Need help converting old Applescript for Snow Leopard

Ok, so I've downloaded the app "PowerHour" for mac. It needs to use the date function which is different in Snow Leopard, so I've heard. I don't program in Apple Script so I can't figure out what syntax to use. Can anyone help me fix this code below?
I'm trying to code this because I don't think the original developer has any hand in this program anymore.
The app on macupdate: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24107/power-hour
Here's the part that is giving the errors:
set gameLengthAsDate to (date (zeroTime)) + (enteredMinutes * minutes)
set songLengthAsDate to date (songLength)
set gameStart to current date
set songStart to gameStart
set gameEnd to gameStart + (time of gameLengthAsDate)
set songEnd to songStart + (time of songLengthAsDate)

AppleScript in Snow Leopard is a bit pickier about specifying dates. From the AppleScript Release Notes, "the [date] string must exactly match one of the system date formats".
It looks like the script is using a shortcut to set the time of the current date. I didn't test a modified application (just that the script statements set a valid date), but you might give the following a try:
1) change the following properties (declared at the beginning of the script)property zeroTime : 0
property songLength : 60
2) change the statements that set the time toset gameLengthAsDate to (current date)
set time of gameLengthAsDate to zeroTime + (enteredMinutes * minutes)
set songLengthAsDate to (current date)
set time of songLengthAsDate to songLength

I originally using OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. My MacBook drive files Corrupted and cannot repair need to erase the whole drive. I scraped my MacBook and has been restored to original Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger that came with the MacBook. Cause I cannot do the restore. Now I have a problem, I don't remember where I got the upgrade to Mac OS X10.5 Leopard. But I have the Upgrade DVD of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I try to upgrade my Mac OS, But I can't it keep telling me that the OS Version is not OS X 10.5.
    Don't know what to do.

I should said that I remember I used a upgrade DVD Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Back then it has no problem to upgrade from 10.4 Tiger. I Remeber I bought the retail upgrade DVD, but couldn't find it.
I used the Upgrade DVD - Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard that is bundle with my iMac (my other Mac that bought in some time late 2009) . On the DVD it stamped "This Software is part of a hardware bundle- not to be sold separately.
It may be the problem that would not Allow me to upgrade?

I don't see how you could have downloaded Snow Leopard, when it's not available as a download and never has been.
    Please explain.

i need some help i have just got the Mac OS X as i have recently been given a mac with 1.83 GHz Intel core 2 duo and on 10.4.11. However it says i dont have enough ram how can i solve this?

    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/memory
Other than Apple there are only two vendors with which I have personal experience and can recommend: Crucial and OWC. People have reported problems with many other brands, yet Crucial and OWC's prices are as good as any you are likely to find. Patriot is another brand recommended by ASC contributors but I have no experience with them.
Go to Crucial and download the little app that examines your system and recommends RAM upgrade options.
Their prices are good but don't have to buy memory from them - determine what you need and buy it from Crucial or OWC / MacSales.

  • Help! I need to downgrade Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard

Hello, I know this seems to be a major issue, but i'm going to try to see if someone can help.
    Here's my scenario
I have an iMac i purchased in October 2010, and i have all of the original install discs, since owning the computer i've installed Lion and then  Mountain Lion
I recently purchased a brand new mac, and want to sell the iMac.
I've done this a number of times (clean installs) and didn't realize this was going to be such an ordeal.  I need help!
-I have all of my files off the iMac completely and on my new computer
-I've already zeroed out the hard drive
    -reinstalled Mountain Lion
so there is absolutely nothing on the computer i need...
    From this point
How do i get it back to Snow Leopard? and/or Do i even have to?
Thanks, please let me know if i need to clarify anything

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

Restart with the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD in the drive or with the Lion USB drive connected, hold down the Option key just after the restart, tab to the installation disk, and press Enter. If the computer has a firmware password set, it needs to be provided for this to work.

I concur w/Allan. Don't use those apps. They're not needed and can muck things up. For maintaining a Mac, see:

  • HT4163 Need iPhoto 9.0 for Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I have an old macbook running 10.6.8.  I want iPhoto version 9 ('11), but all I can find in the app store is version 9.3, which only runs on Lion.  I want iPhoto for Snow Leopard.  I can see no reason why Apple has forsaken Snow Leopard. There is no reason why the App store can't have version 9.0 so both Lion and Snow Leopard users can buy it and update it to suit individual needs.  Does anyone know how to get version 9.0 for Snow Leopard online?

Just a follow-up.  I did purchase iLife '09 on eBay and it works smoothly. A few hiccups. I mistakenly did an "upgrade install" of OS X, twice.  "Upgrade installs" take a long, long time to do, and in the end, just don't work.  It turned out that the utilities menu that I needed to access in order to reformat and do a "clean install' was pushed right off the screen where I could not see it, due to a faulty video driver matchup on the install disk.  The result was that I wasn't sure what kind of install I was doing.
So, now I have a mini-Mac that works just like it used to, but really with no perceptible advantage to what I had before, just a few bucks lighter, and many hours of effort.  The good news is that my older mini-Mac (read the Apple fine print carefully on which Intel processors do and don't work) will run Snow Leopard, albeit a little slower than Tiger.  Hopefully, Apple technology and the various software upgrades required to browse the Internet will stay compatible with Snow Leopard for a while yet.  But the Apple mini-Mac takes the cake for the poorest backward compatibility I've run across since I began with computers in the late 1960s.

Technical issues aside, there's still a legal issue.
Neither 2006 nor 2007 MacBooks shipped with Snow Leopard 'factory' installed. OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard became available in September 2009. So you purchased and installed a Snow Leopard upgrade disc on the 2007 system at some point.
If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a single-user copy, then legally, you need to purchase another one for the second computer. If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a Family Pack 5-user license, then you're good to go.

If you have an active MobileMe account, Apple was giving away a single-user upgrade copy of Snow Leopard for a limited time, and you should have received an email with a link, or been offered the opportunity when you signed in to your MobileMe account on the web:
    http://www.macrumors.com/2012/04/24/free-snow-leopard-discs-for-mobileme-users-n ow-arriving/
Worst case, single-user Snow Leopard upgrade discs are $29 retail, direct from Apple. I'd hate to have two computers and no OS installation CD's for whatever version I'm currently using.

  • I have Os Lion on my mac book pro, im not a fan of this because i cant run many games, i have the disk for snow leopard my machine came with but i get a error saying "unable to unmount disc" when i try erase my hard drive i just want OS SL back any help?

    many thanks Carl.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

  • Old OS needing Update but can't find Snow Leopard

I'm still running on Leopard but now HAVE to update my OS because Leopard isn't supported by anything.  To get Lion or Mountain Lion I have to first have Snow Leopard, but I can't find it anywhere!  How do I get it?!

First check that your machine can accept Snow Leopard ...
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -        Read the Technical Specification
Not much point in buying before you know.
Note.  You can no longer buy Snow Leopard from an Apple retail store, only as follows.  Neil has given you the phone number for North America ... but
In Europe or otherwise … call your National Apple Helpline … http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Once you have bought and upgraded you will need to apply the Combo updater for Snow Leopard.          Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

  • I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard. Now there is a new Xcode for Lion, so I downloaded the new one but the installed continued to be the old one. Now App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me to re-download Xcode. How can I proceed?

I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard 12 days ago. After installing Lion I saw there is a new FREE Xcode for it, so I downloaded the new one but after installing automatically Xcode for Lion the Developer folder contained the old one. I deleted the old Xcode but the App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me re-download Xcode.
How can I proceed? I'm guessing whether this problem will occur each time I buy an application from App Store.

Yes, that's righ, Xcode installer was in the Apps folder. I assumed it had been automatically installed and the installer deleted after installation (the same way as Lion is installed).
I tried also the procedure for redownloding applications, and MAS showed both Xcodes (Lion and Snow Leopard) and OS X Lion. We see that buttons for Lion and Xcode for Snow Leopard say 'Install' but Xcode for Lion says 'installed' because there is an Install Scode in the Apps folder.
    Thank you.
