Need help with linking buttons

Can anyone help me with this problem I have.
I have a gfx which I have created 6 shapes and converted them into simple buttons. I have urls sat inside an xml file. How can I get the buttons to use the urls set from within the xml file?
Also how can I change the current external photo that is being loaded to load the url from a setting in the same xml file.
I hope you arnt as confused as I am right now.
I have packaged up the flash file which includeds the xml aswell.
If anyone could help me out with this I would be very greatful.

Remove the code from all btns, as below paste it on main timeline
Also no need to load xml twice as dome in image container...
give an instance name to the outer container of btns - menumv

    you can't use the button itself if you want to maintain the
    DOWN state after
    release as button automatically resets itself once the mouse
    lives the HIT zone.
    Use movie clip instead and on press simply send it to a frame
    where there
    is DOWN state like image.

  • Help with linking buttons to Scenes

    Rookie to Flash and AS3. Just needed some help with my buttons. Im making a flash program about pancakes (random I know). I have a "Mainmenu" scene and then a "Recipe" scene. I have a button on my mainmenu which takes me to the recipe page when I click it, the code behind the button is

    First, hopefully having all your code mushed onto the same line is a copy/paste error, otherwise it should look like...

    If the intention is to click the buttons to make them work, then you should use CLICK instead of MOUSE_DOWN.  MOUSE_DOWN can be a persistent state whereas CLICK involves releasing it afterwards.
    As for the code to get you back home, where is it located on the timeline?  Are you getting any error messages when you try to use it?
    One thing you should learn to use is the trace() function.  It is useful for troubleshooting.  You can use it now to see if your second button is talking to the function at all...

    If you don't get that message in the output panel, you'll know the button is not properly coded to work.
    Most folks here will recommend you get away from using scenes in a design that includes navigation--they have a history of being problematic.  Instead of using scenes, divide the one main timeline up into sections or use movieclips for the sections and manage their visibility... or do a bit of both.

    I hope someone can help with a simple-looking problem which
    nonetheless has me stumped!
    I have a feeling that I've missed something obvious.
    I've created a movie clip to act as a button (I've called it
    "abs_button") and placed it on the stage.
    My main movie has one frame.
    Within the "abs_button" movie clip there are 5 layers.
    Labels, actions, default button state, rollover state and rollout
    state.
    Technically, default button state, rollover state and rollout
    state could be on the same layer as they don't overlap, but I've
    given each animation its own layer for clarity.
    FRAME 01.
    Default button state is one frame with a graphic of the
    button. Just a label at the start ("abs_up") and a "stop();" action
    at the end.
    FRAME 02 to 31.
    Rollover state is a 30 frame animation. Label at start
    ("abs_over"), "stop()"; action at the end.
    FRAME 32 to 62.
    Rollout state is a 30 frame animation. Label at start
    ("abs_out"), "stop()"; action at the end.
    All animations were achieved with tweens.
    My initial "abs_button" code:

    As it stands, the animation jumps to frame 1 of "abs_out" on

    I've tried for 2 days to solve this, but I clearly need help.
    My experiments with variables simply didn't work.
    I would be grateful if someone could tell me where I'm going
    wrong!

  • Need help with encore buttons - highlights

    Hi All
    I am seeking help with Encode CS5. I have a project working fine except that I dont have highlights for buttons, at least I think thats what its called. So when the mouse or remote control navigates up/down toa button it changes colour.
    In the properties of my button, the highlight option is greyed out.
    How do I apply highlights ?

    First time I have inserted images, and they seem a little small on this message - if you have any problems reading I could email to you.
    I have highlighted the first button - which is called 'Highlights' - same issue with all the other buttons.
    Do you have to use photoshop to add highlighting? or can you do this in encore - i dont have much experience with photoshop.
    Not sure how to check 'Color Set' ? can you tell me how to get that for you - same for transparency for states? - I havent experienced them or changed them as I dont know how to

  • Need help with linked lists.

    I have a school assignment to make a linked list with a linked list.
    The first basic is to make a list of people, and link them together in a linked list. So far, so good.
    The problem comes when I'm going to make linked lists in each of these objects that include the relationships between the people in it.
    So If I have 10 peolpe in a list, person 1 might know person 3, 4 and 8. They will all know person 1 back of course. My problem is that it isn't just one group of friends, person 3 might not know person 4 and 8, but maybe he knows person 10. So all need "their own" list.
    Therefor I can't see how I'm supposed to use linked lists for them, as I can't just link them togeter with e.g. "Person nextFriend;" The text says specifically to use linked lists. Well, I'm stuck.

  • Need help with links and fill color

    Hi all, I just recently discovered liveCycle and am very impressed with it! I have been trying to make myself a homework calendar for a while now, and I have it done mostly, but there are a few more things I'd like to add that I don't know how to do.
    I have some HTML and Java experience, but very little XML or JavaScript experience. I have a feeling that what I am trying to do is relatively simple, but I just can't figure it out! I have spent hours pouring over Google and the help files, and I feel like I have gotten close, but no joy yet.
    I have attached my calendar so far (truncated to fit 5MB max attachment size). I'd like it to do two more things:
    1. Have the background color of the table cells change from white to green when the check box is checked.
    (Alternately, I'd really like to get rid of the check boxes all thogether and just have the background of the table cells turn green with a keyboard shortcut, like "ctrl + D" for 'done'. But if that isn't possible, then the color change with the check box is fine.)
    2. I'd like the button called 'WORD DOC' in the upper right of the form to open a word document on my local computer. Where I just push that button and a work doc opens right up in Word in another window.
    I was able to get .PDF documents to open up with those other two buttons there ('Big Java' and 'Beginning Java II') by adding the script

    to each of the buttons respectively, but those PDFs need to be in the same folder as the calendar for that to work. I tried just altering that script by replacing the name of the PDF file with the name of a Word doc file like this:

    but the button doesn’t work at all, it just does nothing.
    So that’s what I am trying to do. I have spent hours messing around with anything I could think of to get this to work, but unfortunately I just don’t know the language well enough to get it to work.

    Thanks very much for your response! I was able to use the code to make the box turn green by adding that script to the 'click' event of textbox and changing the language from FormCalc to JavaScript. So what happened was that when I clicked in the textbox, the color turned green.
    I couln't firgure out how to add it to the checkbox though. When I tried, it didn't do anything. The problem now is that when I click in the textbox to add my homework, it turns green. I need it to turn green once I finish my homework.
    This would work great if the texbox turned green when I SHIFT clicked the box. Is there anything I could add to that scipt to do that?

  • Need Help with Advanced Button Actions

    I am a brand new Captivate 5 user and I have created a image button that I want to have a double action. When the user clicks on the image button, I want it to SHOW a new button AND SHOW another image. I used the Advanced Actions but it does not work when I preview project.  Help!

    Did you assign the advanced action to the image button as Success action? And the new button + the image have to be on the same slide, but with the status Invisible. You can not show hidden objects that are sitting on another slide then the slide with the advanced action.

    I thought I could do this without help but I was wrong. I had to add buttons to my program and before it ran fine with the first four buttons I added but know there are many errors and I believe I messed up the whole thing now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is my code:

  • Acrobat  X Pro- Need Help with Linking and creating a flyout window in PDF

    I'm trying to create a flyout window in a PDF document (Have Acrobat X-Pro) I'm not a programmer or graphics designer. Almost like a flyout or callout in a Powerpoint presentation.
    Basically I want to create multiple icon/s on the base PDF page drawing and have several links to other pictures or items that when opened, wouldn't take up the whole screen and can then be closed so you'd only be looking at the base PDF page.
    I've tried using the link tool, but only seems to let me create a small rectangle box, click on it and have a new pdf or other file window open up. This is ok, but not really what I need it to do. I want this new window (or even a flyout) to be smaller so it doesn't cover the original base PDF layer and still be able to be closed.
    - Anyone have directions on how to do that in a pdf?
    - Also, is there a way to create a custom link icon instead of that lame rectangle in the link tool?

    Yes, you can do something like that. What you would do is create a button for each image and then hide them. When I do this type of thing I place all of the buttons on a template page and then hide the template.
    You can then use JavaScript to copy the icon from any of the hidden buttons to the main button that you've set up to display the image. For example, suppose you set up 10 buttons named b1, b2, b3, ...b10. The code to copy the icon from one of them to the button used to display the image (b0) would be something like this:
    // Get the icon from the b3 button
    var oIcon = getField("b3").buttonGetIcon();
    // Get  reference to the b0 button
    var f = getField("b0");
    // Set the icon of the b0 button to the icon retrieved from the hidden button
    f.buttonSetIcon(oIcon);
    // Show the b0 button
    f.display = display.visible;
    This code would go in the Mouse Up event of the smaller button.

  • Need help with linking text to nav bar please

    Basically, i designed a layout in photoshop7.0. I sliced it
    all, but left areas for where i wanted to type in text, then saved
    for web and opened it up in dreamweaver 8. The thing is, i dont
    know how to write the text in the area i left empty and it only
    shows when i click a certain nav bar. I usually use iframes, but
    this isnt gonna' be iframe friendly !!
    Just to reiterate, i know how to type in the boxes, just dont
    know how to link them to the nav bar buttons..

    Not quite sure how to do this.
    I have a gallery page of thumbnails that I want to reference
    a different layout page for the individual image.
    What I want to happen is, when you click the thumbnail on the
    thumbnail gallery page, a new layout page opens in the same browser
    window with that thumbnails larger image. I know how to link the
    new .html page , or the larger image, But I don't know how to link
    them both so they both open?
    I have many images and pages of thumbnails that I have to do
    this with.

  • Need help with linking my new macbook pro with my printer

    i have a new macbook pro and i am trying to link it to my also new Canon PIXMA MX882 printer.  I went through installation and it said everything was complete, but when I go to choose a printer nothing shows up.  I am a new mac user.  please help!

    It's not necessary to change your Apple ID often - maybe your password every six months or so, but not the email associated with the ID.

  • Need Help with Navigation Buttons

    Hi,
    What I'm seeking should be straightforward for those of you
    who have mastered ActionScript. (I'm using Flash 8 Professional.)
    I have 84 photographs that progressively show one complete
    rotation of a photographed object (a model airplane). What I'm
    envisioning are a pair of buttons. When the "forward" button is
    pressed, the plane would rotate clockwise, and stop rotating when
    the button is released. Same for the "reverse" button, but the
    action would be counterclockwise. In that way, the viewer can
    control exactly what angle to look at.
    I assume I'd put each of the photographs on a Flash frame and
    use ActionScript on the buttons to make Flash go through the frames
    as described above.
    Please let me know what the AS code would be, or perhaps
    provide a link to someplace where it is explained.

    I (think) I followed your instructions. The airplane rotates
    fine when the forward button is pressed, but nothing happens when
    the backward button is pressed. I’ll describe exactly what I
    did, in case I did something wrong.
    1. I drew a small dot off stage, made it into a movieclip
    object, and gave it the name apMC.
    2. On the movieclip timeline, I created a keyframe for each
    photo and dragged the photos from the library onto the keyframes. I
    placed a stop() code on the first and last movieclip frames.
    3. On the main timeline, I created three layers:
    “Movieclip”: Onto the first frame of this layer
    I copied/pasted the code that you provided.
    “Button Labels.”
    “Buttons”: I created the forward and backward
    buttons, giving them the instance names you suggested.
    Any thoughts as to why the backward button doesn’t
    work? If you wish, I could send you the .fla file to examine. If
    so, let me know where to send it.
