Need Multiple Units of Measure for a given material due to multiple vendors

Hello,
We have a requirement where we must have multiple units of measue (each, box, case, pallet) for a given material.
Background:
We have multiple vendors for one SAP material number. We need to store 4 levels of units of measure for each vendor+material combination.
Unit of Meaure levels
1. Each
2. Innerpack (ex: 12 each = 1 innerpack)
3. Box (ex: 36 eaches = 1 box)
4. Pallet (ex: 100 eaches = 1 pallet)
Standard SAP allows in MM01 additional data --> Units of Measure only 1 Ea, Box, Plt, etc.
Our requirement is to allow multiple Units of Measure due to multiple vendors providing the same material.
So, our unique combination is by a Material+Vendor.
We are considering adding the vendor name and vendor number to the material master --> additional data --> Units of Measure tab.
Does this seem like a good solution? What impacts do you foresee with approach?
Any alternatve solutions?
We thought we could enhance the purchasing info records to allow multiple units of measure too but then we need to also add many fields to hold the weight, lenght, height, width, volume, country of origin, etc.
Please recommend a best practice or solution to handle this requirement.
Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,
Maintain the alternative units in Material Master in Additional Data -> Units of Measure section with proper conversion factors.
Create individual info-records i.e. per mtl-vendor combination & in the info-record maintain the order unit, along with other details as required.
Now when you create a PO, the details will be read from the info-record. To test the same, create them in your sandbox & see if it meets your requirement.
Hope the above clarifies your query.
Regards,
Vivek

  • Multiple Units of Measurements for a single item

    Hi all,
How do I maintain multiple units of measurements for a single Item/  I have a scenario where purchase orders are being made for sand in Metric Tons, Tons, Kgs and Cubit Feets.  Each measurement is being used at each construction site of the company but the item is single sand.   One more problem is here with the material reconciliation of stock since it is maintained in different units of measurement and conversion from unit to other is problematic.
    Thanks

    Hi YSvee Reddy ,
Julie is correct in saying that this feature will be available in version 8.8, currently in Ramp-up.
Please see the [8.8 landing page |https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000705857&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000183&_ADDINC=011000358700001192682007E&]for a link to the 'What's new' document.

  • Price by multiple unit of measure

I have a requirement to price in multiple units of measure for the same material number.  For example material # 12345
    1 Box = $500
    1 Ea   = $1.50
    1 Box = 500 ea
Customer orders 501 each of material 12345 on one line item of the sales order.  Requirement is to price at $501.50 not $501.00
I have tried to use condition supplements without success.  Does anyone have suggestions without using pricing requirements or forumals of how this requirement can be met?

    hello, atul and friends.
i think interval pricing alone may not be enough, but definitely it could be part of the solution.  (ms. gina, please confirm if i understood the requirement correctly)
let's say the customer orders 999 units, which will translate to 1 box and 499 loose units.  the pricing will be something like:
    $1 per unit times 999 units = $999.00
    $0.10 per unit times 499 units loose = $49.90
    total should be $ $1048.90
however, if order is 1000 units, pricing will be:
    $500 time 2 boxes = $1000.00
so, the "surcharge" of $0.10 applies only to the loose units.  but in the order, the quantity is entered either in boxes or units.  the challenge is to create condition records that recognize this packing/grouping option.  interval pricing must be supported by a feature that can recognize capacity.
    regards!

  • Load multiple Units of Measures using RMDATIND in LSMW

    Hi All,
I have created a conversion for materials using LSMW. I have used the standard direct input
       program    RMDATIND.
Requirements have changed considerably over a period of time and now the new one is that I need to
load multiple alternate units of measure for each material.
The issue when using RMDATIND is that the structure BMMH6 for alternate units  can hold only 1
record at a time and my one single legacy source record has the information for two alternate units of
       measure.
The LSMW that I created cannot handle this right now as it can load only one Unit of Measure as
BMMH6 can hold only one record.
Is this a limitation or is there a workaround/solution for this issue of mine in LSMW while using <br />
       RMDATIND.
I will greatly appreciate any useful inputs in this regard.
    Thanks,

  • Leave unit of measure for calculation type A empty

    Hi Gurus,
We are in SRM Extended classic scenario with 5.0 version.
Here in SRM we have Procurement contact with process type Global Outline Agreement (GCTR).
Currently we are facing problem while amending the condition type in the contact line item. When we change the condition type for particular line item then getting error message "Leave Unit of Measure for calculation type A empty. (item 10).
On the line item the condition could look like this
Condition                    Price                 Start Date       End Date
    Price(Contract/Bid)    100 EUR            2010-02-22    2010-12-31
    gross surcharge %   5,5 %                2010-02-22    2010-03-31
    gross surcharge %   6,5%                 2010-04-01    2010-06-30
    gross surcharge %   8,5 %                2010-07-01    2010-12-31
when we try to add additional conditon like "gross surcharge %" then we got this error message
Leave unit of measure for calculation type A empty
if I delete all condition "Gross Surcharge%" then the error disapear and then I can try again, sometime we could create those condition without problems but offen we have this error.
Can any one help me to get rid of this error message.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Jakob Bang

initially you could do multiple periods but when you change the condition it is not allowing you.
can you make inactivate that andd new line item and add same item with new condition
    (SRM might have limitations)
I tried this works for me

  • Multiple Unit of Measure in SAP BO

We have a requirement to use multiple unit of measures from one of our client whose business concern is manufacturing and tenneries.
We want to measure inventory in units and in meters at same time. For example, if one new unit measuring 50 metres is received in warehouse then it should be measured in units as well as in metres. If the last quantity in warehouse was 50 pcs with 600 metres then after the one unit addition it should update the inventory to 51 pcs with 650 metres.
Is there a solution or way we can use SAP BO with multiple UOM.

    Hi,
In B1 8.8, you can use multiple unit of measure but it will be displayed in the sales marketing document and purchase document.
The stock UOM can't be managed by multiple UOM.
When you see field UOM in the item master data --> inventory tab, you can only enter one UOM there.
In the document level, you can maintain multiple UOM for the item or inventory. If you have defined the conversion of the UOM, it will be automatically calculated.

  • Create Characteristic with multiple units of measure

    Hello Friends,
I want to create characteristic (CT04) which has multiple units of measure.  At present  a  Characteristic is created with a single unit of Measure. I have to create characeristic and assign it in MIC. MIC specifications are customer dependent. Customer may give specifications in different unit of measure. While creating sales order, I am entering the specifications for characteristics, as material is created with varient.
I am creating Single Characteristic multiple times for different Unit of Measure and assigning it to the class.
Therefore according to the Customer requirment and his specifed Unit of Measure, that Characteristic is choosen having same UoM as of Customer.
Insead of doing this, Is it possible to assign multiple units of measure to single characteristic?
    Waitng for reply!

    Hi,
With Multiple Unit Of measures, I don't think its possible.
You can Use CHAR for characteristics, to Use.
Instead for Fixed Units. Let Marketing/sales Enter the req.
But you shall make it Multiple Selection, Since you can use them in Selection Condition.
    Hope this is Useful.

What UOM's are we talking about?
Are you talking about ppm vs. %? Or ppm vs. ppb?
SAP can make some of these conversion automatically.  I encourage clients to standardize what their lab people report on in inspection lots.  I.e. they should always record ppm or always record % in the inspection lots.
In the certificates you can use the certificate profile to change the UOM actually reported on the COA to the customer. So you can record by ppm in the lab, but in the cert for the characteristic, you indicate that it should be reported in %.  The system will automatically make this conversion for you.
If you are talking somethign like screens, I recommend doing all in the lab as either thru or on and doing calculated characterisitcs to calculate the opposite for those customers that want thru instead of on, or vice versa.

  • Multiple units of measure (UoM) inventory 8.8

Anybody have any documentation on the multiple units of measure feature in 8.8.  I have done the delta training but I can't see it in the current version I have installed (PL09).
Do I have to update to PL10 to get this feature?  Does it not exist anymore?  Or am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Thank you for trying to help but unfortunately you are all not exactly correct on this...
I spoke to SAP and the functionality described in the 8.8 Delta video using strawberries as an example is misleading.
The new feature allows you to change Items Per Purchase Unit / Items Per Sales Unit on the document dynamically even if there are transactions to the item.
2007 and below locked the items per purchase / items per sales unit after a single transaction.
So the setup for this is NOT in the item master data it is a field called Items Per Unit in the marketing documents.  The items per unit becomes the default but you can modify it for each document dynamically.
I made a simple dropdown list UDF and an FMS that allowed me to select different lengths and whatnot.  And the FMS would input the correct conversion rate into the Items Per Unit field.
So for a purchasing (in this case a purchase order) example we store this particular unit in metric tonnes but we occasionally buy it in 25kg bags / 2200kg totes, etc. For the 25kg bags each bag would be 0.025 metric tonnes (mt).  So when the dropdown says 25kg bag, the FMS inputs 0.025 in the items per unit field.  Then when we say 100 bags, it would put them into inventory at 100 (qty) * 0.025 (items per unit) = 2.5 mt.  In this case we inventory the item in metric tonnes and sell it in metric tonnes so it's a simple example only on the purchase side.
The only caveat to this is that the price doesn't dynamically change with the items per unit, but you could either make an FMS for that as well, or simply type it in manually.
This is for 8.8 ONLY not 2007.
There is no real documentation or training on this currently but I have confirmed this with SAP and used it in the system.
    Hope this helps,
    Mike

  • Unit of measure for calculation type C must be completed

    Hi All
When releasing some contracts in SRM , we are getting the error message as above.
The error message doesn't specify any particular part and the contract has more than 3000 parts.
There are no conditions at header or item level.
There is no Target quantity also. Just a Target value for the contract and prices for individual items are maintained.
We are using extended classic scenario and the contract is manually created in SRM.
I have checked the OSS notes for this error, but they are mostly for contract creation in Bidding and not for a manually created SRM contract.
We checked the UOMs for all the contract parts with the UOMs ( Base and Purchasing) in ECC Material Master and they are OK.
In our scenario , MM changes in ECC are replicated to SRM in real time
Any pointers towards pin pointing the error will be rewarded!
    Regards
    Kedar

    Hi,
We encountered this error message and resolved the problem by applying the following 3 SAP Notes:
    a)     Note #1022928 - Unit of Measure for Calculation Type C Must Be Completed
            (Previously Mentioned)
    b)     Note #1702484 - Unit of Measure for Calculation Type C Must Be Completed
    c)     Note #1517648 - Default Conditions Added for Product Category Item Type
Although the contract required is similar to a "Limit" item, but had to be placed for bid, then the RFX PS Item Type was set to "Service" to receive the bid responses.  After accepting the bid response, then we created a contract from the bid response.  Since it was to be a "Limit" type contract, then we immediately removed the data from the following fields:
    Remove the Quantity
    Remove the Unit of Measure
    Remove the Price
    Remove the Price Condition
After removing the values from these fields, then we switched the PS Item Type from "Service" to "Product Category".  We added the Guaranteed Minimum and account assignment data to encumber the funds.  We were able to "Release" the contract successfully.

  • Unit of measure for a pallet layer in MATMAS03

    Hi all,
maybe ths is not the correct forum where to post this question, if  it's out of topic I apologize in advance.
    Fast question:
What is LAY? it is  alternative unit of measure for pallet layers?
When i receive the IDOC i recieve LR as UOM, what is the relation between LR and LAY?
    Thanks & regards
    Andrea

These units could have been defined only in your system (I don't see them in ours). If it is so, no one here will be able to answer.
The conversion factors could be in Material Master (MM03), on Basic Data screen click Additional Data button and go to the Units of Measure tab. Also see tables MARM and T006.

  • Unit of Measure for Services

    Dear Friends,
I have cretaed RFQ for services such as Manpower Hiring where Item category is,"D".Unit of Measure is UT.
Now I have selected the line item and clicked on Services to enter the details of Manpower such as Welders,Fitters,Carpenter etc. and here Unit of measure is HR (Hours).
Now when I am taking print out of this RFQ.Unit of Meauser for Manpower is UT,it is correct. But unit of Measure for Welders,Fitters,Carpenter etc is STD.Infact it should be HR.
I have checked the table ESLL and value of Unit of Measure here for Welder,Fitters,Carpenter etc and it is  STD.
Can anyone explain me why the values are flowing as STD but not as HR?

The UOM qualifies the quantity you enter on the
purchase order line. This will default in if you entered an item number, if not enter
a UOM of your choice using the List of Values.
