Netflix broken

IOS 7 caused NETFLIX to stop displaying widescreen SD using a composite video cable.  It used to work fine with the old versions.
I am using the latest versions of NETFLIX (10/9/2013) and IOS.  ipad tv-out setting "widecreen" on/off has no effect.  The video is displayed in "letterbox" format.
The "letterbox" display started with the upgrade of IOS while using the old version of NETFLIX.  Intermediate upgrades of NETFLIX completely disabled the TV out.  The latest NETFLIX get the display partially working, ie "letterbox".
Is there another setting somewhere in IOS to get back the widescreen SD display on the composite TV out?  Does HDMI now work?  RGB?

It's their website, but their website works on ALL THE other devices I have except for those that use mobile safari.
I was asking here mainly to see if other people had the same issue. I'm sure if I could ask netflix they would just blame Apple. Netflix doesn't have any way of asking (besides calling). So it makes it really hard to report website, compatibility issues, etc.
I love how using some other app is always the solution for the ipad. I know this same type of issue exist with okcupid for example, and obviously "there is an app for that" is the answer.
Maybe I just need to find a better browser for the ipad that will have less "gotchas" when it comes to website compatibility.

  • Netflix: Unable to Sign In (106:200) : Broken after two weeks of working

After two weeks of flawlessly working, ATV2 has decided it will no longer let me connect to Netflix. Keeps asking me to re-login.
    Here's what I've done:
    - Reset Apple TV
    - Reset router
    - Logged into Netflix via my computer (to prove I remember what my user id and passwd are)
    - Searched the Netflix site for (106:200) -> nothing
    - Tried to re-login 10 times on Apple TV. Had my wife watch me deliberately type in our info

Well in my case, I called Netflix. They reset the password on my account. I was able to get ATV2 to connect again.
In the process of entering my credentials multiple times, I suppose I may have locked myself out. I couldn't get the very polite Netflix phone operating to clarify if it was user error.
I still don't know why after two weeks of working fine, ATV2 suddenly challenged me to re-login to Netflix in the first place.
Disaster averted... 2yr old watching Wallace and Grommet as we speak.

  • I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).

I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc..  But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue.  They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago.  Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts!  Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?

    Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix )  Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use.  Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working.  Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it.  Nice feature of Ios5.  Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix.  The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working.  So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work.  No dice   Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything.  I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that.  Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening.  The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on.  He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes?  If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show.  Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working.  Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.
Hope this turns into something helpful for someone else out there.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite.  Videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix crash frequently.

First time participant.  Recently bought a Macbook Pro (early 2011) with an i5 processor.  Laptop is in EXCELLENT condition.  Upgraded memory from 4 gigs RAM to 8 gigs.  The RAM is Mac certified, but not purchased from Apple.  Running Yosemite 10.10.2.  This laptop belonged to my son so I know the history of it.  He had no problems watching videos when he was running previous OS X, up through Mavericks.  It seems that once he upgraded to Yosemite, all **** has broken loose.
I am having a terrible trying to watch videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix.  Sometimes it just locks up, and the rainbow wheel spins.  Sometimes everything crashes and gives a kernel panic message.  Other times it shuts the video down, and says that the plugin (Silverlight and Flash, both) have failed.  The most worrisome is the kernel panic shutdown.  I have tried everything, including:
Perused just about every discussion of same of similar problems on Google/Bing.
Re-setting the cable modem and wifi router.
Deleted Flash and Silverlight and reloaded fresh copies.
Adjusted settings in Netflix to the lowest quality and tried both Silverlight and Flash on Amazon Prime.
Tried three browsers, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.
Adjusted the settings in all three browsers to try and optimize watching videos.
Started up in safe mode to see if the problems clear.
Pulled the RAM upgrades and put in the original 4 gig sticks.
Signed out from the owner account and signed in as Guest.
Called Apple customer care and spent over two hours on the phone, only for the supervisor - yup, supervisor! - to tell me he was stumped and would have to kick it up to the technical folks.  Still haven't heard back from them.
After all these attempts to fix the problems, and then trying each "fix" individually, it is still virtually impossible to watch videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix without some type of crash part way through the video.  None of these things happen on YouTube, by the way, or any other video sites I have tried.  The only thing I haven't tried is starting all over again with a fresh install of Yosemite and all of its components.  Really don't want to do that because I am afraid of losing the Microsoft Office 2010 Pro I have loaded.  Paid a lot of money for a one-time use license.
Please, does anyone have a suggestion I haven't tried?  I'm to the point of sacrificing chickens and invoking the spirit of Steven Jobs!  Look forward to hearing some ideas.

Direct from Microsoft is the only safe place to get Silverlight http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/

  • Apple TV started having streaming issues with Netflix

Several days ago my Apple TV is no longer providing consistent streaming throught Netflix. Before that, I had great streaming through all content for many months.
Issues, configuration and some actions already taken:
Video quality starts suffering, then some pauses/buffering begins.
I have tried the same Netflix account, content and network to trace the issue and found out through my Macbook Air and iPad and the streaming is excellent.
My Apple TV is connected to my ISP through an Ethernet cable at 200 Mbps (tested @ Speedtest.net)
I already restarted several times, and restored once my Apple TV.
Software is updated since it became available.
Yesterday, I found a post which recommended to manually setup my DNS to 008.008.008.008 which I did and worked great at that time, but todays problems are back with that fixed DNS and with Auto setup.
I hove someone here can help me with some further advice, or perhaps Apple very soon releases a fix. Seems that the latest update improved Airplay consistency to deliver both video and audio and not only video, but might have broken Netflix streaming.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'm having the exact same issue since the latest update. I thought it was my internet connection but it worked perfectly fine in my ipad and macbook air.
I also have 2 Apple TV's and the problem is in both of them. I really hope apple fixes this issue ASAP.
In the meantime, if you wanna watch your netflix content on your apple tv with good streaming and you have an iPad/iPhone with netflix on it. I recommend Airplay mirroring the iOS device and then opening netflix, it will airplay the video content and the iphone/ipad screen will function as a remote control with all the settings and stuff...its kinda cool...the only bad thing is that you can't turn off the iPad/iPhone screen or it will pause the movie.
i hope this works for you while apple fixes this issue.

  • Apple tv buffering with netflix

I'm having problems with apple tv constantly buffering while watching a movie on netflix. I made sure the time zone is correct but I am still having problems.

    Nohurrie32 wrote:
It's pretty obvious that the wifi streaming is broken.....
Based on what?  Your statement with absolutely no facts to back it up?
Wireless issues are just that, wireless issues... they are not ATV issues.  Try using a little logic before making blanket, unintelligent statements.
FYI, this is a user to user forum, so Apple will not be responding here.
If you have personally been experiencing an issue for "almost two years" and cannot resolve the wireless problems with your network, then it's time to run a physical Ethernet cable or get someone knowledgable to setup the Wi-Fi in your home.

  • MacBook Pro overheating - broken fan?

    Hey guys,
I've had my laptop for a year and a half (since summer 2009) and I've had virtually no problems until recently. About a month ago, the fan would occasionally make a bit of a funny noise, but it didn't affect anything.
Then for the past few weeks, whenever I watch a video of some kind (netflix, hulu, youtube), the image starts getting choppy and my computer heats up. I downloaded iStatPro and smcFanControl, and both say that the only fan listed (Exhaust) is running at 000rpm and the temperature (of the cpu) gets up to 107 degrees CELSIUS. This is absurdly hot and I feel like I should be cooking on my laptop instead of using it normally.
I don't know much about computers, but I think it's safe to deduce that the fan is broken, right? And if so, how long do you think it would take to get fixed?
    Thanks everyone!

Yes, you can safely conclude that you need a fan replaced. As for how long it will take, only the place doing the repair can answer that. The job itself is quick, but the part may not be on hand and there may be other repairs ahead of yours in line. Get it in for service ASAP, and don't let it get close to 107° again in the meantime — that's too hot. The MBP should shut down for its own protection at about 105°.
Back up your hard drive before taking the machine in for service.

  • Apple TV is either junk or broken?

I have a new Apple TV, the latest ITunes on my PC (10.4), just downloaded the Remote App for my IPad (1st gen.) and the device simply does not work correctly. I can see Netflix fine and watch movies. I cannot connect to my music library on my PC (it worked for one day!). The Remote App sees my PC but not the ATV. The ATV sees no computers. The network is fine, works for every other devicev (4 laptops, a desktop, and my IPad) in the house including a new TV with direct Netflix access. Either the ATV is broken or the device/software is simply not ready for primetime. I have reconnected to the network at least twice, reset my router, reentered my user ID and password too many times to count. Should I return the device for a new one or just return the device for a refund?

There are many potential causes of the problems you list.  Trouble is finding it.  As you suggest it's not necessarily the device itself but potentially a combination of device and supporting software incuding itunes and Apple's communication libraries at fault.
Network or security software/firerwalls are most often to blame however, though you seem confident in your networks ability and it seems ok with other devices.  One thing I would try
The AppleTV may be fine, but it but as it's the rogue item i would hook it up to PC with a micro USB lead alone and do a factory restore via itunes - if that fails to help take it back and maybe give another one a shot - there will be lemons out there.
I have several AppleTV 1 and 2 and they work very well on the whole but like most such devices are not perfect.

  • Expose broken again

Once again, Expose is broken, using the killall dock command does not help, rebooting several times does not help. Magnification of the dock is broken, names of dock items is broken, magnification of time machine history is broken. I use no screensaver other than apple, but, have determined, this occurred right after the new safari and itunes update. also noticed the stars in time machine are moving in a jagged pattern instead of smooth. once again, i am going to do an OS reinstall to fix the issue with apples own software. Is anyone else having this annoying problem, and do you have a different fix than reloading the OS, again.

Update: last night I performed and erase and install. I created two partitions, breaking the former partition. Installed Leopard on both partitions. Created two new users on both partitions. restored my old user to one partition, rebooted and updated to 10.5.7. This might be a bit confusing, the bottom line is: I have one partition fully clean and not updated, and one partition with my user crap and updated to 10.5.7.
Okay, so when I boot to either partition or any user, the issue persists. Expose will not work. The magnifier on the dock fails along with the dock icon names not showing. Believe me, I am not use any other screen saver that what is offered by Apple, and then I only use the "computer name" saver.
So, I made an appointment for the apple store today. Because, software wise, the issues should not have been carried forward to the clean partition, nor, the other 4 new accounts I created. I would have thought, that if the ram went bad, I would have far more issues. Could this really be related to a bad location on the drive. Which, in all my expertise, I don't know if the install DVD places these files in the same location every time we re-install, if there is an OS expert out there maybe they can enlighten me. I have heard of this in the Windows world, that the same file is always written to the same location every time, by the OS install.
Also, I notice, that when at the netflix sight, the popups about each movie no longer work, just as the popups on the dock icons don't work.
I did perform a disk check when doing the erase and install, my DVD checked out okay.

  • Netflix keeps giving me this code which aint letting me watch a movie

i need help netflix won't let me see a movie it says "contact apple support" for some error

Did you figure this out?  I haven't rented a movie in this new iTunes yet and saw one tonight I wanted to rent.  Same fricken thing is happening to me.  I hate this new iTunes, and I really hate that there are problems like this....why the heck do they have to fix something that isn't broken and break it?  This just really stinks.

  • It seems when i try to login to Netflix it comes back with email id or password is incorrect (code 117), i can't find anything to fix this, help!!!

I've tried everything, reset, unplug, even have it connected via Ethernet, always the same outcome!  I can login on our iMac with no problem!

Finally someone who found the solution. I've been searching for the answer for a while, some people suggest resetting the Apple TV, reverting to the previous firmware, changing password to all numbers, you name it.
The right answer is: make sure to have a password with both letters and numbers. Someone at Apple must have thought to override the password requirements of Netflix, without telling anyone else. They need better change management procedures!

I can hear my guitar and record with Audacity, but when jackd enter into the escenario everything blows up. With the default options on i can make it run, but i get no sound of the racks or guitar effects processors neither the guitar tuners that use jack takes the sound from the guitar. My line input is in capture via alsamixer, but still no luck. Any clue on this? I'm skipping steps?
    Thanks in advance.

  • HT1688 I have a damaged I-Phone and I need the contents of my calendar off of it. I did not have Mobile me at the time.  Can I swap out the sim card from the broken phone to a new phone and recover this calendar?

I have an older I-Phone (3G) that for some reason the body of the phone has split in two.  This phone was a business phone and it had a lot of important information on it. I have a second phone that is also a 3G.  On the broken phone there is a lot of important information that I need in my calendar. Im not worried about anything else but the calendar.  I didn't have the Mobile Me account at that time or I would be having this problem. Does anybody know if I can ust switch out the sim cards. I just need to recover the old calendar, so im hoping that the calendar will transfer when I switch the sim card into the good 3G. If that doesn't work does anybody know of anyway that I can retrieve this information off of this phone?

Nothing is stored on the sim card on an iPhone.  If you backed up to your computer the backup will contain your calendar events.  Otherwise, if your phone isn't functioning there is no way to back up or extract your calendar at this point.

  • HT1384 My lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch is broken, and I need some assistance.

As the title suggests, I can not use the lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch, it is broken. I can use Adaptive Touch to turn the screen on and off at will, and also turn my device off. But if I turn it off, I don't know how to get it to turn back on. Could I just plug it into a charger and turn it back on, or would I need to plug it into my computer? Please help, in a few days I won't have access to it for 9 weeks, I need immediate help.

If you power off the iPod, it will turn back on if you connect it to a charger like a wall charger or a computer. I just checked with a charging source to confirm. I knew it did it with a computer.

  • Error during 10.8.2 Update - Appstore and iTunes Broken

    Hi Guys,
I hope you can help me with this one.
I just installed the 10.8.2 update trough App Store, then it asked me to restart my computer... During the restart some error message appeared saying that the installation could not be completed due to an unexpected error, and then restarted my computer automatically.
The problem is, now both my App Store and iTunes are broken, here are the details of the error message I get when I try to launch App Store either normally or using the Apple > Software Update menu option:

    I had this problem too.
    Go to http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1580
Download the update manually and install. Worked on my MBP15 retina.
    Regards
    Chris
