2nd gen nano plays music but screen is blank?

This problem usually occurs when the iPod is interupted during the update or restore process.
Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode...

Nano: Blank Screen, won't recharge, isn't recognized by my PC...HELP!!!

My nano is completely discharged. The screen is blank no matter what I do (tried resetting, toggling hold switch, all that jazz). Tried to recharge it, but my PC doesn't recognize it for some reason. It dosen't even recognize that the USB port is in use... guess that's 'cause the nano needs to have some power left to tell the PC that it's there. Anyway, been plugged in to PC since I got home from school at 2:20 p.m. and still nothing. I WANT MY MUSIC BACK, BADLY! Am I going to have to send it to Apple and have them replace it? I'm well withing the warranty period, so I know that if it's broken they will defeinetly fix it, but that could take weeks, and if it turns out that is really isn't broken, and I that I could've fixed it, that would suck. Nevermind. I restarted my PC and, after about a minute or so, my PC recognized it and my iPod is now charging. Thank the Lord! I seriously thought it was broken or something. Anyway, anyone having similar problems, if you've tried everything thing else like me (read all topics, tried troubleshooting) and nothing else works, try this if you haven't already. If restarting the PC doesn't work, than the iPod very well may need to be serviced.

Nano's frozen, blank screen comes on

My ipod nano wants to turn on but doesn't, the screen will light up and be blank. I tried holding the middle button and menu = nothing. I can see everything when it's connected to the computer. Anyone know any secrets to this problemo?

I now found out my son dropped the nano into a puddle, so it got wet. Tried to let it dry for about 2 weekes now and the ipod itself actually works, you just have to guess where the songs are as the screen lights up but is still blank, no anything but a blank screen. Any ideas on this type of situation?

This has the best chance of fixing your issue if its not hardware related. If it does not fix it then you may want to consider setting the ipod up for service:

Or you can call Apple and have them set it up for you. Have your serial number ready.

IPod nano 4gb boots up to blank screen

ok this one is really weird. first of all you must know that i can't turn on my ipod on normally any more. i have to reset it instead of just pressing any button. but that's not the main problem. when i turn it on that way, there's no logo shown and then this whitely-glowing blank screen appears. it's just blank. and the funny thing is that i can still listen to the music. basicly nano works normally except for the screen- there's just nothin' on it.
i've tried restoring it and all that, but the screen is still blank. it's an ipod nano 1st gen, software 1.2, itunes 7.0.1.8
oh there's another funny thing. when i tried to restore it i tunes didn't ask if which version they should restore my ipod to.
any ideas?

Is your iPod recognized by iTunes? What happens when you try and restore it? Does the restore process not begin? Or does it complete and the iPod still shows that screen? Does iTunes say it is done restoring?

my ipod nano has blank screen and will not show anything. I`ve tried to restore it but when i plug it into my computer it says that i didn`t plug it in. I`ve tried to call apple and ask what was going on, but every time i call it either get`s me a machine or it`ll keep ringing and ringing. I`ve tried to write, but no one has wrote me back. I had my ipod nano since November 17, 2005 and I still haven`t used it, can anyone help? I also tried to take it to electronic stores, but their services to help cost more than what I paid for my ipod, Please help!!

You could try the 5r's, and disk mode.
Or you could call Apple 1-800-275-2273, I think there hours are 9-9 EST Mon_fri.
If you've had it a year I would call them and tell them it's not working and get the Apple Care.

My nano lights up a blank screen, but no menu

when i turn on my nano, the screen lights up, but no menu, etc. shows up. i have to turn it off then it works...i've also tried restoring it. any suggestions?

If it's an iPod touch, try a reset.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, whether it's an iPod nano or touch, it probably needs service > Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

Ipod turned off mid song - blank screen and wont restart

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano - used quite regularly but it has not sustained any known damages (not been in contact with water - not been dropped). I updated my ipod today - bought 9 songs and they synced in no problems. I was listening to the ipod in a doc for about an hour and then during one song the ipod suddenly cut out mid song and I cannot get it going again since.
The ipod has a fully blank screen - totally black.
I have gone through the steps via ipod - pressing inner circle and menue keys at same time. I have connected the ipod to the computer. I have re-started my computer - nothing...still blank black screen.
I tried contacting tech support via apple but it won't recognise my serial number! Its an authentic ipod - bought in an electronic shop.
The serial number is on both the origonal packaging and the ipod - but is not recognised by apple.
I am so upset - don't know where to go from here! I have years worth of music on this ipod which I am very worried about losing..and cannot really afford to dish out for a new nano right now.
Any suggestions for me?

New Install - startx results in blank screen with mouse cursor

I installed Arch on my desktop last week with no issues, so I wanted to install it on an old THinkpad R31. Everything with the installation went smooth, but when I try to 'startx' all I get is a blank screen with a mouse cursor that I can move around. I've installed xorg-xinit, xorg-twm, xorg-xclock, and xterm.
I'm not getting any significant errors in the logs, or even the terminal I issue 'startx' in.
I'm not sure what the problem could be...

I do indeed.
I went ahead and installed LXDE anyways, just to see what would happen. Exact same thing, it looks like everything is about to load but only the mouse cursor shows up. My Xorg.0.log is the same, so I won't post it again.
I do get an error in the console about the openbox menu.xml file missing but I doubt that's related.
