Need to make the "SMALLEST" PDF possible.

I have played with the setting in "joboptions", can't seem to get very small files. Example, distilling or exporting from ID, I can't seem to get the file under 1.5mb's. It a 30 x 40 +bleed/marks poster. I've set distiller/Export to res down to 72 and even down to 60dpi in 1 case, set quality to "MIN", and still to big. We email low res PDF's to clients for OK'ing, and they are on older PC's and have email size limits.

For the most part, you want to be asking this in the InDesign forum. It doesn't use Acrobat to create PDF's.
But, for a 30"x40" poster with images, that's probably all you're going to get unless you convert the images to grayscale.
Do you really need to send them a 30"x40" proof? If not it might be wise to reduce the physical size of the file before PDFing it. That would create a smaller PDF.

I have a 2 page brochure, front and back with layered photoshop files and when I make the small pdf I need to make a 100kb file like a client has done in the past. The smallest I can make the pdf file is 460kb. It will not go smaller no matter what I do. Of course I can enter final resolution as 72 dpi but the photos become very fuzzy. I have even reduced the file sizes of the photos and replaced them in the document. The file size remains the same. My client said that Illustrator reduced the size for him smaller in the past but I don't think that is the solution. How do you retain some sharpness in a pdf but keep the file size at a very minimum?

But InDesign CS4 outputs the file no matter what at 460 kb for me.
Still don't know why they got 100 kb.
By not using InDesign. Scott is on the right track by mentioning Distiller - which makes PDFs that are smaller than what InDesign can export. Illustrator can be used (improperly*) in the same way. Both methods can strip out stuff that you don't need if you don't care about printing quality, don't care about reliable display across multiple platforms, don't care about precisely how your fonts are embedded, don't care about the lawsuit that the blind people using screenreaders are going to bring against you, and so on. I don't know which of the above is not in your client's 100k file, or which of the things in my above list will be stripped out by using Distiller or Illustrator, but I bet that one of the people who has already posted in your thread does know, and might be talked into telling us.
But, if you're trying to make your client happy and aren't actually personally invested in making the smallest PDFs known to man, and if you're located in the US, then perhaps the phrases "screenreaders... blind... accessibilty... lawsuit" spoken together might induce your client to rethink this arbitrary desire for miniscule file size of PDFs.
Alternately, you could just save postscript out of both PDFs and just look at the .ps files in your favorite raw-text viewer.

First let me apologize for posting a reply that was only suitable for advanced users. Photoshop is broad and powerful therefore has a huge learning curve. In fact I would state no one knows and uses all of Photoshop. When we first get Photoshop it intimidate us and we're very uncomfortable using it. Many thing are not intuitive there in much learning involved. After some time we begin to know something and we are able to do some thing. Learning become rapid and we start playing in Photoshop. It is very important to play with Photoshop. Playing with Photoshop and asking for help with in forums like this IMO is the best way to learn.
Photoshop Power lies in layers, selection and automation. However it takes knowledge to use photoshop well so most powerful tool you have ins Photoshop is the gray matter between your ears. Most at one time or another want to watermark or put a logo on their image. So its best to automate this process. All run into a problem in the process. "Size" We find our assets vary in size and aspect ratios. Landscape, Portraits, Panoramas and others. This complicates automation. Vector graphics works best when size vary greatly. If you can not work out how to create a vector solution like a custom shape. Create your Logo and watermark large thing scale down better the up. Text scale well for text uses vectors graphics however if you rasterize text it will not scale well.
I do not type or do English well so let me do some screen captures. I can not stress enough how important Black, White, Grays and Blending is when it come to image processing. Become friends with Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Luminosity blending.....
However when there is a white or black background though you can blend them you can not add a style like a drop shadow, emboss or make it invisible setting fill to 0 so only the style is visible. When there is contrast between the logo and background it is easy to separate the two. To select the background and delet it to have the logo with a transparent background. Many tools can be used to create the selection hee I use my action kill white.
Vector Shape would work better for scaling However it would be best to create the logo from scratch in a vector program like illustrator but I never had the resources to justify the Creative suite. I only had Photoshop. Recently Adobe gave me and other a year subscription to the creative suite for our participation here. I still have not installed anything but Photoshop, A while back I found a program that can create vector patf for black and white art work. It will not be as good as using something like illustrator. I have urgent requirement for which i did'nt worked before on this requirement. I hope you people can help me in this regerd.
My requirement is, I need to make the ordered quantity field (RV45A-KWMENG) disabled in the transaction code is VA01/VA02. User should not be able to edit this ordered quantity in VA01/VA02 Transaction.
Here the condition to disable this field ordered quantity is IF ORDER TYPE EQUAL TO OR AND IF ITEM CATEGORY EQUAL TO TANN in technical IF VBAK-AUART EQ OR AND IF VBAP-PSTYV EQ TANN then only the field (RV45A-KWMENG) ordered quantity should be disabled in that transaction VA01/VA02.
Correct me if iam wrong, I think in the program SAPMV45A and do we need to include any screen number which i have seen in VA02 is 4001. Do we need to write a code in Include MV45AFZZ (FORM USEREXIT_FIELD_MODIFICATION.). But i don't know what code i need to write here to disable this field.
I had searched in the forum some example code so please suggest me whether i can use this and if i can use this please suggest me how to write the condition and insert the code in that FORM. As per my understanding , To disable the field RV45A-KWMENG based on the condition for Transaction VA01/VA02.
The conditions which i need to check is Order Type and item category.
I understand that this is the code which i need to insert for disabling the field but i have a question here, where is the condition here and how the system understand for this field RV45A-KWMENG it has to disable. I think we need give the condition as if RV45A-KWMENG....... Another one if iam not wrong we need check that it has to be done in VA01 and VA02 then only this condition should be executed.

I created a Custom list New Form and need to make the text fields read only

When I use SharePoint Designer and add the read only attribute to the SharePoint form field, then it throws a web part error.
but here is the thing, I have current user Filters populating the Form Fields. So the form fields populate First name , last name etc. and I need these fields read-only....
the Client doesn t want the end user to Change those fields. Is there any way to "LOCK" the form fields?
As I have only 7 text fields that need to be locked down. and one field is a signature line that is a true input field.. where the user has to inter their initials.
Any ideas? as I have tried most of the items available thru searches nothing works, or it throws that web part error message.

I used SharePoint Designer.
Steps:
created a web part page
then on the SharePoint Designer ribbon I then went to insert:
new item form
Then I selected my data source (list)
then I placed the 8 columns on the page
a page viewer web part to pull the manual that people have to read.
and 7 current user filter webparts. (1 for each form field) Yes it is over kill, but I'm trying to keep this straight out of box as much as possible...
then for the form fields
I added a parameter and the read only tag see below in bold:

the error message doesn't tell me much, it just send me to web part maintenance page...
if I removed the ReadOnly = True then the error goes away..... So I was trying to find a quick simple JQuery and or javascript code item that would make the 7 text fields readonly and leave the
8th text field alone to allow people to place their initials on the page to say that they read the manual.
I have created hundreds of these types of pages .. this is the first time I have run into this issue, but it also the first time I have tried to use the ReadOnly = True item.
Any Ideas and or thought on how to make the items read only? and not throw the error.

What software do I need to make OCR/searchable PDF's?

I recently bought an Epson scanner so I can digitize a mountain of documents I've accumulated over the years. I played with it a little bit before a failing hared drive forced me to get a new laptop (MacBook Pro), at the same time upgrading to Mavericks. So I'm kinda sorta starting over.
It looks like I can easily create PDF's with my Epson scanner alone. What's confusing me is PDF's with searchable text; I think the technical term is OCR.
Is this something I should be able to do with a scanner alone, or do I need to make Acrobat (or another program) part of the workflow?
I have my scanner plugged into my laptop right now, and I can create PDF's with it. But if I open Acrobat and choose "Create PDF," then choose either "EPSON Scan" or "EPSON Scan Settings," I get an error message: "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."
I've also read about a software program called ABBYY Fine Reader. Is this something I can use instead of Acrobat to make OCR PDF's?
Also, how do I know if a PDF I've created is OCR searchable? Can I simply search for a word or phrase on the PDF with a program like Dreamweaver or Apple's Spotlight?

OK, now I see it. I just opened a file I recently scanned, chose "In This File," and I was able to search the text.
So if I can't get Acrobat to communicate with my scanner, then I'll just scan all my files as "plain PDF's," later batch converting them to OCR PDF's. In fact, I wonder if that might actually be a little faster than my original plan - teaming up Acrobat and my scanner to create OCR PDF's from the beginning. It's probably a lot easier and faster just working with a scanner.

Need to Make the DATA Load Faster

I need to load the data from the source to the target like 90 tables. The source has 36 million rows in some of the tables it is taking a long time altough I have dropped the indexes on the target. Is there any trigger on the table you're inserting? You could consider disabling constraints (in case any exists) if you're sure enough of the data you're inserting and no one else "touches" the table while you're working on it.

How do I make the form/pdf fit to one page?

I designed my first form today and it's two pages long. How do I get it all to fit on one page? It will be saved as a pdf.

While designing the form it will help to be in Page View. This gives a very close approximation to how your fields will appear in the resulting pdf. In the Design tab use menu View-> Page View. All page breaks will now appear as dotted lines. To aid in fitting more fields you can place forms side by side or reduce the font size. Eliminating the Header also helps.

How to make the smallest increment when moving an object

Hello all.
I'm working in a file zoomed fully to 6400%. I've changed the Keyboard increment to the smallest it will allow to 0.0036 mm.
I have two lines. Line 2 sits on line 1, a fraction above. When I select line 2 and press the down arrow key, it jumps so that line 2 is now a fraction below line one. I cannot get the lines to sit perfectly onto of one another.
I have tried to move the line using the mouse, but it snaps to the same position as the keyboard press.
I have turn off snap to grid, snap to point, all the guides, smart guides.
Has anybody come across this problem? Any boady know how to fix this?

You should be able to snap if you use Smart Guides (alone) and move Line 2 with the mouse/stylus.

Compatibility of use between IE8 & FF4 bookmarks functions. I need to make the bookmark functions behave exactly as they do in IE8.

I would like to install FF4 on my wife's computer but she's not big on change. How can I make all the imported IE bookmarks appear as they do when you click on IE Favorites without having to go to sub-menus? Moreover when you add a new bookmark scrounging around to find the location to save the new bookmark is also a non-starter.
I know I could probably use the sidebar function but that just takes up screen real estate.
I am posting this from my laptop so the info about the installed plug-ins does not pertain to my wife's computer.

Single keyboard shortcut needed for doing the Mail PDF

I very frequently e-mail Word files (using Apple Mail) as PDFs. However, it takes two long steps (Print Command and pulldown to Mail PDF command). I want to have one single keyboard shortcut for doing the Mail PDF.workflow command from within Word and not have to use the mouse at all. Any ideas?

Maybe you can script it with AppleScript Editor (in Applications)? I'm no AppleScript guru, but since you did not get any other response, I thought I'd mention it.
Get to the point where you want to use your keyboard command. Hit Record in AppleScript editor. If those actions are scriptable (not everything is), they will show up in the window. Hit Stop when you are done. You should be able to save the script as an application.

Need to make the internal table structure dynamic

Hi ,
I need to upload data from an excel file, the columns in the excel keep on varying
E.g the number of columns in one excel file can be 10, in the second excel file it can be 15.
So in order to upload the data into an internal table the structre of internal table needs to be dynamic and change according to the number of fields in the input file .
Is it possible by using field symbols or is there any other method to do the same

Cannot convert even the smallest pdf into Word - Help?

I started with a scanned document (an address list) - ran forever; tried a single page - ran forever; tried just 4 lines (2 addresses)- ran forever; tried a totally different pdf document - still ran forever. I have let the program run for what seems like hours - it never finishes, never get a converted file. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Sounds like there may be an issue on your network that prevents you from uploading files.
Try signing into Acrobat.com: http://files.acrobat.com/signin.html with your Adobe ID and password. Check to see if you can upload a file there. You'll also want to try uploading a file to the service from another network, such as from home.
