Name Service Error in Red Hat 7.3

Hi, I developed a CORBA application and everything works fine while I use Windows NameService. When I try to use Red Hat 7.3 NameService I get this:
org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No
org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No

I'm using J2SDK 1.4.2 in both Win2000 and Red Hat 7.3. In linux tnameserv looks like it starts fine but when I want to use it from Windows I get the error.
Is there any problem with NameService included in J2SDK 1.4.2 or in Red Hat?
Thanks

The problem may have to do with setting up the /etc/hosts file in Linux.
You should not specify -ORBInitialHost for tnameserv,
it always uses the localhost for tnameserv.
Please include the following lines in the /etc/hosts file and see if it corrects the problem:"
127.0.0.1 localhost
<Static IP If Any> <HostName>
If this isn't the solution, the issue may have to do with setting the -ORBInitialPort property correctly for tnameserv (although we suggest that you use the naming service, orbd, which is new to J2SE 1.4.2 and includes an option for using a persistent naming service). If you do not specify otherwise, the Java IDL naming service listens on port 900 for the bootstrap protocol used to implement the ORB resolve_initial_references() and list_initial_references() methods, as follows:
tnameserv -ORBInitialPort nameserverport&
If you do not specify the name server port, port 900 is used by default. When running Solaris software (not sure about Linux), you must become root to start a process on a port under 1024. For this reason, we recommend that you use a port number greater than or equal to 1024. To specify a different port, for example, 1050, and to run the naming service in the background, from a UNIX command shell, enter:
tnameserv -ORBInitialPort 1050&
From an MS-DOS system prompt (Windows), enter:
start tnameserv -ORBInitialPort 1050
Clients of the name server must be made aware of the new port number. Do this by setting the org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort property to the new port number when creating the ORB object. For more information on using tnameserv in J2SE 1.4.2, see the doc at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/idl/tnameserv.html. If you'd like to consider using the newer version of the naming service, you can read about it at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/idl/orbd.html.

  • Oracle Installation errors on Red Hat AS 2.1

Hi, I've installed Oracle 9i on a Red Hat AS 2.1, but after the installation, when running the Database Configuration Assistant gave this error:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
I found an installation guide on http://www.puschitz.com and it recommends you, when this error comes up , to remove the shared memory segments owned by oracle, and i did so, it just couldn't remove on , which chmod was 777..after that i retry the Database configuration assistan and it failed again but telling me a different error happened:
    ORA-12571:TNS:Packet writer failure....
And i tried again and got the same error i got in the first place...and so on, and so on....
    What can i do????

    Hello everybody
I'm having the following error when trying to set up a 10g database on a Red Hat machine. I can start the listener correctly, but then the Enterprise Manager shows the following error in the 'Agent Connection to Instance' section:

  • Error connecting to Oracle on Red Hat 7.2 with WL 7.0

I able not able to connect to Oracle on Red Hat 7.2. I have tried both 9.0.1 and 9.2.0.
I am able to use a very similar configuration and W2k and it works.
    Here is the situation:
I have installed Weblogic 7.0.0.1 on Redhat 7.2. It works fine in generic form.
I have also installed Oracle 9.2.0 client files. I have verified connectivity with
a remote database using the Oracle tnsping tool. I have modified the startWLS.sh
file so that the oci901_8 libraries are used by Weblogic. I have added the following
    line to startWeblogic.sh:

    Hi David,
The driver for 9.2.0 is not yet out. You may want to use the thin driver.
You can also request this driver by filling a support case.

These are same values I used for the tnsping which does work.

  • Error Installing ERP2005 on Red Hat 4es Linux with Oracle  part II

    All,
After succeeding in fixing the 64bit issue I have another issue when wanting to install ERP2005 on Red Hat linux beeing:
    the following error message:

I do have my java home set and paths and display, but still this issue comes up
at first I had installed the SUN java version 1.4.2.13 but that did not work as well (and was a 32bits version, no 64bits found there for linux) so I deinstalled that one and installed the IBM java 64bit version for linux.
Hopefully someone knows a sollution, cause it is getting me bold.
    cheers

I have exacrtly the same problem. I am installing "10201_database_linux_x86_64" on Red Hat 3.0. The error I got, though, is more specific:

    ================================================================
I checked the missing library file: libclntsh.so.10.1 it is not in the folder. It seems to me that this file should come with Oracle installation software, and somehow it is not there, so it didn't get copied over to $ORACLE_HOME/lib, which cause this error.
Also, this error seems interesting too:
INFO: /app/oracle/10g/rdbms/lib/kpudfo.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
    Please help!
    Thanks.
