Need help accessing PC's

I will be starting my Graduate School soon at a Fundamentalist seminary (www.bju.edu). Internet access here seems to be ultra filtered, and ultra blocked. I have a few questions about being able to access other computers on the Intranet.
I cant seem to be able to connect to other PC's via the normal GO - Network feature in Tiger, nor via the Connect to Server option. However on my Windows 98 laptop I can browse other workgroups.
Do I need to run a trial version of Dave? When I got my undergrad I attended a moderate Evangelical college, and they also had firewalls and Internet filtering, however they only really blocked, sex, ****, games, and other such ungodly sites. There I installed Dave and then I was able to access PC's on the network. But then again I was using OS 9.x at the time.
I thought OSX had PC network share browsing built in, but perhaps I thought wrong, and I need to install Dave.
All I know is that whatever they have installed or configured (seems to use Novell BorderManager) blocks Newsgroups, FTP, SSH, Telnet, IRC, gopher, AIM, AOL, Safari, and even Classic Internet apps, not including non supported operating systems (DOS, Windows 3.11, Windows 95, Windows CE, Mac OS 7-9, Unix, Linux, etc..).
I am not a networking expert, and perhaps the people here are, I am not sure.
Oh and I forgot that the Apple Software Update app and Quicken Direct Connect (run through Quicken software) are also blocked.
Just want to be able to access PC shares without buying Dave.
I have sent a few emails to IT, and perhaps they will be able to allow me to run Apple Software Update, Quicken Direct Connect, connect to my FTP Unix server (that I use for backups) and allow me to access my FTP web server, so I can update my website (without using Yahoo's web based option). Too bad I cant update each page via Claris Home Page like I can on a open network. But since OS 9 is not supported all apps that tunnel in that environment are blocked here, so I cant just edit one of my pages and click on the update icon here.

Autodiscovery can be hit or miss, especially when dealing with multiple workgroups/domains and with filtered networks (the chances are that since the school is filtering so much traffic, they're probably also filtering some of the auto-discovery protocols).
However, that shouldn't prevent you from conecting if you know the IP address of the server you're trying to access. You can just enter smb://ip.address.of.server/sharename/ to connect directly, without using auto-discovery to find the servers.

IMHO, the network admins need to get a clue. Blocking important services such as Software Update means that you can't apply security updates to your system, potentially leaving you vulnerable. I'd guess that they don't block access to the Windows Update servers (or there'd be real trouble with all those hacked Windows machines), so they shouldn't block access to the Apple update servers, either.

What router are you using? Almost all Linksys routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default local IP address, but there is at least one that uses 192.168.16.1 , namely the WTR54GS (not the WRT54GS).
You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank (note: a few Linksys routers have a default user name of "admin" (with no quotes)), and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.

Hard drive recently failed and iPhoto brings a -36 error when copying need help accessing image files

I recently updated my computer to mountain lion and after doing so my computer would no longer boot up. I took it to the apple store and they told me that the hard drive was damaged and needed to be replaced. They were booting my computer with an external drive and in doing so could access my computers HDD. Upon starting to drag and drop files to a new hard drive I started to get a lot of -36 errors. I proceeded to go go,e and create my own bootable thumb drive and try doing the same process with more time to look through it. I have up till now been able to copy most of my files but have run into a problem with iPhoto.
I have been searching around for a while now and have yet to find a method that helps me in my particular situation so I am now asking for help myself. I will explain what my current system of file recovery is and see if anyone can help me out.
I have since then replaced the HDD in my computer and purchased a SATA external HDD enclosure for the original drive. This allows me to still access all files and folders from the original drive. I have managed to recover a majority of the files but have recently run into a problem with the iPhoto library. Every time I try to drag and drop the iPhoto library to my new HDD it fails after "transferring" 2.02GB and tells me it has encountered a -36 error because some files cannot be read or written. I believe I am using iPhoto '09, I will check and confirm that later.
I am looking for a way to open iPhoto's library and access the image files it seems to be hiding from me. Please understand that I cannot open the iPhoto library either, I have lost access to the library entirely and want to see if there are any image files that I can save. I dont have the computer backed up recently and want to save my photos. Thanks for looking and I'm hoping someone can help.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command). Rebuild it to the Pictures Folder. This might overcome the -36 issue.
(This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.)
Failing that you're into recovering your Originals from the damaged Library and creating a new Library and starting over from scratch.

Time Capsule: Need help accessing my video surveillance DVR from the Internet.

I am using the latest 4th Generation Time Capsule attached to a DSL Modem. My 4 video Survilance DVR is connected to a switch then to the Time Capsule. How or what is needed to be able to access the DVR via the internet. I am able to access the DVR from within the home network only. Would appreciate some guidance.

Is the modem bridged?
If not and working in router mode then the TC should be bridged.. this will never work if you have double NAT.
Whichever box is the main router will need to forward the required ports for the camera dvr.. does the software use port 80 ie html?? That means you just forward port 80 to the IP address of the dvr. But find out the port.. the dvr instructions should tell you. Port forwarding on the TC.. ain't hard.. just google for the instructions. If the dsl modem is router, read its manual.
You will need to lock the ip of the dvr so it doesn't shift. Do that in the router if possible but I am not sure you can on the TC. You will need to do it on the device using a static ip.
The other thing is public IP .. do you have a static public address.. if not you will need to run dyndns. this is not available in the TC.. as most things are not available. So you will also need to check the dvr remote access instructions as it might have a dyndns client.. or you will have to use dsl modem as router even if you currently bridge it.
Sorry this is making it complicated.
Give some feedback and we can go from there.
What is the main router?
What modem is it exactly?
What make and model is the DVR? A URL to the pdf manual will help if it gets complicated.
What port do you use to access the DVR?
Is there a dyndns client in the dvr?

Need help accessing Mail files after Updgrade to OS X 10.5

I recently did an Erase and Install of my new Leopard OS X. Before doing so, I copied my complete mail file from 10.4 to an external HD.
After installing 10.5, I tried to import the old files from the HD and I get a message that says my Mail file is not compatible with this version of OS X. This is a REALLY big problem because I have 8 years worth of contacts stored in those mail files
I don't know what to do. I have since set-up new mail accounts, so I am using my Mail Program without problems. I need to know how to access my old files. I have tried everything I can think of. Any help would be appreciated.

which Mail file do you mean? the Mail application itself? that was the wrong thing to copy. the application itself contains no user data at all. all your mail data was stored inside your home directory in the folder homedirectory/Library/Mail. if you didn't back up that folder, your Mail data is gone. Your ONLY chance (and it's a small chance) of recovering your Mail data now is to use data rfecovery software like [Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1] and try to restore that Mail folder. You should do this ASAP to decrease the chance that this data will be overwritten.

Need help accessing Outlook Web Access (OWA)

I want to be able to to access Outlook Web Access (OWA) from my touch. It was part of the reason that I bought it. I don't want full crackberry functions, just the ability to see my email on OWA and shoot off a short reply. When I try to log in, I get the user name and password prompt, but then it just hangs. I saw on a prior post that someone said it just takes a long time, so I left for several hours and no movement. Our OWA is mail.company.com with normal user name and password. I have tried logging in using [email protected], domaine/username and tried accessing though OMA (which it turns out we do not have). Any help, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would also appreciate anyone telling me what info I need to get from my IT guy as he is less than helpful on this issue (He thinks that screen is to small to be useful so why should he bother trying to help).

Sorry you're having trouble... Here's my experience so far (1 week with IPT)
I have used the IPT to access to separate OWA servers with good results. It's actually more usable than I expected.
Via Outlook Web Access 2007, the Use Outlook Web Access Light checkbox is automatically checked for me when I access via the IPT.
Via Outlook Excahnge Server 2003, I use the 'basic' option.
Neither server takes more than 10-15 seconds to log in.

Need help accessing my account

I haven't used my original account in a very long time. When I first set it up I used a gift card so I could buy a game. Over time I lost the card and haven't used paypal. I'm trying to use it now but in order to get access I need to get the info of the original account. The main reason I'm not going ot use the account I'm currently on is since I only actively use the email for the original account. Is there anyway I can regain access to my account?

Need help accessing the factory default restore disk - Ideapad b5609

I am working on a friends PC. It will not start up in normal mode but will start in safe mode. This PC has Windows 7 64 bit installed.
I don't know whjat he did to this except I used Malwarebytes to remove some malware. After I removed the malware, the PC would not boot in safe mode, but would get stuck at classpnp.sys. I searched for a solution for this and the only thing I could get to work was renaming classpnp.sys to classpnp.old. This allowed the PC to boot in safe mode again but this needs to get fixed.
What I wanted to do was access the factory default restore disk, back it up to USB ( No dvd's) if possible and reinstall a fresh copy of the system. - But I don't even know if this laptop has a factory restore disk, Is there one?
The PC owner says he didn't get a dvd when he bought the PC. This person was born without arms and is not too PC literate. He uses the PC for e-mail and going to porn sites. It's possible he did have a dvd for the PC if it came with one but he just doesn't remember or even knew what it is.
I do see a Backup and Repair app in the start menu / Maintenence folder but It doesn't start from safe mode. One Key Recovery doesn't work either.. I don't know what it does but I was going to look at it to see if it will help fix the PC.
I tried a windows system recovery disk, and it says it cannot fix the problem. My friend told me this PC is over a year old so i assume it's out of warrenty.

I've already removed the malware with malwarebytes and double checked this with the offline version of Defender. The PC is over a year old.. the owner tells me it's not in warrenty. I didn't want to mess up the hidden recovery partition so i installed a fresh copy of windows 7 to C drive. Since I can now boot into C i will try to install and use OneKey recovery to access and reinstall from the hidden partition.
I understand there is an Enginers version of Onekey Recovery I may have to get if i have problems - it's the version of OKR that the OEM's use to set up the partition in the first place.. from my info anyway..
This is the second time tryiong to fix it from a fresh install on C drive. The first time had a Windows.old folder I wanted to try to reinstall stuff from, but on trying to back that up to a external hard drive via USB, the system crashed and said missing master boot record. A StartUp Repair disk ran 6 times could not fix the problem ( same disk I used to install.. told me it didn't find any problems !
Other odd behavior.. when i was copying the windows.old folder, it didn't tell me i had so many files to go.. always sais it had 0 files left to transfer.
I couldn't get the sound drivers to work even after downloading the right ones from lenovo. I even let device manager try to reinstall the drivers from the Realtek folder in the windows.old folder - those should have worked - and the pc told me that the drivers matches and were up to date - however, the error i get told me there is a problem with the drivers and installation would fail when i tried to install from the downloaded exe.
I have been fixing my own systems for over 20 years, i have never seen a system as screwy as this with a fresh install.

Need help accessing itunes files on a share

My roommate was running out of space on her macbook, so I created a share on my iMac which has 1TB of space.
We moved all of her music from her computer to the shared space on my computer
I redirected iTunes on her computer to make the share on my computer the default path to play music from
I opened finder on her computer and dragged all the music into iTunes. Everything worked fine. It was playing the music files from my computer on her iMac.
On her macbook, I unmounted the connection to her share on my iMac and reconnected. She can still read and write to the Itunes folder on my iMac, but now when we try to launch iTunes, a message comes up saying "The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." So now I can't even run iTunes because it automatically closes after this message comes up.
This doesn't make sense because a) she does have write read/write permissions b) the songs worked just fine until i unmounted/remounted and c) even though Itunes says we don't have access, we do because we can still navigate to the music files on the share from her macbook.

Update:
I removed the "iTunes Library" file from Home>>Music>>iTunes, which allowed me to get back into iTunes, but I don't know how to connect to the files without it locking up again in the event that the mount to her share on my iMac becomes unmounted again.

I NEED HELP: accessing 2 forms in secuence, with 2 different users

I have this problem:
I run a FORM call MENU-PPAL, with the user PAUL.
While in MENU-PPAL, I click on the option CUSTOMERS, that runs the form CUSTOMERS,
but ...
BEFORE running the form CUSTOMERS, I need to re-connect to the database with the user ADMIN and then run the form CUSTOMERS.
And also, after the execution of CUSTOMERS, I need to re-connect again with PAUL while returning to the form MENU-PPAL.
Any ideas how to do it?

CONNECT admin/admin;
OPEN_FORM('CUSTOMERS');

All this thing to have 2 users and reconnect is because I don't want any users to connect to same tables on my database using ODBC, with and Excel Spreadsheet.
So, the user Paul only sees same tables, a few, that aren't important. But when Paul try to access the important data, I need to reconnect with a secret user (that no one knows), ADMIN, to do all the transactions.
And when Paul decides to exit the program, I need to reconnect him with his normal user.
That's all!

I need help accessing my Mac email

My problem is on my iPad I have no problem using my iTunes however when I try to sign in on my iPhone it has a different email ( Mac.com) I can't reset it because I can't figure out how to access that account.

so for some reason my itunes doesnt let me get to the itunes store. it doesnt let me sign in to my itunes account and when i go into the itunes store through the internet is says. itunes can not proccess the request ( error 11223) please help me

Go up to the top of your screen on iTunes and click on 'Store'. Then go down to 'Authorize This Computer'. That should cover part of it unless you've already authorized a bunch of other computers to use your account. If that's the case, you'll have to go to one of those computers and click the button just below it to 'deauthorize your account' from that computer. If you're not able to access the store, check your internet connection to make sure you are connected. Hope this helps.. good luck!

I need help accessing my account

Adobe have in their wisdom set me up with multiple accounts - probably a new one for every purchase I've made and I've been buying Adobe products for more than 15 years.
Some of these [my] accounts have IDs that are NOT email addresses. One of these non-email accounts has the information I need to install my software - my serial numbers. Problem is, I've forgotten my password and one can only reset passwords on account IDs that ARE email addresses.
This situation has been going on for years and each time I bring up the issue, the Adobe contact says they will fix the problem, but it never gets fixed.
My problem now: I want to install my software so that I can complete my assignment (deadline - yesterday), but I don't have the serial number. What can I do? And how can I get Adobe to fix the mess they created?

I have spoken to someone from Adobe who advises me that THEY can't merge accounts. As I can't access the account under the non-email ID (which is why I couldn't get the information I needed) how could I fuse the accounts myself.
I have repeatedly asked for my account situation to be resolved, but despite each contact saying they will fix the problem, it hasn't been fixed. As I said in my original message, this has been going on for years. I purchased software prior to the CS creation and have since purchased CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6. Yet the only CS that is registered on the account I can access is CS5. The other software has, I assume, been attached to the other accounts. Possibly one for each purchase. This may continue. Heaven knows how many accounts I will end up with.
If you can tell me how I can
1. Access these other accounts and, 2. Fuse them together, I would be eternally grateful

New Mac user, need help accessing windows shares

Hi All,
I have a new MBP 13" and want to be able to easly access shared folder on my PC network. None of the PC's appear under the 'Shared' left menu in the finder, not even my aging eMac.
I have successfully used connect to server and smb the pc name, but this seems to wok once, then when I go to reuse it, i can not access it again. deleting the save server favourite and rebooting works occasionally, however for the most part it is bery hit and miss. My thoery is that if you can access it once, you should be able to again and again.
Obviously none of my pc's have any issues accessing the shares, it is just the mac . I have input the windows workgroup in the WINS section of Network Settings as well as my router ip address.
Can anyone advise how to get the pc's to appear under the shared tab in the finder.
At the moment, I am starting to regret buying the Macbook Pro, and really thought this type of issue would have been sorted out on the Mac side by now. But alas, it seems that I will just use windows 7 on the macbook pro until I can get this sorted. I can't not have access to windows data stores.
Any help will be appreciated. I have tried to resolve this by viewing similar threads, but have not found a reliable solution yet.
