NanoKontrol. Logic, setting up CCs

i just got a NanoKontrol, it was cheap, but maybe that was the mistake...
Anyway, it seems to work, as far as factory settings go.
Now I am in the Nano Kontrol editor and I set a knob to a specific CC that I want to be able to record. After sending the new settings and scene to the Nano, I start Logic. The knob refuses to do the assigned action, instead it is still in factory mode (Even after rebooting, blabla).
How do you set up individual CCs for the NanoKontrol and how can you set it up to where it is not for a specific channel strip, but so that one knob influences a specific CC in any software instrument channel strip that I have selected?
I'd be very grateful for some help. But don't even start with the environment without step by babystep...

if i understand this right, i can uninstall the plugin and just assign my settings in the kontrol editor and then logic will follow those?
So you are using the plugin? Yes, if you want to assign things manually, remove the plugin.
how does logic know that there is a usb device that wants to send cc messages?
Because the system still knows there is a USB midi device there and will receive incoming MIDI from it. This is nothing to do with Logic's specific programming for a particular type of control surface, which is what the plugin provides.
i played around with the controller assignment window in logic. it is a total mes. nothing works, the assignments and values go all over the place and most settings in there sound cryptic and i simply cannot figure out how to work this.
Remove the plugin. Start Logic. Open up, say a plugin. Press command-L to enter learn mode. Twidle a plugin parameter. Move the CC knob. Command-L to leave learn mode when you've assigned what you want. Very simple.
Occasionaly you might need to tweak how a knob is interpreted in the control assignments window, but other than that it should be fairly automatic.
i need something that says "i use fader number x" and want to influence "cc x on current active channels strip".
Easy enough, set the type to current strip, the parameter you are controlling is displayed there.
but instead there is nonsense like "B0 01 Lo7" and the like...
That's just showing you the exact MIDI message that was learnt - ie the one sent from your controller. This is useful info.
I rather not touch that window at all.
Command-L, no controller assignments window necessary.
I would love to set everything in the kontrol editor, make logic recognize this as a device without the need of tweaking it again...
You can only set what CC's the nano sends in the editor. To actually make those CC's do something in Logic, you have to tell Logic what you want them to do - you do that via the controller assignments.
If you don't want to deal with all this learning commands hassle, either stick to the default handling the plugin gives you, or get a proper control surface like a Mackie Control or Euphonix Artist.
Otherwise, with all these small generic knob boxes, you have to assign things to make it do what you want. It's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid.

  • Logic set up assistant, where is it in logic 8

where is logic set up assistant in logic 8, it was in logic 7, and i found it usefull, where can i find it in logic 8 ?, please help, thanks

    Hi there,
It doesn't exist any more. Although it might have helped with setting up MIDI devices, it never really pressed my buttons for that. The only real use for me was in automatically creating the environment and arrange page the way I wanted it.
in Logic 8, you can create new tracks and Logic will automatically create them in the Environment for you. That was a neat way of solving the problem. Other things such as MIDI instruments was a bit facile and pretty much any MIDI instrument plays straight away nowadays. Likewise selecting I/Os, mono/stereo and so on are pretty easy to do and the default setup for Logic is clever enough not to leave you stranded.
However, I agree that there are many, many things that you might want to set in Logic both at the program level and at the song level. However, Apple seem to have taken the view that a setup wizard to ask about all the settings in Preferences and Song Settings would be madness and the average newbie wouldn't understand many of them in any case.
What part of the Setup Assistant would you like to see in place?

  • Help with Logic Sets

    Hi guys,
We have a requirement for writing a logic set.
    The requirement is as follows-
    1. A metric Set gets data at a frequency of 4 months cycle (data is input in July, November and March).
    2. The user will enter the Current data corresponding to these 3 months only.
    3. The client needs the data entered for these months (July, Nov, Mar) to be copied to the remaining 3 months in the cycle.
Can this be done using Logic Set? Can you please advise on how should we proceed with this requirement.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Sameer

    Hi,
Logic sets are very useful for various calculations.  They can be used when importing data to create "new columns" of data based on calculations of other data - and they can also be used at run-time as virtual variables.  I'm not suggesting that this is a good use of the later - but I wanted to answer your question and help folks understand how to use Logics.  (There may be better/more performant ways of accomplishing the same thing, such as making the variable a LAST or RATE variable.)    However, if you want to become familiar with the use and power of LOGICS, here is an examples below to get you started:
I'm using the HFPBM sample database as a starting point.
Create a file in your Home directory (C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Strategy Management\ApplicationServer\home) called BYPEg.txt.  Add the info at the bottom of this post.
In PasAdmin, IDQL, run the commands:
    use HFPBM excl
    job BYPEg.txt;ext
This example creates a logic (BYPeg) to perform some calculation, then defines a virtual variable called foo_index using that logic to selects only values that are below some threshold of UNITS_SOLD_CUST_TARDEV.
    remo logic BYPEg
    ...Copy Logic Terminal BYPEg
    OUTPUT temp.txt;ext over
    echo input testvar
    echo input thrshld
    echo result rslt
    echo SCALAR HoldVal
    echo BYPERIOD
    ...echo TEXT "Looping..."
    echo WHEN testvar LT thrshld
    echo     HoldVal = testvar
    echo ENDWHEN
    echo rslt = HoldVal
    ...echo DISPLAY UNITS_SOLD_CUST_TARDEV, HoldVal
    echo ENDBYPERIOD
    OUTPUT OFF
    COPY LOGIC temp.txt;ext BYPEg over
    Compile Logic BYPEg
    remo var foo_index
cre var foo_index "Foo Index" by customer, product, store as BYPEg(UNITS_SOLD_CUST_TARDEV,1)
    sel var foo_index
    sel var plus UNITS_SOLD_CUST_TARDEV
    acro var down time

  • Roland MC500 into logic - setting tempo for imported midi data

My mate has an Roland MC500, where he's programmed multi-tracked midi info for songs etc, and we've sussed how to import the channels into separate regions in logic.
We've set the tempo as per the tempo on the MC500, but after importing the track, after a certain length of time the tempo goes out of sync. All the midi data has come across, and when assigning soft-synths etc it plays fine, but just moves out of tempo.
Is there a way that, when you have imported midi data in this way, you can ask logic to confirm/set the tempo?
I've had a read thru the manuals etc, but may have missed where it describes that bit?
    Thanks for any advice.
    andy

    yes...
you need to set the MC500 to send the MMC over its MIDI outs... than in Logic you must set th sync "Blue button"
the picture shows MTC but if you scroll down the menu you will find MMC settings... that must be turned ON on Logic settings Synchronization.
Logic must be setted as Slave... because Roland device is the slower one!

  • Enhancement /User Exit for logic setting call date / Horizon

Due toe planning in IP10 we have a horizon set by the system for (eks.) 80%. This is working OK for small planning intervals (i.e. up to 24 mth intervals).
However when intarval exceeds this limit we will set the call date to be maximum 30 days (for instance) ahead of the sceduled start date of the order.
Thus we need a user-defined way to manipulate / set the call date by a user exit (logic in ABAP - or by IMG settings if possible) that differs from the standard SAP setting for this date.
The question is then how we - in best practice -  can do so.

  • What to buy for the pro Logic set up

Here is the question I am new to working with computers to create music however I am a professional composer (meaning this is what I do for a living) I need advice on what I need to get started from nothing.
    1. what computer do I need to use Logic and make it work to its fullest.
    3. is there any other hardware or soft ware I need besides just the computer and Locic to make it work.
    2. I sometimes compose up to 60 different tracks at a time. I recently was working on a friends computer(G5 with logic pro) and it sometimes could not play all the tracks.
    3. most of the work I am getting into is creating soundtracks for cartoons and movies. I need a set up to help me compose. any suggestions would help.

Well the basics are computer, extra RAM, software (logic), audio interface, MIDI interface, external hard drive, and monitors (speakers).
The rest depends on how you compose and record. If you use lots of samples and soft synths then you'll need the external hard drive and extra RAM to store and run them. You can never have too much RAM. The fastest drives are SCSI drives but they are much more expensive than Firewire. I do notice a difference in response time but for me it's workable. The faster the drive spins, the faster it spits out your samples to the computer. You may also want to use this drive to record to.
If you use sounds from MIDI keyboards or racks you may use less RAM but you'll need a beefier MIDI interface. Since you're doing film stuff one that can stripe SMPTE and sync is a plus. I only use a Roland JV2080 for MIDI so the single MIDI port on my DIGI002 is plenty.
If you're mainly composing traditional orchestral scores then it may not be necessary to get the most super fast computer, especially if you have budget restrictions. For me, most of the need for the processing power comes from running plug-ins, like reverbs, or effects like vocoders, and that may not be stylistically appropriate for your music leaving you with processing room to spare. Although higher track counts use plenty of processor power too. Always go with the fastest computer you can afford.
Just my two cents. Good luck.

  • New to mac/logic - set up question

Getting ready to install Logic on new iMac, I've been told to wait to install until I have my interface (MBox Pro) - and it's on order. I'm trying to determine what I may need to do as far as prepping for it. I've been reading about turning "disk journaling" off when recording. I found that in the disk utility, but it is grayed out. Do I need to reformat my drive or something?
My initial idea was to record internally, and back up to an ext. drive, but after poking around these forums I am considering getting an ext. drive to record to. So am I correct that if I run a firewire 800 drive next to the computer, and daisy chain the Mbox to that (which runs at FW 400), I won't have performance issues? Or should I consider a FW hub (which for FW800 are few)? Looking at a Glyph 7200RPM drive for this.
Any other "first timer" tips or links appreciated.
    Thanks.

No reason to wait for the interface - you can use the built in audio of the Mac until then.

It is greyed out when you select the DRIVE in disk utility. Note that on this disk journaling is disabled already.
When you select the Volume (=the 'desktop-name' of your disk) it should be available.

Mbox is Digidesign, right? In that case I will not guarantee anything - but yes, it should all work well nevertheless.
Or should I consider a FW hub (which for FW800 are few)? Looking at a Glyph 7200RPM drive for this.
Don't use a hub. I believe that FW is all on one bus, so even if you have two ports all will adapt to the slowest thing attached. I don't think a hub will change that.

  • Help with Logic Set Up - Loops and samples

    Hi all
I am a new Logic user so apologies if this question is very newbie...
I am just installing and setting up my program. I installed the full Logic with all the included sample content on my boot drive. Subsequently I bought a drive that I want to be a dedicated drive for sample libraries.
My question is, how do I locate all the sample content and Apple Jam Pack content that Logic has already installed in order to move it to the new drive, and how do I make Logic aware of the new location of the libraries?
If it weren't an eight hour install, I might just run the installer again, but hoping there would be an easier way.
    Thanks!!

There is no need to uncheck remote and testing. Previewing locally should work exactly the same as it did in CS3.
Are you using a server-side language? If so, expand the Files panel by clicking this icon:
Then make sure that the Testing Server icon is selected.

  • Logic Set Up Help

Hi I have just got a new imac 2.66ghz intel and have installed logic 7. I previously had it set up on my 2.4ghz and had it running fine. I run a turntable and a cd player through a mixer and into the mac through the input with it coming from the output to an external amp and speakers. The problem i am having is when i go into logic i can hear loop browser but cant hear the sound from the turntable, When i try to record it picks up through the built in mic.
I know i have set it up before but im stuck to as what i need to do now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Logic Setting or Blown Avalon

I have a 737 new only about 6months old. Everythings wired right..
I get half the wave form (top only) when recording a bass or guitar...checked the cables(fine)... Could it be a setting in Logic or the Avalon ? thank you

wierd...it's not that. it's for sure a mono channel. imput 6. The fader is mono. It's all worked before..I figure if the avalon has blown it would not get a partial signal...I could be wrong. any other guesses. thanks for your time.

  • I just want to create music without this hassle! I use to love my Logic set

REALLY hate to bother you guys! I have been away from my home studio for a bit and have fallen out of the "loop" so to speak. I have a G5 dual 1.8 GHZ with 1.5 GB DDR Ram and I'm running Tiger 10.4.7
Ok so here's my issue: When I start to record an Audio instrument I have the click track to start a four click lead and I know I start on time, but the first note doesn't play out on play back. Now if the line I play is looped ... the first not plays on the re- up and then after. So I know the note has been captured. Why would this happen? I don't loop all the tracks I play so I'm a bit frustrated about that. So again... I choose an audio instrument. I hit record... wait for the count in and proceed to play on the one. I go back to the beginning of the track to listen back. And the first note played does not sound. Now I see it in notation and when I loop the part. When the loop comes back around the second time the first note sounds? HELP! I want to create music again, but not like this...

Yes, Logic captured it but will not playback a note that starts before 1.1.1.1
either slide the start position back to 0.1.1.1 or begin recording on 2.1.1.1.
Because it was captured, when you loop, the 2nd play of the loop is after 1.1.1.1 so sounds.

  • Bpc : problem with batch logic setting

    Hi,
I am using bpc 7.0 MS version 7.0.112.
i am trying to run a customized DM package. in test6.lgf, i have the following codes (thanks to Tim):
    *SELECT(%UsersChoiceTimeID%,[TimeID],[TIME],"[ID]='%TIME_SET%'")
    *SELECT(%UsersChoiceYEAR%,[Year],[TIME],"[ID]='%TIME_SET%'")
    *XDIM_MEMBERSET TIME = %UsersChoiceYEAR%.JAN,%UsersChoiceYEAR%.DEC
    *xdim_memberset account=extsales
    *CALC_EACH_PERIOD
    *When TIME.TIMEID
    *IS < %UsersChoiceTimeID%
      *rec(factor=2,account="icsales")
    *IS %UsersChoiceTimeID%
      *rec(factor=3,account="icsales")
    *IS > %UsersChoiceTimeID%
      *rec(factor=4,account="icsales")
    *ENDWHEN
when i tried to VALIDATE and SAVE the above lgf, i got the error message "invalid object name 'mbr'. in select [TIMEID] from mbr[TIME] where [ID]='%TIME_SET%'
hence i just SAVED this test6.lgf.
then i created a customized DM package using the normal method, and have it pointing at test6.lgf, when i tried to run this package, i got an error "invalid object name 'mbr'. in select [TIMEID] from mbr[TIME] where [ID]='june.2005'
do note that i entered category:actual, entity:salesfrance, time:2005.june when prompted.
in my input schedule, i have previously entered values for category:actual, entity:salesfrance, time:2005.jan - 2005.dec
any idea how i can rectify this? i am trying to simulate a situation where *select can only be validated and run using a DM package.
      thanks in advance

    Thanks for the response, JettR.
You have correctly described the problem I'm having.  Let me clarify a couple points.  As it turns out, it doesn't seem to matter whether I enter and exit the synchronized section using the batch sync steps or if I set the properties of the individual steps to run in "one-thread-only" mode.  It also doesn't seem to matter whether I've assigned names to the synchronized sections or not.  One other thing - it doesn't matter if an error occurred - the problem is an execution terminating...  I typically terminate an execution (continue to clean-up) if an error occurs, but this can also be reproduced by manually terminating the execution.  Also, the problem is more than just the terminated execution running the synchronized section before the other executions are ready - the section is actually executed twice.  (Once by the terminated execution, and once by the next execution in line.)
In short, I seems like one potential work-around would be to add some additional code to jump past the cleanup sync section if 1) the execution is terminating and 2) it isn't the only execution running.  But it seems like there should be a better way than that.
I've attached a simple sequence that can be used to reproduce the problem.  If you run it without terminating any threads, everything will behave as expected.  But if you terminate an execution while in the delay in the Main step group, you should see the one-thread-only synchronized step in the cleanup group (a TestStand dialog) get displayed twice.
Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks.

  • How can I set up a sustain pedal in Logic 9?

I have scoured the forums and Logic Help pages for anything that can help me hook up my sustain pedal in Logic.
I have a Korg Kontrol49 midi keyboard with two pedals hooked up to it; a "Switch" and "Pedal". In all my previous programs, such as Reason 4 and Cubase 5, the "Switch"-pedal worked as my sustain. I never had to configure it because the program automatically figured that out as the sustain is usually set to Control #64.
But not in Logic - I never get a sustain on any of my Instruments using either of my pedals. I have clicked on and off on #Control #64 off (sustain)" in Midi Preferences to no avail. Nor I cant find any liturature that lends me a hand in guiding me how to set it up.
Can anyone out there assist me with this?
    Thanks-a-million

Im all for the dumb questions, because its probably a dumb mistake I did.
I have checked that both sus ped and exp. ped are fully plugged in.
Neither pedals show up in the Midi meter in the transport.
I dont know how to set a patch for the keyboard, but if both pedals work in other programs (i.e. Reason), wouldn't it not be an issue with a Logic configuration and not in the keyboard's setting? (Unless I have a separate Logic setting that loads automatically when it detects Logic is booted. I dont know how that would work though.)
Thank you for your prompt help, though. Any other ideas?

  • Using ReDrum In Logic 8??

Hi, I'm very new to both Logic and Reason but the main problem I am having at the moment is getting my drum tracks created in reason over to my logic tracks.
The first way that I tried, which was successful but time consuming, was to open logic and reason independently of each other, create the drum patterns i needed then export them one at a time (eg. Bass Drum, Snare etc.) then import them as wav files into logic to place on my timeline, as you can see this is time consuming, not to mention space consuming.
The next step I tired using ReWire was to set up an aux channel so I could hear the drums playing in logic, then lay out my patterns in reason. This is where I've become stuck, I now need a way of transferring those drums into logic.
Ideally the way i would like to do it is to have individual channels in logic set up for each re drum sound (bass drum, snare etc.) but still be able to lay my drum patterns out in reasons page initially as i find the process of drawing in the patterns in reason very quick and efficient, but in the long run i want to have all my drums in logic and be able to use logics effects on each drum sound.
I'd appreciate any help people could give me as I'm quite stuck and haven't been able to find anything online as of yet
Thanks So Much for reading, much appreciated
    Thom

I think i understand your problem. Although you can assign rewire inputs to aux strips, you can't record to them directly. you need to send each aux strip that you want to record to an audio channel. then you may record.
    step by step:
    1. open logic
    2. open reason
    3. in reason, cable the individual channels directly from redrum to the hardware device, starting with 3/4 (dont use 1/2)
    4. In logic, create new aux strips for each of the individual redrum instruments, and change the input from 1-2 to the appropriate reason rw selection. MAKE SURE YOU NAME YOUR STRIPS AT THIS POINT- it makes the next step less confusing.
    5. Set the output of each of the aux strips to a separate BUS. (this creates a new, superfluous aux strip every time- so try not to get confused with all the clutter-that's why it's best to name the originals as stated above)
    5. Now create new audio tracks in the arrange window for each aux strip that you configured earlier, and change each strips' input to the corresponding BUS from your rewire aux strips.
You are done. Now when you record, each instrument channel from your redrum will record to it's own audio track in logic. Sounds complicated- but after you do it a few times it makes sense, to a degree :P
I understand Redrum is very straightforward and fast, but i would seriously consider learning to use Ultrabeat or Battery for your drum sequencing. The problem with the above method is that if you decide to change your beats, or replace a kickdrum, you will have to re-record from redrum all over again, as the rewire record process has left you with only audio files. Ultrabeat has a very easy to use pattern sequencer built in, and it's far more powerful than Redrum. Battery is a whole 'nother beast, but either plugin will allow you to program drums directly in logic, which is a huge workflow improvement.

  • How can I set up a database program for inputing baseball team statistics that is compatible with numbers?

I have been asked to be a statistician bar and athletic team. We are playing Dartball, a game of darts that is based on baseball.  The previous status station used Apple works which included a database manager that was compatible with numbers. I have checked with the Apple geniuses online for my MacBook Pro and they did not have an answer to my problem. Is there a program that can be used on my MacBook Pro that will keep up with statistics for eight baseball team?
