My system preferences is not responding when I go to change my background photo

Last night I had imported a few new photos into my iphoto and went to go change my background to one of them but now everytime I try to change it I open up the system preferences > desktop & screensaver, and then it just says loading imagings and the pinwheel goes but nothing ever responds and I always have to  force quit the program. I only have about 450 photos in my iphoto and I just don't know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

I have problem with system preference is not responding

Is it just one System Preference, if so, which?
Try this: in Finder, select Go > Go to Folder...
copy (triple-click) and paste the following
    ~/Library/Preferences/
so that it looks like this
    ... and click Go.
In the window that opens, locate the following and drag it to the Desktop
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Restart your Mac.
    Fixed?
If so, good, but you will need to recreate your system preferences all over again since there was something amiss with the last configuration.
If not, drag the file on the Desktop back to where it came and you're no worse off than when you began.

  • My system preferences is not responding, my system preferences is not responding

My system preferences has locked up. It has nothing to do with iphoto like some questions have been corrected by moving that folder. Every preference locks up. From the SP window any preference I click on will not respond. I don't care about my background picture. I have tried deleting the plist in the system folder and that didn't work either. Any suggestions.  Thanks

I'm having the same problem.  iPhoto starts fine, displays pictures fine, but when I select "iPhoto", "Preferences", iPhoto locks up with the pinwheel turning.  I end up doing a force quit.  I've backed up my computer and tried some rebuilding of my library and no fix.
Anyone else having the same problem?
The only thing I can think of is that my iPhoto library is stored on an external HD.  But that shouldn't matter.

  • System preferences is not responding

and shows the color wheel on desktop/screen saver tab

    avesole,
i found the answer on another forum and this worked perfectly for me.
I was getting exactly the same problem and so were a lot of other people. This is how to fix it - and it worked for me along with others: 1) Apple have hidden the Library folder by default in Lion. To permaently unhide it, open the Terminal utility and run the following command: chflags nohidden ~/Library After running this command the Library should become immediately available, without the need to reboot the system or log out and log back in. 2) Open Finder and drill down to MacPro HD/Users/Your Username/Library/Preferences and then send the following file to the trash: com.apple.desktop.plist 3) Reboot your mac (this may not be needed but I prefered it this way) after reboot should work for you :-) The com.apple.desktop.plist gets recreated in Finder so if you are satisfied it has work, you can now delete this file from the trash.
once you have done this re-open the system preferences and go to your desktop/screensaver screen and it should work fine. (i didn't have to reboot but did it anyway after making the changes i wanted to my desktop picture) i found that a certain picture file that i was trying to set as my desktop was causing the preferences to freeze but i don't know how to fix that yet...still working on a solution
    hope this helps....

  • My system preferences is not responding

    what do I do?

First try force quitting, assuming this problem is on your computer. Click on the Apple logo in the menu bar and select Force Quit.. then select System Preferences from the menu.
If that doesn't work then try rebooting your computer.
If that still doesn't work then delete the property list file and restart.
    1. Select Finder in the Dock. Choose 'Go' from the menubar at the top, hold down the 'option' key and choose 'Library'.
    2. In Library, navigate to /Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
(make sure you get the right file, there's a lot of files in there with similar looking names)
    3. Drag it to the Trash
    4. Restart.

  • How can i resolve my app like system preference is not responding and it's in freeze mode?

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk.
    If it still isn't working...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.

Tried that, did 'repair disk permissions and it said all was ok. But when I pressed the 'Verify permissions' button it came out with an error message. Said that there was an error upon exiting, said the hard drive was damaged. Do you think that is connected to 'system preferences' not opening. As I said the 'system now has a 'circle with a slash' symbolon top of it.

  • Lots of programs does not respond, when opened

Lots of programs does not respond, when they are opened, Apple store, Mail, Photo Booth and VideoConverterPro and some moor.
To close, I have to click on finder first. What to do ?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Adobe Elements 9 not responding when saving changes

Adobe Elements 9 says not responding when I save image changes. I does eventually save the image changes but takes awhile. Is this normal? My computer is rinning Windows 7 and I have 8GB of ram so I don't think that ram memory is the problem. Thanks

In other versions of photoshop elements, you don't get the not responding
thing at the top of the screen when saving png files, but it still takes a noticeable
amount of time to save png's in other versions of photoshop elements and the full
    photoshop version.
I haven't been able to find it yet, but there is a post somewhere in the photoshop forums
where an adobe photoshop engineer explained why png's take longer to save than most
other file formats, but ssprengel said something about the compression of png's which
sounds like the gist of the post.
There have been more than a few complaints about the not responding messages in pse 9
on windows machines for various operations, but as far as saving images, the not responding
message doesn't seem to hinder saving files, but it is very annoying.
