My selection tool don't work normally !

My selection tool won't select swatch colours and I can’t move easily text boxes.
I "trash" my InDesign preferences. I follow Peter Spier’s advice. I put the line in my terminal : rm /Users/petitspaspourlhomme/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version 8.0/fr_FR/*
But it’s change nothing !
What can I do ?

Direct Selection Tool don't works cause points dissapear in shapes

Good evening,
I'm using Photoshop CC under a Macbook Pro Retina Display (15 inches), I've noticed that since lasts updates, when I use the direct selection tool for chaning a shape trace the points that should appear for selecting each anchor dissapears, and there's no way to get them back (sometimes by closing the program and restarting fixes this issue).
The tool is working because when I clic somewhere over a shape it gets highlighted on layers panel, but I can't see the points and so, can't modify the shape.
Does this belongs to any option? (I know in Illustrator there's an option to see or hide the points, but don't know if in Photoshop goes the same way or not) or it's a bug from the last updates? (I would say that it didn't happen at the beggining). But as I use a lot shorcuts, sometimes I can make a misstake and press cmd + wrong key, so I think it could be the reason for this... but I'm not quite sure.

I've seen that if I hide the "extras" (cmd + H) it hides the guides but also the points from shapes (that shouldn't be this way, right?) and even I can see them when I turn them on, I can't pick just one as I did in CS6 by using direct selection tool and pressing on just one point (at the beggining all of them are highlighted cause you've got selected the whole shape layer, but when you press one, it should get this highlighted and turn off the rest of them), and the only way to get just one point is to pan with the cursor and make a selection, passing over the points you want to highlight, but this is annoying cause if you've got any other shape below, it will select it as well.

1000x this. My designs are 100% vector shapes, so if Adobe have changed this core behavior intentionally, they’ve just made my life a lot more difficult.
We should be able to use the Direct Selection Tool to select a shape layer (similar to how the Move Tool has done) by clicking on any visible pixel. But then we should be able to freely drag-select points on that shape (starting from any neutral area) without selecting other shape layers. This is how it’s worked since before I can remember.
Here’s why the two new selection modes don’t work:
Active Layers - I can no longer freely select any visible shape. Instead I’m forced to make a time-consuming roundabout to the layer palette, where I have to squint to find my shape layer, and activate it manually before continuing. (Hitting “V” to select a layer, then “A” to get back to the D.S. Tool is nearly as cumbersome. Plus, I leave off the Move Tool's auto-select mode.)
All Layers - Treats all my shapes as if they’re on one layer. Overlapping shapes are therefore impossible to work with -- mainly drag-selecting and deselecting points -- in situ.
We either need a “legacy” setting, or some way to constrain selection on drag, via a key modifier or something. This “all or nothing" thing doesn’t work for me... and apparently for others. Why would they change such a thing?
Or maybe there’s something I’m missing. Please let that be the case!

Select tool does not work

Select tool has quit working. Click on it and the snap shot tool appears. All other tools work fine. Uninstalled and reinstalled reader but problem remains.

The Selext Tool works only on actual text; on a scanned document when it has been treated with OCR.

Bridge updated unexpectedly, now Photoshop Tools don't work

Hi, all;
I have Web Premium CS 5.5, which I am quite happy with, but I also have a Cloud subscription so that I can use CS products on my laptop (my management decided it was easier to do that than dig up the physical media when my laptop was purchased).
Recently, I needed InDesign (not part of Web Premium) and installed it from my Cloud subscription. Now, when I select Browse folder with Adobe Bridge, it brings up the CS6 version, not the CS5.5 version. I wouldn't mind much, but the PhotoShop tools menu item doesn't appear (this is about 50% of what I do with Bridge). I can manually open the CS 5.5 version, but of course this is not as convenient as the right-click option, plus the CS 5.5 version is no longer stable (it crashes a lot).
How do I either get the PhotoShop Tools menu to work in Bridge? Alternatively, how can I get the right-click menu to point to my unstable version of 5.5? I can live with the instability if I can keep it open long enough to at least do what I need to do.

if PhotoShop tools can't be made to work properly from Bridge CS6, launching CS 5.1 from the right-click menu would be an alternate fix that would be acceptable.
Bridge works version specific, so CS6 is not easy to use with CS5.5 due to the start up scripts used for the menu Tools. Indesign, Illustrator and I believe also Premiere Pro are the other applications capable of working with Bridge and when only installing one of these apps from the Creative Cloud they also install Bridge CS6 form the Creative Cloud.
All settings for some reason auto select the newest version, on a Mac for example the finder always used to set itself to the latest installed Photoshop version as default application to pen with, I recall this was hard to avoid, maybe it is still the issue.
However you still have the CS5.5 installed that will offer the wished behavior.
You could try to start Bridge CS5.5 manual and the restart Photoshop holding down shiftoptionCommand (Mac, don't know the Windows equivalent) to reset its preferences and force them to the open CS5.5.
But personally I would not use the Browse in Bridge command in PS itself. I always have both Bridge and PS active and running from log in and never use the Browse in Bridge command.
Using this command does need to open Bridge or auto switches to the latest version, Having Bridge already up and running saves time in caching and with a work space customized with a folder panel in view is much easier to navigate
And of course, there is no objection to download also PSCS6 from the CC, I really don't agree with earlier versions being better. Only Bridge CS3 was a very bad version, yet it was in its way better then the first version of Bridge that appeared in CS2. CS3 had much more options but was very unstable (not unusable if you dumped the cache and prefs every few weeks).
The difference between Bridge CS5.5 and CS6 is a different Cache structure. It claims to be again faster and more stable but some Windows users on this forum sadly enough can't confirm this due to slow criteria building.
Personally I experience CS6 faster and better then CS5

Selection tool has stopped working...

I was making some edits on my project and when I placed a PNG that I had just edited, my selection tool stopped working. I can select a graphic, but as soon as I try to move it around on the page, nothing happens. As we all know, the selection tool is very important, so any help or advice that someone can give would be greatly appreciated. I can keep working by using the free transform tool, but I just want to know how to get the selection tool back to it's original state. Thank you in advance, I am very grateful for your prompt response.
I will try doing a reboot and see if that helps at all. Will update this thread with my latest impressions.

It seems your preferences might be corrupted and need resetting.

Quick Selection Tool doesn't work

This has probably been addressed, but can't seem to find it. It's driving me nuts.
In Elements 6.0, I have found the Quick Selection Tool quite useful. However, I often find that it does not work; not creating an outlined selection.
Have others found this? Do I have some setting incorrect? Is this an Adobe bug? I have reverted to all default settings, but no dice.

Ya, I can't make it work. I've watched a million videos online with people that seem to think it's amazing, but I have spent HOURS trying to cut out a simple image that would have taken me ten seconds on my ancient CS2. After owning this new product for two months I am still opening up my old version of Photoshop to extract images. Every time I start outlining something, the Quick Selection Tool goes all over the place, and when I do finally get it somewhat close to outlining what I want, I can't figure out how to save what I want. Lame.

I can't get the quick selection tool to work in CS5 it does in CS4 does anyone have an answer for this?

I can capture the image in CS4 and wallah the back ground is gone...here in CS5 I have to had draw it (which I did just rapidly for this example) then I go to refine edge get the black screen with white outlines...or using the background screen image I just get the blank background with a light outline of the image ...????

Choose the Quick Selection tool. Then click on the parts of your photo outside of the frame. Keep clicking until you have everything you want selected. Don’t worry if you make a mistake and select too much. Hold down the alt key and you can click to subtract.

Color selection tool has stopped working [was: need help with indesign cs6]

I am working in InDesign cs6 and my color selection tool stopped working.

Do I reply here? I have been creating a newspaper in InDesign cs6 and the color selection box won't work any longer. It used to work just fine, but now it won't let me access it.
Someone in tech support last night before they went away, was directing me to: Go to Folder from my desktop, and then to Preferences, then to ~/Library/, then to InDesign version 8.0 and en US. Then we lost contact and I didn't know what to do next, so I still have the problem.

Just installed InDesign CS6 and the Selection tool will not re-activate after another tool is checked. Has anyone experienced this and found the problem?

Yes, I know that you need to click on the Selection tool to activate it. That's the problem. Nothing happens when I click on it or hit ESC. When the program launches, the Selection tool is highlighted, but as soon as I select another tool, like "Type tool" or "Rectangle tool", when I click on Selection or Direct Selection tool, it will not activate. This means I cannot do anything. The Application Bar actions do not work because I cannot select them. I uninstalled the product and reinstalled it and the issue is the same. Could there be some Preference that is causing a problem?

Spot healing, lasso, and the move tool don't work

These tools don't do anything. I can find them and select but nothing happens.

Selecting the Tools should not cause anything much to happen yet (apart from the cursor icon and the Options Bar reflecting the Tool selected).
What exactly do you do for example with the Lasso Tool?
Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?

Elements 9 tools don't work

I noticed another post. Maybe it's not functioning well because I don't have enough ram on this laptop . . .
I'm so frustrated with Elements 9, I'm considering asking for a refund. Can't get many of the tools to even function. Maybe it's because the layer is locked, but nothing seems to unlock it. Can you tell me how to unlock it, and also how to get tools to function? I'd be SO grateful for your help.
It's like the program was created by a foreinger who can't figure out how to make things user-friendly. For example, I click on Brush tool - then control, click to choose the tool shape. I click option click to get the color. This works with clone tool. Does not work with most other tools! They come up with a circle and a line thru them. How do I get them to function?!
Wishing they included a manual. For something of this difficulty, a manual is really needed. I tried to access one online, but the help tap isn't helpful.

After upgrading my Aperture software, the adjustment tools don't work on most my projects. only a few. what happened?

Help... After upgrading, only SOME of my libraries allow the adjustments tools to work. What do I do to regain access that allows me to edit my photos?

I recall that from Aperture 2 to 3 the RAW decoder was updated and some of the adjustments required you to manually reprocess the RAW file using the new decoder. I don't remember the exact button but it appears on top with the RAW decode brick and says something like reprocess RAW. Once you do this, the new adjustments will work.
This only would matter if you are using RAW files.
