Naming workstations - setting host name

I would like to know if there is a way to set host names for multiple
computers once I re-image them with the same base image. I was thinking I
could create a bunch of reg keys something like "lab1-01", "lab1-02" etc.
and register computers in the lab as per their physical location.
It seems though that all their host names will remain the same as per the
original one of the base image. I then can not remote via the host name
unlike with Zen 7 when I could do that in ConsoleOne which did not rely on
host names I believe. So ideally I would like to have an easy way to
populate host names ( and maybe computer names, too ) during registration,
is that at all possible ?

I am pretty sure that ZCM 10 also has a policy or setting, which if I
remember is not enabled by default, which will rename the device names
if the workstation name changes.
Here it is ...
Configuration | Device Management | Registration
At the bottom is a section called "Device Dynamic Rename", with t a
checkbox for "Enable automatic renaming of devices". Here is what the
help file says:
Device Dynamic Rename
The Device Dynamic Rename panel lets you enable devices to be renamed,
if necessary, whenever they refresh their registration information. A
device might need to be renamed for the following reasons:
The naming template being applied to the device has changed.
A different naming template (for example, a folder naming
template rather than the Management Zone naming template) is now being
applied to the device.
Because a devices GUID and not its name is used for all relationships
with other ZENworks objects (folders, groups, bundles, policies, and so
forth), renaming the device does not affect anything other than the name
that is displayed in ZENworks Control Center.
You can define this setting at two levels:
Management Zone: The setting is inherited by all devices.
Device Folder: The setting is inherited by all devices contained
within the folder or its subfolders. Overrides the Management Zone setting.
NOTE:If you are configuring the setting on a device folder, you need to
click Override settings before you can modify the setting.

  • Setting host name for non-Apache webserver

http://www.appdal.com is a website in my Snow Leopard Server. And I have non-Apache webserver running http://appdal.com:8080/ . I want to give host name 'pier' chaing the web host name settings of this
But it is not working. What did I do something wrong?

i want to setup a hostname 'pier', so i can use url 'pier.appdal.com' instead of 'appdal.com:8080'.
Although the latter url works fine, but i don't want to foce my users to enter the :8080 .

  • Setting Host Name in setup

I just purchased OSX Server from the MAS.  I'm a rank beginner when it comes to networking and servers and hosts, so please bear with me.
One of the first steps in setting up the server asks me to name my host through (a) local network, (b) private network, or (c) Internet.  I understand the difference between local and internet but I'm not sure that I want to transfer a domain name I already own from my remote host to my local server.
In the future I'd like to host my own domain on my home Mac as it's a very low key site with very little usage.  I'd like to be able to set it up so users outside my home would have access to various parts over the Internet.
My question is:  If I initially set things up locally, is it possible to change it to Internet at a future date if I change my mind?
Bonus question:  Is there an Apple or 3rd party book or PDF available that goes into the setup and ongoing administration of OSX Server?  I don't like hopping back and forth from one local window to the online Apple documentation.
    Thanks friends,
    -Tod

    Never mind.

  • How to change host name and domain name in installed Cisco Meeting Place Express 2.0?

    Hi
I have  Cisco Meeting Place Express 2.0 installed on server. Meting Place uses Linux (Red Hat) as base operation system. Please tell me how I can change host name and domain name for Meeting Place Express application to integrate it into corporate domain infrastructure.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi
Thanks for your attention for my humble problem.
I have performed Meeting Place Express configuration through the “net” command.
But now unfortunately I can't connect to meeting place through web browser. I just get blank page.
Though I can reach the server with help of ssh. I think my DNS works properly because I can resolve the ip address of  cumpxvoice .uclab.com and cumpxweb. uclab.com with help of dig command.
    Have you any idea?
A lot of thanks in advance!!

Here I have printed the net configuration output of Cisco meeting Place Express:
    [root@cumpxvoice root]# net
This is the MeetingPlace Express network configuration utility.
Up to the point where you save changes, it is safe to hit ^C to get
out at any time, in which case nothing will have changed.

  • How can IC WebClient determine the host name for free seating?

    Hi,

To run a public VPN server, you need to do the following:
    1. Give the gateway either a static external address or a dynamic DNS name. The latter must be a DNS record on a public DNS registrar, not on the server itself. Also in the latter case, you must run a background process to keep the DNS record up to date when your IP address changes.
    2. Give the VPN server a static address on the local network.
    3. Forward external UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 (for L2TP) and TCP port 1723 (for PPTP) to the corresponding ports on the VPN server.
    4. Configure any firewall in use to pass this traffic.

  • Set up Named Based Virtual Hosting on 10.4 Server

First, sorry for the stupid question. I've read through Apple's WebTechnologies_Adminv10.4/10.5 manuals and still don't feel like I have a clear answer to this question.
I am trying to set up named based Virtual Hosting on an Xserve running 10.4. I have read a lot of instructions on the web on setting up named based virtual hosting on Mac 10.4/5 Client computers by manually adjusting the host and httpd.conf files and I'm confused as to whether I need to do this in 10.4 Server as well. I have successfully set up virtual hosting on a client computer and it works but I can't get it to work on 10.4 server. I have set up two sites in Server Admin with two site folders in /library/webserver/documents but no luck. Do I need to do what I did in the files above on the server to get it to work or should it work by just creating seperate sites in Server Admin? What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

You can do this entirely in Server Admin - no need to edit the config files directly.
You just need to create each site in Server Admin -> (server) -> Web -> Sites
For each set you need to specify the hostname for the site in each site's Domain Name field.
As long as each site has a unique name (and that name maps to your server's IP address) that's all there is to it.

I changed my DNS provider due to poor performance. Since then I have been trying to change the host name and it stays with the original.  Do I have to rest teh home hub back to default settings and set it up again?

  • How to set dynamic host name in the URL of a URL iView?

    Hello,
I am using a standard URL iView that points to some J2EE app I've written and deployed on the same server.
I would like to set the host name to be a dynamic one, this way I won't need to change the iView URL when transporting it from one portal to another. As far as I know the system for a URL iView only controls authorizations but cannot replace the full URL set in the iView.
Any idea who can this be achieved?
    Roy

    Hi Mrityunjay,
forced URL at runtime will require me to call the URL iView from another iView that I will need to code (setting the URL in the Request object). If I did all this I might as well call it from this iView already.
I would like to do it with no further developments. I would have thought that SAP has constants that can be plugged in the URL for this type of thing, i.e. $hostname...

  • What is "Host name" in setting up mail accounts

I can't seem to send a message. I keep getting an error message that the connection to the outgoing server failed.
My Incoming Mail Server is "pop-server.tampabay.rr.com" is set up correctly, but
My Outgoing mail is "smtp-server.tampabay.rr.com" and this asks for a "Host Name"
What do I put in for the Host name? There is no hyphen available to set this up as "smtp-server....".
It shows an example of "smtp.example.com", but I don't have anything that is "smtp.tampabay.rr.com". So what do I use?
    thanks

When your typing in the smpt-server click on the icon in the lower left bottom that looks like (@123). This will take you to the alternate key board so that you can enter in the - that you are looking for.

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to replicate BP  from CRM to R/3.All the Mappings from CRM to R/3 are already maintained. Also I have created the subscriptions and publications for R/3 in Admin Console. All the RFC Connections are working correctly. When I checked the SMQ1 in CRM I got the following error:
Set by Host Name: CRMDEV;Transaction R3AS:Report:SMOF_DOWNLOAD.
Can anyone guide me how to solve this issue?
    Thanks.
    Sudhan

    Hi All,
    Solved this issue myself.
Basically no need to worry about this queue message.
    1) I done set the filter for EQUIPMENT in t-code R3AC1
    2) Customer Relationship Management --> Master Data --> Installed Base --> Replication of technical objects from SAP ERP --> define default setting for Replication or equipment.
Site name - ERP logical system name
    IBase Category - EQ
    Obj.Family - 0401
Category ID - MAT_Z401 (Important note is this category is created under R3PRODSTYP hierarchy, under MAT_ category). Equipments in ERP also should create using this Category, then only the equipments will be downloaded)
    Delta down load checked
    3) Go to R3AS and select load object as EQUIPMENT and start
    4) you can see the IBASE in CRM using IB53 or using the webUI search.
    Thank you and Regards,
    Niranjan

  • Setting the name of a Workstation

    Hello,
I am currently playing around with Java and Bluetooth, is it possible to set the name of the computer workstation so when the dongle is connecting to a device it does not show the actual name of the workstation.
    Cheers
    Mark

    Using:
    var this[newTxt]:TextField = new TextField()
    is the right approach.
You can either incrment an instance variable so that the name
    is unique:
    newTxt = "MyName" + _globalCounter;
    var this[newTxt]:TextField = new TextField();
    globalCounter ++;
Or store the references in an array:
    _globalArray.push(new TextField());

I have an email account through yahoo. I am having trouble setting it upon my iPhone and can't receive or send emails!!!! I contacted Rogers and they said I need to find out the host name of the incoming server, in other words yahoos host name. Help!!

Yahoo's servers are notoriously unreliable. Use the "Yahoo" account type when setting it up. If it doesn't work, and you are positive the credentials are correct, wait a while and try again.
While you're waiting, set up a free gmail or iCloud email account.

I would recommend carefully reading Pondini's guide on using Migration Assitant, if you still have trouble you have 90 days of free telephone support from Apple via AppleCare. While they are more versed in OS X than MS Windows they may be able to help you. Pondini's guide is found by clicking Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips

  • VM Creation - host name not set

    Hi,
I'm creating vm using createVmTemplate api where i assign the hostname in NICConfig
But i see that the given hostname is not set in the vm.
Default hosname - "localhost.localdomain" is seen in the vm.
    how to resolve this

Sure is, but it will involve some commandline work. First, you're going to need to install the SDK. You only need the Novacom part of the SDK, but AFAIK there's no seperate download for Windows... you have to get the whole thing. The SDK is available here: https://developer.palm.com/content/resources/develop/sdk_pdk_download.html
Next, you're going to need to enable Developer mode on your TouchPad, here's how to do that:
Start a Just Type search and enter webos20090606
A Developer Mode icon will display, tap it
Tap the toggle switch to turn it On
Leave the password blank and tap Sumbit
    Close the Developer Mode app
Now, connect your TouchPad to your computer. Next, you're going to find a file called Novaterm.bat. It's buried in the install directory of the SDK. I don't remember the exact path (I don't use Windows anymore) but it's something like C:\Program Files\Palm SDK\Current\bin (keep digging around for bin folders in the C:\Program Files\Palm SDK path and you'll find it eventually). Doubleclick that to start a nice little terminal app. Choose your TouchPad from the drop down list and click connect.
Now, time for some command line stuff. Run the following commands in the terminal:
    mount -o remount,rw /
    cd /etc/dhcp
    vi dhclient.conf
Press the I key on your keyboard to go into edit mode (this is a Vi specific thing)
    Remove the # at the beginning of line 14 and change the andare.fugue.com inside the quotes to whatever you want your TouchPad reporting as. For example: #send host-name "andare.fugue.com"; would become send host-name "RidiusTouchPad";
To save your changes, hit the ESC key (to exit edit mode), then type :wq and hit enter. Note there is a colon in there. Again, this is Vi specific stuff.
    sync
    mount -o remount,ro /
Once you've done this, disable and re-enable your Wi-Fi and your TouchPad should be reporting a hostname. Kind of a lot of work if you ask me (unless you already have the SDK installed).
