Need Advice 2 computers with 3g setup

Morning all just wanted to see what I should do with getting the same data on both computers. My MacPro is in NY waiting for me to do a big shooting job and has not been updated to 7.7 Itunes but I did but the Iphone 3g from the original version and everything is rigged up to my MacBook Pro right now. I get to NY tomorrow and that is my main computer so I want to normally use the MacPro for the Iphone. Question I have what is the bet way to get this done. I would think update to the new Version 7.7 first than do a synce so all that correct data from Mobile me gets on the MacPro. Than do i setup the 3g as a new phone or what should I be doing here.
Or my other thought and not sure this would work is go to my user folder take the Itunes from the MacBook Pro and replace the MacPro with it, will the updates be there and the Iphone backup stuff.
Any help would be appreciated but what is the proper way of doing this.

In my view, the extra money for 7% (or whatever it is) extra performance isn't really worth it. Obviously, if you want the fastest you can get, then go for the more expensive one.
The VRAM really doesn't mean much unless you are using your computer for games (or perhaps some hardcore graphics stuff like Motion which will benefit from it). Regular applications won't benefit at all from the extra VRAM, and the 2.2 will drive big monitors quite happily.
I actually went to the Apple Store last week and played with one of the new MBP's, and in doing the research I was set on a matte screen, now I'm not so sure - it was nice graphically with the glossy. I'll make that decision when I have to...
It was funny watching people all crowding round the MBP's - most people were running Safari, iTunes and stuff, and there's me loading up and creating with Logic, then FCP, then Shake, then Colour, then Motion, all the hard core apps - I think they thought I was some kind of professional or something...
I will be getting a 2.2 when the issues and the component shortages are sorted out...

  • Need advice on Mac-based work setup

Hi, hoping for some advice on the best Mac-based system to purchase for our 6 design workstations. We are jumping from CS5 to CC. We do GFX for multiple tv stations, motion GFX, compositing, 3D, editing, print design. SPEED is important and we only buy new computers every 4 years or so. Typical workflow has the following open simultaneously: AE, PR or FCP, PS, ID, AI, Firefox, Outlook, and maybe also Word or Text Edit or Quicktime. We do short but complex stuff, 60 seconds tops.
We’ve got one test system set up so far. These are the specs of our test system; putting all projects and assets on the thunderbolt RAID:
    Mac Pro 10.9.2      3.7 Ghz Quad-Core    Intel Xeon E5      12 Gig DDR3
30 Inch Apple Cinema Display Display  2560 X 1600    AMD FirePro 2048 MB Graphics
HDMI to DVI converter for 2008 Apple Studio Display
Drive: Areca 5026 RAID-ed RAID 5    each slot has a 1TB    Toshiba 7200 RPM 32MB cache SATA 6.0GB/s drive, connected by thunderbolt 2.0
Blackmagic card: UltraStudio 3D thunderbolt device running the 9.6.7 Black magic drivers, connected thunderbolt 2.0
    Panasonic HD pro tv monitor
PROBLEM: with this setup we’re disappointed in both rendering and render to RAM speed, and RAM preview at full res is dropping frames on some projects. Turning on multiprocessing does not make it any faster, and won’t render at all in certain codecs (like DV50). I have 12GB of RAM, and reserved 3GB for other applications. With multiprocessing on I have 8 CPUs, leaving 2 for other applications, reserving 2GB per CPU.
Designers render locally on their own Macs while multi-tasking on print projects, run web browsers, outlook etc.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. What is the best fastest system AE can take advantage of? If we get 6 or 8 or 12 core Mac Pros (instead of the quad core) with more RAM, would AE be able to access that speed, and if so up to how many GB can it use, only up to 2GB per core or can it use more?
    2. Should we replace the graphics card with an Nvidia CUDA? Is the ray-tracing engine something we’ll need with Cinema 4D work?
    Thank you!

Yes, After Effects will take advantage of multiple fast CPUs and all of the RAM that you can install.
You also want to have a decent-sized SSD connected over a fast bus for the disk cache. The new Mac Pro does very well in that regard.
    2. Should we replace the graphics card with an Nvidia CUDA? Is the ray-tracing engine something we’ll need with Cinema 4D work?
The After Effects ray-traced 3D renderer has nothing whatsoever to do with Cinema 4D.
Do not make any buying decisions based on the  After Effects ray-traced 3D renderer unless you already know for certain that you have a need for it. Since you're asking, it seems that the answer is that you don't.

  • Frustrated - Multiple issues with Fios TV/DVR - need advice on dealing with tech support

I have been a Verizon Fios customer since Feb. 20th (all of two and a half weeks).  I signed up for my bundle on-line around 11am on the 20th, and had a technician out for install within a few hours on the SAME day.  I thought that was impressive - and I was looking forward to having a more reliable and fast internet connection than I had been experiencing with Brighthouse.
The technician who installed was very friendly, and although he had some issues (apparently, there was a Verizon box in this house before us, but someone ripped it off the wall, so they had to run new wire all the way out to the street) the install went pretty quickly and smoothly.
The first few days went along without a problem, and the internet was great.  Some of the functionality of the DVR was less than I'd hoped for, but some of the other features were great.  I had a glitch trying to set up my online account, but I used the online chat feature to work with tech support and she was able to correct the issue.  We noticed a couple times in the evenings that the TV would pixelate - but it only happened a few times and was very brief.
On Sunday the 26th, our real issues started.  The live TV started freezing, then having a liquid-like pixelation problem, sometimes no sound.  We tried to watch a recorded show from our DVR list and received error messages stating that we didn't have DVR.  We called Verizon tech support and a very rude person reset the box several times and apparently even reinitialized the box and the result was that the box wouldn't even turn on anymore.  He said that he'd have a new box shipped out to us and that it would arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday.  My husband got on the phone at that point and suggested to him that since we were brand new customers (less than a week) and that since we had service installed on the very same day that we ordered it online, that certainly they could have someone bring us a new box on Monday morning.  The technician told us that he would transfer us to the billing department because we could probably just cancel the service.  We were both dumbfounded.  Especially considering that he had been rude from the minute he took our call, and while we were obviously frustrated, we were never rude.  We were eventually transferred to someone in billing who said she had never heard of such a thing and that she could not help us unless we wanted to cancel.  While this was going on, I had unplugged the box again, let it sit for several minutes, then plugged it back in - and the tv worked.  And the DVR worked. We assumed that maybe something the tech support guy did had worked after all.  Well, it worked until the next morning.  We had error messages saying we had no DVR.  A reboot of the box worked again.  After work, in the evening, it turned out that scheduled shows didn't record.  So, we called tech support again and asked for our new box.  We were told we'd have it by Thursday.
New box arrived Thursday and we set it up that evening.  Went through trying to get all of our recordings set up again and finally sat down to watch tv.  I switched to Showtime (which we are subscribed to in our package) and received an error that the channel was not available, press B to troubleshoot or call tech support with this code.  Pressed B, went through the steps and the channel came back.  Then, proceeded on to HBO, also part of our subscription - and we received the same error.  We pressed B and this time going through the steps did NOT correct - so we called tech support.  After working with the girl for over an hour, she finally determined that we needed to be switched to billing to have them remove our HBO package and then put it back on and that should correct the problem.  So, while we were waiting for billing to come on the line, we started flipping channels again.  Now, channels that had previously worked were now showing the error that the channel was unavailable - even non HD, non premium channels.  When the billing girl got on the phone, she said there was really nothing she could do with that being the case and that downgrading our package and re-upgrading it would do nothing - that we needed technical support.  She got us on the line with a different tech support person who said that we were obviously having signal related issues and that we needed a tech to come out to look at the wiring.  He scheduled an appointment for us for Friday.  That call took over 2 hours.
On Friday, the tech came out and spent time checking all of the wires coming in to the house - he said we had multiple splitters on lines that didn't need splitters and that this was likely causing a signal disruption and was probably the cause of the failure on both boxes.  He removed some of the splitters and apparently streamlined some of the wiring.  We still had the original box and the new box.  He hooked up each box and they both worked - all of our premium channels worked, DVR was good, etc. We boxed up the old box to send back, kept the new box and had tv that worked just fine for a few hours... then we started having the channel not available issues again.  And, now - we were also getting messages saying that we weren't subscribed to a channel - and this would range from HBO all the way to a non HD standard tv channel.  A reboot will work and restore function - for a while.  However - scheduled shows aren't recording - or record for 7 seconds and stop.  Or record for a while, then have a 20 minute gap in the middle where it's frozen, etc.  This has been going on since a few hours after the technician left Friday evening.  And, I have to say - when the tech left Friday - everhything seemed fine.  He had tested the signal strength - seemed completely thorough and was very nice.  I don't think he could have known, at that time, that the problem wasn't fixed.
We have not called back to tech support yet.  We're busy with our work and our lives and we're also frustrated.  I know it will take another several hours and don't have much faith that there is any resolution.  It seems to me that we probably need the whole house completely rewired - brand new - start over.  I'm thinking there's a bad wire in there somewhere.
This morning with my coffee before work, I tried to watch a tv show in my DVR list that apparently didn't record properly - no surprise (it froze and skipped over half the show).  So, I went to On Demand and found the show. (Without Bay News 9, I'm kind of lost with morning coffee, so I need a show of some kind)  It started to play and was going along just fine, till I received a CableCARD  (tm) Pairing Information is not available message.  I tried the auto fix in the menu, rebooted, etc.  It worked for a few minutes, then stopped again.  At one point, I got an error saying the set top box lost video due to a network connection failure.  Great, does that mean my internet is going bad too?? While looking around in the menu function, I clicked on the self diagnostics feature.  It filled in all the information, as I'd seen it do before - except when it got to the package description.  This time, instead of Ultimate HD, HBO, VOD, etc., etc (like I'd seen before). it told me that my package is: Arabic, Armenian, ART (Arabic), Extreme HD, HBO, Prime & Ultimate HD, Prime HD, RA, RAI (Italian), etc., etc.  Huh???  Really???
So, I'm not sure now what the deal is - would a signal issue cause my subscription package to change?  Do I get on the phone with someone at tech support for another few hours?  Are they going to send yet another box?  Are they going to come re-wire the whole house?  Is it worth it?  This is really ridiculous.  Do I cancel and go back to Brighthouse with my tail between my legs?  At least with them, I knew that my internet connection would be wicked slow at certain times of the day, but at least I knew it was coming and could expect it - and I could at least count on my tv and dvr recording my shows.
When I logged into verizon to vent on this forum, my account said that it was unable to access my DVR.  When I clicked on manage my DVR, it just says Bad Gateway.  Not a great start to our relationship, Verizon.
I really need some advice.  Should I stay or should I go?  And, if I stay - what is the best way for me to explain this to tech support so they will do the right thing and fix this?  And, what is "this" anyway?  Bad box, bad wiring?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Need advice, sql server with asp or oracle with asp

    hi !
i have been given a task to improve the design of a sql server database with more than 1 million records, front end is asp (code has to be written also, keeping user interface same). I would like to use oracle with asp, is it practical or should i go for sql server. i need your advice.
    thanks in advance
    lavinder

Depends on your definition of "practical".
My guess is that most of the work will be porting your back-end code from SQL*Server to Oracle. The Migration Workbench can help here, but there are often things that you do in SQL*Server code that you really don't want to do in Oracle code (i.e. frequent commits).
There is a good chance that you'd be able to improve the scalability of the application faster by fixing the problems that exist in the SQL*Server implementation. I think Oracle is inherently a much more scalable platform than SQL*Server, however, so I'm not trying to dissuade you from moving. It really depends on the end state you need to achieve and the amount of time & effort you're willing to put forward.

  • Need a little help with dial setup on CME

I've got a CME I'm using for testing and I think I need a little help figuring out the proper config to get the system to accept numbers I dial and have those numbers be passed on to an Avaya system (including the leading 9 for ARS in Avaya) via H.323 IP trunks.   I have it working well for internal 5 digit extension calls across the H.323 trunks and I also have it working well for some types of outside calls that gets passed on to the Avaya and then the Avaya dials the call out to the PSTN.   My only real problem is, I can't figure out how to correctly configure CME to examine the digits I'm dialing and only send the digits once I'm finished dialing....not as soon as it sees an initial match.
What's happening is this.  I can dial local numbers in my area as 7 digits or 10 digits.  The phone company doesn't yet force us to dial area code and number for local calls (10 digits).  I can still dial 7 digits.   But...if I put an entry in CME that looks like this....
(by the way, the 192.168.1.1 IP is not the real IP address, that's just an example, but the rest of this entry is what I really have entered in CME)
    dial-peer voice 9 voip
description Outside 7 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9.......
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
...Then it will always try to dial out immediately after seeing the first 8 digits I dial (9 plus the 7 digit number I called)...even though I have a speicifc entry in the system that accounts for calls to 9 plus area code 513.  I would have assumed that if I put the specific entry in for 9513....... it would see that and wait to see if I was actually dialing something to match 9513....... instead of 9.......   Understand what I mean?   Because 9513....... is more specific than 9....... but it still tries to send the call out immediately after seeing the first 8 digits I dialed.
    dial-peer voice 9513 voip
description Outside 10 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9513.......
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
...BUT...here's the interesting thing.  If I trace the 10 digit call in Avaya, I see that the number being presented to the Avaya PBX is only the first 7 digits of the number....not the full 10 digits...BUT I see a few more of the digits I dialed (like the 8th and 9th digits) after the call is already setup and sent to the PSTN.  It's like the CME is trying to send the rest of the 10 digits I dialed, but at that point it's already too late.   It setup the call as a 7 digit call (9 plus 7 digits), not 10 digit like I wanted.
I'm more familiar with how to setup dialing in the Avaya via ARS.  My background is Avaya, not Cisco, so this dial-peer config is a little difficult for me until I understand the reasoning of how it examines the numbers and what I should do to make it wait for me to finish dialing....or to tell the system that what I'm dialing will be a minimum or a certain amount of digits and maximum of a certain amount of digits, like the Avaya does.  I just need some pointers and examples to look at :-)   I think I've almost got it....but I'm just missing something at the moment.
Just so you understand, the call flow should be like this:  Cisco phone registered to CME > CME to Avaya via H.323 trunks > Avaya to PSTN via ISDN PRI trunks connected to Avaya.  I have to be sure I send the 9 to the Avaya also, because 9 triggers ARS in the Avaya.
    Thanks for your help

Here is a good document that explains how dial-peers are matched in the Cisco world:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk90/technologies_tech_note09186a008010fed1.shtml#topic7
In your case, it is variable length dial plan you are trying to implenent. To fix it, you need to add a T to force the system to wait for more digits to be entered if there is any.
    dial-peer voice 9 voip
description Outside 7 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9.......T
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
    dial-peer voice 9513 voip
description Outside 10 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9513.......
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
You can also configure the inter-digits timeout using the command timeouts interdigit under telephony-service.

  • I need some basic help with Email setup

Hello, I ve just been connected to infinity and I m trying to setup a few email addresses but the BT yahoo system is confusing me.
I managed to create a new email (sub account) for my wife but I m struggling with finding a way to have a couple more for myself. Do I really need to make a sub account for each email?
The default email has my name and surname in it which is not something I generally use for that purpose, I would only use that one for close friends and family, I would like to setup another one for general use and one for when there is a likelyhood it ll get a lot of spam.
The way to add extra emails is usually very simple (with previous isps) , login to "manage my account" and choose username and password then enter the details in outlook express.
With BT I m having to deal with the Yahoo thingy, which does a lot of more than just emails but at this time I have interest in it at all.
1 - I would simply like to setup a few emails to use with outlook express, what is the best way to achieve that ?
2 - The yahoo email seems to be part of a network like facebook, as I  don t intend to use that side of it I would prefer not to have my personal details associated with a profile that I do not  need . It seems to be for public viewing by default.
Can I set up and use my emails without having an online profile for yahoo?
How do i keep my details offline (not publicly viewable in yahoo)?
    thanks.

    yes!
you get one prime email address. the one you agreed to and the one to set up your bt mail, it was in letter confirming bt set up. (order ref)
for more for yourself, or anybody else,  its got to be sub. up to ten for INF2
I have set up 4 sub accounts with different names, etc. but use the same password for all 5 .
I then had them set up with outlook express, there is a bt prog to do this. look on site.
Then I use incredimail as my final mail client, this also has a prog to set up from outlook express.
so all my mail to and from me ends up in incredimail with my 4 sub accounts, using one as my prime.
my bt prime I do not use, as it is my full name.
so far so good, just a bit slow finding its way, like you my previous ISP (tesco) was less complicated, but slow copper wire.
    good luck
    Ronin22
In the end we will all be star dust.
    Then start all over again.

  • Need advice to deal with concurrency

    Hi,
I just need you're advice on how I should handle concurrency. Iam doing ordering assignment, and I need to ensure concurrency. In my assignment concurrency comes into play if/when many customers try to order the same product but there is not enough product quantity.
At the moment I have made all my preparedstatement objects synchronized. Like following:
          synchronized(updateProductQuantity){
            updateProductQuantity.clearParameters();
            updateProductQuantity.setInt(1, prod_qty);
            updateProductQuantity.setInt(2, prod_no);
            updateProductQuantity.executeUpdate();
}Iam wondering if this is enough. Do you think I should lock the database table?
    Thanks for you're help!

What you have done there only ensures that one thread can execute that particular update at a time. You should do this regardless, since you wouldn't want two threads both getting into that code -- you might get prod_qty from one thread and prod_no from another thread.
However what you have done there doesn't prevent two customers from both ordering your last widget. And I don't think locking the table will help. What you need is a method that does this:
    - Get the product record
    - see if there is anything on hand
    - if there isn't then set on the out-of-stock flag (or whatever)
    - if there is then decrement the on-hand quantity and update the product record
And this entire method needs to be synchronized on some object.

  • Swapping computers with the setup info

When I set up my Airport Extreme Base Station I had attached it to a Dell running Windows XP. That desktop crapped out recently and the Base Station continues to broadcast the wireless signal just fine. However, I realize that in order to update the software, I am going to need to hook it up to a computer. I plan to sub in a Dell laptop running XP. I know I should run the ethernet cable that was attached to the dead desktop to the laptop, but should I install the extreme express software on the laptop first, and once it is hooked up, will it read the configuration already on the base station? In other words, somebody walk me through this. Right now I have a wireless signal being broadcast through my house. I don't want to screw that up.
    Roger

Hello Roger in North Charleston. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I know I should run the ethernet cable that was attached to the dead desktop to the laptop, but should I install the extreme express software on the laptop first, and once it is hooked up, will it read the configuration already on the base station?
It doesn't matter when you install the AirPort utility, but it will need to be installed before you can administer the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Just use the installation CD that came with your base station to install the utility.
, and once it is hooked up, will it read the configuration already on the base station?
    Yes.

  • Need advice on going with 10g vs 11i for PeopleSoft 9.0 and tools version.

    Hi,
My company is currently on PeopleSoft 8.9 with peopletools 8.48. We are looking to upgrade our Application, Database and tools set. For anyone that has already or is in theprocess of converting to PeopleSoft 9.0, could you let me know what version or Oracle your company selected along with waht tools version and why you made these selections. In addition any lessons learned would be of great help.
    Thank you,
    Maryanne

If you are moving to Peoplesoft 9.0, why not using Peopletools 8.49 and Oracle 11g ?
If the Peopletools version 8.49 is not questionnable from my point of view, available for several years and now most of the bugs are fixed - means it is robust, the main question will be for 11g of Oracle.
Should we go to the latest patchset of 10.2 or for the first patchset of 11g ?
However, if you're in the beginning of the project, I would go for 11g, the second patchset will come out in few months time (I would bet before the end of the year - just my opinion -), and it will be easier to upgrade your db version at that time to a newer patchset than manage a version upgrade from 10g to 11g.
Always keep in mind than a Peoplesoft application is working for many years, and upgrade the version of database is not always neutral in terms of time and costs.
    Nicolas.

  • Linking 2 computers with Logic node, anyone try it?

Has anyone established a way to utilize 2 computers side by side to share the processing with logic?
I have a macbook intell and a non intell mac mini, can anyone advise on this set up?

I think your question is legitimate because I've
never found any mention of using Logic Node between a
PPC and Intel machines in the manual.
Hi,the reason you do not see mention of Intel in the Logic Pro manual...is because it was written before Intel chips were available on the Macs.
However, I've read that this is possible.
The latest version of the Node app,WORKS across Intel and PPC platforms.I use it every day,my main machine is an Intel MackBook CoreDuo 2gHz,and my slave is my G4 PPC iBook.
In your case, the problem would be the Mac Mini, because you need to
have computers with Gigabits ethernet ports and the
Mac Mini come with standard 10/100.
FALSE!!! NOT TRUE!!! While Logic recommends the use of Gigabit Ethernet to run the node app,you only need it on the HOST computer. And if you are running more than one slave, then it IS neccessary to use a Gigabit Ethernet Hub,in order to be able to have enough bandwidth to avoid problems between the host and slave computers.
BUT you CAN use any mac with an 10/100 ethernet protocol as a SLAVE NODE.It just will not give you as much horsepower as the Gigabit protocol (100 kbits VS 1000kBits...)
You could, for instance, have a G5 with Gigabit Ethernet, going to one 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Hub,and that going to 4 Mac of any kind, either 10/100 OR Gigabit.
    Cheers

  • Need advice on Wifi setup

I need some advice on the best wifi setup to use for my house's configuration.
Currently I have cable internet coming in at one end of the house downstairs.  I have an Airport Express (circa 2010) connected directly to the cable modem. On the second floor on the complete opposite side of the house is my bedroom/office.  I have an Airport Extreme (2011 5th generation) set up to extend the wireless network.
This has worked fine and we have not had any problems connecting any of our wireless devices to the network.
I also have the airport express set up to use dyndns with a domain name I own so that I can remotely access my network at work.
I have just added a new mac mini to the mix to replace an aging and antiquated Windows Home Server.  I want to administer all the user's (6 kids) in the house, manage photo and itunes libraries and eventually set up a webserver and allow remote access to our home computers.
So my question is this....is there a better way to configure the airport devices?  I would prefer to have the cable modem connected directly to the airport extreme, but then I would be wasting the USB and gigabit ethernet ports as the location of the cable modem is in our living room with no electronic devices in sight.  Since my primary connection for my main computer and the new mac mini is through the airport extreme connected wirelessly to the airport express, I am thinking the express could be the bottleneck.  Would spending the cash on a 2nd Airport Extreme to replace the Airport Express be beneficial or just a waste of money?
    Thanks.
    Brian

Yes, I had considered running an etherent cable to the bedroom, but my wife doesn't like the idea of seeing the cable snaking through hallways.
In the bedroom, I have connected the imac, mac mini and the AEBS with etherent cable.  It's just my connection to the internet that does not have the benefit of ethernet, although the speed I get from my cable internet is much slower than the wifi connection.
I would eventually like to move the cable modem upstairs and use the AEBS as the primary base station and the AX downstairs to extend my wireless network.  However, there is an issue in that the cable modem has to be the only device on the cable connection and I am currently using the cable connection to carry my DISH Network signal and basic cable signal to the bedroom.
I guess my question really boils down to this...Would an AE in place of the AX give a stronger signal to the 2nd AE in the bedroom.  I will turn off the AE tonight and see what kind of a signal I get from the AX downstairs.  I haven't tried it, but I suppose I could also move the Airport Extreme (5th Gen) downstairs and hook it directly to the cable modem and not even use the AX because the signal from the new AE should be as good or better than last year's AX - but then I would lose the gigabit ethernet between those devices - which is why I haven't done that yet.
I could also drop the $$$ on a Time Capsule for the bedroom and use it for all my backups (but that's kinda what I'm hoping to do with the mac mini) and move the AE downstairs to the cable modem.
    Decisions, decisions.

  • Technical Newbie Need help linking 2 computers with WRT54G

Hi, Please excuse my non-technical language!
I have 2 PCs that I would like to connect together so that one can get files from the other and vice versa.
I have a broadband modem hooked up to a linksys wrt54g wireless router, and each computer is hooked up to the router with cables. I figured out how to configure it so that both computers can get on the internet and I haven't had any problems there.
This may sound dumb since I was able to get online using the router, but what I need some basic help with is how to connect the 2 computers to each other.
I read the information on the website and I'm sure this is possible, I just don't know what I need to download or change on the computers to make it happen.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

What operating systems do you have on your PC's?  There are a few ways to configure your network but largely depends on your operating systems you have.  Basically you can open the network wizard and set up the network on each PC or you can do it manually.  Depending on your OS go to your control panel and click on Network Connections or Network Setup Wizard .  If you use the network Wizard just go through the set up or you can click on Network Connections and on the left side there is a link to "Set up a home or small office network" if your OS is Windows XP.  Make sure both PC's are on the same workgroup and file and printer sharing is turned on.

I just purchase a brand new mac computer and I need to purchase new adobe CS software for work. Do you know if Adobe CS5 Design Premium-Mac is compatible with new mac computers with the updated Yosemite software? *No previous adobe CS software versions are on this computer

There are known technical issues with any older version on Yosemite, even CS6. Some can be worked out, others may not be relevant to you, some will remain unsolved.

  • Major Issues with installing 4tb internal. Really need advice please

In the process of a long needed upgrade to my 2010 Mac Pro Quad core 2.8 and have run into a serious headache that I really need advice on so I can get back to work. I've already spent 2 days dealing with all of this...
Just did a new SSD install and Migration which went fine but I'm also updating the rest of the internal drives. My main (non boot) drive was being upgraded from a Seagate Barracuda 3tb to a 4th Deskstar NAS (it was showing as compatible with my desktop, see links below). My 3tb ran fine for years but now due to it being heavily used I want to switch to a new drive and I can also use a bit more space.
The issue I'm running into is that initially on boot, my system was telling me it couldn't recognize the disk and it wasn't even showing up in Disk Utility. I had to purchase a SATA USB 3 kit to attach it as an external to get it to show which worked without problem. With the USB kit I was then able to partition it (GUID, Mac OS extended journaled) and format it properly. After reinserting the drive into my tower as an internal it failed to show again. After a few attempts of restarts and trying various bays it popped up but showed as a non formatted drive and I was told again that the system didn't recognise it. I was then given the option to initialise and was then actually able to then format and partition it though Disk Utility while it was installed as an internal.
Figured that was problem solved but when I went to check the drive and getting ready to transfer files over I noticed that Disk Utility was only allowing the First Aid and Partition options but not Erase, RAID, Restore which I'd never seen before. I then also noticed that none of the drive connection info was in the same format nor will it even provide drive bay info, connection info or read/write status (See screen shots). This is what I can't figure out and really need to clarify before I put full trust into using this drive.
Any info would be greatly appreciated...
Deskstar 4tb internal info which is installed in Bay 2
3tb Seagate which I trying to retire and transfer from.
Here are the weblinks to the Deskstar 4tb drive and the compatibility list but I support isn't allowing me to add direct links so add the www. before hand.
    (Drive - eshop.macsales.com/item/HGST/0S03664/) (compatibility list - eshop.macsales.com/Descriptions/specs/Framework.cfm?page=macpromid2010.html).

    What OSX version?
Disk Utility in later versions of ML and I think Mavericks have problems formatting with 4 TB internal drives.
