Need help cutting out images

Hey
I realize what Im asking for might be complicated. But any
help or direction I can get will be appreciated.
I want to right something that will take a photo realistic
image, say maybe a 400x300 photo of anything really, and cut out
peices of the photo, so that I can manipulate these peices after.
For example...if its a photo of a guy riding a bike and hes wearing
a blue shirt....I want to cut out the blue shirt part and change
its color on the fly, just by clicking on the blue shirt.
Any ideas??
Oh and does this process have a name?

Yes, you're right - it is complicated!
The reason is that with a photo of a guy wearing a blue
shirt, that blue shirt is actually made up of hundreds of different
subtle shades of blue.
So to implement this, you'd need to perform a number steps,
some of which are fairly complex:
1) allow the user to select a point in the image
2) read the colour at that point. You might find you need to
take an average of a small area around that point to get a better
approximation of the percieved colour at that point because the
colour of pixels within a seemingly 'flat' area of colour can
actually vary significantly. (this is why the photoshop inkdropper
tool offers 3x3 and 5x5 average options).
3) gradually 'scan' outwards from the pixel coordinate
clicked on, checking each adjacent pixel in the image and comparing
the difference in colour value against the initial colour selected
(using getPixel). If it is within a certain tolerance, you can
include it in the selection. You'll need to create an array or
another image object to store the results in. Repeat this process
until there are no more adjacent pixels that fall within the colour
tolerance range.
4) Use an RGB->HSB routine to convert the colour values to
HSB, so that you can then adjust the 'Hue' value, and finally
convert back to RGB. I have one here:
http://robotduck.com/content/articles/director/imageManipulation/shiftHue.txt
And whether it has a name?..
well, the tool which selects an area within a certain colour
range in photoshop is called the 'magic wand', so I guess that's a
good way to refer to it - a magic wand function. And to change the
colour by 'rotating' the colour values through the colour spectrum
(which is what my example code does) is called 'shifting the hue'
of the colours.
hope this helps!

  • Need help cutting out a middle section of a song!

I have a song that I want to cut out a large portion of the middle.
I have no Garageband experience, so googled/youtubed info.
I THINK I have properly split in the two places where the cut needs to be made, but when I delete that portion between the 2 splits, I cannot get it to join properly! It's like only a small bit has been deleted, NOT what I split and deleted!
Please help!!! I need this done by today!
    Thanks so much!

That should work. Have you "Snap to Grid" enabled? Then turn the grid off; you toogle it on and off in the "control" menu in the main menu bar (Choose Control > “Snap to Grid ⌘G).

  • Need help cutting out unwanted song

I have about a 4 and a half minute movie clip I made, but it has turned into over 7 minutes long because of a song which continues past the end of the video. How do I cut out that last 3 minutes of the song to have my movie stop exactly when the video does?

you edit audio same as video:
    switch to timeline view..
    select audio track...
    set playhead to 'edit' point..
hit Apple-T (that splits the audio track...)
    select unwanted part
    hit delete
    done.

  • Need help cutting out an uneven section

I have a picture that I have drawn and scanned into Photoshop Elements 6. What I need to do is cut around the image so it is just the actual picture no background. The image is an uneven oval.

You can use any of the selection tools to isolate the part of the image you want and then save as a new document.
If there is a difference between the drawing and the background that you scanned on you could try using the magic wand to select the background (then invert the selection to get the drawing) or use the magnetic or polygonal lasso to select the drawing. Once you have your selection, copy it (ctrl-C) then go to File>New and paste what you copied into the new document.
For the uneven oval shape you will want to save the new document in a format that supports transparency (GIF, for example). Without transparency, your image will always look like a rectangle, even if only the oval is 'there'.

  • Cut out images on Premiere Pro

Okay well I was just wondering how they usually cut out images and put them on videos with premiere pro? I see some people doing videos that allow this. Below I have a attached a symbol "ten" I want to insert that into a video, but when I insert it you still see the white around it. Any specific program I have to use to cut out the white and put it onto a video?

    Dino,
Unfortunately, the links you provided do not work on my browser, IE7, and the images do not disply.
Let me take a guess at what you wish to do. You want a graphic "10" with the video showing though it. Is that even close? If it is, you want the Track Matte Keying Effect. This will require that you have your background Video on Video Track 1 (VT1), your "inset footage" on VT2, your Track Matte Keying "matte" on VT3, and then add the Track Matte Keying Effect to your video on VT2, linking to the matte on VT3. You have a few settings, like Luma/Alpha and Invert. You may need to experiment with each of these, to get your desired effect.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS Help and the manual have much more information on Track Matte Keying, as does this tutorial on another use for it. Different application, but the principle is the exact same.

  • I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What to do?

I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What can I do to prevent this?

What is the resolution of the image that you "dragged"? The resolution is the number in pixels per inch (ppi). If you dragged a significantly lower resolution file into a higher resolution file, it could result in a blurry image.

  • Importing Cut Out Images from Photoshop w/out White Background?

    Hello Everyone,
I am brand new to Illustrator. I have been a Photoshop user all these years. I am trying to import a photo to Illustrator CS5 that I cutout using this method:
    http://thedesigned.com/2009/08/21/how-to-cut-out-images-like-a-professional-in-photoshop/
Unfortunately it superimposes itself into Illustrator with a white background when I thought it would be transparent surrounding the image. I opened the file in Illustrator as a PSD. But I tried .jpg as well. Anyone know how to work around this?
    Thanks!
    Randall

Well from the looks of the tutorial which leaves a lot of info out you ended up flattening the image so that the background is now white but that is hard to tell from the tutorial.
If your background is white you should rmove it in in photoshop and save the image as a psd with no background layer only a transparent layer of the subject.
Then place that .psd in Illustrator and your background will be transparent.
I suggest placing it rather than opeining it in AI.
Like such: (even my signature is a psd on a tansparent layer.)

  • 'cut-out' images from Photoshop import into FCE with unwanted background

I want to import some custom 'cut-out' images from Photoshop, but they come into FCE with a rectangular background around them. Is there a way to import just the irregular 'cut-out' image?

Make sure the images are RGB 8-bit and in a format that carries an alpha channel or Photoshop transparency like Photoshop, TIFF, PNG, even PICT.

If you were using Apple's BootCamp and received this message, quit it and open Disk Uility in your Applicaitons/Utilities folder.
Select the Macintosh HD partition on the left and select Erase and Erase Free Space > Zero option and let it complete (important) this will check the spare space for bad sectors that can cause issues formatting partitions.
Once it's completed, try creating a partiton again in BootCamp.
If that doesn't work, then hold command option r keys down while connected to a fast internet connection, Internet Recovery should load (spinning globe) and then in that Disk Utility, select your entire internal drive and click > First Aid > Repair Disk and Permissions.
    reboot and attempt Bootcamp again.
If you still get a error, it might be that you have OS X data on the bottom area where BootCamp partition needs to go. This would occur if you had the drive or computer for a long time or wrote a large amount of files to the drive and nearly filling it up and then reduced some, but it left traces in the area BootCamp needs to go.
    To fix this
BootCamp: "This disc can not be partitioned/impossible to move files."

I have a mac 10.5 and need help figuring out how to change my email settings so it does not automatically delete my inbox every 30 days.  How to I adjust the mail settings?

I think it must be an IMAP account then, & in Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced>Keep copies for Offline viewing:>Don't keep copies, then on the Server, or maybe it's just this one itself, but on the Server you have a setting to remove eMails after 30 days.
If it's a POP account we'd have to investigate that... but you didn't say so I'm guessing here.

Try using the app My Contacts Backup, which will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email.  Send this email to yourself, open it on your Mac and double-click the attachment to import them to Address Book (or Contacts if you have Mountain Lion).

  • Need help with getting images to look smooth (without the bitmap squares) around the edges. When I transfer the image from pictures, it sets itself into the InDesign layout, but with square edges. I need to find out how to get it to look smooth?

Need to find out how to get my images transferred into an InDesign layout without the rough edges, as with a bit map image, but to appear with smooth edges in the layout. I can notice it more when I enlarge the file (pic). How can I get it to appear smooth in the finished layout. Another thing too that I noticed; it seems to have effected the other photos in the layout. They seem to be
pixelated too after I import the illustration (hand drawn artwork...)? Any assistance with this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No Clipboard, no copy & paste, as you would not get the full information of the image.
When you paste you can't get the image info from the Links panel, but you can get resolution and color info either via the Preflight panel or by exporting to PDF and checking the image in Acrobat.
Here I've pasted a 300ppi image, scaled it, and made a Preflight rule that catches any image under 1200ppi. The panel gives me the effective resolution of the pasted image as 556ppi. There are other workflow reasons not to paste—you loose the ability to easily edit the original and large file sizes—but pasting wouldn't cause a loss in effective resolution or change in color mode.

  • Cutting out images in indesign, clipping path problems

    Hi,
I have been putting images of my drawings from photoshop onto indesign for my portfolio,  after looking around the only way I can seem to find to cut them out is using clipping path/detect edges.
The problem I have is because they are scanned sketches this method produces really inacurate and shoddy results and no matter how much I play around with the threshold and tollerance this means I still have to mess around with the pen and arrow tool for ages on each image.
Is there a quicker solution to cutting them out like the magic wand or lasoo tool on indesign?
It has taken days now in in design , I have all the images already cut out from their original pages on photoshop but the white box always comes around again when I drag or place the images in indesign.
I have been shorcutting some pages and doing layout on photoshop and placing the image behind which works fine sometimes but is really inconviiant when I want to move the layout around text ot anything...... i have attatched some pictures to show you what I mean.
Thanks for your help in advance
