MySQL question regarding default values

For the contacts management tutorial the contacts table ('contact_con') lists data for names as:
`name_con` varchar(50) NOT NULL default ''
However, in the PHPAdmin panel the "default" field is referenced by a footnote which reads: "For default values, please enter just a single value, without backslash escaping or quotes, using this format: a
Does this mean that the default field is simply left blank, or as PHPAdmin puts it, left blank "without [...] quotes"? If so, why include these quotes in the SQL dump?

*if* you specify a default blank value for text columns (e.g. varchar) in your sql dump, you will have to use those quotes, and that´s the correct way to do that -- but it´s of course up to you to omit specifying a default blank default value.
Providing an SQL dump that´s going to be inserted into PhpMyAdmin is different from how things can be specified when working with PhpMyAdmin directly.
If this is incorrect, how does one enter a blank default value in the values field 'for 'name_con' (for instance) by using the PHPadmin gui
just leave the default value field empty, and PhpMydmin will care for the rest.
when it specifically instructs not to use quotes for this field?
because you don´t have to add those quotes when working with PhpMyAdmin directly :-)

Does the date need to be in the users date format? The INITIALIZATION event is the correct place to do this. I assume that P_XBLNR is a character field of length 11. To get the date in the users date format, do the following:
INITIALIZATION.
WRITE SY-DATUM TO P_XBLNR MM/DD/YYYY.
P_XBLNR+10(1) = '?'.
Even though the WRITE says MM/DD/YYYY, it will still produce the date in the users format.

JSP + MYSQL question: input form value into a SQL table

I am writing some JSP code to read input information from a input form to write this information into a SQL field.
My problems are:
- how can i pass the input form information to other jsp file ? (like Getproperty of something like this)
- how can i move the content of any input information into a variable ? I mean something like this:

A question about assigning a default value

Hi guys, I have a question about assigning a default value to a Numeric Decision CO. This Co needs 2 parameters to compare with each other. I wanna assign para1 during runtime and para2 during design time, but I have no idea how to assign a default value to para2 during design time. Can anyone help me solve this question? Thx a lot.
BTW I`m searching an article about Time-off example`s "details". I have read several articles about time-off example, but those are not detailed enough. I wanna know about all details of COs. Can anyone forward such article to me, plz. Thx again.^^

You can assign a default value to the parameter of a callable object.
First attach your CO to an Action.At the action level you can assign default values to the CO Parameters.
Select the action in the design time.
Select the parameters tab for that action.
Select the required paramter. At the top, you can find Default value tab, with that you can assign default value.
I think you can achieve your requirements with Business logic CO better.

Default value question

I have field defined in table:

<br>This is important because on some forms DEFAULT value of field is "0". It is easy to make 2 LOVS and use it in the forms when applicatable. But if LOV has 10 values, then making DEFAULT value is not easy to set automatically.

You want to set the value of the item (when it is rendered) to the default value of the item's associated database table/column according to the table DDL. If that value is one of the values in the item's LOV then using the item's default value attribute (as a query or function as I said) will set the item value if no value has been set by another means (passing a value to the page, using a computation or page process, the primary source value for the iterm, etc.).
If that isn't what you mean, then you're going to have to use a lot more words to explain it.

MySQL Default Values

I have created a site for a local artist at

When a user upload a message without a photo the mySQL
database table get a new row with 4 simple pieces of data, the
name, the message and the location of the image. This all works
great except for some reason, the image_url field in my database is
not updated with the default value in the case where the user
uploads a message with no photo. This field is configured to be not
null and a default value is set according to the view of the table
in phpMyAdmin. If I use the command line to run the following sql
the default value is updated.
insert into posts(name, post)
values('test name', 'test post');
I am a little bit at a loss as to how the app is able to get
a null value into this field which is set to not null and has a
default value declared.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

That suggests that you are inserting zero length strings,
which is not
the same thing as a null value. Your code that does the
insert needs to
validate the image_url and not include it in the insert if
nothing was
provided.

MySQL Default Values with Updates

This is a bit off topic, I'm hoping someone can help me here so I don't have to join the MySQL email list.
I would like to update a row in a table to use the mysql default values. So if TableA has FieldA which had a default value of 1, and now that value is 2, I would like to change this back to 1. Is there an easy way to do this?
Is there a command in MySQL I can use? Something like:
update TableA set FieldA = DEFAULT

Not according to the documentation (of version 3, anyway). You could delete the record then insert it, not mentioning the field you want to set to default.

And for some strange reason, all PersonNodes and AddressNodes link to the same ResponseNode.PersonNode.PersonParentsNode.PersonNode and ResponseNode.PersonNode.PersonParentsNode.PersonNode.PersonAddressNode.AddressNode respectively, irregardless of their branch...
Is it illegal to have multiple PersonNode and AddressNode node names, and should they be named uniquely?

Generally, node names need to be unique inside the context, attributes in different nodes can have same names. I wonder if the context structure you described will result in code without compile errors.
The WD Tree can only be used with recursive context nodes or with a hierarchy of non-singleton child nodes.
Can you give an example how your tree should look like at runtime?

Regarding the Report's Default Value

Now the default value of the CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine is empty which is a problem clarified by both Luke and Don Williams. Don provided a good tips for code, referring Don's reply at Jan 10, 2014 and Jul 31, 2012, I’ve tested this and it is worked, and I got a default value. However, the other sever problem has been occurred. Since the unmanaged code (COM) can't construct (casting) to the managed code directly, since it is a interface. Otherwise the original all Crystal Document objects will be wiped out, and become null value. Here is my analysis referred Don’s code:

MEREP_MON log error question on SYNCBO default values

Hello All,
I am getting some errors when I sync the MI Client on the Mobile DSD execution.
Error says the following :
"Default value missing: Value ID=MBLID, depends on=1, exclusive="
Default value missing: Value ID=USER, depends on=1, exclusive=
Looks like we need to give some default values for the DSD* and SPE* SYNCBO's What values we need to give over there. I think we cann't hardcode our Mobile device id and Mobile user id over there.

Hi Greetson,
You are right when you say that you can't just go and manually add those values. They are setup when SyncBo is created, for userID, for example, it will be something like ME-SYNC_USER.
If you uploaded DSD SyncBos properly thse values should have been imported as well.
Try to upload SAP delivered set of SyncBos again (normally, there should be a SyncBo definition file in your application package).
If you have exported a SyncBo definition file yourself and then used this file to upload SyncBos in the other system - you didn't export "default values". There is a button "advanced" that has to be clicked on and then all checkboxes checked to get a complete SyncBo definition exported in a file.

SQLLDR - how to set a default value for an empty string

I'm using SQLLDR to load data from a flat file on Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 EE, Linux RHEL 4 update 6. Seems like my question is simple, but darned if I can't find the solution.
My source file (comma delimited extracted form a different RDBMS) has some (not all) rows where the output for a string is "", and not NULL. How do I check for empty string and add a default value in the control file? The target column is non-nullable

How to change default value of a parameter and LOV attached to a parameter

Hi All
I am new to discoverer reports and I need to accomplish the following tasks:
1. Need to change the SQL query of a discoverer report
2. Need to change the default value of parameter ( from constant to current month). In the discoverer plus responsibility when I open the report and go to tools>>parameter>>edit
I can see the constant default value given there. On the right hand side there is a drop down which says 'Value'. I guess if i need to put a SQL as defaul value I need to change the drop down to sql or something and then put the SQL. Problem is the drop down is froezen and I cannot change it.
Even if I try to create a new parameter/report.
3. Need to change the LOV associated to the item on which the parameter is based.
I have the discoverer plus responsibility attached to myself and do not have the discoverer administrator tool (desktop developer tool like forms 6i). My questions are:
1. Can I change the SQL query by using discoverer plus responsibility or do I need discoverer administrator tool?
2. Any help on how to get the default value from an SQL query? currently it is a constant value.
3. Is there any way to figure out is the LOV is madeup of fixed constant values (like independednt value set) or they are fetched from some sql query(table validated value sets)?
Any pointers/solutions will be highly appriciated!!!

Need to change the SQL query of a discoverer reportThe discoverer generate the SQL according to the item, calculation and conditions designed in the worksheet.
You cannot edit a specific worksheet SQL.
In order to change the SQL you need to change the worksheet using the "Edit-> worksheet" from the menu.
To change the SQL generated inside the folders you need to do that using the administrator.
Need to change the default value of parameterYou cannot use SQL statements for the parameter default value. it is not supported. if you need default you can use only constant (as it was). otherwise you can set the parameter to be optional and then add to this condition an OR saying that <item>= NVL(:Parameter,<your default>)
as <your default> you can use calculations so that if for example you want the current date you will create a calculation containing: SYSDATE.
Is there any way to figure out is the LOV is madeup of fixed constant values (like independednt value set) or they are fetched from some sql query(table validated value sets)?They are based on SQL, even they are const then you will see it as
select 'a','b'... from dual
you can find the LOV (called item classes) in the administrator.
Go to the item your condition is based on and see its properties.
In the properties you should see the item class it uses.
Close the properties and go to the item classes tab, search for this item class and figure the folder it came from.
This is the folder you need to change in order to change the LOV.
