Netcfg 2.8.2-1 cpu hangs

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get a laptop to connect to my WPA2-Personal network using netcfg.  I am able to connect manually, using:
wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
Contents of wpa_supplicant.conf
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=wheel

             key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
             pairwise=CCMP TKIP
             group=CCMP TKIP

I copied the "wpa" netcfg profile to "/etc/network.d/homewpa".

Update:
"ifconfig wlan0 down" always hangs... must be a driver issue (ath5k).

  • High CPU/hangs on certain sites on Dell 9010 AIO

    The issue is that Firefox hangs with 100% CPU for approx. 20-30secs when we load/move tabs a bespoke site that uses Javascript but only when using the new Dell 9010 AIO that we have just purchased. It works fine on all other Dell's and other makes/models.
    We are running the latest version (23.0) of Firefox on Win7 64-bit. Originally this included SP1 and all current updates/hotfixes but went down to a bare Win7 install to try and rule out as much as possible.
    Restarting Firefox in Safe Mode makes no difference.
    Running Win7 in 'Safe Mode with Networking' fixes the issue. In normal mode I have tried stopping all services that aren't started in Safe Mode but there are 4 that cannot be stopped:
    - Group Policy Client
    - Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    - Security Accounts Manager
    - Task Scheduler
    so I can't rule these out as possible culprits.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I've been pulling my hair out on this one for over a week.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Cleaning Cache History makes CPU hang for hours.

    My FF settings history remembering is 90 days.
    Each day having approximatly 1000 pages.
    Today FF started to hang even when just writing thats why i wanted to solve problem with solthing witch has a problem- CLEAN CACHE AND HISTORY.
    1. Closed FF
    2. Opened FF
    3. Clicked to clean all HISTORY EVERYTHING
    P.roblem- it started to use all CPU and every 25 second it pops up UNRESPONSINVE SCRIPT.
    I click continue couse that of course is not for websites (couse none is opened now) but for history cleaning FF script.
    Unless i click continue it doesnt work with cleaning history right? Or not?- all cpu is down, so no cleaning happening, but i want to clean history.

    Current Firefox versions keep a maximum number of visited page and do not have a time limit for the history.
    Firefox determines automatically how many pages can be kept without affecting the performance.
    You can see the current value of this maximum as the value of the read-only pref places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages on the about:config page.
    See Marco Bonardo's blog about this subject:
    * http://blog.bonardo.net/2010/01/20/places-got-async-expiration
    If you still have browser.history_expire_days prefs then you can reset them via the right-click context menu.
    You can delete all places.sqlite files including places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal in case there is a problem with the file.
    You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • CPU hang after Winows XP shutdown.... ??????

    Hello. This is my first time havin to ever do this in a long time, so here goes.
    System Specs:
    P4 Prescott 3.0Ghz
    2 gigs DDR 3200 400Mhz
    MSI 865PE Neo2-P mobo
    2 Maxtor HD's, one is hooked up via S-ATA
    1 DVD Burner and 1 CD Burder
    BFG GeForce 7800 GS 256MB
    SB Audigy MP3+
    Onboard LAN card
    PCI Kingston LAN  card for ICS(old and cheap but works good for the purpose)
    I have never had this problem before. I am not sure if it is a Windows problem, PSU problem, or Mobo problem.
    Computer works great when running. All games and programs run excellent, smooth as a baby's ass. The problem is when I shut the computer down for the day, the last thing that happens when XP is shutting down is that it will say Shutting Down on the screen and when it finally turns the PC off, the cd rom and HD lights remain on and the fans are still spinning. The power button also quit working when this started. I have to shut it off by clicking off the PSU switch. Here is the fun part. When I turn it back on, my 4 LEDs are all red, indicating a CPU failure. Whoa! Slow down! This thing is only like a year old and it is not overclocked or pushed! Temps are always low because artic silver is awesome. I have tried removing everthing in the case to see if it was hardware, including hard drives, and still the same problem. Maybe it's the new video card? Nope. Even when I remove the card I get the same lights, no beeping or nothing. The fans all turn on and work fine. The heatsink is still attached to the CPU well.
    So I tried to jump the CMOS jumper to reset everything. YAY! It works again! Life is great! I can get back to playing Heroes V! The night is over, so I shut down again. Boom! Same problem! As soon as Windows XP shuts down completely it hangs again and I cannot restart it. I'm also keeping in mind the fact that my power button is still not working anymore. I removed the connection from the mobo for the power button but it did not help anything at all.
    This is the weirdest issue I have ever had. I'm assuming it's a mobo problem cause the power button quit at the same time, but if the mobo had an issue, why would it work fine after jumping it? I need some serious help. As much as I can leave this thing running all the time, I would still like it to rest at night. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

    Actually this is a common issue on both MSI and ASUS mobos. I have seen it before. Surprised many here haven't had it. But I build 2 machines a month and have seen it a lot about a year ago.
    Heres the deal. I don't think its a hardware issue as much as its xp not knowing what to do.
    Heres where I would start:
    1. Make sure you have the mobos latest firmware. (Although this usually doesn't fix jack)
    2. Guess what, you will have to reinstall windows xp. Sorry.
    But it's actually not that bad heres what I would do.
    Find a scrap hard disk somewhere. Boot off the cd to install windows xp. as it starts and the blue screen comes up do the following. Wait for windows to say press F6 to add special hd driver. When this comes up press F5 notice I said F5. I actually press F5 and F6 not sure if F5 will do what we want alone but I'd try F5 first. If you press F6 too don't worry you can always skip putting in the hd driver.
    I also do not install any SATA drivers if I have non raid SATA installed. I let windows take care of that.
    Ok so you press F5 after a minute a window will come up that wants to know what kind of system your running. It used to be you would select normal system. Well scroll up and select ACPI uniprocessor. If you have one CPU. In my case I have a dual core and select ACPI mulitprocessor not sure its a multiprocessor but I don't see a problem. After you select that you install windows as normal.
    These new mobos have ACPI and if it isn't selected at install they tend to have issues like this.
    I haven't seen this problem again since I did these procedures. I'm not 100% sure this is what solved it. But it used to happen every new install I did about a year ago.
    Since I recommend doing it on a spare junk drive it shouldn't be too much of an inconvience to do this. By the way it may also have to do with SATA hard disks but I never pegged that down either. I just know I do not have this issue on new installs anymore. The newer asus boards were always giving me grief like this. One reason I switched to MSI after 15 years of ASUS only.
    Oh yeah, just try it with one drive. Keep it as simple as you can. Its only a test setup and can be performed a few times before you get it right. Then you can do it to your real hd.

  • X300 XP-Pro 100% CPU Hang

    Have an x300 with Windows XP Pro.
    Get a 100% CPU situation ... I think (mostly? or always) with the wireless radio 'ON".
    Suggestions to fix?
    Thanks,
    Joe T.

    Joe,
    I typed up a long and detailed response just to have it all dissappear on me, I'm very frustrated... So, in short (hopefully before I "lose" this type up too), click on the Support and Downloads link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/homeLenovo.do?country=us
    When the form ask for Type, you should be able to find that number under your laptop. There are recent updates for BIOS (which I think helped my problem a bit), and updates for Access Connections (which may help your wireless radio problem).
    Good luck with this, update this thread if you can.

  • Old P3 CPU hangs when starting KMS with stock and ck kernels

    Hi, I have an old Pentium 3 machine on which I run Arch. If I try to boot the current stock kernel (or the ck kernel) the system freezes at boot. The system is still responsive, I can login via ssh but the screen is freezed. I nailed down the problem to KMS: booting with the nomodeset kernel option solves the problem. I have no problem in booting the lts kernel with KMS enabled, so I guess something changed between kernel 3.0 and 3.9 in this regard. Is anyone with old hardware experiencing this as well? It's not a big deal since I can live with lts kernel or disable KMS, but nevertheless I'd like to understand and possibly fix it. I can provide more informations on demand (right now I don't know what might be useful).
    Thanks

    snack,
             From experience, I have found that trying to use Arch Linux (a leading edge OS) on very old hardware is like trying to plug all the holes in an old wooden leaky boat when all you have is composite materials. It becomes increasingly difficult to keep older hardware working when using leading edge software.
    If you are happy to administrator the system using Arch then you may need to remain with linux-lts etc. The other problem I have run into is getting the older APG video cards to work & if you can get them working at a decent resolution getting them to render anything from a browser will bring the system to it's knees.
    My suggestion is trying a few Linux systems that are purpose built to be used on older systems. You may even have some luck with "enterprise" OSs such as Scientific Linux or Centos as they use older kernels & software.

  • Itunes driving me crazy! - CPU hogging, hanging up  -update: problem solved

    My itunes (v.7.4.2) seems to have a problem that I can't find a solution to. I play a song...it plays, then uses like 90-100% of the CPU, hanging up at the same time (lots of spinning beachball) while continuing to play the track and getting an "App not responding message". This lasts maybe 3 or 4 minutes and it winds down, "App not responding" message disappears, at which point I can sometimes (not always) do something with it (i.e. play another track, stop, quit, etc) for a minute or so or until I push play again...then a given song will play and it will hang, drive the CPU again. fans turn on...drives me nuts!
    this repeats over and over.
    I have:
    Restarted
    Cleared caches, repaired permissions, etc with Cocktail
    Deleted the plists and started new
    All to no effect.
    Other info - I have a huge library on three drives. 100GB or so. worked fine until very recently, though I have no idea what could have catalyzed this behavior. Occurs when external drives are disconnected and playing from internal mp3s.
    Yay - I solved the problem myself...Had Albumartthingy installed some time back and it was gumming things up. deleted all of it and now it seems to be running fine. beware of third party apps that interfere with Itunes! thought I'd post this anyway to add to the knowledge base...

    ok, i can rip music to my windows media player and then manually transfer it to itunes...is this the same concept as importing directly to itunes?

  • Europa Universalis IV on STEAM - coredump creation & CPU 1 hanging

    When I run EUIV on steam and if I exit it my first CPU hangs on 100%. When I check /var/lib/systemd/coredump I have two coredump files created which names usually start at ".core.eu4.100.ad51620...". I have no clue what can happen that thing.
    I work on i7-2630qm with nvidia gt 540m.
    I have no such issues when i run that command:
    primusrun ~/.steam/root/SteamApps/common/Europa\ Universalis\ IV/eu4
    When I try to run game in that way everything works fine. There are no coredumps created and CPU doesn't hang at 100%. Do you have any ideas how to solve that problem?

    I don't really understand how this sort of stuff works. But I can tell you that EU4 works fine for me without having either of those libraries on my system.
    As you can see below, I get the same output as you do when performing the tests you did. The game launches fine despite this though. So I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere for clues.

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 slow, hangs, loses passwords... Should I revert to a different version?

    I've been using Dreamweaver since version 2 in 1998. These days I use it mostly for editing PHP / HTML / CSS. I don't use the visual editing features much.
    With each release, Dreamweaver gets slower and less reliable. I'm at my wits end. This morning:
    When using Find: Entire Local Site feature on a relatively large site (about 10,000 pages) the find just stops about 20% through, takes up 100% of my CPU, hangs indefinitely. I have to force-quit.
    When opening files that tie in with a substantial javascript framework (e.g. twitter bootstrap) opening files, even bringing the file to focus, saving files, is unbearably slow. I've already turned off Enable Related Files.
    For the first time ever, Dreamweaver is now just losing my FTP passwords and I'm having to type them in again from scratch. Might have to do with force-quitting (see #1.)
    I'm actively looking for a replacement code editor at this point. So far, nothing quite fits the bill. In the meantime, can anyone recommend a process for getting Dreamweaver to be faster and more reliable? I'm very much willing to downgrade, etc.

    > were you opening them in live view or design view
    Neither -- I work 100% in code view. That's why I'm fairly intolerant for slowness. I use Dreamweaver as a code/text editor exclusively. I love the way it colorizes, checks syntax, does PHP lookup functions.
    > Can you please let us know how many related files like js, css etc are present among your 10000+ files?
    I'll do you one better: I'm sending you a private message with a link to download the template + framework I'm using. You should be able to open up any number of files and experience the problem for yourself.
    FYI: With my downgraded (2014.0) version, I still get a lot of beach balls simply when bringing focus back to a Dreamweaver document, or when I start typing something new. However saving is now instant again, which is nice.

  • How prevent Finder Hang in 10.4.7?

    My problem probably has the same cause as others in this list but the symptoms are simpler. I have a G4 and a G5 Mac connected in a local network via a MIH-130 XRouter Pro and both are on 10.4.7. My wife and I use either machine but we have a single copy of each family database on one of the Macs, with an alias on the other. For the last two years this has worked fine but not since 10.4.7.
    On the G4 I have an alias for Pictures and Movies and also some in Documents. If the G5 is up, then G4 Finder works fine and opens G5 with an icon. If the G5 is sleeping, and no G5 icon , then on clicking G4 Finder to Home, the Home folder has 2 modes of opening.
    Mode 1. The Home folder opens and the alias are shown (as alias). Double clicking an alias causes an attempt to open the G5 but CPU hangs with 1 minute timeout.
    Question: Can someone tell me which parameter in which plist file determines the timeout so I can reduce it to 10 seconds.
    Mode 2. The Home folder does not show and the disk of death spins for ever. I can relaunch Finder but effect returns whenever I try to show the Home folder. If I turn on the G5, Finder works again but my neighbor has a laptop as the second machine and that may be elsewhere. Almost catastrophic.
    After 10.4.7 installation it started in mode 2. I fooled around with Finder parameters and it changed to mode 1. After more fooling it reverted to mode 2 and I do not seem to able to get back to mode 1.
    Question: Any ideas on which parameter may be causing mode 2.
    I have reported this problem to Apple but with no response, who knows ?
    G4 Desk and iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Many thanks to Scott Micciche for the helpful reply. Here is my feedback.
    I first just: removed com.apple.finder.plist, restart, restored Finder options.
    Major differences in root dictionary key/value pairs: old 53 new 10, later 21.
    G4 had changed to Mode 1. Good.
    Now, how do I reduce the timeout in mode 1?
    However!
    If in Mode 1, I double click Pictures, then during timeout looking for G5, relaunch Finder, I get mode 2. That is after any relaunch, Finder shows same window but with home directory empty and wait disk spins for ever. There is no way out of this, except to wake up G5. Clearly, I can avoid doing this but is the result a clue to the original problem? It is easy to double click the alias by accident and the wait is very tedious, so a good reason to reduce timeout.
    I did use your command to delete .Ds_Store (but with rm -fi, to see what I was doing) but, although it deleted several hundred files, it did not affect my problem.

  • Client process (uniengd) on the Calendar server is consuming 100% CPU usage

    The Calendar client bits in the Communicator 4.5 release (Calendar Build 981008)
    are suspect of hanging the Calendar server when the end user uses the off-line
    feature. The behavior seen will be that a cpu will start climbing and could
    reach 80-100% of usage, which will cause the response time for all other end
    users to be extremely slow and may not even accept any new logins.
    <P>
    The patch for these bits is available via the Smart Update (Windows and Mac) web
    site:
    <P>
    http://home.netscape.com/smartupdate/su1_40.html
    <P> Or you can download the complete version from
    http://home.netscape.com/download/selectplatform_1_361.html
    <P>
    For Unix platforms, you will need to download the compressed tar file
    (available from http://help/filelib.html#nscal)
    and reinstall it.
    <p>NOTE: To verify that you are executing a patched version, in the
    Calendar client:
    <b>Windows platform</b>
    <br>Help menu pulldown, About Netscape Calendar, make sure it has <b>Build
    981104</b> or higher.
    <br><b>Mac platform</b>
    <br>Select the file from your desktop
    <br>File menu pulldown, Get Info. Make sure has a <b>date of 121698, version
    4.51</b> or later.
    <br><b>Unix platform</b>
    <br>Help menu pulldown, About Netscape Calendar, make sure it has is <b>Version
    4.51</b> or higher
    <P>
    The procedure for determining which user of Calendar is causing the server's cpu
    hang is as follows:
    <OL>
    <LI>Using your favorite monitoring tool on the server, note the PID
         (process ID) of the uniengd process that is consuming
    80 - 100% cpu activity.
    <LI>Change directory to /users/unision/db/tmp/PID#
    <LI>Execute the command "strings" on all the files in the directory
         (there are usually not very many):
    <P>
              # strings *
    <P>
         Near the end of the output, you will see the user's name.
    <LI>You can now kill the uniengd process on the server:
    <P>
              # kill PID# (note: do not use the kill -9 unless absolutely
              necessary!)
    <P>
    <LI>Contact the name of the user whose process you looked up and determine
         what version of Calendar client they are using. Immediately inform
         them of your procedure on upgrading to the correct version.
    </OL>

    Hi TrondWH,
    Thanks for contacting Microsoft.
    Currently, would you please try cleaning boot the server and test how the issue goes. Cleaning boot can exclude some third-party application affect. Following are the detailed steps about clean boot:
    Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
    Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the
         System Configuration Utility.
    On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
    On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
    Click OK, Choose Don’t show this message again and then click Restart.
    Please check if the issue is still the same.
    Please let me know the result.
    Best regards,

  • Mobile cFP-2020 hangs

    Hi!
    Background: Mobile Datalogger for a transportation cooling system including temperaturs, humidity, fuel, GPS / GSM Modem (serial ports) with a cFP-2020/LabView system.
    I have different loops for reading sensor values, write data to flash, communicate with GPS and Modem via RS232.
    Problem: CPU hangs after a couple of hours every time it is rebooted.
    Does anybody have an idea?
    Regards, Louis

    Louis,
    What do you mean by hang? Does the program simply appear to stop doing anything, or does the unit re-boot and start flashing the status LED?
    Assuming that it is the latter (which is a crash), the most likely culprit is memory allocation. Assuming that it is the former, than you will have to add in diagnostics to assist you in tracing the source of the hang. A question that comes to mind is are you using the Error cluster, and if so, how are you handling errors? If you wire the error cluster to all of the VIs, but do nothing to handle it, then after an error occurs, most VIs will stop executing (if Error Status==True).
    I recently had a program that appeared to hang after 24-48 hours. The system had 8 parallel loops each running a state machine and only some were getting hung. I added debug information to each loop through by using the PublishData.vi and published separate information on the state of each loop. By watching the timestamps and information, I was able to determine in which states the loops were when the hang occurred, and then added more debug markers in the specific states to further isolate the cause. I repeated the process until I had identified the specific VI that caused by hang. You can also use the LEDs (A-D) to display status information of the program.

  • CPU Load stays 100%

    Hello,
    im running into a problem with the FMS blocking our FMS
    server with 100% CPU load.
    the scenario:
    - We use the FMS only for chatting and NOT for streaming.
    - Server is ~ AMD X2 5600 / 2GB / Gentoo
    - We have peaks with a lot of people chatting simultaniously
    in "rooms" with
    up to 50 people in the same room.
    at around 1500/2000 simultanious chat connections the server
    reaches its limits
    it goes up to 100% CPU use and now the problem starts:
    The server never again uses less then the 100% cpu unless you
    manually restart
    the application. Even if the connections drop again to lets
    say 100 connections
    the CPU hangs at 100%.
    Did anyone experience this problem aswell? Is there a
    workaround that the server
    recovers after too many connections? what could be the
    problem (besides the many connections)?
    And one more questions that i have:
    There will be certainly way more then 2000 simultanious Chats
    that we have to handle.
    Is there a way to have chats / shared objects deployed
    transparent over multiple FMS instances?
    meening does the FMS scale in a way that conected clients are
    visible over multiple
    fms instances / servers?
    Thank you - Stephan

    Since there are 3 heat sinks that I can see , I was asking if anyone knew where the temperature reading is coming from.
    1) The blue heat sink with letter "Military Class 3" next to the CPU
    2) The blue heat sink with letter "OC Genie II"  next to the CPU
    3) The blue heatsink with letter "msi" located next to pci express slot
    Because #1 and #2 are next to the CPU cooler, which should be forcing air around them,  I am suspecting maybe the reading is from #3.
    Old MSI boards had sensors for Northbridge and Southbridge, but the new ones, I am not sure where the reading is coming from.
    ====
    Update: I've confirmed the reading is most likely from the "msi" heat sink... By directing more cool  air toward that area, the  motherboard temperature has dropped to about 34 to 35C.
    ====
    Anyway the following are reading from various different software before the change in air flow toward the "msi" heat sink:
    CPUID Hardware Monitor:
    TZ00 => 28 C - never changes
    TZ01 => 30 C - never changes
    TMPIN0 => CPU temp: varies from 31 to 65
    TMPIN1 => Motherboard temp: slowly rises upto 40 C
    Open Hardware Monitor
    Temperature #1 => CPU temp: varies from 31 to 65 C
    Temperature #3 => MB temp: slowly rises upto 40 C
    AIDA64 Extreme
    Motherboard => slowly rises upto 40C
    CPU => varies from 31 to 65 C

  • WebCAM and Fn+F5 or F6 does not work on T430 running Windows 8.1

    I recently updated to Windows 8.1. I did not check the functionality of the Fn+F5 or F6 button back then. But I did run Skype two days ago with my webcam and that worked.
    Then I ran windows and Lenovo system Update and updated all drivers except the Lenove Fingerprint, SHAREIT and the latest BIOS which are marked optional.
    Now, no application can access my camera and the Fn+F6 does nothing.
    I did go into the Windows privacy settings. Here Skype is on. there is no way to add apps, so e.g. I cannot add Teamviewer program or the Camera app.
    I tried settings under Skype, but checking the webcam just makes Skype become unresponsive with a running circle. Same thing happens runnning Irfanview and trying to aquire a picture thought the webca,
    I tried the Lenovo PC-Settings app. From the screenshots I think it is the old one I am getting. I can choose btw. Pointer,Wireless Power and location. Nothing about the webcam.
    I tried stating it via the Lenovo Companion.  Same problem.
    In the process overview (Procexp from MS) I see Cammute.exe used by  numerous processes
    So, what can I do now to get them back?

    I can't reproduce your issue. Definitely that CPU hanging is abnormal. I'd assume the cause is driver but you reinstalled that one. Perhaps some driver is located in the stack unproperly as there are too may components - system drivers, Lenovo PM driver, dependency settings, camera driver and settings, metro app... Also there is USB Composite controller the camera is attached to.
    The only solution I see is ... delete everything I've mentioned above and reinstall them again using TVSU. Then install metro app.
    Also in order to check USB driver influence I'd delete that driver too (delete USB composite controller in Device Manager). Reboot the system, Windows will find new component and install its driver. Do it before installation other components using TVSU.
    Also try to connect USB devices (flash drives as an example) to every USB port and look at their behaviour.
