Netbeans WVP/Tomcat, "faces-config", must match DOCTYPE root "null"
With Netbeans 5.5 I suddenly (worked yesterday) get an error when
starting Tomcat 5.5.17:
org.apache.commons.digester.Digester - Parse Error at line 9 column 116: Document root element "faces-config", must match DOCTYPE root "null".
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Document root element "faces-config", must match DOCTYPE root "null".
at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.util.ErrorHandlerWrapper.createSAXParseException(ErrorHandlerWrapper.java:236)
The XML parser is complaining about a corrupt schema reference in faces-config.xml inside of web-ui.jar.
First attempt at a solution: uninstalled WVP and re-installed, hoping for a jar with a valid xml file--no such luck, it's corrupt on install.
Worst, it looks like JSF 1.2 stuff that's being called--my project is imported from JSC 2 and, presumably, should be using JSF 1.1.
Second attempt at a solution: download latest JSF1.1 files and copy into netbeans module/ext and project's WEB-INF/lib.
No luck, same error.
The following piece of code should work:
public static final String JAXP_SCHEMA_LANGUAGE="http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/properties/schemaLanguage";
public static final String W3C_XML_SCHEMA="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema";
public static final String SCHEMA_SOURCE_XSD = "C:/eclipse/workspace/XSDValidation/config/Providers-def.xsd";
public static final String JAXP_SCHEMA_SOURCE ="http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/properties/schemaSource";
DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
factory.setNamespaceAware(true);
factory.setValidating(true);
try
factory.setAttribute(JAXP_SCHEMA_LANGUAGE, W3C_XML_SCHEMA);
factory.setAttribute(JAXP_SCHEMA_SOURCE ,new File(SCHEMA_SOURCE_XSD));
/* factory.setAttribute(VALID_SCHEM ,Boolean.valueOf(true));
factory.setAttribute(VALID_SCHEM_FULL ,Boolean.valueOf(true));
catch (IllegalArgumentException x)
// Happens if the parser does not support JAXP 1.2
System.err.println("Could not register the providers as the underlying parser" +
"does not support JAXP 1.2");
// get the xml document builder
DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();

builder.setErrorHandler(handler);

Parse error on adf-faces-config.xml
When I try to include the "adf-faces-config.xml" I get XML parse errors (see stack trace below). I'm using Jboss. ADF faces works fine, it's just when I try to include ths adf-faces-config.xml in web.xml.
Anyone sees what is wrong here? The web.xml entry does get read, and it does find the adf-faces-config.xml file mentioned, and it does start to parse. I also know that the config file is OK (I tried several sample files I found on the web, and I even manually verified againt the schema) ...
Rgds,
Falco Paul

You can't actually rfer to adf-faces-config.xml from web-inf.
I got this info from some website, but that was plain wrong.
The ad-faces-config.xml location is hardcoded (WEB-INF/ad-faces-config.xml).
Regards,

hi
using tomcat 4
and jdf1.5
i am getting bellow error
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Document root element "taglib", must match DOCTYPE root "null".Check your web.xml once again.
-
Tomcat warning - [ComponentRule]{faces-config/component}
Hi,
then i start the Tomcat (with my JSF app) in console i see the WARNING
23.08.2007 15:33:24 com.sun.faces.config.rules.ComponentRule end
WARNUNG: [ComponentRule]{faces-config/component} Merge(javax.faces.ViewRoot)
what is that? How to avoid it? Make i something wrong?It's letting you know that some other parsed faces-config.xml is providing an
override to the default component associated with the ViewRoot.
I believe add-ons like shale do this. -

What is the rule for adding application elements to faces-config.xml
I have posed this question before, but was unable to get an answer so here goes again.
What is the rule for adding more than one application element to the faces-config.xml?
The schema documents that 1-n are possible, but why and when should I do this?
--Wsorry if you don't login in tomcat administration before. you must enter login and password of a manager user on tomcat .
The user is the one you give when installing tomcat.
If you have forgotten it : see it to: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\conf\tomcat_users.xml
and choose one whop have role='manager' -
Digester Parser giving error in faces-config
Hi,

I found that the META-INF\faces-config of richfaces3.2.1 doesnt have the above line....
which is where the error lies...
I have digester 1.8, collections 3.2.1, beanutils 1.7, richfaces 3.2.1 jsf-api,jsf-impl jars in my lib...
this line worked fine with jboss 4..0.4 GA...
Somewhere I read that i need to put root "system-uri" in doctype ....however it was fruitless as well...
am i missing any libs or is there any compatibility issue...

Faces-config.xml Component definition exception
Hello,
I have a taglib file with the following content :
<component>
<description>
<p>Represents an HTML <code>input</code> element
of type <code>text</code> with built-in completion.</p>
</description>
<display-name>Completion Text Field</display-name>

<!-- TODO - can I specify HtmlInputText as the parent here? -->
<base-component-type>javax.faces.Input</base-component-type>
<renderer-type>AjaxTextField</renderer-type>
</component-extension>
</component>And when I launch my webapp, I have the following exception :
Element type "base-component-type" must be declared
The entity "input-props" was referenced, but not declaredCan someone explain me what is the cause of this ?
Thanks in advance.
bgOnlineSounds like you're missing definitions like:
<!ELEMENT base-component-type (#PCDATA)>
<!ENTITY input-props SYSTEM "input-props.xml">
(one for each of the references)
These definitions need to be nested in the DOCTYPE
declaration like so:
<!DOCTYPE faces-config PUBLIC
"-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JavaServer Faces Config 1.1//EN"
"http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-facesconfig_1_1.dtd" [

Communication problem between NetBeans and Tomcat
hi!
i got a quite mysterious problem. here is what happens:
- i start NetBeans 5.5.1 (the first time)
- i want to debug my JSF-Project, the Debugger starts
- After a few seconds the debugger waits for tomcat (it sais: "Waiting for Tomcat...") and tomcat starts
- Again after a few seconds the tomcat-debugger-output sais "Tomcat startet in 3333 ms".
okay.
when i enter http://localhost:8084/ in my browser i get the tomcat homepage, so the server has definitely started! But nothing happens in NetBeans and nothing happens with my project....
In the lower-right corner i see this blue working-bar that sais "deploying project" but nothing happens. The Project-Debugger-Output still sais "Waiting for Tomcat..." but nothing happens...
And after something around 3 minutes (i guess it's a timeout) i get the error "Starting of Tomcat failed." But is HAS started, i can login to the Administration-Area in my browser!
so i guess there is a communication problem between netbeans an tomcat. Netbeans waits for a message from tomcat but tomcat doesn't send it..or netbeans doesn't understand it.
But the story goes on:
When i press the debug-button a second time it takes only a few seconds till i get the message: "Tomcat server port 8084 already in use". OF COURSE! Because Tomcat has already startet and can't be stoped by NetBeans.
i'm trying to solve this problem for 4 days now, so i would be very happy if anyone has an idea where to start/continue the search...
thanks,
flo.

Problem w.r.t. JSF 2.0 with faces-config.xml
Hi All,
I am trying to evaluate the features of JSF2.0.
For that, I have created a very simple application with "JSF 2.0.2".
There is a page that displays a composite component and some other form related components (inputtext, commandbutton).
When I deploy my application without any faces-config.xml file, everything renders perfectly fine.
When I deploy the app with faces-config.xml (even an empty one without any configuration), none of the components get rendered.
Only the html elements get displayed.
I need to define some navigation-rules in my config file. I am not sure how to go further from here.
The app server I am using for deploying my app is GlassFish(v3).
Any help or pointers towards solving my problem are highly appreciated.
You can find the xhtml file, etc of my project below.
Thank you,
With best regards,
Praveen

Load order faces-config.xml
I've got the following code:
User.java
public User() {
userData = ( UserData ) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get("userData");
}EMailCenter.java
public EMailCenter() {
userData = ( UserData ) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get("userData");
The problem: userData is accessed correctly in User.java and in EMailCenter I get an invalid object. My faces-config.xml looks like this:
<faces-config>
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>user</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>jsf.User</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
</managed-bean>
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>userData</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>jsf.UserData</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
</managed-bean>
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>emailcenter</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>jsf.EMailCenter</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
</managed-bean>
...I'm not shure but I think that EMailCenter is loaded before the userData object is created when starting the web application. So is it possible to tell Tomcat in which order it should create the objects? Or is it another problem?You can also consider to inject the userData bean as managed property of the other beans.

We have recently rolled out a Tnadberg Video Phone. Is the Tandberg phone considered an endpoint in call manager? Can you adjust what bandwidth the phone uses from within call manager?
