Need to enter password twice to login (when using lightdm)
Hi!
I need to enter my password twice before I can login (note that I need to enter it correctly both times). After the first time, the screen goes blank for a second and then returns to the login screen.
I'm using the latest versions lightdm 1:1.10.1-2 and lightdm-gtk2-greeter 1:1.8.4-2 (and I'm logging into an Xfce session).
The relevant part of /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log is:
[+11.38s] DEBUG: Session pid=345: Started with service 'lightdm', username 'test'
[+14.95s] DEBUG: Session pid=313: User test authorized
[+15.03s] DEBUG: Session pid=345: Running command /etc/lightdm/Xsession startxfce4
[+15.04s] DEBUG: Session pid=345: Logging to .xsession-errors
[+15.29s] DEBUG: Session pid=345: Exited with return value 0
[+15.71s] DEBUG: Seat: Active display server stopped, starting greeter
[+15.71s] DEBUG: Seat: Creating greeter session
This shows that the sessions quits after .26 seconds after running and returns to the greeter. The second time I log in it appears to work fine.
I have already reported this bug to the lightdm development team (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1333538), but I'm thinking that it might be an Arch-specific issue. My ~/.xsession-errors contains many lines stating that xfdesktop is trying to start, but it is already running:

The problem does not occur when using GDM instead of lightdm. I'm grateful for any hints that point me in the right direction to solve this issue - thanks!

This happens on all of my school's Ubuntu 12.04 computers and has for two years.

Prompting for password and username only when using dynamic parameters
Post Author: Co3023
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
How do I stop CR XI prompting for password and username only when using dynamic parameters. When no dynamic parameters are used CR XI isn't prompting for the DB user name and password. The report is run from an application which passes the user name and password. I am using Oracle and the problem is both with the native oracle driver and the ODBC RDO driver.Post Author: jehanzeb
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
I didnt ask you to change it to static I said I took the parameters totally out of the report. Saved it. Then re-enter the dynamic parameters into the report and it worked for me. That might have worked for you, not sure why you changed it to static.
Ok I have just created a quick report using dynamic parameters, it didnt ask me for the username password.
Can you create a sample report - just to test the db? and see if it works? add only 1 or 2 fields in the report, create parameters (dynamic) and see if it works
why don't you embed the username and password in your application, it won't ask for username password then. -

I have a macbook (just the original white one...I want to say it's a 2008). I haven't used it in a while because my keyboard is broken. I had to have some work done on it (other than replacing the ketboard which I will do later), and when I got it back and cut it on, it came to the login screen where I need to enter my password. My password contains some of the letters on my keyboard that are broken. How do you open the on screen keyboard (where I can use my mouse to type it in) from the login screen? There's no options or anything that I can click on other than where I enter my password. Thanks in advance for any help!!!
I do not have an external keyboard...well I do, but I can't find it at the moment. So if there's any other way around it, that would be helpful

Have To Enter Password Twice to Log In to Snow Leopard on my iMac
*Why Do I Have To Enter My Password Twice to Log In to Snow Leopard on my iMac?*
It just started happening a couple of weeks ago but I have no idea what I changed at that point.
There's a normal login screen where you can choose a user and enter a password. Then it goes to a completely blank screen for a few seconds and the same login scree reappears and I have to choose the user and enter the password again. Then it logs in.
What is going on? HOw do I fix it?
(please note that I do not want automatic login to one of the user accounts - I want to use this as a protection against access to my computer should someone steal it etc...)
ThanksWhat do you mean a "more fuller update" from software update? Do you mean the updates I automatically get from apple software update are not actually the latest snow leopard updates? I'm very confused.
No that is not what I was saying. Read all about the Snow Leopard combo update for yourself - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
they're generally pretty useless and typically solve most problems by saying to reinstall everything.
That has never been my experience with Apple Care the few times I have used it.
This may be a user forum, but I'm pretty confident there are Apple staff helping people out on here.
Not the case here. Hate to bust your confident bubble. These forums are strictly user to user.
"Apple staff" do chime in from time to time in the Feedback forum area if you are having problems with the discussion website. Never for technical issues. Read the Terms Of Use. -
Outlook 2013 SP1 S/MIME signature requires entering password twice
Since updating to Outlook 2013 SP1, every time I send an S/MIME signed email I'm prompted for the password twice. Prior to SP1, I was prompted once per email (I have PrivKeyCacheMaxItems=0, as I do want to be prompted for each email). Has anyone else
experienced this behavior? Is this a bug in SP1 or is there a configuration change to get the "once per email" behavior back?
Outlook 2013 (15.0.4569.1503) MSO (15.0.4569.1506) 64-bit.
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 w/ all Microsoft Update patches. As I remember, we don't need to type any password when we send an S/MIME signed email. Could you help to show the titile of pop-up windows? Better to capture a screenshot and post here.
By the way, does it happen in a new creating profile. And I've never heard the service pack 1 would be the root of this issue. Remove the SP1 to check if the issue would be gone in your machine if necessary. Thanks.

Need help with internal HD memory problems when using Premiere Pro?
When using PP I keep loosing memory on my HD.
Now this seems strange to me since I have every thing, all my video and audio files on external HDs.
Each time I time I make a new project I end up with less space on my internal HD.
Information related to these projects is somehow remaining on my internal HD.
Anyone got any ideas about what I might be doing wrong?
DimitrijePremiere will slowly compile various files to help the project along, and the default place is usually your internal hard drive. Make sure your scratch disks are pointed to an external hard drive if that is what you want, also, make sure the Media Cache Files are being created on your external as well (and not the default location which is on your local drive).
Premiere Preferences > Media
Media Cache Files & Media Cache Database should be changed to an external disk if you don't want them created on your local disk. There are many tutorials and explanations about all of these aspects of Premiere on these forums and from other sources. Hope that helps! -
D I need the firewall on in my Mac when using Airport extreme base station?
Hi all;
Just wondering if it's necessary to turn on the firewall in my Mac when using the AEBS.
AEBS is connected to the net and then my Mac connects to AEBS.
There's already a firewall built-in as I understand it.
Thanks. The operation of NAT and DHCP on the AEBS will prevent someone from the Internet directly accessing your Mac.
Enabling the firewall on your Mac would add some protection against someone local wirelessly accessing your Mac. -
Task Scheduler - Bad login when using the correct password
Greetings,
I have been working an issue with Task Scheduler for a while now. I have done the forum rumble as well and looked at most if not all the posts to no avail. So here is my setup is on Server 2008 R2 SP1:
I have a service accounts, we are looking to automate a basic file compile of data then a file copy. Nothing fancy however it is nothing I can share. I have all unc paths in the file so there is no odd drive latter mapping going on. The BAT file executes
without issue from a cmd prompt without issue nor error.
When I put it into Task Scheduler however things do not go so well. I have checked permissions: the account is a local admin to the system, it has the right to logon as a batch and service as well as create global objects. The account
has rights to the directories explicitly applied as well as in groups it is a part of. I can execute the task when running the console as the account, I can run the task when I relax a policy for Network access: store passwords, to allow the task
to run when the users is logged in or out. However when I run the task and check don't store the password it fails with the error that it is a bad logon user name and password are incorrect.
I swapped the target account to the local Admin GROUP and it works but this is not ideal for tracking and security reasons. I created a new group and gave it rights locally as above and add the account to it but that failed.
At this point having hit just about everything I can find to include path for Start In option, Run as highest privilege, changing to UNC, and explicit permissions I am not finding a light at the end of this tunnel.
I have a feeling there is something simple or maybe it is something I am not aware of. I had read a few places of a possible corrupt store for the password cache for Task Scheduler but I did not see that anything else on it beyond mention.
Any help ANYONE can provide on this would be greatly appreciated. As you maybe looking for an update I did find a workaround but not a solution.
I went in and disabled the local storage of password block in the local system registry. This allowed the task to store the password for the task and work. We next ran GPUPDATE to reset the change but, DID NOT change the task itself and it worked.
So what does this mean?
From my perspective, we are seeing an issue or bug where the hand off of the account information to the S4U/system is dropping the account credentials and not storing the information as needed/required to run the task with the Do Not Store setting in
place. This narrows down things tremendously and I am going to proceed back to isolated testing on this issue. Meaning I am going to take the box back to square one and move it up progressively to see if I am missing a setting here or there to allow/disallow
the use of Do not Store Password for scheduled tasks.
I am not sure there is a MSMasters program for Task Scheduler but I think I should be able to apply for it now.
As always if you have an idea for me to try PLEASE POST IT. I will give it a whirl and report back in. -
Safari 3.2.1 and hotmail, I have to enter password twice, every time
The title says it all, this has been going on for months. I go to the hotmail login page entering everything correctly but hotmail will say password incorrect enter the same details again & I'm in.
Emptying the cache makes no difference.
Any ideas ?Hi
This may be an issue due to your Internet Provider or corrupt cookies.
Let's try the Cookies side first. Open Safari. Safari Preferences>Security>Show Cookies. enter live.com in the spotlight panel. Remove the hotmail cookies that appear.
Close the panel and try logging on to Hotmail.
If no go, first go to the Hotmail log-in screen, Next in the Develop Menu (if one doesn't appear in your Menu Bar, go to Safari Preferences>Advanced panel and activate it at the bottom of the panel) go to the User Agent and change it to Firefox. Now log-in to your account.
Another alternative I've seen for working around this problem is to signing out first on http://mymsn.com (create a bookmarks bar entry for easy access to that page), then go to the HotMail page and log-in.
Hot Mail has historically been a bit of a flake in the web mail domain. Many have switched to G-Mail. consider doing the same. -
