MyRIO shared variable problem

Hi,
I ran into a problem I cant solve myself, maybe someone here can help me.
I cant share variable s from "My Computer" to myRIO. I set up a shared variable, and I cannot get it to show up in myRIO's vi? I connected the variable to a slider on a VI that's on "My Computer," and I want it to show and change in real time on myRIO's VI.
If I try to share a variable from myRIO to My Computer everything works fine.
What am I missing?

It might be helpful to post a zip file of the project you are working off of but there are a few common problems that we can check.
From what I understand, you have a single VI on your computer and on your myRIO.  Each VI is writing to one shared variable and reading from another so that one variable is going from the host to myRIO and the other from your myRIO to host.
If only one direction is working, do both of the variables being used belong to the same library?  If they are not, make sure you are deploying both libraries from the project (right-click the library).  If both variables are part of the same library, are  you monitoring errors coming from the shared variables?  Are you able to force any values through distributed system manager and see them update your variables?

  • Shared variables problem

I have 2 applications runnng in different PC connected to the same network
Both applications are for testing purposes before going on with the real implementation. Written in LV 8.5 and based on Shared Variables.
While everything is fine when those application run on the same PC (in effect, localsystem), nothing seems to work when each is active in the proper PC.
Shared variables seem not to be seen from outside the PCs.
This happens also when I use Variable manager on both machines: I create a variable on PC1, defining it as published. Then I create another variable on the other machine (PC2) and try to bind it to the variable deifned in the PC1. Pressing the Browse button the list of PCs networked to mine appears. Selecting th eone I need (PC1), Variable Manager tries to populate the tree but hangs up. Or, better said, simply does not populate the tree. The ariable Manager still works but the item son the other PC are not seen.
    Any suggestion?

    Hi there,
I'm having a very similar issue. My set up is 2 pc's on the same network, the "server" (date generated on this pc) running LV 8.0 ip#1,  the other is running LV 2010 and will only see the data, ip#2.
I have set up two test network shared variables and configured them on the server machine Ip#1 to bind to ip#2.  When I run the vi's I see that the shared variables are deployed to the particular machine.
On ip#1 I included a test vi in the project to read data from the ip#1 shared variable, and I see no data.  I have other local shared variables working within ip#1, but the network shared variables cannot be read even within the same project.
Any ideas as to why I cannot read the networked shared variable within the same project on the same computer?
Also the link about multiple network-adaptors is dead.  I have seen strange issues when configuring the networkd shared variables if I have a VPN sessing going to an outside network on both computers, I will see both the windows computer name and the ip address.
Is there anyway to delete a computer after adding it as a shared variable potential source?
Thanks for any help, there are a couple of questions here.

  • Problem with dsc shared shared variables and error 1950679023

I'm having trouble using shared variables on my laptop PC (with Windows XP) using Labview 8.2 and DSC.   I've set up a simple project with one VI and one shared variable library.  In the VI, I have  a while loop that writes a number from a front panel control to the shared variable.  Another loop running in parallel reads the shared variable and displays to an indicator on the front panel.   The VI resides on my PC (no remote targets). This program executes just fine on my desk top PC; however I get the following error codes out of the shared variable nodes when I run the project and VI on my laptop for the write and read, respectively: ni_tagger_lv_Write 180121604 ni_tagger_lv_Read -1950679023 I've tried to manually deploy the shared variable library without success. The NI knowledge base  and other entries on this forum suggested that the Windows firewall should be disabled for a quick fix, however, the firewall was already disabled on my lap top. I didn't see any entries regarding the 180121604 error code.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem has mysteriously gone away.  For about the 10th time, I manually deployed the share variable library, and it started to work properly.

  • Problems with communication across a network using shared variables

I have two programs(projects) running on two different computers connected with a LAN. I am using LabVIEW 8.0, and the DSC-module. The program on one of the computers have measurements that I want to collect and show on the program running on the other computer on the network. I choose the indicator where I want to show the data, select ''Properties'', ''Data binding'', ''Shared Variable Engine (NI-PSP)'', ''Network Items'' and then browse for a Network...but the problem is that in my ''Network Neighborhood'' There is only one computer...and that is the one I am one...not the computer on my Network that I want to communicate with....
Have anyone any suggestions on how to solve this?
    Kind regards Mari

  • Shared variable engine memory problem

    Hello,
I have a lot of problems with DSC 8. The server that worked very well in DSC 7, in DSC 8 is creating a lot of problems starting with memory leaks in tagsrv process. I have over 5000 shared variables and when I publish them the tagsrv is around 90Mb of memory. After approx. 30 min is around 130Mb and so on until the computer becomes useless. If I restart the computer the process is the same, even if I don't start the VI that updates the shared variables. I tried to uncheck different things in the variables definition like: no alarming, no buffering, no scaling, with no improvement.
Is there a way to undeploy the shared variables or processes manually, not from the labview project, or Variable Manager. To undeploy the mentioned library with the Variable Manager takes more that an hour (just to enumerate all the shared variables).
    Any suggestion is welcomed,
    cosmin

    cosmin,
I have several thoughts for you.  First, I recommend
    splitting up
your 5000 variable library into a set of smaller libraries.  In
    contrast
with the LabVIEW DSC 7 engine, the LabVIEW 8 Shared Variable Engine is
optimized for multiple smaller libraries.  I would recommend
    having at
most about 1000 variables per library.  You'll see some different
recommendations from different people at NI, but in my personal
    experience I
think 1000 is about as many Shared Variables that can be easily managed
    at
once.  For your case this would mean having 1000 variables in 5
    different
libraries.   --Splitting up your library gives you the added
    benefit of being able to
undeploy/disable individual libraries without affecting the other
libraries.  Unfortunately, the SCF migration tool will not do this
for you manually so it may take a little time to get everything
    organized.
Your comment about ever-increasing memory usage is
    concerning.  Do
you see this while deploying your library, or while writing
    values?  If
you write to values very fast (like in an untimed loop) for an extended
    period
of time memory usage will increase as the variable buffers
    increase.
Please elaborate more on this topic and let me know what happens if you
separate your variables into multiple libraries.  I was not able
to reproduce this on a similarly spec'd computer using 10 libraries of
    500 variables each.
You can programmatically undeploy libraries using the delete process VI
on the DSC Engine Control palette in LabVIEW.  Use this VI in combination
with the get process list VI to quickly remove all currently deployed
    libraries.
Also, regarding your question about why variables sometimes show up the
Published Variable Monitor window; the different utilities you described may
use different methods to get that variable list.  These methods behave
differently depending on how stressed the Shared Variable Engine is.  If
you're in the middle of loading a library with 5000 variables I'm not surprised
that the list won't get populated immediately in the Published Variable Monitor
window.  After the library successfully loads though, you should be able
to refresh the view and see all the variables.

  • Coercion problem when using Shared Variable

I have a curious coercion problem when using Shared Variables.  I want to share the state of a State Machine, which is an enum saved as a control (typedef) called TYPE State (see attached).  I create a shared variable called State and define it as a Custom Control, using the just-mentioned typedef.  So far, so good.  I've attached three simple VIs -- the first one, Init State, simply wires a constant to the input of the Shared Variable to initialize it -- the wired constant is, of course, defined by the typedef.  However, the Get State and Set State, meant to wire an indicator (for reading the state) or control (for setting it), develop coercion dots when wired into the Shared Variable.  Why?  How do I get rid of the dot?  [I suppose I could abandon my typedef and custom control, but the beauty of typedefs and custom controls is that it "enforces" rules, lets you use enums for clarity, keeps the code "honest", etc. -- I'd hate to give that up just to get rid of a dot!].
On a related note, the code seems to work.  This is much too simplistic to do anything, but if you open Set State and Get State, set the state to anything, run it (it immediately stops, of course), then run Get State, you'll see the chosen state appear in the indicator.  So it does appear to work.  The "error" (coercion dot) may, I suppose, be a "bug" in Labview because it can't figure out the mapping of the (very simple!) Custom Control, but if so, I hope it gets fixed quickly!

    Hello Bob,
I am also seeing this behavior, I will escalate this question to our LabVIEW developers and post again here no later than next Tuesday, November 27th as National Instruments will be closed for the remainder of this week.
If this issue does turn into a product suggestion, I would suspect the workaround would to live with the coersion dot for the time being.
    Enjoy the holiday

  • Problem while binding variable progmatically shared variable in RT

    Hi All,
I have a problem while programaticaly binding the shared variable from RT controller.
The application scenario is as follows
I have three cFP controllers and two
server PCs in my application. Servers are implemented with Redundancy. If server
1 fails, server 2 will take care and vice versa. The cFP controller program is
intelligent enough to detect this switching and identify the active server.
    I am using shared variable
communication for transferring the data between cFP and Active Server. This I am
achieving by binding the cFP variable to Server variables. I can bind server
variables to cFP variables also. But I have some advantage with first one rather
    than second one.
Now, cFP Variable to Server Variable
binding I can do in two ways.
Right click the variable in Project
Explorer and select the network URL.
    Other method is by programmatic
    binding.
    Now Programatic binding should be
done in cFP controller since cFP controller should bind to second server
    whenever it detects switching.
    For this, I tried with
SharedVariableIO property node like in the below attached diagram 1.
But I was getting a deployment error
    shown in attached diagram 2.
The second method I tried is by
transferring a shared variable library cFP Library.lvlib to cFP through FTP and
opening the Library variable reference and by using the variable property node.
This way of binding was successful when I run from windows PC. But in RT
controller, it was giving me Error 1 while opening a
    library.
I am attaching the code with this post
Summary of the problem is I am not able to progmatically bind variables from

Kindly help me in solving this
    problem.

  • Problems with builded app and shared variables

I got connection error message (Invalid server: cannot connect to server) when selecting a shared variable using dashboard. The app is running on a Win7 PC.
I have no problem connecting the PC's IP at my dashboard indicator, even, I can select the shared vars library of my app.
I opened the ports on Windows and Router TCP: 2343, 59000-60000 UDP: 2343, 6000-6010, and created new inbound rules for the kads.exe, lktsrv.exe and tagsrv.exe programs and installed the Run-Time 2013 engine on that PC. By the way, the application also has HTML files created with the web publishing tools that is working OK.
When I test the application on my develop PC (with LabVIEW 2013) everything works fine.

  • TPC 2012 - Problems with shared variable

    Hi,
I tried to program simmilar thing to this one http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5548 on TPC 2012. But it doesn't work.I can see that both programs on my laptop and TPC are working(I've added an additional counter with display), but I cannot see any effect on TPC when I change the value of shared variable on my laptop. I use LabView 8.6 with Touch Panel Module. My question is what are the exact steps to run such application on TPC2012? Are they the same as for TPC 2006?
    I've noticed following issues:
1.I cannot deploy the program from Project Manager(there is an information that maybe TPC Service is not started. - I've found such information about TPC Service http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/DE177828D27A14A48625734E00768B66 but in fact I cannot find Start » All Programs»National Instruments » NI TPC Service » NI TPC Service Manager 1.0 Does it mean, that the TPC Service is not installed and the programm with shared varibles won't be working or can I start it somehow in another way? Do I need to have TPC service installed on TPC2012?
Until now, I've built the project and sent it through FTP to TPC(the folder was /TEMP) and then started it.
    2.Ping works OK
Thank you in advance for any hints how to solve this problem.

  • Problems writing to network published shared variable hosted on rt (set as modbus slave for crio)

    Hello Ni Forums
This is my first post on this forum and I have been using labview for about 8 months now
I have a problem regarding writing data to modbus registers through an i/o server set as a modbus slave for my 9074 hardware. After I have completed building project and deploying the variables and following instructions from here , it yields no result but a line zeros. I have the Ni DSM open and modbus master setup to see whether the data is actually being read/written from the respective sides which both yield the same line of zeros as well.  What I am actually trying to write to is an array of single precision floating data. The registers are structured from ranges F40000-F46534 for 10 elements or have them for range AF40001L1-AF46534L1 of item AF40001L10 where it is an array of length 10. (Referenced ranges here)
I know 1 thing for sure, the modbus connection works and is ready for data requests, I tested this through NI DSM and manually set data for and my master received them .

Short Version of the problem: Why is the io variable not being written into with properly converted data?

The data can have zeros but not all of them will be zeros and I have another program (on local computer for database storage)that is recieving the same data through TCP and they are not zeros.
If a machine is running and is active then the data that will be collected should not be zero , it should infact  be some analog value > 0.
I will look into the function you described
How do you view the errors in the IO server subfolders ?
Is it the modbus register called error status that returns an error code if so that value is currently 0

  • Problems reading from bound shared variable

I have a shared variable that is bound to another shared variable.  When I go to read it's value in a VI by wiring the variable to the "value" property of a digital numeric object it displays zero.  When i look at the two shared variable in the variable manager they show the correct values.  Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

    Welcome to the forums!
Let's narrow down the possibilities here.  Try wiring the shared
variable directly to a front panel indicator rather than using a
property node.  Second, the shared variable object includes an
error out terminal - this is where the variable engine can report any
errors in obtaining a value from the bound item.  Wire the error
out to an error handler VI and re-run - you may find that the Shared
Variable Engine is reporting an error, which would be most helpful in
    determining the problem.
If you could let me know the results of the above suggestions, I'll be glad to help further!

    Hi,
    Trying
to modify the sample project "Shared Variable Client / Server" in a
project where different clients to send data to the server (ie the
exact opposite of what it does)
I untapped in the problem illustrated in the two figures that follow.
    That
is, replacing "Writable PSP Variable" to "readable" in "Connect"
(Figure 1) gives me an error in "Read / Write" (FIGURE 2), and of
course here I replaced "Read Variable" a "Write Variable.
While using the Data Socket works, but I have clear advantages and disadvantages of using this approach.
    What
is the best route between Shared Variable and Data Socket to create a
client / server system so constituted, or with a large number of
customers to serve (to grow) that simultaneously sends a fair amount of
data (approximately those of a serial to 115200bps) to a server

  • Problem Sharing Variables between 2 machines

I am having problems trying to create a project that would share variables between multiple computers. I am using Labview 8.2.1 (I am new to 8.2.1 and Shared Variable).
    here is what i did:
    1. I created the project with Client and Server VI's and a library containing shared variables, which both of them call
    2. I placed this project onto 2 computers (XP on a local workgroup, no firewall, see each other).
    3.  On one of the computers I bound all shared variables to their counterparts on the other computer
    The system is "almost working"
    The problems are:
    - I initially used wrong type variables for few items. I then modified the variables in both VI's and Shared Variable libraries and repeated the Steps 1-3 above.
But the sysrtem has some sort of a buffer somwhere, because it keeps bringing the old types of shared variables back (when I monitor them using Shared Variable Monitor).
    - When I do binding to source, the system shows wrong variable types (for example DBL instead of U8).
    - It takes almost a second to write and read shared variable (my network is quite fast)
I saw that the Labview Example with Server and multiple Clients uses 2 sets of shared variable and they bind - separate sets (different names) fro client and server within the same project. Do I have to do this or is this done just to simplify bindinga nd future distribution?
Is there a buffer/setup/file that I need to clear to get rid of "old" shared variable assignements? (I tried undeploy/deploy - does not help...)
    Thank you very much,
    Gleb.

    Hi Gleb,
It sounds like the shared variable is not getting completely undeployed from the shared variable engine.  I would recommend opening the shared variable manager and undeploying the library from there just to see that it is no longer in the engine.  Then, redeploy the library and rebind your variables to the host library that you have deployed.
It is not necessary to have different sets of variables for client and host.  The important part of the variable is what it is bound to, not necessarily what it is named.  So just undeploy your variable, double check the settings of the host variable, then redeploy using the variable manager and rebind your client variables.
    I hope this helps,

I am a newbie to labVIEW, after working on this program for 3 months with the help of NI people, the good news is, I finally can get a running program. The bad news is, the program is especially slow and 3 parallel loops only 1 ran. My code includes modbus, however, modbus works much faster than the shared variables of fieldpoint.
      Hence qn:
    1) Why are the shared variables not working? I am using network published variables as my host computer passes value to the FP target and I set a buffer for the program. The program entails read and writing of shared variables, however, it was made sure that only 1 variable is allowed to read and write at one time.
    2) Why only 1 of the 3 parallel loops will run? They are having the same time wait function, no loop should eat up the whole time share of the processor.
    Attached are my program.
    Really hope someone can help.

    Hi cfp!
Are the three parallel loops you're talking about then ones in cFP - Temperature Control? If so, they're not parallel at all. You're wiring the error cluster from the top loop into the middle loop and then into the bottom loop. This causes a data dependency of the bottom loop on the middle loop and the middle loop on the top loop.
Remember that a node (such as a VI, function, or loop structure) can not execute until it receives all its inputs. Furthermore, a node can't release its output values until it's completely finished executing. In the case of a while loop, this means the terminal condition must be met and the while loop has stopped executing. This means that the middle loop must wait for the top loop to finish before it can even start. And the bottom loop must wait for the middle loop to stop before it can start.
Delete the error cluster wires between the loops and you should have three bona fide parallel loops. Consider some other method of transfer between the loops for your error information if it's pertinant to your code, such as local variables, queues, notifiers, etc.
