  • I need help exporting Apple Mail messages to Outlook for MAC 2011

    Good morning,
I need help exporting Apple Mail messages to Outlook for MAC 2011. Please....

It is possible to do this without external tools, but it is a tremendous faff. See
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/import-ema il-from-mail-to-outlook-2011/5e858173-e1f4-4adc-99d7-253cc467169d?page=2 for details.
The easiest way, however, is to use Mail Exporter Pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mail-exporter-pro/id675131616?mt=12 which will convert the email for you from one format to the other, and comes with an excellent manual.
A third possibility is to connect Apple Mail to an email account via IMAP (this doesn’t have to be your usual account, you can just create a Gmail account for the purpose) . Copy all the messages into it and they will be uploaded. Then connect Outlook 2011 to the same account, via IMAP again, and let the messages download, then copy them to wherever you want to keep them and disconnect from that account. This is slow but preserves the attributes of your email (e.g. read/unead) better than any other method.

  • Need help using Apple Remote Desktop for remote family members

I am new to ARD and need help. I know there are solutions to do what I am trying to do through LogMeIn and Teamviewer - but I have LogMein right now and the free edtition is going away and I think Teamviewer will do the same sooner or later. I have remote desktop but hadnt used it, so I thought it would be a good thing to implement so I wont have to worry about paying fees for services like LogMein or teamviewer down the road.  Long story short I need to be able to remote help friends and family members with their macs and using applications, mostly through screen sharing and control and file sharing. All of the folks id like to help have home ( not business style ) internet service whith DHCP and non-static IP's.  I have set this up for myselft to test it and I can be at work and search my homes IP address and I can see all the macs with ARD on them and it all works perfectly.  I have a mac mini running Lion Server so the ports are forwarded to that server at my home - this is the only think I can think of that is making my home work and my friends not.  But when I try to help my friends and family after I type in their IP and it scans it sees their computer - ( it shows a grayed out icon and their IP ) but nothing else.  I cannot control or screen share. It says it cannot verify.  I helped my friends put the ARD client ( most up to date client ) on their macs as well.  I was hoping that using ARD would mean not haivng to set up my friends and family's routers for port fowarding and all those details.  Is there anything I can do using ARD to be able to type in my friends IP address have it scan and then see all their MACS at their home and pick the one that needs attention/ help, without port forwarding or heavy set up ?  I guess the root question here is how or what is best way to set up ARD to be used to help people remotley when they are all home users as well, no port forwarding, no static-IP, that kinda thing.
Any help is appreciated - Im trying to use ARD and not a 3rd party app since im afraid even if they are free now they wont stay that way. Please let me know throughts and sugesstions ;p)

I poked around a bit and the file seems to be:
    /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/mms.cfg
I'd like to get some confirmation from Adobe that this is the correct file to push, though (it seems like it as it only contains this):
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1

  • Need help with Apple Store stock

    Hi there!!
I'll be on a business travel to NY in one month and i'm planning to buy a 15" MBP 2.0 with the Anti-Glare display.
Probably i'll be buying it on the 5th avenue store, and now i have two choices.
I'm travelling from Spain, so getting the Western Spanish keyboard is almost mandatory.
The two choices i've got are:
1.- I've read the store can swap the keyboard in 1-2 days if needed. So, this would be a great choice not to have any problems with the credit card and the billing address. But i'd need to know if they have computers in the store with the specs (anti-glare) so i can go and buy it on the fly (asking them for a keyboard swapping)
Does anyone know (or has the chance to know) if they stock the 15" MBP with the Anti-Glare option in any apple store?
2.- I'll be staying 4-5 days in Florida prior to flying to NY, so i thought of customizing and ordering it throught the Online Apple Store, paying with an apple gift card and have it shipped to my hotel. The apple store states that it will take 6-7 days to have it delivered, so i guess i would be in time before i come back (the trip will take 11 days).
    What do you suggest?
Is anyone able to help me and check if i could find it with the anti-glare option in the apple store in the 5th avenue?
    Thanks a lot in advance!!!!!

Thanks " a brody". I know about the spanish customs and about the sales tax in different states.
The only thing that makes me "nervous" is that i get there and they don't have an anti-glare computer in stock. I've read on several threads that they usually have the anti-glare option in stock in the stores, but just wanted to double check.
I'm travelling a lot lately from one country to another, so calling is a bit difficult because of time differences.
Thanks a lot for your help!!!

  • Need help contacting Apple customer service to order Leopard—if available

For the last couple of days I have been unsuccessfully trying the various phone number for Apple customer service given on these board by several very helpful contributors.  I've also tried the numbers listed on the Apple web site.
The recorded announcements say either that I have reached a texting number or a discontinued number that is no longer in service.
Does anyone have a valid number?
I need a leopard retail install disc for my G5 Quad and for my MDD Dual G4, just in case I should ever need Leopard.  I'm sticking with Tiger on my main boot volume, as I want occassional access to Classic.
    Thanks in advance.

Great deal, do let us know!
Well, well, well… I got the Leopard 10.5.6 install package from eBay-seller "Mac-Central" (link above).  This is what they do:  They take the "Mac Box Set Family Pack"—available, for instance at Amazon for $230 ( http://www.amazon.com/Mac-Box-Family-Pack-VERSION/dp/accessories/B001AMLQ6O )—which is a Mac software bundle consisting of three packages, the Leopard 10.5.6 install retail disc, iLife 09 and iWork09, and divide it into three separate items.
What I got was the Leopard 10.5.6 install retail disc from that set.
Of course, it does work on all my Macs, from the beige G3 tower with a Sonnet G4 processor upgrade, through my MDD Dual G4, the G5 Quad and the Intel MacBook.
I suppose this is legal, and at least it serves my purposes.
They include a one page note that says, in sum:
"As advertised, this is a family pack.  This piece of software came out of a sealed Mac Box Set Family pack…
"We guarantee that your software is a family pack and that you will get all 5 installs…
"Also as advertised, Apple does not supply a serial number with this product.
"If you… [want] to register… the product number on the outer retail box… MB998Z/A.
"Thank you so much, the guys at Mac Central"
So, that's what it is.  For US $135.99.

  • Need help with Apple ID login for iCloud/MobileMe to move Calendar.

Despite the multiple warnings from Apple that MobileMe would be shutting down on June 30 & that I needed to migrate my "stuff," I didn't realize that my iCal calendar on my Mac & iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) was through my MobileMe account (@me.com login) and not my "main" Apple ID account (which is a Gmail login), so I didn't bother doing anything to migrate my "stuff" because I hardly ever used my MobileMe account, or so I thought. That said, my life revolves around my iCal calendar-- can't live without it! Two days ago I started getting a pop-up message on my Mac that says "iCal can’t log in to your “[email protected]” account because your password may be incorrect." It was while I went through Preferences to fix this that I realized my MobileMe account was the master one for iCal! I know that my password was correct, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that MobileMe is now shut down that caused the pop-up in the first place. Meanwhile, my calendars are not syncing between my devices, which is something I'd like to resolve ASAP!
I'd like to push everything over to iCloud, but I noticed that for some (dumb) reason, I used my MobileMe account login for iCloud as well! Is there any way to merge or replace my MobileMe account with my Gmail Apple ID account so that my iCloud is no longer tied to MobileMe, since that program is now defunct? If not, at the very least, any help you could provide on how to transfer my calendar to the Cloud would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Nevermind. Figured out the answer myself! Just had to dig a little deeper into the Apple Support Community than I had before I posted!

  • Need help changing Apple ID without losing info

I have 3 Iphones linked to the same Apple ID.  2 are mine and 1 is my fathers who is not too saavy with Iphones which is why it's been linked to mine to help him.  He has since upgraded from the 3 to a 4s (like I said, he's behind the times) and was wanting to move his content from one phone to the other.  First off, the Apple 'Genius's' were anything but 'Genius' when it came to helping him.  So he ended up having to ship his phone 3k miles to me to help.  I was able to back up his phone and attempted to create a new Apple ID for his phone.  Then I realized it had changed my phones ID's to the same as the one I made for him.  I have since switched both of my personal phones back to the original ID's, but his phone still has the old/new ID I created for his phone but comes up as not 'verified' since I changed my 2 back to the original ID.  If you're still reading this and I haven't lost you yet then maybe you can help.  My question in a nutshell is how do I give him his own ID without losing the content he has on this phone?  He can't sync from ICloud because it will import all of my info onto his phone as well.  I would really like to get this resolved so I can send him back his phone asap and not worry about further issues if and when he needs to backup or sync his phone to his own account without my info transferring as well.

All your content is saved to you computer it's self so u shouldn't lose anything.  However, when in doubt back it up.  Do a back up of your content just to give yourself leave of mind that way you have it if it does get lost.  I changed my account without losing anything.  U should be fine

  • Need help with Apple TV + Airport Express setup

I am newbie to this whole Apple thing. Just switched from Windows world (20+ years of torture) to MacBook Pro about 6 months ago. Loving every minute of it.
    Here's what I currently have...
I have a 4000+ sq.ft. home with 3 levels on a 1-acre lot. I have 5 zones for music/movies - 7.1 dedicated Home Theater (lower level), 5.1 HT system for casual TV watching in Family Room, 2.1 system (music only) in my Home Office, 2.1 system (music only) in my Master Bedroom, 5.1 HTiB in Kids Bedroom. All systems have dedicated AVRs/Speakers/Subs (Denon, Harmon Kardon, Yamaha, Polk, Energy, Klipsch etc.).
I have 2 MacBook Pros and 2 Windows Laptops. I have AirportExtreme running a wireless network throughout the house. I have NAS attached to AE. I use iTunes to manage all my media content. I also have a iPhone 3G.
I have ripped all my CDs in Apple Lossless format into iTunes. I listen to free internet radio stations (NO Napster, Raphsody or other subscription-based services). Sometimes watch/listen free video/audio podcasts. I do NOT rent or buy movies/music via iTunes or any other source (just buy old-fashioned CDs/DVDs when neeeded).
Here's what I want to accomplish...
    1. Ability to "wirelessly" stream media to any or all zones.
    2. Central, easy to use controller for all systems.
    3. Should be able to accomplish this functionality without having to keep PC/Mac running.
Ques 1: I have considered Sonos option, but it can't do video content. So, I guess my options are Apple TV + 5 Airport Expresses. Is that correct? Will I be able to accomplish my goal with this setup? Anything I need to be aware of, e.g, network connectivity/slowdown issues, system reliability issues, ease-of-use etc.?
Ques 2: One of the major benefits of Sonos system is the ability to play different music in different zones. From what I understand, this is NOT possible with AppleTV + AirportExpress + iTunes setup. Is that correct?
What if I have iTunes running on 2 separate laptops. Can one laptop play it's own playlist via AirExp-1 and the other laptop play a different playlist via AirExp-2 & AirExp-3? Is this possible? If yes, then I guess this may "simulate" the zoning effect of Sonos (albeit thru 2 separate controllers; but it works for my needs).
Ques 3: I have a MobileMe account to keep my MBP and iPhone in sync. I have lot of Photo Albums in MobileMe Gallery and also in iPhoto on my MBP. How can this me viewed via AppleTV? Would I have to move my iPhoto from MBP to AppleTV HDD?
Ques 4: Currently my iTunes library resides on my MBP. Is there any benefit of putting it on AppleTV HDD?
Ques 5: Can AppleTV HDD be used as backup drive for Time Machine. Currently, I have no choice but to buy Apple Time Capsule to use as wireless backup drive for my MBP; I can't use my NAS for this purpose (From what I've read on forums, I think Apple removed this functionality).
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

    >and Verizon Fios w/ 50mg upload and 25 mg download.
Your internet connection is not relevant this is all runnig across your home network.
    >- I want to be able to backup all of my photos, movies and music
Time Machine on MacOS will will already take care of this for you.
    >- I want to store all of my movies on a separate devise that wont clog up my mac book pro
So put then do that.  You said you have two external drives. (As long as they both have network support)  Put the content on one of them and make the other one the back up.
    > (ideally I would like a wireless connection)
While technically possible not a great idea.  Streaming video over WiFi is usally problemattic and so are large scale data set backups.
    >- I want to be able to watch those stored movies through ATV (via itunes)
Only going to work when your Mac is on with iTunes running, but can be done.

  • Need help with Apple Display 20" going black

    There support and mac comrades,
I was wondering if anyone has this following problem and had it fixed.
I am currently using double 20" Apple display on a Mac Pro, and suddenly one of the screen start to turn black and get back to normal after few seconds. A week later, the screen goes totally black and won't turn on anymore. However, after shutting down the computer and removing and re-pluging all cables, the screen comes back alive for couple hours. In the beginning I taught that it was the cables so I swap the cable of the two screens around but the same screen is having the same problem. Then I start to think that it is because of the graphic cards, so I tried on another Power G5 and same problem occur after couple hours.
Now I know, that this screen is defect and not caused by cables or graphic cards, is there any troubleshooting for this kind of problem?
    Please help!
    Sincerly,
    Jean

The display is brighter in the upper half then the lower one.
This indicates the lower back light is out, or a component called an inverter has failed, or a connector to these things has failed, and the short/short/long flashing power button is a signal telling you that.  There is no way to stop the flashing unless you fix the failed component.
I do not recommend attempting fixing this problem yourself.  Inverters can have relatively high voltage and could be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

  • Need help with Apple TV connected to a Bose system

I have a new Apple TV that I have installed with a Bose Lifestyle 28 home theater system connected by an optical cable.   The TV is also connected to a Directv box with the Directv box being connected to the Bose system via an Optical cable.  I get Dolby 5.1 when watching the Directv but when I put a movie from Netflix on the Apple TV, I get a message on the Bose:  PCM 2.0.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why I don't get Dolby 5.1 on this setup?

    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

  • Need help identifying Apple Wireless Mouse

I was given a PowerBook G4 laptop at a recent Mac user group meeting.  My plan for the computer is to donate the laptop and the parts and pieces given to me to a local agency.  The agency will then give it so some family that needs but can't afford a computer.
The computer came with Tiger, and I have the disks.  But the (presumed) original owner has installed 10.5 Leopard and I have the disk for that.
In looking around Apple, I think this is a bluetooth version of the Mighty Mouse.  But I've been unable to locate a photo that matches this mouse.
It looks like a Mighty Mouse on the outside, but remove the battery cover and it doesn't match any photo and/or manual I've found.
At the end of the mouse where the sliding switch/LED cover is located, and under the cover, there is a sliding switch marked + and -.  On the batt cover, the Model is A1015 but a search has returned 0 results.
I assume that to turn the mouse on, you slide the cover to expose the LED light.  And, the light should turn on.  But, it doesn't.  The batteries are good.
In looking at the mouse, I think the sliding cover should depress what I'll call a switch, ahen when I manually depress the switch, the LED turns on, and is discovered.  Without the light on, the computer will not discover the mouse.  After discovery, and continuing to hold the switch down to keep the LED on, the mouse will not pair up to the computer.  Just for FYI, I get the same results trying to pair to my iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Which leaves me with the following questions:
    Is this a Mighty Mouse?
Is there a manual and/or photo of this mouse somewhere?
Should the red LED turn on when the sliding cover exposes the LED?
Will it only work with Tiger?
Is there something small that is missing from the battery cover that would depress the switch properly?
Does it only work with Tiger?
What does the switch with the + and - do?
    Ken

    Hi, twtwtw,
well, without having it in hand I can't really see how it's supposed to attach or what exactly it does.
Photos of the battery cover and spring disasembled and assembled.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/56sbnv31usewthr/Battery%20cover%20assembled.jpg
I just have the pieces laying in the correct position, no permanent repair.  Would have simply thrown them on the scanner, but the all-in-one unit with scanner that was installed was removed yesterday to be donated with the laptop mentioned in my original post.
The round end of the spring pops the battery cover off when the latch is released.  The other end depresses the switch in the mouse when the slide in the battery cover is moved.
it looks like they can be taken apart - there's a teardown of a different model at ifixit.com, which you might be able to adapt.
The wired version of a mouse similar in construction to that unit came with my iMac.  When the trackball stopped scrolling, I found out you had to end up using Super Glue to reassemble, and that's no way to design a product, IMO.  But, I always hated that mouse, it didn't fit my hand, and typing on the keyboard reminds me of the horrible "chiclet" keypads of yesteryear, and I replaced both with an old Apple Pro keyboard and a Microsoft USB wireless mouse that actually fit my hand!!!  What a concept!
The thing at the top (between the +/-) looks more like a latch than a switch to me.  is it holding the bottom plate in place?
There is the proverbial Tab A on the cover that fits into Slot B on the mouse, but the the sliding thing does nothing to affect the tab/slot that I can determine.  Possibly, it may control the amount of movement vertically you apply to get a "mouse press", but at the moment I've not tested that theory.
I think the +/-  bit really is just a guide for battery installation.
"Illogical", as Mr. Spock would say.  The orientation of the +/- is 90º to the battery installation.  And both batteries are installed with the + end towards this end of the mouse.
if attaching the the piece of metal is just a matter of broken pins, though, you could try super-gluing it in place.
Super glue was my first thought, but spring steel is hard to get liquid type adhesives to adhere to.  I also thought of using Gorilla Glue, if you're familiar with it.  It's hard to find stuff that Gorilla Glue won't bond to with some degree of success.
I dug out my freestanding magnifier, and it almost looks like the "pins" probably had an upper, smaller in dia. part, that may have been melted over the spring to hold the spring in place.
and no matter what you say, tape is always an option.
LOL!  Hope that was a joke for real, as that never an option for my repairs.  If done, it's cheap and cheezy, as if you don't care what kind of workmanship you have.
With respect to the link...  did you seriously keep hitting that link and sitting through the sarcasimation, rather than typing the words into a new google window yourself?  Heck, you could have copy/pasted the text instead of typing it, or bookmarked the resulting google page for future reference, or..., or...
To start with, Google is almost never my search engine of first choice.  Why?  I've not trusted them with anything since they were caught violating privacy issues, more than once.  My first choices are DuckDuckGo, Startpage, and IxQuick, because those search engines do not track your searches and surfing habits.  Where I go and what I do is no one's business.  I don't want that info given/sold/stolen by marketers, spammers, scammers, hackers, et. al.
Startpage and IxQuick appear to be from the same folks.
So I have all the trackers blocked as best as possible, Javascript disabled, etc., which makes getting the encrypted URL to work is, well, extra work.    Simply copying and pasting the encrypted URL is therefore blocked.  I see no value other than shorter typed links in email, forums, newsgroups, etc. to the shortened links, plus making bucks for the folks at TinyURL and others that create them for you.  And of course, they are tracking you to.
So, as you may have guessed by now, I do not use Safari.   <grin>
I didn't plan on doing it more than once, but had to when you replied.  And I've already got too damned many bookmarks.
    Dude.
And I'm neither a Dude or Dudette.  But been online before there was a world wide web, and a 1200 baud modem was state of the art.
It seems to me that you are suffering from a chronic case of missing-the-point.  The first time you clicked that link it was me wasting your time; my bad, but gotcha, laughs all around.
Did not miss the point, and I am not laughing.  Wasting the time of your friends is one thing, wasting the time of strangers is simply bad manners.
Any time you clicked it after that you knew what was going to happen, so you were wasting your own time.  You're complaining that your time is being wasted because you just won't google it yourself - what am I supposed to do with that except ?
I will plead guilty to assuming that Apple would have documentation on their own website, n'cest-ce pas?  (To save you some Googling and unencrypting URLs, http://www.yourdictionary.com/n-est-ce-pas)  If Apple had the info on their site, the seach engine would/should have found that link, and I would than have wasted my time with a Google search when it shouldn't have been necessary.  I learned a long time ago, to always, always check the mfgr.'s site first for the correct information.

  • Need help removing apple id from old songs

hi, hope someone can help. just rebuilt my computer and put my songs from my old ipod nano onto itunes. only 3 songs were purchased yrs ago with my ex wife's account. when i click on those songs in itunes to play, it pops up with her apple id. how can i remove that so i can safely move songs back and forth to ipod and add new ones without losing those 3 or re-buying them???

The only way I know of to "remove Apple ID" info off of previous purchased tracks is to have the original ID purchase the iTunes Plus version (DRM free version). That makes it available on all devices, not just authorized ones. They are less expensive to upgrade rather than buying them again outright. Hope this helps and good luck!
