Hi,
If you want to use EM 11g Grid Control on 64-bit Linux, you should install version 11.1.0.1.0, which is available from here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/linuxx8664soft-085949.html
Note that the latest version of EM is 12c; however, if you still want to go with EM 11g, the following Support note documents the installation steps and has references to other helpful notes:
Step by Step Installation of Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11.1.0.1 (Doc ID 1059516.1)
By the way, the Concepts guide below has information about the EM 11g components including the OMS and agent:

Where I should install Oracle Grid Controll Management ?
We have 4 Intanium HPUX production servers and used for Oracle RAC application. We also have 2 dev-nodes for the same RAC application.
Now it has been suggested to install Grid Control Management. Some feel we should use a Window server to install, and some feel we should use one of 4 hpux production nodes. Some others feel we could use one of 2 dev-nodes.
Within these 3 options, which one of options, you would like to recommend, and please list reasons in detail, since I need to present to the management.
We don't have any budget to purchase any dedicated servers.
I personaly would choose one of hpux servers as well, since all these 4 RAC nodes reside on hpux.
Thanks for your inputs.
vkkWindow staff wanted to put it on Window, but, hpux staff wanted to put on hpux ....Such behaviour is quite normal ;-)
In case of gridcontrol I don't see platform-dependent advantages and disadvantages. Others in the community here may disagree. One point to consider may be the sequence when new releases or patchsets are launched:
Currently Linux is the first platform followed by Windows (hard to believe for some people). Then the 'rest', Solaris,HP-UX,AIX.

Installing of Grid Control failed at Repository Creation Assistant
I have a "clean" Windows Server 2003 machine (formatted hard disk, installed the OS and applied all service pack and critical system updates). I was trying to install Oracle Grid Control 10.1 for Windows.
Everything went OK until it reached the "Configuration Assistants" step. The "Enterprise Manager Repository Creation Assistant" step was failed. I looked into the log file and saw messages like this:

Oracle 10g Application Server Control is not running.Edited by: junez on Dec 27, 2009 4:18 PM -
Hi,
I'm a newbies in Oralce grid control. next month I will be start my new job which will involved in deploy and administer oracle grid control release 3.
I try to performed some setup just to have an initial idea how the grid control works. I have an Oracle RAC database (10.2.0.3) running on RHEL 4, 2 nodes.
Is grid control come together with the Oracle database software installation? or I have to download separately?
How is the grid control installation should be in place? Installation on the same database server or separate server? If both are allow which is the common approach?
Since my RAC database running in Linux, is it a must to have the grid control for Linux version? can I install into a windows server and managing all linux databases? Which should be the common approach?
Appreciate of any feedback given.
Many Thanks
best regards,
chongGridcontrol is separate software, don't confuse it with standalone DBConsole, which is part of a database creation. The latter can serve this particular database only.
If you have the resources, install gridcontrol separately. It needs some resources and may interfere with the monitored database(s).
You can install gridcontrol (more exactly the management services) everywhere, on Windows,Linux,Solaris .... .
What you need on the monitored machines is the correct agent for the platform. So you don't need gridcontrol for Linux, but you need the agent for Linux.

HI All,
I am installing the Oracle agent and when I get to the 'Specify Oracle Management Service Location' screen it asks for the 'Management Service Host Name'. Is this the same as my database server hostname? I'm not sure what to put here. When I do put the database server hostname in, then it says it can't locate port 4889 on that server. However, if you keep going through the install everything succeeds in the end. BUT, when I go to the link http://<management_service_hostname>:4889/em then nothing shows up. I am new with grid control. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.Great. Thanks for your reply Bobcatalog!
Now I just want to get this all cleared up before I proceed with the installation. So here is what I am thinking of doing and please tell me if I am wrong, missing something or should do it another way.
1. Install OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.3 on a new host (server) which has nothing on it (i.e. no Oracle products - - - clean host) and then patch it to 10.2.0.4.
- I will use the create new database option, which will create the EM Repository database
- I will (or it will) install the OMS as well as the OMA (Oracle management Agent)
(Question: Should I install OEM Grid Control on just a regular filesystem or use ASM with it? I heard that there are issues with using ASM. If it will increase my chances of failure, then I will stay away from it...even though all our environments (DEV, PROD, QA) use ASM.
2. Install the OMA agent on each of the database servers (which are called 'targets') that I want to monitor.
And that is all that I will need to do, correct?
Thank you. -
Overview of Oracle Grid Control components
Hello,
We want to look at Oracle Grid Control feature. Can anyone make clear to us what components need to be installed where and how do the components communicate with eachother. I am talking about Enterprise Manager, agents, databases etc.
Preferable we are looking for a graphical overview of components. Anyone have a picture from some presentation?
We do not have a grid, but want to use the Grid Control.
If I am not clear please tell me.You have one machine for OMS, the management server, that runs the app server and management repository plus an agent to monitor itself. On each machine you want to monitor you install the agent. Administrators connect with a browser to the web interface of the OMS, which enables control over the targets that the repository knows about.
Following links goes to Product Center and Docu library for GC 10.2 rel 3.
The basic stuff is available with your database licensing, but many features require EE and additional Management pack licenses. Talk to your sales rep for more info. -
Error while installing OEM Grid Control
I am getting error while installing OEM Grid control (with existing database) at OMS Configuration. So, I cancelled the installation and deleted all databases and started the instal again. I am still getting an error at OMS configuration.
I am trying to read through the threads here to see if anyone has solved it. I see a lot of threads on this topic but not sure how you guys resolved it.
Can anyone help here.
In the oracle installer, I see the message : The c:\oraclehomes\agent10g\cfgtoollogs\configToolfailedCommands" script contains all commans that failed, were skipped or cancelled ....
--in this file, all I see is:
rem Copyright (C)1999, 2006 Oracle
oracle.sysman.emcp.agent.AgentPlugIn
How should I proceed
Thanks
Ramya
