multiple times but I still have no idea as to what I'm supposed to do. Any advice I'd appreciate. Thank you

Have you tried restoring the iPod in iTunes? For more help, see this Apple support document.

If restoring from your backup doesn't work, try deleting your older backups, so iTunes will download a fresh copy of your iPod's software.

Windows 8.1 safe mode password doesn't work

Using HP Pavilion 23 all in one model 23-b037c, 2012 windows 8.1.
During testing for internet connectivity was instructed to initiate msconfig and reboot in Safe Mode.
After rebooting the sign in security screen asked for my password. I entered my password that has worked for long time., but system said password incorrect reenter. tried numerous other passwords non accepted. changed MS account PW no good. Worked with HP support several hours for 2 days, trying all advanced trouble shooting solutions they recommended. Ran restore, backup and recovery etc. all failed. After one backup attempt error message said must get out of SAFE Mode.
How do you do this without correct password?
Ran Hard disk test passed OK. Now having to clean and remove all programs and personal files per HP Tech.. Will take several hours per HP sTech. Then will try again to run System recovery to original manufactures settings. Huge mess.
Big problem. Hope this works.
Q. Anyone ever have this problem?
How do you bypass password security screen to access Windows 8.1 without going through this extensive process? tried several password recovery options non worked.
Tried all Advanced troubleshooting options offered by HP Tech.

I have read your post on how the Windows 8.1 safe mode password does not work on your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To disable the built-in administrator account for Windows 8.1, I recommend following the steps in this document on How to Enable or Disable Built-in Elevated "Administrator" Account Windows 8 and 8.1. This should help to enter your password when booting into Safe Mode.

ITunes icon doesn't work

I've asked this question before, but didn't get anywhere, so I decided to ask again. My problem is that when I click on the iTunes icon in my dock, nothing happens. I might add the following: (1) The icon doesn't disappear when I move it to the desktop. (2) I can't move the icon to the trash, because it just won't go there. (3) When I click on 'DELETE' in the icon's menu, the icon disappears. (4) I have tried turning the computer off and on several times, but that didn't help. (5) My iTunes library is still around-somewhere--because I can still play songs; The problem is that I can't access the iTunes screen, so I have no list of songs to choose from.
In case I haven't been clear enough, I just want to be able to access the iTunes screen/window/page, so that I can see a list of the songs in my iTunes library and then be able to play the songs of my choice

I still can't drag the iTunes icon to my desktop and make it stick. I can hold it there, but I can't hold it and click on it at the same time. I might add that I just got off the phone with the "Apple Care Protection Plan" service. They had me drag an iTunes preference file to the trash, but I couldn't find the other iTunes preference file that they also wanted me to trash. They also ran me through the Apple Self-Repair remedy. Unfortunately, I still can't open iTunes. However, they gave me a case number, so I'll be getting back to them when I've rested up.
I finally got it fixed. I'm not sure exactly what was wrong, or even all of the steps that it took to fix it, but the man who did it for me (Apple Care Protection Plan) said that "iTunes had crashed". So, one of the corrective measures that I had take was to reinstall iTunes That wasn't all, but I don't remember everything I had to do. Anyway, my iTunes is back and that's the important thing. Thanks for your help.

Preview email share doesn't work after TB update

After I applied the TB 1.2 firmware update, the email share in Preview & Acrobat (11) stopped working. In Preview I only get the message & airdrop options. In Acrobat I get the error "The SendMail doesn't know how to talk to your default mail client. Please select a different mail application to use.". It may just be a coincidence it happend after the FW update, but I use the share option all the time & the FW update was the only system change made.

Doh, I've found the answer to my own question.
In Mail Preferences, under 'General', the first preference is "Defaut email reader" which should naturally be 'Mail 6.0'. Very bizarrely Parallels had changed this Mail Preference to some weird Windows program [Disk Clean up or something equally random] thus preventing me from emailing anything from any program. I discovered the answer on a Microsoft Word forum [how ironic is that] as the 'Share as email attachment' option wasn't working in Microsoft Word.
Has anyone else discovered Parallels to be messing with their Preferences?
