NEED ADVICE!! ASAP!

I have a MBP Rev. D (Late07) 2.2Ghz, it came with a stock 2gb (2x1gb) RAM. I bought 4gb (2x2gb) from crucial. My last problem with my mac was a faulty fan. I got it to the apple store, and was replaced (at least that's what the report said). But since then I've gotten 2 new issues: (1) my mac's fans randomly turn on when its lid is closed (in sleep) and (2) the performance of my mac is much slower than before, girlfriends macbook (2ghz, 1gb Ram) is faster than mine.
Should I re-install Leopard in an attempt to solve those issues?
(i already restarted the PMU in my mac, and the PRAM, neither solved it..)
Or should I just go directly to the apple store again?
Please let me know if u had any of these issues...

Actually, I did not have this problem, but I do remember reading about similar problems some time ago.

I don't think your not sleeping problem is necessarily related to the sensor problem.
I have not run the AHT in some time, so I don't remember the extended version taking so long. However, I do seem to remember that you can uncheck parts of the test. So you could run the short form at the Apple Store. If you get any errors on the short version, you could repeat just those on the extended version by unchecking everything else.
Some time ago I remember a problem where the SNS error code would show up on the short version, but not on the extended version. Not entirely sure what to make of that, but you don't want any error codes.

So if you can tell me what exactly I do NEED (I cannot use Dial UP as the owner's phone line is tied up so this is just for a few days she is away) so then I can figure out what I need to do to get it. IF I can afford it. Router? Is there any other way - or refurbished *Base Station* ? I am an artist/with very few

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.You should be aware this is the iMac G4 (aka dome/iLamp) forum rather than the iMac G5 (iSight etc) forum. In future you'll be best to post there.
The best way for you to achieve a broadband internet connection is by using Airport.
You need two items:
Airport Extreme card - this may have been pre-installed when you bought your iMac (To check: Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info ... > Network > Aiport.)
Wireless Router/modem - I have a Belkin one which is much cheaper than Apple's Airport Extreme Base Station (Incidentally Apple's one only allows for dial-up internet connection out of the box). The Belkin (there are other versions) is managed via a web page (easy) and replaces your current DSL modem but also acts as a wireless router (it's that feature which connects the modem to your iMac's Airport card rather than the Ethernet cable you used to use. I've just noticed that the links on the page I link to are the wrong product - they are a wireless router only - which should still be okay if you already have an Ethernet DSL modem.

The Mac uses an "All devices active" philosophy with pointing devices and keyboards.
If you have additional pointing devices attached, especially a graphics tablet, it is still directing mouse operations at the same time as the mouse you have your hand on. The end result is the SUM of commands from all such devices.

Neo2 865-ls compatibility issue - plz ASAP need advice

Im recently building a computer with the new 865pe chipset. I tried IS-7 but it was DOA. I rma it. Then I tried asus p4p800 delux...i rma twice cuz thier was problem with my all in wonder ati radeon 9700 pro pn-XXX-10, it have conflict with that version,. Asus and ABit has bad support. Right now im thinking about either getting MSI Or INTEL. INTEL board are reliable and stable but too freaking slow and too skimpy. I want to get MSI 865pe neo2 -ls but alot off ppl have problems with da board ?( ask am reading in this forum. So im confuse. If anybody thier can give me help or tell me that these parts will be compatible with new 865pe neo2-ls. I need advice soon cuz im going back to college in a week and i have to get it set up by then.

There shouldn't be any issue on this board if you do the proper setups accordingly.
1 word of advice for you. This mobo is very very very particular of the RAMs working on it, therefore, please kindly refer to the following page for a list of compatible RAMs:

All in all, this is a very very very good and stable board for me myself(in my signature) and it rocks very smoothly during gaming, ripping music and multi-tasking.

I'm restoring my iPhone right now, need help ASAP

So I've had a corrupt file that's been taking up 7GB in my 'other' stuff on my iPhone 5 so I'm finally restoring it right now, but I'm guessing the backup data with have saved whatever that corrupt file is in it.
So 3 questions: • If I don't want to backup now but for some reason decide I want to in a say a day or so what would I do?
• Can I restore my phone from my iCloud backup, if so how?
• After restoring my iPhone will it create new backup data that will wipe over the already existing data with the corrupt file in it or what?

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
3.Yes on computer it will replace the old backup. (I suggest you manually delete the backup first)
iTunes > Preferences... > Devices > select backup and click the Delete button.

Need advice about certification: do J2SE 1.4 or wait for 1.5 to go out?

I need advice here! I am studing for Java Programmer certification (310-035) and I know now that the certification does not have any expiration date, instead it's version based. So, if I get now a J2SE 1.4 certification, soon it will be outdated... I guess!
Does anyone know or have any ideia of WHEN java 1.5 sdk will be avaliable, and anyone can tell me how long it will take for a new 1.5 programmer certification be avaliable for general public?

Do both. 1.5 is far enough away that you do not want to wait for it.
And besides, 1.5 has enough new stuff in it that you'll want to recertify anyway.

Need advice on on a Mac Pro 1,1 Media Center

I currently have a 2009 Mac Mini running as my home media center, but I recently came by a FREE Mac Pro 1,1 and have decided to repurpose it as my media center so I can migrate my Mac Mini to my bedroom TV where it will live an easy life doing nothing but run Plex Home Theater, Netflix, and EyeTV. This machine falling into my lap was also quite timely because my 4-bay Drobo is running low on available expansion and another Drobo isn't in the budget at the moment.
This vintage mac pro is running Lion 10.7.5, has 1 old and crusty 500GB hardrive, dual x5160 processors, 4GB RAM (one stick i'm pretty sure is toast judging by the red light and the kernel panics), and the standard NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB graphics card. It will be used primarily for the following: network storage for iphoto and itunes libraries, streaming video, Plex Media Server & Plex Home Theater, and Handbrake encoding. I also have a goal of safety of data for my movies, photos and music as this machine will supplement my current Drobo storage.
My plans are for a 128GB SSD boot drive installed in one of the PCIe slots and then to load up all 4 of the 3.5" drive bays with WD Green hard drives. I have also ordered 4GB of replacement RAM, so upon removal of the faulty unit I will have 7GB.
Here is where I need advice because I am not very familiar with RAID and the differences between hardware or software raid. Am I better off getting four drives of the same size and setting them up as RAID 5 (I think) using Apple's RAID utility or should I throw in three 1TB drives and then install a fourth 3TB or 4TB drive as a Time Machine backup for the other three?
Should I upgrade the OSX to the technically unsupported latest version? Or is it not worth the trouble for this application?
Also, is there any benefit to upgrading the graphics card to the ATI Radeon 5770? Would this yield an improved image quality? I am outputting to a Denon AV Reciever and subsequently to a 100" projection screen, if that makes a difference. I also noticed the 5770 has an HDMI port, wich would be nice, but not necessary since I can use a DVI converter and woud still need to use the optical audio out anyway.

PCIe cards that use or support SSD are not bootable until you get to 2008 (and that is limited too).
Green are not suited for any form of array unless say NAS and WD RED. Better option would be 3 x 2TB WD Blacks in a mirror, and too many people only use two drives, well 3 is much easier safer and works better. Might want to invest in www.SoftRAID.com product even.

Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
Here is more technical info:
Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better. If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS). If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software. FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

Have you tried simply saving the PDF (it IS a PDF correct?) to your desktop and opening it from there?
Did you get this form from the IRS or did it come from somewhere else? If the IRS again, what version of Reader?

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

My ipod says i have no music on it, but when i plug it into itunes, and look under music on my ipod, its all there. NEED HELP ASAP!!!!! all the music came from a computer which i no longer have, so my ipod is the only place where that music is.

You had a glitch and the music files got corrupted. I know of no way to uncorrupt them.
You can try using a computer app like iFunbox

to see if yo can get them from the iPod in a usable file.
Otherwise you will have to re import them to your computer and sync

You're right ! But my printer is connected via the ethernet port and i need to use the print API to communicate with it. In ActionScript nothing works I tried to send the escape sequence that should open the drawer : String.fromCharCode(27)+String.fromCharCode(112)+String.fromCharCode(48)+String.fromCharC ode(53)+String.fromCharCode(53) ... it didn't work.
So i decided to call a little Java program (JAR) through the Air NativeProcess API. This program send the escape sequence to the printer using Java print API.

it seems like apple's activation servers have gone down under the weight of the overwhelming amount of activation requests. you will be able to activate your phone once the servers are able to catch up with the activation requests.

I currently use adobe elements 3 and have done so for a few years now with no problems. my os is XP and my system is a couple of years old, but we do have a brand new win7 machine in the house.
I am currently look at Cyberlink PowerDirector 8 Ultra OR Adobe Premiere Elements 8. Reviews for both softwares seem very good BUT, when I dig deeper into user reviews instead of editor reviews do I find problems.
Major problems with program crashing all over the place, at start up etc, and it is still not getting along with any win7 machine? Major problems with drivers. Honestly, I do not want to have to jump through dozens of hoops to get any software to run. After I pay for it, it should run, period.
Has anyone else here used both softwares and can you give an honest opinion of each?
I am also asking these same questions on the cyberlink site.
I would like to upgrade my video software to take advantage of the new features that are coming out but I really don't want a big headache trying to run one or the other. To be fair, when I bought adobe elements 3 I had also bought pinnacle, which has gathered dust since my first week with it, which is why elements was purchased. That was money wasted and I do not wish to repeat this. I would like to go with Premiere Elements 8 but remain very unsure.

If your newer machine is Win7 64-bit, it might be worth waiting for SP-1 to be issued, and then hope that 64-bit drivers are fully included. The 64-bit drivers now seem t be an issue at this point, and that will affect any NLE program.
Also, and regardless of which particular program you choose, optimizing your computer, the OS, the hardware, and the resources management, will go a very long way to insuring success. Few programs can tax a computer, as an NLE can - any NLE. Video and Audio editing will stress your system, like almost nothing else can, except for heavy-duty CAD, or 3D work, though those are usually done only on specialized, optimized computers, designed just for those applications.
Not the specific advice that you seek, but it's the best that I can do.

just get an ext HD, and point your itunes library to that drive so now you'll just keep all your media on this ext
