My wife and I share a computer, each with our own account. She gets an urgent message from Firefox to install an update and I don't. Is this spam?

iMac running Mavericks, Firefox 31.0. She gets these type of messages periodically and I don't. However, if I go to Firefox>About Firefox I get an automatic update. This causes a lot of confusion on her part, and mine as well. It appears to be spam but then it's not.

hello donRobo705, this might be something that is caused by rogue addons. in her account please go to the menu > add-ons > extensions and remove any entries that didn't get installed intentionally or where you don't know which purpose they serve or try to [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] and see if this can address the issue...

  • Everytime I log onto my computer I get an urgent message from FireFox. Details below.

Everyday for 3 days now when I log on my computer I get a message that says: "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for firefox as soon as possible."
It then says "View more information about this update" It will not allow me to view more information(clicking on underlined blue colored line) and I've tried to apply the update and it will not load. The green line just goes back and forth until I finally just shut the loading page down. When I do try to load it by hitting the "Next" button it says connecting to something like trying to connect to upload program now.
Now I'm questioning if this is spam or if there is some reason my computer will not load this update. As I said before it does not say what the update is...that makes me a little nervous now that my computer has refused to allow it to update twice.
I tried to copy the page to send to you and it will not allow me to copy it.

That could be the update to Firefox 10.0.2; you currently have Firefox 10.0.1.
To update you can click on the Firefox menu: ''Firefox button (or File button) > Help > About Firefox > Check for Updates''. After the update is downloaded, you must restart Firefox for the update to be applied.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help."

I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." Do you know what is going on here--what this problem could be? (I do have the latest Firefox version already installed. I have previously received Firefox error messages that say "Firefox Update Failed." However, I already had the latest Firefox version installed when I received those error messages.)

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

  • How can I take 3 devices off of my email account and give them their own account. We are sharing storage and need to each have our own account.

Everyone in my family has an iPhone or iPad and they are all on one email account. How do I take them off and give them their own accounts so I can have my storage back?

Have them delete the iCloud account (your email address) on their devices then let them create their own iCloud account -> http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4436.  If all of you are syncing contacts and calendars on the same iCloud account, they have to re-organise those stuffs once they have their own iCloud account.  When you delete an iCloud account, it normally asks what would you do for the synced information - keep it on the iOS device or delete.  If they choose to keep the synced information (e.g. Contacts and Calendars), they have to delete those thare aren't theirs or they can start from scratch by deleting the synced information from the iOS device.  Hope this helps.  Cheers!

  • Parents iphone and my iphone activated with same email, now parents gets my text messages from freinds?

Hi my parents iphone(4s) and my iphone(5c) were activated with the same email now when I get a text message(imessage) from a friend they also receive the message my friend sent, so how would I turn this off on their phone; because I dont want them to read what my friend is sending me?

    Hi cloudhalo,
Based on your description that both phones are receiving each other's messages, you may need to make sure that the phone numbers aren't both linked to the same Apple ID, and/or adjust which addresses the phones are set to send and receive messages from. You may find the information outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Can my wife and I each have our own accounts on one Mac?

I've searched the forum but not found anything close to answering this yet.
My wife has an iTunes account and we have authorized her Mac and my Mac to be able to play the songs she downloads. She has always done the purchasing and I have never had an iTunes account.
Now I have been given a £25 iTunes music card and want to use it. Rather than use it on my wife's account, I was wondering can I set up my own iTunes account and authorize my Mac to play music from both accounts, or will it lose the ability to play songs from her account as soon as it is enabled to play the ones from mine?
I don't mind if the songs get mingled into one huge library so long as I can play songs from teh two accounts on my own Mac...
    Thanks

  • Using Quicken to manage a bank account, I get an error message from the bank that cookies and javascript must be enabled, but I don't get that message when I connect with Internet Explorer.

Firefox allows me to get the bank home page through Quicken. But when I try to login, the error message appears saying "cookies and javascript" must be enabled. I have Java on my system, but in Firefox under "tools/options/ I don't find any way to "enable" javascript. I have enabled "cookies".
I have no problem logging in at the bank site using Internet Explorer, but to use it, I have to designate it as the "default browser" before connecting through Quicken. I'd rather keep Firefox as the default.
A bank tech representative was unable to find any commands in Firefox that would deal with this problem, although she clearly had manuals for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. So she concluded that I would have to use Explorer for this operation, since it allowed control of security level settings. She said that in Explorer, security level should be set to medium.
Is there some similar control in Firefox?

Firefox uses the same "security level" setting that is set in IE.

i have one imac. my wife and i each have our own user accounts and itunes library.  How do we share selected music between user accounts?

To give other users read-only access to your library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.

  • I have multiple devices (imacs, lap tops and ipads) all connected to a NAS server.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife, and each have our own apple ID, and Itunes accounts, but all share the same media on NAS drives?

I have multiple devices (iMacs, Lap tops, Ipads) all connected to a Nas Drive.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife and we each have our own apple ID's, Itunes etc, but share the same data on the hard drives?  So when she logs in, and sync's her ipads, they will sync with her stuff and when I do the same under my user account, on the same device, my ipads will sync with my stuff?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

  • My wife and I share an Ipad.   We each have our own email address and calendar.   What is the best way for us to backup both accounts (we currently only have 1 ICloud account)?   Thanks for any help!    Alan

My wife and I each have our own email address and calendar.  These are on one IPad.   The Ipad has a single ICloud account.
What's the best way to backup both Calendars, etc?   Does ICloud automatically back up every account on the same IPad?  (I checked ICloud, but I could only find my stuff.)
    Thanks for any help!
    Alan

First, you need to understand that there's a difference between "syncing" and "backup".  Backup is the saving of content and settings, where syncing is the bidirectional transfer of content for an account to a web-based server (like iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
If you see your calendar in your iCloud account, that implies that you have set up your iCloud account to host (sync) your calendar, and perhaps contacts, email, and notes.  An iCloud account can only sync one user's information at a time so it is intended to support a single user.  You can have more than one iCloud account, and you can even have more than one iCloud account on the same device (but one has to be primary, and the secondary iCloud has limited capabilities), but a single iCloud account only supports a single user's content.
Backup is the saving of your device's content and settings to use in case you need to recover these things, but you can't see the contents of your backup (just the size and device name).  You can backup more than one device to iCloud and you can backup to iCloud or you can backup to your computer, or both (one at a time though, you have to choose).
So, if your wife has her own email and calendar she can certainly do that in parallel to whatever account(s) you have for email and calendar.  But if you have only one iCloud account then only one of you can use it for email, calendar, etc.  But the backup of these accounts is really just a backup of the device's settings that link the device to these accounts. For example, if she uses Gmail then the backup of the iPad only backs up the fact that your iPad is set up to use her account, it does not backup the account itself (the content of her account is saved and preserved on Google's servers, not your device's backup).
    Does that make better sense?
