My situation, can it be worse?

- I bought a 8520 in December
- device was broken in January
- I called the service but they dint answer. I was in the 25th queue and stayed same after 10 minutes of waiting on the line. (service is in Istanbul, turkey and it is called teleservice)www.teleservice.com.tr 
- I found the place and transported the device to the service on my own on 17.january
- the warning statement occurred on 19th January on the website that my device will be changed with a new one
- I  am waiting since than but still same
- I am trying to call the service but they don't answer(queue between 17-20)
- I am trying to reach other representative offices of the service and they don't answer either.
- there are about 250 complaints about the same problem in the famous complaint database of my country. People say they have been waiting for about 3 months
- When I call the RIM(blackberry) office in Istanbul Turkey, that number is not working either
- I filled the complaint form of the service and want them inform me about my legal waiting time. They said they don't know and they can not inform me about this
so any idea what to do next? 
and do you think that could blackberry and it approved service do any worse?

  • RAID-5 over RAID-1, with encryption

    I'm planning to restructure my fileserver.  It has (well, will have) 8 hard drives for data, each 1.5 TB in size.  I want to create 4 mirrored pairs, and then place each pair in a RAID-5 array, for a total usable space of 4.5 TB.  I want to place encryption on top of it, with dm-crypt/LUKS, with either ext4 or xfs on top of that (_probably_ ext4, but it's easy to change that after I have the block devices set up).
    I guess my questions are mostly about performance and best practices.
    For reference, the server has 6 GB RAM (although I can easily buy more if needed), and a first-gen i3 (which, sadly, does not have hardware AES support).  The hard drives are all running off the motherboard's SATA ports, but I can buy (and probably will buy at some point) a good JBOD controller.
    I should also say that the server will be used for (a) keeping differential backups of my other computers (probably only 500-750 GB in backup files), (b) streaming music / HD video, (c) torrenting.  So the usage is really a fix of access patterns, but the files should generally be larger-than-average (most files will probably be over 10 MB), and there will probably be many files open at once.
    1)  What kind of chunk size should I use?  I assume using equal chunk sizes for the mirrors and the RAID-5 array would be good.  I was thinking 256 KB (which would yield a 768 KB block size in the FS), but that may be a bit big.
    2)  I hear it's best to put the encryption between the filesystem and the top-level block device (which is the RAID-5 array in this case).  The other feasible option is placing it directly on the drives (well, on the drives' partitions).  Is this true?
    3)  An alternative configuration would be to mirror two RAID-5 arrays together, but partial rebuilds would take longer and put more stress on the drives.  It would be nice to get some confirmation that I'm right in my reasoning here, and that RAID-5 over RAID-1 would be better than RAID-1 over RAID-5.
    Any other advice with such a setup is welcome.

    (Note:  This was brought about due to the failure of a few hard drives in my fileserver.  To that end, I am unable to really test anything with all the disks until I get them back from the RMA.  I can still play around with a few disks for now, though.)

    Yeah, someone linked me to that too.  I looked through their reasoning (well, about 3-4 of the links on that site) and I don't think it really pertains to me, because:
    During a full rebuild (of the overarching RAID-5 array), one (or even up to three) more hard drive failures will not cause issues.
    RAID-6 provided ample performance for me, so I assume RAID-5 will be the same (if not better).
    Adding more hard drives would entail (a) a new controller, (b) a new case (probably a server chassis, to handle 10+ hard drives), and possibly (c) a new PSU.  So it's actually not at all cheap for me to buy them.
    The reason I'm thinking of RAID-15 and not RAID-51 is because if 1 drive fails, the rebuild only reads from one drive (to restore that mirror).  If 1 drive fails in RAID-51, then the rebuild must read from the other 3 drives.  The situation can easily get worse with 2 failures, since this would cause reading from probably 2 but at most 3 drives in RAID-15, but would cause reading from all 6 with RAID-51.  Basically, recovering from a failure would take about 3 times as long, which means about 3 times the stress on the remaining drives while the array is more vulnerable.

  • Publishing error - unable to publish iWeb 08 site

    After re-making my 30 page site using iWeb 08 due to it destroying my iWeb 07 Domain file - I have tried repeatedly to publish the new site without success. Usually I wait 1.5 hrs while the progress bar goes slowly around, then I invariably get a message saying there ways an "error connecting to the server or network error". It takes 1.5 hrs to tell me this?
    However I clearly am connected to the .Mac server because I get the message earlier on stating that "publishing will continue in the background". Somehow the .Mac server doesn't accept the Domain file. I have published the Domain to a folder on my desktop and the site works fine on the browser when I launch it using the index html file.
    I have sent several iWeb feedback messages concerning this problem so hopefully the boffins will fix it. I have no intention of renewing my .Mac subscription if the Domain file can't actually be published.
    If anyone out there is experiencing the same problem please let me know.

    It's hit or miss with me. My web site is about 30 pages, and about every 4th or 5th time I publish, I get either a "Publish Error. An unknown error occurred." or something about a locked file, try again later. It usually is fixed by choosing to Publish All to .Mac and enduring the 30 minutes or so it takes to process. This last time, however, it got done with the upload (about 100MB) and looked fine. Next time I tried to update one page: bang.
    I'm publishing a blog so the situation can only get worse as pages accumulate.
    There is clearly something wrong and clearly somebody is grasping at straws trying to fix it. Until the engineers at Apple figure out what the problem is and releases a definitive patch, I think we're out of luck.

  • OSX 10.8.2 made battery life on macbook pro early 2010 even worse

    After upgrading to mountain lion, like everyone else I noticed that my battery took a hit but from what I could tell I lost about an hour's worth of time at the most when I used to almost 6 - 7 hours. Now that I have upgraded to 10.8.2 my battery life is much, much worse. I just charged my macbook to 99% and then unplugged it. I have the screen at half brightness and the batter monitor is telling me that I have 2 hours 30 min of life and I can see the % dripping away even in the short time that I am looking at the monitor.
    I can't even put the lid down on my macbook at night and leave it that way till the following morning as the battery drains completely. In the past it would stay in this dormant state for days even.
    I thought 10.8.2 was meant to resolve the situation, not make it worse. Is there anything at all that I can do apart from shutting down all my apps all the time?

    I'm ashamed to say "No" I hadn't tried any such basics!  I have now, and with some sucess.  After a SMC reset I have new figures...

    Now that looks much better.  I can't say with 100% certanty that it was the SMC reset that resolved the issue as I did discover process that was running and chewing up huge amounts of CPU.  The KiesViaWiFiAgent application was responsable.  I of course killed this off and the CPU also resumed normal operation.  I have also deleted the app as I never want to see it running again.

  • Creative cloud all cc 2014 can't be updated on iMac.....

    It's actually a disaster....I bought the cc personal license and ran for almost a year, it was running fine until recently I just couldn't update all cc 2014 version with my iMac.
    I thought it may works if I remove all the download applications and reinstall them...
    But, well, it was worse then. After remove all applications, I found, first, I don't know where to download "adobe application management" application. It controls everything!! Its link was in my account before but it's gone, and just left all other applications download links which still leads to this  "adobe application management" application to download them.(WTH?!)
    When I finally googled, downloaded and ran it .....WTH again! It showed all those applications I'd removed is either already updated or waiting for update... But not showed "install" as I ran it first time a year ago.
    And, I still couldn't update cc 2014 version with my iMac.
    Except knowing the solutions of my crazy situation, can I give a suggestion to Adobe? Especially to your website?
    Pls know that UX is important, try to make your user experience more smoothly. Ask someone to use your website in every possible situation before change it , and pls don't show us so many raw information with thousands of words in Q & A. You know whoever loves Adobe products is almost (and just)  an image animal.

    Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future.     Back up all data.

  • Can I create a second iPhoto library?

    I've had a series of serious problems with my iPhoto library.
    I've now reached the stage where I want to archive the corrupt library (but still be able to access it) and start a new library.
    1) Is it possible to start a new library in iPhoto?
    2) Is it likely that if I start a "new" library it will suffer the same corruption problems as my old one?
    For info, the corrupt version frequently crashes;  loses faces data; and doesn't allow new faces to be added.
    I also use Aperture but iPhoto is my primary application.

    Apple's advice may well be good - but I'm not sure that's "Apple's Advice" so much as one employee. And frankly, on here we see reports of advice from Apple Store employees that is inaccurate ("iPhoto is only good for 25k photos, you can't use Photoshop and iPhoto, and others I have seen over the years).
    Don't you see that  these 15k photos will be in an unsafe environment? You really want to continue with that?

    1. Make a Back up.
    That means what ever you do you can still return to the current status quo. As long as you have a back up of the current - mucked-up - library, it can't get worse.
    So the worst that can happen is nothing changes. The Best that can happen is it gets fixed.
    Library Manager is not a plug-in and does not complicate how iPhoto works. It simplifies working with multiple libraries for a start.
    And remember what exactly it does:
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. 
    So, make a back up - that's one level of protection, and then Library Manager is non-destructive so that's double the protection.
    Finally: search the forum. It is no exaggeration to say that Library Manager is recommended on here 50+ times every week for these kinds of problems. See how many folks find themselves worse off after using it.
    After that:
    The one thing you really cannot do is leave the photos in the damaged library. It is really, really unwise. If you don't want to use Library manager, then create a new Library
    Recover the Masters from the damaged one
    Import them to the new Library.
    To create a new Library:
    Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

  • IPhone 4s, still on iOS 6, is slow, can't connect to the internet, and overheats a lot,

    I've have my iPhone 4s for about a year now, and up until when the iOS 7 update was released, I never had any problems with it.  I still haven't updated my phone, though. I prefer the interface that comes with iOS 6, and in my opinion it's easier to use. But, since the new software updates have come out, my phone has been unable to connect to local internet servers (when it does, the internet doesn't work) and it has run slower, even freezing in the middle of use of apps such as Snapchat and Instagram. Now, I'm faced with another problem altogether (because I could deal with slight delays and no internet before.)
    Now my phone overheats a lot. It's really concerning how often it happens. Before, it would only overheat if I used it for multiple hours on end, which was rare. Now, it overheats while charging, if I used any app with a camera, or even just while sitting there. I don't understand what's happening.
    I do wonder, is all of this because I haven't updated to iOS 7? Or do I just need to replace my phone?
    I'd prefer not updating, but if my phone would run more efficiently on iOS 7, I will.
    I've heard that the update caused quite a bit of trouble for 4s users when they updated the first time, and I'm concerned that if my phone experiences that trouble, the situation will only get worse.
    So should I update? Is the problem due to the fact that I haven't updated? Or is it something else entirely?

    Any update will cause problems for a few users. And those users will rush here and post "the sky is falling" stories about their experience. The 99.99% of people who have no problems after an update won't bother to post here; indeed, most of them don't even know ASC exists. FWIW, I had no problems with iOS 7 on my 4S. Your problem is most likely not related to iOS 6, but you should probably update anyway.     In fairness to my fellow consumers, I'm compelled to share my experience so they can determine for themselves whether a certified pre-owned phone from Verizon is a good purchase. In my experience so far, it is not.  I'm hoping that my situation can be resolved amicably, but I'm losing hope.
    I purchased my certified pre-owned phone directly from VerizonWireless in July. In August, I determined the phone was defective. I called Verizon's technical support, and they confirmed the phone was defective, and that it would be an easy thing to fix. I could simply go to a Verizon store directly, and they would repair or replace the phone.
    But this was not the case. The Verizon Wireless stores are actually franchises. My local stores, and a VerizonWireless customer service representative got in touch with all of them, will not exchange a device unless the parent company sends them a new phone first, because otherwise they'd have to absorb the cost. The customer service line refused to send a new phone, arguing it was the local franchisee who should pay to replace the phone.
    In short, after six hours of phone calls, Naomi from Customer Care promised to give me a full refund and a free months service because I had been treated so poorly, and that this refund would take three to five business days to effectuate. Six business days later, I still had no refund. I called again, and over another four hours of calls, I learned that Naomi never submitted the paperwork in the first place, and that I was no further than I was before.
    In short, Verizon promised to replace any defective pre-owned phones that they sold within 90 days of purchase. I purchased my phone 30 days ago and it is defective, but Verizon has in effect refused to honor the warranty. Their internal processes are so confused that, although they agree there is a warranty, they cannot agree on who internally is obligated to honor it.
    I really hope this situation can be resolved amicably. I would love to discuss this further with a Verizon Wireless supervisor or customer care manager privately if possible. I want this be resolved quickly and easily.

    I sincerely hope that is true. As I've said before, it seems like it should be a very simple transaction--there's no external damage or water damage whatsover. The problem is that the GPS simply doesn't work, and it doesn't lock on to cell towers properly. I couldn't cause that kind of malfunction if I tried, and tech support has already identified those problems to be a manufacturing defects. The only question is what will Verizon do about it.
    I have a 90 day warranty. It's printed on the box, and is stipulated on Verizon's website. But as I mentioned before there seems to be internal confusion as to what that process looks like exactly for a certified pre-owned phone. So far, after 12+ hours of phone calls, no individual team or department within Verizon claims it has the authority to effect a return for these phones.
    I would love nothing more to report success. But so far, I've been working with Verizon support for two weeks, and am no further than when I started. I messaged Trevor immediately, but haven't heard back from him yet (but that may be because of labor day weekend.)
    Please, please, please - just tell me what I have to do or what I have to show in order to get Verizon to replace the defective phone it sold me. I'm at a loss as to what I should do next.

  • How can you definitively tell if your GPS chipset is bad?

    I purchased a "certified pre-owned" iPhone 5 about a month ago and the GPS is horribly off without Wifi. This makes it neigh impossible to use the phone as a GPS while driving, trying to track my run, etc., which are all major features of having an iPhone. If I'm at home, turn off the wifi, and let it sit for ten minutes to acquire a signal, it does no better. In short, without wifi, it doesn't work. How can I be sure my GPS chipset is not defective?

  • Why can't I open any pdf files with any version of Adobe Reader after I upgraded?

    Upgraded Adobe Reader not too long ago and after then it stopped opening pdf files. I had an old version of Adobe Acrobat and that opened the file no problem. I tried to downgrade Adobe Reader, but that didn't fix the problem.
    Just tried to open Adobe Reader by itself without any files and it still crashed.
    FYI – I’m using Windows 7 (Microsoft 2013)

    It's not a good idea to have both Acrobat and Reader unless they're both of the same version number (like X or XI). Such a situation can cause all kinds of conflicts and crashes, as you've seen. Also, if you have an old version of Acrobat it's might not be compatible with your OS any more.

  • How to avoid the form's message situation

    i am using Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.24.1 (Production).
    i have base table block. So at the time of saving some process should happen, based on selected record.
    so i have written the procedure in key-commit trigger. But my problem is when user edit the data and close the form then the message pops up as usual(do you want..) if i give yes then the procedure is not firing.
    I got a feed back that that message(do you want to save the changes) situation itself i should avoid. How can i avoide that message situation.
    Forcing the user to save in pre-commit trigger is one option but my question is this situation can be avoided?
    Is this can be done?

    but one more question i want ask. The process what i am doing should happen only when user saves the record. If i write it in the block level trigger if user doesnot save the recod and exists then also my process will fire?No.

How Can I sort both fields at the same time, if I sort Promotion date field in ascending order, the product quanitity has to sort respectively?
    Any one can help in this please , any links are examples etc..

    I have tried with this function SortbyKey, it always throuing exception. That's the reason I came to you guys. Please have a look following mapping

    the above D02_ZA tag sometimes comes more than one QD with different dates. Same dates has to go under one tag with respective quantities!! This is the situation, can any solve this please?
    The target tag "ProductDemandInfluencingEventNotification" will generate based on number of promotions on particular date. Ex: if one vendor has 'n' number products promotions on 3 different dates, 3 "ProductDemandinfluenceevennotifications" has to generate, that three promotion dates and quantities has to respectively.
    That ZA02 (Qty) value has to go Quantity target field.
