My process interrupts when I hibernate while running SSH, what to do?

Hi!
I have a low-end box (512 MB RAM, 1 processor, 15 GB hard disk, 2 TB / month bandwith, Arch Linux) , and I connect to it by SSH. Currently I use it for uploading / downloading stuff, and video encoding. My problem is when I transcode the video by FFmpeg - it takes long time, about 8 hours - and when I hibernate my home machine, the FFmpeg process aborts on the remote box and the resulting video file will be truncated. What can I do to avoid this annoyance?

When your client hibernates, the ssh connection times out and the remote's ssh client session is terminated. This sends a SIGHUP to all the child processes, to which the default reaction is termination. The 2 most common ways to deal with this are either the 'nohup' command (`man 1 nohup`) (which I personally dislike and try to avoid because its default behavior is to send stdout/err to 'nohup.out'), or running the commands in a tmux/screen session, which is something you should learn/know about either way. The moment you start using ssh is the moment you lose every right to argue against screen/tmux (even for local work they're perfectly useful tools)
My personal favourite is tmux.

[solved] resizing PuTTY window while running nano is messed up

If I'm using PuTTY (Windows SSH client / terminal emulator) and nano running on Arch Linux, window resizing is completely broken. On Debian it is fine however. I went to see if they used any patches, but they don't, none related to terminal resizing so there must be some other cause.
When you resize while running nano it can look like this in Arch:

Both have checkwinsize in bash enabled, but other than that I have really no idea how to fix it... It's VERY annoying! As it also leaves bash kinda confused after closing nano, until you resize it again.

I fixed it. Commenting out "export COLUMNS LINES" in /etc/profile did the trick.

URGENT:Error while running adadmin util

Hi All,
I have Vision database,version 11.5.10. I'm comiling/reloading the database objects
using "ADADMIN UTIL" in user applmgr.
After 4 hours of running,
In the terminal window it showed

But fortunately, nothing happened as said.
All the objects in the database are in compiled state, except 9 objects.
As i said earlier even after ignoring and going forth i haven't faced any issues as of now and the application is running fine.
i couldn't figure it out, i think error reported only for the 9 invalid objects.

HIBERNATE LIGHT RUNS CONTINUOUSLY ON LAPTOP?

I have a HP DV6 Core i5 Laptop, some days ago, its heatsink has gone bad, its in the care pack, so the service center engineer came and replaced the heatsink, after that it has affected with some overheating issues as well as it hdd activity light is not running and its hibernate light running continuously, what could be the problem? Is it with the motherboard? Please reply.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding. So, you are having a problem with the notebook overheating and then shutting down and you are concerned that it is the Motherboard.
Here is a document for Troubleshooting an Overheating and Auto Shutdown Issue which should help with the overheating issue.
For the Motherboard, I suggest Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8) to see if anything shows up as damaged or corrupted.

Unique Index Error while running the ETL process

I have Installed Oracle BI Applications 7.9.4 and Informatica PowerCenter 7.1.4. I have done all the configuration steps as specified in the Oracle BI Applications Installation and Configuration Guide. While running the ETL process from DAC for Execution Plan 'Human Resources Oracle 11.5.10' some tasks going to status Failed.
When I checked the log files for these tasks, I found the following error

I found some duplicate rows in the table W_PAYROLL_F_ASSG_TMP with the combination of the columns on which it is trying to create INDEX. Can anyone give me information for the following.
1. Why it is trying to create the unique index on the combination of columns which may not be unique.
2. Is it a problem with the data in the source database (means becoz of duplicate rows in the source system).
How we need to fix this error. Do we need to delete the duplicate rows from the table in the data warehouse manually and re-run the ETL process or is there any other way to fix the problem.

This query will identify the duplicate in the Warehouse table preventing the Index from being built:
select count(*), integration_id, src_eff_from_dt from w_employee_ds group by integration_id, src_eff_from_dt having count(*)>1;
To get the ETL to finish issue this delete to the W_EMPLOYEE_DS table:
delete from w_employee_ds where integration_id = '2' and src_eff_from_dt ='04-JAN-91';
To fix it so this does not happen again on another load you need to find the record in the Vision DB, it is in the PER_ALL_PEOPLE_F table. I have a Vision source and this worked:

RFC ERROR while running BI Process Chain

I'm recieving the following error while running certain Process Chains in BI.
RFC error: FAILED
RFC Message: FAILED
The system log in BI shows the following.
Communication error, CPIC return code 017, SAP return code 672
672 Logon to Netweaver failed
Other process chains work correctly via CPS.
Any Ideas?

i also used to get error for a program executed through process chain but when it is executed in se38 it used to work... that is because my program try to access a application server folder and reads the file from there... the authorisation to this is not proper through process chain ..... once authorisation to the folder was given properly .. i am able to run...
Such things can happen in your case also... Try to analyse the dump in st22.... what happened ...

Costing problem while running Process order

Hi,
This is a problem relating to costing of HALB material.. While doing process order for a fert material (BOM of FERT material contains a HALB and two ROH materials) a window occurs while saving ' Error when calculating costs, see log'. Why is this happening? I have checked the BOM , all components are subjected to cost relevancy (X). For HALB material no values are manually maintained in planned price 1,2,3 fields in Costing 2 view of material master. Do we have to manually maintain or will it be taken from the ROH materials in HALB BOM. For ROH materials values are comin in planned price 1,2,3 fields in Costing 2 view . If this has to be done what is the configuration. The ultimate issue is while running process order for FERT material no costing is happening for HALB material.Pls share your suggestions. Hi,
when you have raw semifinish and finish material as in sequence then first order of semifinish has to be created and it will capture raw material cost and other expences if incurred after confirmation of semifinish material you will be able to create a finish material production order b' cause that semi- finish material yo have to consume for finsh order.
if at all first sfg order has updated the price of sfg (after settlement of order) then it will take correct price for finish material
reward points if you find it useful.

Process runs faster when executed independently, but runs slower when a parallel big process is running

Hi,
The issue is, a process, say "A" is running fine on certain days. On some days there are additional processes running on the server. When these additional processes are running, "Process A" suffers performance issue.
Interesting point is that, these additional processes were running since long time. But, earlier "Process A" was running fine even when these additional process were running. Suddenly from past 2 or 3 weeks there is performance issue in "Process
A", when these additional process run.
Note: Nothing has been modified for the process A.
Process A is an SQL job which has SSIS Package and stored proc in different steps
When multiple parallel processes are running, SSIS Package step suffers around 40% increase in execution time, where as stored procs have only 15-20% increase in execution time
When Process A is executed while no other big processes are running, it's execution time is fine. From past few days, issue is only when, some other big parallel processes are running.
Currently below is my analysis:
Since Process A is running fine when it is executed independently, I assume there is no issue in this process.
Since issue occurs when some other big process is running, when Process A is running, I believe it is DiskIO issue. Will the issue be resolved if RAM size is increased?
Is there any way to check if RAM is being fully utilized by the server
Is there any other possibility why there is a sudden dip in performance when parallel processes are running.
Is there any possibility of having issues in additional processes. Incase if it has some issues, does it impact "Process A"
Please let me know if you need any further information. Infact I am not able to diagnose what is the actual root cause for the performance issue in "Process A" as nothing has been modified.
Also it would be very much helpful, if I get any idea on different ways in reaching the actual root cause of this performance issue.
NOTE: This is a data warehouse

When a query has a parallel plan, it will in general try to grab all cores up to the maxdop setting, but then it often uses them inefficiently.
But in that case, there are better odds for the queries not battling on resources with each other!
What Josh alludes is to the fact that SQL Server needs to partition the data, so that different partitions are processed on different cores. This partitioning is based on statistics, and the statistics may be out of date or not accurate enough. This may
result in that the data is not partitioned proportionally, and some threads gets very little data to work with. Thus, these CPUs are still idle, so there may still be room for the two processes to run at full speed. (That is, full speed with the given plan,
which is not the full speed, had the partitioning been accurate.)
I mention this because you asked about parallelism, and many systems leave maxdop at its default setting of 0 (which means "go ahead and grab everything!") even though Microsoft recommends you set it to a different number depending on this and
that.
Since this is a data warehouse, Raksha should not tamper with "max degrees of parallelism", I think.

Error while running the process chain

Hi, I am getting following error while running the process chain.
"Lock NOT set for: Deleting the data completely from a data target"

hi,
This is due to a lock on the objects which is being used by ur load.
Even if master data used by this would be in a lock by an attribute change run. wait till that attribute change run finishes and then repeat.
If this target itself is locked by someother process like rollup , compression , this error would appear. In this case also repeat the step after those locking process finish.
some general locks during loading:
Sometimes parallel processing in DTP might lead to this, its better set the DTP and infopackage in serial processing. In this case change the settings and then repeat the process.
There is a specific case in which the Serial DTP gets locked by itself, in this case repeat it untill it succeeds.
You can identify the above scenario as below. This is applicable only if the DTPs processing mode is serial.
if u see in SM 37 this load would have three DTP processes running.
it should have only two.
In this case cancel the process and repeat it untill u get it right.

Hi Experts , I am currently facing problems while running restricted version copy in sap apo .. The log says 0 location products copied and that the process has timed out. the error message is " /SAPAPO/MVM_INT_SVC_CO_VER_LCW reported exception in task DP00014 " , then ending in time limit exceeded. could anyone explain why this happens. please note even if the log says 0 location products copied , in reality they have have been partially copied.

I am using javax.servlet.context.tempdir to store my files in that servletcontext temporary directory. But i dont know how to give hyperlink
of the modified files to the user for them to download the modified files.
What i am using to get the tempdir i will paste

And i want to create unique directory for each request made to the servlet , so file names dont clash.
one another thing is that i want my servlet to be executed by my <form action> only, I dont want the user to simply type url and trigger the servlet

Due to this others are get affected..
