N-81 NaviKey Light & Music Player

Hi..
I have recently bought a N-81. I have 2 queries for which I seek assistance.
1. the navikey has a backlight which flickers every 4-5 seconds. Is there any way of switching off this backlight.
2. Once I have started the music player there is no way of getting it out of memory. There is no option as EXIT in the music player. Only option is there is HIDE. Is there any way of closing the media player after having started it.

for blinking - in User guide: this blinking is an indicator, that N81 in powersave mode, so its all ok.
If you wanna turn off the blinking - in Settings > Turn Off Sleep Mode - that turn off an indicator, not the Sleep Mode.
By the way - many users of N81 ask: how to make a screensaver to be viewed all time - not the 2-3 sec after slide is closed, especially when "Block" button was switch ON.
Maybe fixed in next firmware for N81? Any ideas?

    Im looking for a gtk music player like exaile or quodlibet (some app that manages a music library), but doesnt have gnome dependencies. I always end up installing gnome-vfs, gconf and others because gstreamer pulls them.

    MPD with Ario as client. Sonata is good MPD client too.

    (ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
    I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
    I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
    I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
    I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
    I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
    Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
    When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
    Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
    These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
    Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

    Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Looking for a decent music player

    I know there is a lot of similar topics on forum, but no one did not respond to my question.
    So far I have tried Exaile, Rhytmbox, Pragha, Decibel, Goggles, ... and so on.
    They are all good players but have some critical flaws.
    Exaile is maybe the best of them, but it is slow with large collections.
    Pragha is fast and light but does not support pulse and multimedia keys wont work with it.
    Decibel is next best thing after Exaile.
    Goggles is fast, but ugly, media keys wont work, no pulse support and its GUI is confusing.
    I have even tried mpd + GUI, but such option is just too complicated to setup for simple music player.
    Okay, this is my personal opinion. What do you think?
    I just need player with ease of use of Exaile but faster with large music collections.

    I'd suggest you buy a faster computer with lots of memory and keep using exaile.
    Regarding GMM:
    1) media keys: we try to grab the usual XF86AudioPlay multimedia keys. If they don't work, it usually means they're already grabbed by some other application or desktop environment (I noticed this with gnome on a ubuntu installation). In case of the desktop environment, remove the default keybindings for those specific keys. Another case it might fail if the multimedia keys don't have the usual XF86Audio* keycode assigned to them.
    2) For pulse support you need a pulseaudio plugin for xine. Either file a bugreport with Arch to enable the building of the plugin, or create your own custom xine package.
    3) I'm always happy to hear suggestions to make the GUI less confusing.

  • Lightweight qt music player?

    i'm looking for a simple, fast, lightweight qt music player, basically something like foobar2000. i've tried qmmp, but it scans my music directory on startup and takes an exceedingly long time to load. at the moment, i'm using juk, but it's buggy (slow startup, custom shortcuts don't work, etc.) and development seems to have halted.
    of course, if there are no good options, i suppose i could go with a console-based player like moc or cmus. one question: is it possible to create a shortcut to load a player like moc or cmus?
    thanks!

    Dheart wrote:When I migrated from win 4 years ago the thing I missed the most was foobar2000. Unfortunately the only way to use foobar under linux is via wine (heard that recent versions did miracles with it, perfect sound quality etc.)
    I've settled with mpd + sonata. It's not that much of a feature rich but it gives you basic music player (really lightweight) easily managed playlists and lyrics + cover art fetcher, even a tag edtior.
    actually, i used foobar2000 in wine for a while, but these days i'd rather use native linux applications.
    EDIT:
    Whoops didn't see the qt requirement.
    You could chose another mpd frontend and also the mocp shortcut is easy to create. Regardless of the DE you're using just create new shortcut and check the "run in terminal" checkbox.
    awesome, just what i wanted to know.
    i thought about mpd. i had some trouble getting it to work before, but i may take another look.

  • 6300 - how to stop autostart of music player on Bl...

    Hi,
    Since a few weeks I'm using a Nokia 6300. A few days ago a bought a Jabra BT8040. Pairing with two different phones is a bless, but ... the 6300 has a nasty habbit of automatically starting the music player and playing music thru the earpiece. I have a similar problem with my Parrot MK6100, but this is an ad-hoc problem.
    Back to the Jabra: The device has been paired and set to connect without confirmation. Everything is fine. Now I disconnect by turning off the earpiece or by walking out of range from my phone. As soon as the Jabra autoconnects again, the pairing confirmation is displayed, the message disappearsand the date and time starts showing up. So far so good, but now the songtitle that the music player starts is shown above the date and the music can be heared from the earpiece.
    I've tried almost everything and read the complete manual and FAQ's to stop the autostart of the musicplayer, but I can't find the answer to my problem and any attempt so far has been futile.
    Who's is smart enough to come up with the correct answer?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    To solve the problem using BT8040, you need to pair it in the special music pairing mode. It can be found the BT8040 manual, under troubleshooting and faq.
    Below is the excerpt:
    The music player starts playing when connecting to the
    headset.Some phones may start the music player once it connects to the headset. Re-pair your headset to the device in order to avoid this behaviour.
    1. Make sure the headset is off
    2. Press and hold the answer / end button for approx 5 sec until the light turns solid blue
    3. Continue press and hold the answer / end button until the solid blue light turns off
    4. Continue press and hold until a solid purple light turns on
    Go through the regular steps in paring the headset to a Bluetooth device.

  • Best Lightweight Music Player/Manager

    I was looking for a music player with the following features.
    1. Lightweight.
    2. Quick keyboard controls.
    3. Music management (organize music based on id3 tags and folders)
    4. Edit id3 tags in baches and one-by-one.
    5. Rating of songs.
    Other features that will be appreciated but not necessary are:
    1. Ability to change music format.
    2. Rip music from cd.
    I tried the following:
    1. xmms + madman. I dont like the way madman opens xmms separately and poor integration of these 2.
    2. mpd + client. I tried few clients like sonata, gmpc and gmpc works best for me, but again i cannot edit id3 tags.
    3. xmms2 +client. I havent found a good client for it.
    Whats the best in ur opinion.
    Also please suggest a client for mpd and xmms2 that have the above features.

    I guess you have to make choices on what you find important to have vs system requirements.
    Some very non-scientific data:
    http://fifthplanet.blogspot.com/2007/03 … ayers.html
    Yeah.... i think they're very non-scientific and unrepresentative.
    Just checked up here, mpd is using 0.8% of 1gb ram, that is, *8mb*
    So... yeah, either all those applications are terrible, or those results are very fubar.
    James
    I agree... I've had MPD running and playing for the past 18 hours and it's using 6mb. MPD is very very lightweight by it's self.
    Sonata is using 34mb, but I know there's alot lighter-weight clients out there.
    edit: and the funny thing is, sonata (and mpd combined) beats all those music players, and it's got tons of features

  • How can I stop the display dimming when plugged into a powersupply. Cannot read playlist in car using music player.

    My new ipod seems to dim after a short time, even when plugged into a power supply, unlike my previous ipod, which used to stay illuminated
    when plugged into the car stereo and external power
    Now in order to see the playlist I have to swipe or touch the home button, using the music player. However using  a GPS app, the screen stays
    fully illuminated......as it should!
    Is this normal now for playing music?
    Also, the new grey on white menu display for music is very hard to read in the car in bright daylight.......unlke the old white on black. Nothing I
    can do about that sadly except complain to apple directly :-(

    Hi Diavonex. Yes I was aware of this option.
    Subsequently I have done a litle research and downloaded a music app called "Track 8" which has a much clearer interface (larger type) and the abillity to change the background colour to dark or light.
    This is much more readable in the car in bright light, and much better at night too.
    You can also turn off auto-lock within the application, which is great, as it doesn't affect other apps.
    Although this app is really only an interface sitting on top of the music app, it offers a much better experience
    in my opinion that the stock player which seems to have devolved rather than evolved.

  • Favorite Music Player?

    Hey all!  What's your favorite music player for linux?  Here are some of my opinions on music players for linux.
    XMMS:  Very nice WinAmp2 clone, though I don't feel that it comes close to being as good as WinAmp2.  WA2 has movie support, and more plugins/visualazations.  The plugins for xmms are nice, but chances are you won't get them to compile.
    RhythmBox:  Very functional music player.  Never had any stability/configuration problems with this one.  It looks half decent in tiny-mode, but no theming support.
    BMP:  BMP is a GTK2 fork of xmms, which is actively being developed.  BMP is still glitchy, but when it matures it will be very nice.  BMP promises winamp plugin support in the future!
    Zinf:  I've been using this a lot lately... It has a nice interface, and decent playlist support and organazation.  There are a couple themes available, and it can look quite sexy with the octapus theme!

    whatah wrote:
    XMMS is by far my favorite player, first off, it does have quite a bit of plugins, and you don't necessarily need to compile them, you can get them in a binary format because xmms' API has not changed much over the years. Another advantage to xmms is that xmms is very skinnable, and I do not believe there are any other players on the desktop that resemble it. While zinf does have skins, i find it very unintuitive to use. Also, zinf's playlist editor is ungainly and is not something i would want to keep open on my desktop. xmms also has support for kjofol skins. You can use xmms to play videos with an mplayer plugin, however, i prefer to use mplayer on the CLI to play movies anyways. xmms also has support for most sound systems out there, including ALSA, JACK, ESD and ARTS. And finally, BMP is a gtk2 port of xmms. xmms uses gtk+. :wq
    whatah
    P.S. if you are looking for a good visualization plugin, try out 'xmms-iris' it has nice visuals and is a light load on the CPU.
    xmmsmplayer is very nice!  I just made an AL package for it..
    pkgname=xmmsmplayer
    pkgver=0.5
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="An mplayer plugin for xmms"
    url="http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/~nandan/xmmsmplayer.php"
    license=""
    depends=(xmms)
    makedepends=()
    conflicts=()
    replaces=()
    backup=()
    install=
    source=(http://aleron.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/xmmsmplayer/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
    md5sums=()
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg/ install
    Xmms-iris is also nice!  these two plugins are bringing me back to use bmp!

  • Looking for a new music player

    Hey guys. I just installed Arch and everything's looking great, but I haven't picked a music player yet.
    I want something extremely light and simple, using GTK+. I just want to make a playlist and play it. I don't want uber-advanced media collection management and iPod support and Audioscrobbling and whatnot. And no KDE/Qt apps either. Most importantly, I want it to be able to run completely from the tray.
    So, Archers: any ideas?

    Well, is controlling Audacious from the tray all that... needed?
    I use Global Hotkeys and have quite a few bindings set up. They work surprisingly well.
    The list as it appears in the hotkey editor window:
    Previous Track: Control + Alt + Prior (PgUp)
    Play: Control + Alt + Return
    Pause/Resume: Pause
    Stop: Control + Alt + End
    Next Tracks: Control + Alt + Next (PgDn)
    Forward 5 seconds: Control + Alt + Right
    Rewind 5 seconds: Control + Alt + Left
    Volume Up: Control + Alt + Up
    Volume Down: Control + Alt + Down
    Pause/Resume: Control + Alt + Insert
    Stop: Control + Shift + F11

  • Torch 9800 Music player - Delete track while playing issue

    Hi there,
    I wonder if anyone can shed light on this issue: here's what i do
    1. Open Music Player
    2. start playing a track (in All Songs, shuffle mode)
    3. If I wish to delete this track I then open the slider keyboard
    4. Hit the [Del] key
    5. Select [Yes] to delete the track
    6. The track stops playing (obviously since it's deleted now)
    7. the player then skips to the next track (as expected)
    BUT....
    8. The screen displays the incorrect song details for the track that is NOW playing (other random track in my collection) on screen until I hit stop and then play again to display the correct song details.
    Anyone ANY ideas why this might be and whether it'll be fixed in any future updates... it's really frustrating
    Thanks
    Steven

    Also, if you delete the track means available when playing another track - the name and picture of the current change to the name and image of the previous list, which should not be.

  • 5530 XM music player woes...

    So I updated to the latest firmware for my wife's new (less than a week old) 5530XM and the music player freezes many times per day (more if less based on use, but at least twice a day. It freezes and the characteristics of the freeze is strange. I cannot play any music. I can select songs as long as I do not leave the play list or go back to the main music screen. I can push any button I want within the music player and the button will light up recognizing that I pushed it. I can also go into the menu system and press entries such as exit. However, none of the buttons work. Other than being able to maneuver the music player is completely unusable. To solve the issue we have to completely reboot the phone.
    I am not new to Nokia phones, but this is the first phone I have ever had a problem with and do not have much experience troubleshooting.
    Any help you can give would be greatly appreciate it (Since the whole reason we bought it was for the music  ).
    Thanks

    Try to reinstall the firmware. It may not have been installedproperly.

  • N95-1 Music player Volume control problems

    I muted the music player recently by turning the volume all the way down via the side volume controls and now I'm unable to turn the volume back on or up. The up controls on the side of the phone seem to work, ie feel the click of the switch operate, but nothing happens? I'm able to listen through the headset HS-45 that comes with the phone but have no control over the phone/music/video via the AD-43 in either the Music or Video modes?. Haven't yet tried the phone functions via headset! can somebody throw some light onto these issue's - phone has been its firmware recently updated to the latest version via the Nokia web site without any problems in a hope of rectifying these issue's but no luck.

    Hi
    I have a similar problem. Recently upgraded to V21.
    Stick with me here...
    Firstly I noticed the volume keys on the side of the phone didn't work; couldn't turn music up/down nor did they work when I was on a call. The only way to adjust in call volume was to use the centre navi key.
    Secondly; whenever this happens I also notice when the keys are locked that the message "Press Unlock to activate keypad" keeps appears on the screen without me pressing anything.
    Finally this causes a battery drain. Massively increasing the power usage from 0.2w to well over 1w
    This happens intermittently i.e. cant adjust volume for about a day then everything is fine again.
    Yesterday I also noticed that when the above happens the music controls (multimedia keys) when the slider is down dont work, they dont pause, play, stop, fwd/rwd or launch the music player.
    Any ideas?

  • Music player on iphone not playing music?

    I have an iphone 3GS with the ios5 updates. Ever since the update, when I try to listen to my music, no sound plays. Volume is turned up compltely. Sounds for all other things working on the phone. The music player appears to be playing the song, but there is not a sound. Light blue "play" symbol appears in the right hand corner and the pause button is displayed as though the song is playing. I put the songs on using the "purchased" button in the itunes store and then downloading them to my phone. I also can't figure out how to delete the songs now that they are on there. I was going to get rid of them all and then start over manually from the computer. However, when I put the phone into the itunes on the computer, the songs no longer appear as they are on my phone, but they are there, taking up space and not working! Please help! I really dont want to have to reset the phone completely!

    Well it seems like that is your only option.  Before you restore, try restarting the phone and see if that does anything.
