Need explanation of crawled property creation

I have two columns inside Cars list.
Column 1: CarColor [Single line of text] (sample value: "red")
Column 2: CarType [Single line of text] (sample value: "mec")
I created crawled properties, both of them used SharePoint category for them as following:
Column 1:CarColor
Column 2:ows_CarType
As you can see, I used naming convention for automatically created crawled property.
I first tried with CarColor. After starting full crawl, beside my
CarColor, SharePoint created ows_CarColor crawled property for me. At that time, I could search for the "red" term that its result was returned as http://mysiteurl/Lists/Cars?id=1. I then unchecked Include in full-text
index with ows_CarColor and checked Include in full-text index for
CarColor and perform Full crawl. By that time, SharePoint returned only the AllItems.aspx of the list with search term highlighted.
After that, I did the test for column 2. After full crawl, SharePoint did not create crawled property for this column, except one I had created by PowerShell before. The property was checked with Include in full-text index. The property worked well,
and column could be searchable with term "mec".
From two tests above, I would like to ask you to answer for me some questions.
1. We actually have control over creating crawled properties in SharePoint 2013?
2. Are there any naming convention constraint when creating crawled property in SharePoint, or just name it as column's internal name? For example, with column type single line of text, its crawled property must have prefix "ows_" in front of its
internal name.
3. From the test 1, why the term could not be searched, and Why SharePoint only returned AllItems.aspx? In that case, I believe that SharePoint Search is recognizing CarColor and ows_CarColor as the same crawled property; hence it does not know which property's
value should be returned?
Thanks,
Hoan.

  • Crawled Property OFFICE:7 (document template) is not crawled and thus not mapped to managed property

    Hi,
our customer (SharePoint Enterprise 2013) wants to crawl the information which Office template was used for creation of a Word/Excel/PowerPoint file for refining in his searchcenter.
We did some research on that topic and found out, that this information should be crawled in the buildin crawled category OFFICE in the crawled porperty 7. But so far any attempts to get any mapping working on this crawled property have been insufficient/frustrating...
    What we did:
Map the crawled property to the RefinableString00 Refiner, add this refiner to the refiner web Panel and then do a full crawl. So far the refiner does not show up, and when using the "Query tool" we see that the managed property is empty and not
filled. For Debugging I tried to map nother crawled property to this refiner OFFICE:2 => Title of OFFICE:4 => Author which worked out just fine. So the refiner configuration seems to work but the crawler somehow does not seem to get the template Information
out of my documents. I even opened the uploaded word documents in Word to control if the template Information is correctly readable and you can see in the properties of the file, that normal.dot is filled out.
We even controlled the properties of the crawled property, it´s "isMappedToContents" is set to true.
with Kind regards, I really Do hope someone has a clue
    David

All the content which is crawled will be part of search results by default including all the data in the list and documents. Mapping crawl property with Managed property helps if you want to execute a keyword query : Title(column)=SharePoint or
    Title;SharePoint
You will typically need to do this kindda mapping if you want to
    1. filter data based on column in Advanced Search Web Part
    2. Add your custom column as part of search results on result page.
    3. Add column based FILTER on Search result page.

  • Custom Manage Property does not pick up the value from mapping crawl property

    Hi All,
I have created a custom list with the column name that's called "category".
Then I ran full crawl and I saw the "ows_category" crawl property is created.
Then I create the manage property names as "Category" and map with the "ows_category" and run the full crawl again. (Retrivable, Searchable, Refinable options are checked)
After full crawl, I searched Category:keyword but it returned 0 result.
But when I search keyword, that list item is retuned
I tried to debug with the spsearch2013 tool and there is no "Category" manage property in the return XML.
It seems the Manage Property does not pick up value from the crawl property. (Something might be wrong with the index schema)
    Do you have any suggestion?
Do I need to reset the index?
    Best Regards,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
When you search ‘category’ in crawled properties(Central Administration->Search Service Application->Search Schema), you will see ows_Category is mapped to DiscussionCategory, like the screenshot:
So, I suggest you create a new column using another name, then test again, compare the result.

  • Duplicate Crawled Property Name

    Hello
I added a terms as "Legal". Then I noticed that it is appearing twice as crawled properties as
    Legal (Text)
ows_Legal_x0020(Text) - It seems like a internal name.
Can anyone tell what is logic behind for creating two different properries?
Secondly If I need to add map Legal, do I need to map both, if so why?

  • Crawled Property - Related fields for Lookup Fields

    I have two lists -
    List1
    AuthorName
    AuthorCountry
    List2
    Book
    AuthorName (lookup from List1)
AuthorCountry (additional field from List1 based on lookup field AuthorName)
I can see ows_AuthorName as a crawled property. But if I want to get the associated AuthorCountry is there a way to get it? Even though I have a column for related AuthorCountry field there is no crawled property for it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jake.

If you create a Site Column and add it to the list instead of a regular list column, it automatically creates a corresponding crawled property & managed property. this would be the easiest

It seems you are asking in wrong forum. AFAIK, you are asking "how to add HTTP header to response generated by my own script". It depend on WWW server we are speaking of and language of script itself. If you will fail to found solution within documentation of the HTTP server and/or scripting language you are using, then the better place for your question is a forum related to such language and HTTP server.
In meantime, you can try other solituin. The "Refresh: 0;..." header is required for correct function of SoftKey:Next which is displayed by default. But you can redefine the content of SoftKey area using your own key. Such configuration is part of DirectoryObject you sent to phone. See definition of SoftKey 3 in example bottom. It's not original SoftKey:Next that depend on Refresh header. It's my own custom soft-key named "Next" with exact URL defined as part of key definition (replace 'N' with number of next page). It doesn't depend on Refresh header in any way. You should consider such advice as "temporary workaround". You should discover how to send HTTP header 'Refresh'  from your script. Note, it's not possible to redefine one SoftKey only. If you wish to redefine a soft-key, then all soft-keys need's to be defined by you.

  • DisplayAuthor managed property does not map to any crawl property, why?

I just discovered the out of box  - DisplayAuthor managed property does not map to any crawl property, why is that? but it is still working fine when using this property as a refiner.....how does this work?

    Hi,
The DisplayAuthor managed property is different. It is  multi-valued  but has no crawled properties mapped to it. However, it represents multiple authors for a document. There is the author that is stored with the properties of a document such
as a pdf this is the original creator of the document, and then there is the SharePoint author of the document which is the the person who uploaded the document. So basically you can search on both using the DisplayAuthor.
Besides, here is a similar post, you can use as a reference:

  • Task Outcome Field - Crawled Property not created

    Hi,
SharePoint is not creating crawled property for the OOB Task Outcome
field... Is this by design or is it possible to include this field in search..
    Regards,
    Muthukumar

    Hi Muthukumar,
Per my knowledge, there is not an OOB way to create a crawled property for Task Outcome field.
As a workaround, you can try to create a new column in the tasks list, then create an Event Recevier on the tasks list to handle the item is added or updated. In the Event Recevier, sest the new column to the Task Outcome. After that, do a full crawl to
find the crawled property for the new column, and use the new column instead of Task Outcome.
More information about creating Event Recevier, please refer to the link:

  • The crawled property of Image width and height - is there a differnce when the image is png format?

    Hi,
We are indexing file share with images and get the properties of Image Width, Image Height, Image Size (we show it as refiners in SharePoint after make it managed properties). Somehow when the picture is png format - we see only Size but not height and width.
Is that any setting that should be done in the file share (when i select an image in the windows explorer window i can see all its properties, and it seems that png files do expose the width and height properties
    keren tsur

    Hi  Keren,
According to your description, my understanding is that when you tried to  crawl file share with images, the ows_ImageWidth and ows_ImageHeight crawled property for PNG  file could not be generated.
For your issue, I can reproduce your issue in my SharePoint 2013 environment. For a workaround, you can upload the PNG images into SharePoint images Library and they would work fine.

  • List column as Crawled Property not appearing

    Hi,
I have a column in a list. Can I expect it to be available as crawled property?
If crawled property is available will it be automatically mapped to Managed Property?
    Scenario-
I have a list and I created a column (List setting and created a column as Single line of text called "Foo").
To see the crawled property, I ran the full crawl but did not see the crawl property for "Foo".
Can someone please help me out here?

    Hi Sudip,
    Thanks for the response.
I did not get the answer to the first part.
Let me describe the scenario again:
Scenario-1: I have a site column and using the site column in the list. I am getting the crawled property and it is getting mapped to the managed property.
Result: I am good. Crawled property of site column is mapped to managed property.
Scenario-2:I have a list and I created a column (Go to List setting and created a column as Single line of text called "Foo").
Result: Here I don't see the crawled property getting created and mapped to Managed property.
Action taken to see the crawled property as given below:
    1. Index reset
    2. Full Crawl
Still for the Scenario-2: I don't see the crawled property.
Can I expect the crawled property to be available for created list column "Foo"?

I got the same problem and i fixed it.
If you take a look on all User Profile properties(cutsom or standard) you will note that they are all mapped to the property "ContentsHidden"(in addition of its property).
I concluded that you have to map all user profile properties to "ContentsHidden"
Please mark as usefull if it resolved the problem.

  • Crawled property category option: "Map all string properties in this category to the Content managed property"

I've been searching online, and haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this. Does anyone know what the following SharePoint 2013 Search Service Application, Crawled property category option does?
"Map all string properties in this category to the Content managed property"
It appears when editing a crawled property category.

    Hi Vishal,
There is no Official documentation explaining the setting "Map all string properties in this category to the Content managed property". In my opinion,  this setting will map all crawled properties which are in current category and
whose value is string type   to  the Content managed property.
    Thanks,

  • Need of buffering in table creation.

what is need of buffering in table creation and data class and delivey class

    Definition
The name table (nametab) contains the table and field definitions that are activated in the SAP System. An entry is made in the Repository buffer when a mass activator or a user (using the ABAP Dictionary, Transaction SE11) requests to activate a table. The corresponding name table is then generated from the information that is managed in the Repository.
The Repository buffer is mainly known as the nametab buffer (NTAB), but it is also known as the ABAP Dictionary buffer
The description of a table in the Repository is distributed among several tables (for field definition, data element definition and domain definition). This information is summarized in the name table. The name table is saved in the following database tables:
    • DDNTT (table definitions)
    • DDNTF (field descriptions)
The Repository buffer consists of four buffers in shared memory, one for each of the following:
Table definitions TTAB buffer Table DDNTT
Field descriptions FTAB buffer Table DDNTF
Initial record layouts IREC buffer Contains the record layout initialized depending on the field type
There are two kinds of table buffers:
    • Partial table buffers
    • Generic table buffers
Check this link for more details.
