Need better wireless carrd

I'm on Infinity and both machines (PC & Mac) are on wireless.
The Mac is very near to the HomeHub 3 etc & gets the engineers tested speed of 35Mb.
My PC is not near the Hub (10 meters) and cabling is not really an option. I get 20Mb.
However my wireless card is ancient (Edimax EW7128g), really old but has served me well over the years & I mean years.
Would a modern wireless card help and if so which one.
On Vista HP 32bit
Cheers
David

  • MBP better wireless reception than PD?

Question for previous owners of PowerBooks who have upgraded to a MacBook Pro.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a new MBP 17". Do MBP's have better wireless reception than PowerBooks? I have a powerbook G4 17" 1.5ghz, my friends MacBook (white) has way better reception. The MacBook can see about 10 local wireless networks and connects with good reception while the powerbook rarely sees more than three, and I get barely any signal strength if any at all from the visible networks.

I can confirm what sig says, to an extent. My MBP does have slightly better reception than a PB, but it's nowhere near as good as an MB (or my iPhone/iPod Touch). I haven't had any issues with dependability. The main issue is the aluminum casing, since the MB and MBP have the same wireless card.
All of them are more than adequate for my needs, though. The MBP gets full strength from my wireless network; so does a laptop with a polycarbonate case, but the latter does see more of the neighbors' networks.

  • I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

  • Advice needed on wireless router

    Hello
I currently need a wireless router to give my wireless clients an internal address range e.g. 10.1.1.x/24
But, I need to configure the router WAN port on a different subnet (using static ip e.g. 172.30.30.1/24) and obviously with another uplink router say, 172.30.30.254/24 and manual dns address.
I need the wireless router to NOT run network address translation on wireless clients making requests, i.e. so the requests come out with their original IP addresses 10.1.1.x. This is because another device upstream does this and we need to see the clients original source ips.
My questions from looking around at forum posts:
    - is this achievable on the wrtg models e.g. wrtg54g, with the option to set "router mode" instead of "gateway mode" ?
    - is this achievable on the newer e1000 by disabling nat mode, or does this do something different.
    Please could someone advise me.
    thanks

Yes, that's possible. Set LAN and internet connection as needed and disable NAT (aka "router mode").

  • Do I need a wireless card to use a router with my iMac or does the built in

I am having ComCast install a router at my home and they tell me I'll need a wireless card. I shouldn't need one with Airport Extreme installed should I?

    Right - sort of.
You do need a wireless card to connect to a wireless router. However your Mac already has built-in wireless (almost every iMac does, only the original from 1998 didn't) so you're good to go - you don't need any extras.

  • I need a backup system, but do not need another wireless system. Does Time Capsule offer just a backup option?

When I looked up Time Capsule on line, I found it provides backup and wireless connection. I don't want another wireless set up, just backup. Can I get just backup option with Time Capsule or do I have to seek an outside external backup device?

Does the OP mean he doesn't need a "wireless" system or does he mean that he doesn't need an additional connection to the Internet?  The latter is my situation.  I'm just wondering -- if I'm perfectly happy with my current routers --will it be easy to add a TC to my current setup?   Would the TC get Ethernet-plugged into the router, or can it stand by itself (closer to where we have the printer)?

My system is: ASUS A8V with latest official BIOS, ATI x850 Pro, WD SATA 250GHD, AMD A64 3700, 2x52 twinx Corsair matched memory, Antech true power 2.0, 500 Watts. I have all the latest drivers and I am running XP pro SP2. I to have the bad audio when playing games such as BF2, COD2 and UT2004. I also have bad audio when playing music through WINAMP and surfing the internet. I have no IRQ conflicts and have the beta drivers for the Audigy installed. I can reduce/eliminate the amount of popping/crackling by going into my BIOS, then save and exit.Message Edited by Dirty_Harry on 06-07-2006 09:55 AM

No it does not, as long as you do as follows: (Instructions are copied over from my previous posts on the subject)
How to manually change the Windows HAL:
Use the following command: "expand d:\i386\halacpi.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll"
Whereas: <EM>d:</EM> is your CD-ROM letter, or where you Windows XP Installation resides.
halacpi.dl_ can be any of the following depending on what you want to install:
"Standard PC", Non-ACPI PIC HAL (<EM>Hal.dll</EM>)</LI>
"MPS Uniprocessor PC", Non-ACPI APIC UP HAL (<EM>Halapic.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"MPS Multiprocessor PC", Non-ACPI APIC MP HAL (<EM>Halm
    ps.
    dl_</EM>)</LI>
"Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC", ACPI PIC HAL (<EM>Halacpi.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"ACPI Uniprocessor PC", ACPI APIC UP HAL (<EM>Halaacpi.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"ACPI Multiprocessor PC", ACPI APIC MP HAL (<EM>Halmacpi.dl_</EM>)
    </LI>
Offcourse, the HAL you should change to is Standard PC. You will lose Dual Core or HT support in the process, but I strongly believe it can help. As per above, you can switch back to your previous HAL without reinstalling. You will be most prolably asked for the drivers of your devices, but on my setup, it didn't, as they were already stored in Windows' System Folders.

  • HT3728 I do not need another wireless network but want to use the airport express for printer access only.  Can this be done and how?

I do not need another wireless network but want to use the airport express for printer access only.  Can this be done and how?

You can configure the AirPort Expess to "Join a wireless network" and enable the Ethernet port so that Ethernet devices will be able to connect.
In order to print from the iOS devices, you will need to have an application like Printopia installed on your Mac. The Mac must be active when you want to print.
More details here: Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
There is a free trial available for Printopia, so make sure that it will work before you buy the AirPort Express.

  • Express or Extreme better wireless range extender?

I own the latest Airport Extreme as my base station.  I also own a prior, 5th generation Extreme 802.11n, and a prior generation Airport Express 802.11n (the one that plugs directly into the wall).  Two questions:
-- Which of these two would be a more effective wireless range extender for my base station?
-- Would there be any disadvantage (eg diluting the signal) to using them both, in different locations in my house?
    Thanks.

-- Which of these two would be a more effective wireless range extender for my base station?
The AirPort Extreme has a better antenna arrangement, so it would normally work better.
-- Would there be any disadvantage (eg diluting the signal) to using them both, in different locations in my house?
The network slows down a bit with each wireless device, but the effect of having greater wireless coverage will probably disguise that.
Most users would rather have better wireless range, even if they must give up a bit of speed.

  • What happened to Reunion?  need better options for genealogists, please.

We need better options for genealogists, please.  What happened to Reunion???

apologies for obtuse question.   Reunion is apparently no longer available from App Store.  Family Tree Maker is now available for MAC but  is not getting good reviews.  I have used both.  FYM on PC and then switched to Reunion, because  FTM was not available in 2008 when I got my Mac.
Now I note that Ancestry is in cahoots with FTM so am tempted to switch again  but put off by the poor feedback.
I thought that Reunion was also available for Iphone but not FTM??

  • I need better form options

    Hi,
I made a couple of apex applications, now running in production, but the more we made, the more we found we need better forms, now we input eveything in our apex application with linear forums, like we need to make purchase orders, first let me explain how our current jobs like:
We mainly using excel spreedsheet for everything, we make like, Purchase orders, and others in excel, after we printing out, we have to input those POs to our apex applications(that is my idea), but everytime we only can add one line per time, I viewed the tabular forums , but in the browers, it is not good to use like excel,
I got other ERP systems, and it is very common to use forms inside of it, and like making a new PO, they got tabular forms just like spreedsheets, very good, and you can make a po in it, print it out, and it is also in the database, but now we cannot do that, our form/reporting tool is MS excel,
Any good idea about that, will you make a tabular forms like MS excel in browers, ?? , you know, if you use Google doc, they already made Spreedsheet in the web..
We need better forms, and , better reporting.
    Peter

YOu can look at using a collection to gather multiple rows and then write the collection back out after you are done with the processing..
I believe there are examples up her efor doing that, and I worked with an application to do that too..
Also I believe there are data grids available that could be modified to work with APEX, again, it was talked about here in the forum..
(Correction, here is a link to a javascript "grid" library, free to download even..

  • Do I need a wireless keyboard for  video editing,as not Yao much desk room

Do I need a wireless keyboard + mouse to video editing and bit off gaming
    Not much desk room
    any help/advice

If you look at the 2013 Retina models in the Apple store, you'll see the higher end version has both the Intel Iris and an additional Nvidia graphics module. The higher end models have this additional circuit, which is to provide faster and smoother graphics for video, games, etc.
I'd suggest looking at both model benchmarks at everymac.com. Here's the 2012:

    Hi, everything in the "Quick Reference" section should be commented out with ;
You should change those settings further down in the php.ini file.
    Example:
    error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT
    display_errors = Off
