Need help to rebuild my /var tree

Hi all,
I tried to resize my /var partition but I seem to have spoiled the permissions of the directories and files under /var. The contents is there so I only need to know the right permissions for the directories and files and how to set them up.
Any suggestions please?
My thanks in advance.

Or, even better, list all packages that use /var/; and reinstall those to fix their permissions:
pacman --sync `pacman -Ql | grep '/var/' | cut -d' ' -f1 | sort -u | tr '\n' ' '`
Ah, thank you both very much! Looks like I better have a fresh look at man pacman...

  • Need help with rebuilding credit.

I am not sure where to start. My credit was ruined when my ex and I split. He let the house and everything go even though I told him he wouldnt have to pay child support if he just kept it all going until we sold. That is now off my credit but after I was so scared of my credit I didnt open anything. I had the mentality if I didnt have the money for it I couldnt afford it so I didnt have credit cards. Now when I go to apply for a car loan or a house they are saying I dont have enough established credit. I am trying to figure out the best way to do that without messing my score up. The last time we pulled my scores was 2/25/15 they were EX 596 TU 685 EF 657. I have a Capitol One card but am wondering which other cards I should try to help establish more trade lines? I was thinking about doing a CareCredit card but am nervous I will get declinded. Any help would be very appreciated. I have one public record that was paid 4/12 and it says I have 5 collections but they are all paid or closed?

First step...I would pull all 3 of your reports from www.annualcreditreport.com if you haven't in the last year and see what's actually on there to make sure they are accurate. Something seems strange with the disparity between EXPERIAN and the other 2, so maybe there is something on that report that is not correct. If you do have any baddies, paid or not, search the forum and try to use PFD or GW techniques to have those removed where possible. In some cases, if they are near the SOL in your state, the best bet is to just wait for them to fall off that way or you could get an early exclusion from the CRA's... From there it's really about finding what type of credit best suits your needs. If all your scores end up between 650-680 you should have quite a few options available to you. I'd search the forums and do a lot of reading/research to determine how best to move forward in establishing more positive tradelines.

  • Need help with rebuilding and iPhoto folder

I'm new to this Apple support thing, but sort of desperate. I was an idiot and renamed some photographs in the iPhoto folder that is accessed from Finder.
**(side note: it would be nice if there was something with iPhoto that informed users this is a bad idea. I didn't like the number format used in the iPhoto finder folder, and found it hard to find anything when trying to upload something to the internet, so I tried to change this- using actual iPhoto first, which didn't work- and have now discovered the consequences the hard way.)
All of my photographs are backed up to an external hard drive, but unfortunately they are all still goofed up, as well. (I can open them in Preview, but not in iPhoto). I've gone through rebuild, which didn't work, and am now trying something suggested here, which is to rename the folder "iPhoto Library_old" and then create a new library. This is working to an extent. When I am done, a window pops up telling me that I have unreadable files and that "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
I have definitely learned from this and will never touch the folder in the future, but if anyone has any idea of how to fix this problem, I would be incredibly grateful.

That is an incredibly helpful suggestion; thank you very much! I think the unreadable files are actually thumbnails. Another post explained that iPhoto doesn't re-import thumbnails from an old library because it creates its own.
Just one last quick question- when I've uploaded pictures from my "iPhoto Library_old" folder, for each roll there are the regular pictures and identical ones (unless they've been cropped, turned, etc.) called originals, presumably because they look like the original photo did. Can I delete these originals without hurting my library?
Thank you so much for your help!

  • HELP!! Complete hard drive crash on IQ826t. Now running Windows 7/32 bit. Need help to rebuild all.

    Hello,
Pulling my hair out over a complete hard drive crash. I had a new drive installed and also Windows 7/32bit. I was able to recover most of my things from external back-up, but lost all that it takes to run the Touchsmart portion. I'm not a computer Geek but would sincerely appreciate any info to bring back my Touchsmart. I've contacted customer support and little can be done ( or so they say ) now that the warranty has expired.  Has anyone had the same problem?
    Many thanks.

Has no one actually suggested going to hp.com and downloading the updated files for your model? The Touchsmart apps for Win7 are all listed there for download.

  • Disk utility can't repair disk, back up and restore files......I need help, I'm worried I'll lose all my photos, files etc

    Mac started hanging up while streamlining a kids show. Restarted and got the screen with the apple and the circle. restarted with control-option p and r. Ran disk repairitem got the following results;
    invalid index key,
    it rebuilds catalog b-tree,
    volume repair complete,
updating boot support partitions for the volume as required,
Error disk utility can't repair disk
I'm then prompted to back up all files, reformat the disk and restore backed up files.
Obviously need help here as I think I'm in danger of losing my files, photos etc if I don't do this right.
    Can anyone help
    Steve

You might want to back up the disk as soon as possible, do the repair, then back it up again. First time will have the issues that Disk Utility can't fix, however, you'll have the data saved.  Then, once you get things repaired, make a new backup, and go from there.
If you're going to use a hard drive directly connected to your iMac for backup, this is what I mentioned earlier: http://twelvesouth.com/products/backpack/ Great way to use space behind the iMac without adding something else to the desk top. You can buy it through Apple online/stores or Amazon, and there are probably other sources too.
For external hard drives, I like those sold by OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/ as many of them use Oxford chip sets, wihch work well with macs (I've used several for years with no issues). Most pre-packaged drive/cases have a 3 year warranty, although you can buy a case and add your own hard drive. I like Western Digital Scorpio Blacks that have a 5 year warranty.

  • Newbie needs help with Flex app

Hi there. I am very new to Flex and also fairly new to
programming although I do have a little experience.
I am trying to create an app which stores code snippets or
common text I tend to use every day in my documents and emails.
So basically I need help on a design level. I can refer to
the developer's manual for exact instructions for commands, but I
need to know what to code first.
    The app will consist of:
-a tree directory structure where I can create groups.
-There will be a basic text editor where I input all my data,
basic text formatting options (font, bullets etc) would be a bonus.
    -A search function
-Finally it will ideally allow multiple client apps write to
a central database file over a network
Can anyone suggest how I should approach such a project?
Or are there any tutorials / source files which demonstrate
    each bullet point?
    thanks.

    Hey jono,
I'm new too. But I think I might know the right components.
If you google any of these + flex 3 you should get some
    decent documentation
    tree - advanced dataGrid component
basic text editor - rich text editor component
search function - well, you're gonna need to read up on
arrays, and arraycollection. Once you get that stuff working, you
can write up a function to search for a string in an array.
network functionality - HTTPService, you can dump the
datagrid into a database, and have it load the database when you
    open up the application.
Give these things a shot, tutorials / sources will come with
    the google searches.

  • Need help with an assignment

first of all, who has heard of the game called zuul? It is a very boring text based game I am currently having the pleasure of improving.
Basically, you are in a room, that is connected to a bunch of other rooms and depending on the room you are in, you have different exists and different items in the room.
The goal is to navigate through the collection of Rooms and there is no real win condition, It is more for learning then for actually playing.
You navigate by a series of commands such as: go (direction)( as in "direction of exit", NSEW), quit, a few other odd bits.
ex: go south, quit, go west etc
The game has several classes: Game, Command, CommandWords, Item, Parser, Room.
Obviously Game is the main central head conch, (it is not the super class.)
Game makes use of Item, Room, Parser, and Command.
Item is the class that deals with the number of items in the Room.
Room is the class that deals with the rooms the player will navigate to and from.
Command reads in the commands such as "go-(direction)" or "quit".
Parser makes everybody understand each other by using both Command and CommandWords.
CommandWords is a list of commands such as "go", "quit" etc.
The problem I am having right now is to allow a player to move through the rooms while holding a certain item. The item has to come from the rooms and the player should be able to drop it.
So I have to add two new commands: take and drop. The problem is that I have been asked to do this without creating a new class. Otherwise I would have just created class Player and be done with it. So I am trying to figure out whose responsibility should it be to take care of the take and drop command. I have done some preliminary work in class Game, it is the take(Command command) and drop() methods.
I have also a few questions concerning other aspects of the project, I have listed their locations here:
    1. The take() method in class Game, the for-each loop, a complier error with ArrayList
    2. class Parser, a general question about the string tokenzier
If you want to see how the game is suppose to run, just comment out the bodies of take() and drop(). Not the declaration. Everything else works.
I shall now provide the code to all classes. I wish there were an option to upload a zip file, then you don't have to read through all the codes and copy&paste all the codes. The complier I am using is BlueJ. And the SDK version is 1.6. With the exception of class Game, everything else can be assumed to be error free.
    Thank you for your time,
    Davy

    * "World of Zuul" is a very simple, text based adventure game.
    * This parser reads user input and tries to interpret it as an "Adventure"
    * command. Every time it is called it reads a line from the terminal and
    * tries to interpret the line as a two word command. It returns the command
    * as an object of class Command.
    * The parser has a set of known command words. It checks user input against
    * the known commands, and if the input is not one of the known commands, it
    * returns a command object that is marked as an unknown command.

    Hi there
Ive tried to make my tank in my game shoot, all the code that is there works but when i push space to shoot which is my shooting key it does not shoot I really need help with this and I would appriciate anyone that could help
listed below should be the correct code
//checking if the space bar is pressed and shooting is allowed
    if(evt.keyCode == 32 && shootAllow){

USe the trace function to analyze what happens and what fails to happen in the code you showed.  trace the conditional values to see if they are set up to allow a shot when you press the key

This is a web-based app. And the application is for a carrousel video gallery.
I already figure out the auto XML generator with php, but I think I want to get all in one process. Meaning that I only want to upload my videos and run php codes by themselves and not to worry in adding or modifying the *.fla file everytime that I insert a new folder ("Album").
This is the link for the project I am working
    http://anaheimspanish.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=98&Itemid=124
It's called 3D Video Gallery, I bought the component through a website for flash components, but their support is not very good, that's why I want to fix as much as I need.
Thanks in advance for your help
If you need a full zip project to test it, let me know.

I need help with a website I've created (www.jonathanhazelwood.com/lighthouse) I created the folowing site with dreamweaver at my current resolution 1366 by 768. Looks great on my screen resolution but if it is viewed on other resolutions the menu moves and some of the text above and below. How can I keep all content centered and working like it does on 1366 by 768 on all resolutions. The htm to my site is below I started off with a blank template through dreamweaver CS5.

Look at all the apdiv's you have.  Those are absolutely positioned layers.  I'm assuming by your post that you are very new to Dreamweaver and HTML and CSS.  I would highly recommend not using absolutely positioned layers until you have a better grasp on HTML and CSS.
Looking at your code I would suggest that you consider using one of Dreamweaver's built in, or downloadable templates as a starting point and work from there.
