Netgear WNR854T

Has anyone successfully connected to this router via an airport wireless connection. My niece just got a macbook, and I tried to help set her up to this modem her dad purchased. I am able to connect wirelessly her macbook to my older netgear wgr614 with no problem. I have my macbook and imac connected wirelessly as well to the wgr614 router with no problem. I do not know if its because this new router is the new b/g/n type or what. Would appreciate any feedback and/or setting parameters I may missed.

Maybe the Newer Netgear router is broken. Can anything connect?
Pick one, any one, I have it   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

  • Thought on Netgear WNR854T Gigabit N Router

    Hi,
Curious on the user experience with the Netgear Gigabit Wireless N router. I'm leaning towards this router and I would like to know what you think about it.

I would avoid netgear products. I have used three new ones in the past 6 months and they all have one issue that is a deal breaker for me.
Their firewalls block ports 5190, 5220, 5222, etc.
    These are essential iChat ports.
When I called and spoke with their customer service he told me what I wanted to do - have my computer, my brother, and my girlfriend on iChat - was a pro feature of the router. That to open ports for more than one internal IP was something that couldn't be done.
I personally really like Buffalo products if you like setting up things and having as much control as possible.
For 802.11N I went with Belkin's N1. I went through 5 routers in 7 days when trying to replace my old D-Link. I am very picky about my network products and extremely abusive in terms of bandwidth.
The Belkin N1 has been pushing an 8mbps connection to 4 wired devices and up to 8 wireless devices with mixed 802.11b/g/n simultaneously. This same use crashes most D-Link routers I've tried as well as EVERY Netgear router I tried in that week. The Belkin N1 has never crashed even when running heavy usenet and bit torrent, internal file sharing servers over obscure ports as well as general use. Highly recommended.

  • Corruption of downloaded ISO images

    Dear All,
I've tried a number of times to download Oracle 10g, Enterprise Linux and the files are always corrupted. I've looked on the Internet and seen that others are experiencing the same problems. Downloads from other sites work fine, including downloading very large files.
I'm using a Windows XP Pro PC sitting behind a NetGear WNR854T Switch that is hooked up to my cable modem. I've tried the downloads with Internet Explorer 6 and with FireFox 2. I use WinRAR to expand them.
This is getting very frustrating and my question is:
Does anybody know a way to download the files without them getting corrupted, or
does anybody know of another way to get these files.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
    Regards,
    Carl.

I'm using IE and Firefox behind a netgear too and it's fine. I had long conversations with edelivery over this and they were all resolved.

  • FTP program not showing Airport Disk folders or files

I have just recently changed my wireless router to an Airport Extreme (gigabit) from a Netgear WNR854T (that was having up-time issues). I have an old PC that I use for an FTP server control with the Serv-U package. When I had the WNR854T running I just had an external drive attached to the PC via USB and the program would map it as a path with no stress.
Now that I have the Airport Disk function on the Extreme I have moved the external drive (which is actually 2 x 500GB SATA drives in a dual bay enclosure, formatted as separate OSX Extended drives) to the port on the back. This is working great for my wireless PowerBooks and MacBook, and my PC (which is wired ethernet) has the 2 drives mapped as X and Y, and I have no trouble moving, creating or re-naming files within Explorer.
The issue I currently have is that the FTP package will see the Airport Disk (the one I want to use is X:/) and I can make it show up within Serv-U ... but it simply will not open when I login remotely to give me a list of folders contained in X:/ ... it will let me look at the windows c:/ though.
    My 3 questions are:
    - has anyone else experienced this problem??
    - do you think this is a PC issue and I should find a cheap Mac Mini and make a new FTP server (with something like PureFTP for control)??
    - does the above make sense at all??
    Thank-you!

I have now set up my Powerbook G4 with Pure FPTd Manager and I am still getting intermittent issues.
Every now and then (but very rarely) it will connect fine but on the whole I am not getting a connection. It seems like there is a problem with listing what is actually in the directory as Cyberduck will show the directory but then it contains nothing.
Can some people let me know about their successful FTP server with an Airport Extreme Gigabit??
    Thanks.

  • Need to expand the range of my wireless network

I live in a fairly long pre war NYC apt with thick walls. I have an old SMC barricade that works well with my Ibooks, macbook and imac (not so well with my pc laptop that I use for work). I just bought a PS3 for my son, on the other side of the apartment. it doesnt pick up the signal.
I picked up a Netgear WNR854T and a Belkin N1 to test. I know it wont improve the performance of any of my computers, but it's strictly range that's important to me. $130 for an N router is still cheaper than buying 2 airport extremes .
    Am I missing something?

I have found a setup which works great for me. Its a little more expensive (not too much), but its very flexible. The best purchases I've ever made. Really.
I use 2 Airport Express (much cheaper than the Airport Extreme) set up to extend each other using WDS (one as 'main base station' the other as a 'remote base station'). This essentially extends the range of the network to cover two apartments on our floor very nicely. It also allows you to plug-in an ethernet cable from the remote base station to the playstation or other non-wireless computer (my girlfriend has a PC with no wireless card), essentially creating a wireless bridge-which is a nice undocumented feature. I use this setup just to avoid having a cable strung across the living room. Plus the obvious benefit of being able to play music wirelessly to your stereo and/or connect and share a printer.
I've tried setting this up with 3rd party wireless routers (I think it was a Netgear-not sure which model) and an airport express working together, but there was no way to create a WDS network using the the non-apple wireless router. Apple aiports (express or extreme) seem to just play well together, especially with more complicated configurations, and are a snap to set up.
If I go on a trip I can also just grab one of the Airport Expresses, plug it into the hotel or room and have instant wireless wherever I go. Depending on how your home network is set up you may need change the settings on the express. This can be done easily by saving and loading different configuration profiles into the Express.
You can also still use your other equipment to act simply as a router (either wireless or wired) you just probably won't be able to 'extend' those networks. That way the 'main base station' Express will be set up to get its IP through DHCP, which is much simpler, especially if you are moving things around a lot.
To find out where to place the second Express, you can walk your laptop down the apartment until you start loosing the first signal. That's where you want the second Express. I use a little widget called "AirTrafficControl" to see a more finite view of the connection strength.
To find out about setting up a WDS with 2 or more base-stations see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107454
Not that other systems won't work just fine, but in the end I just love the convienience (size!), simplicity, and flexibility of the Express. With everything else I've tried I always run into some incompatibility somewhere down the line.
Hope this helps. Good luck with whatever system you choose.

  • Trouble connecting to other nodes on network

Within the last month or so, I've noticed that I cannot connect to other nodes which are on my network from my MacBook. More specifically, I have a Buffalo Linkstation Network Attached Storage drive (wired), a Windows XP PC (wired), and my wife's MacBook (wireless), all connected via a Netgear WNR854T router. Whenever I browse to the "Network" in Finder, all of the machines display icons, however when I double-click on one, I get the following message: "The alias 'xyz' could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." I get options to "Delete Alias" or "Fix Alias". When I attempt to delete the alias I get the error message that I do not have the appropriate privileges for the corresponding machine.
I don't get this problem, however, when I try to connect to my wife's MacBook or when I'm connecting to my MacBook from another machine. When using the PC (or the virtual machine in Parallels), I see my MacBook and can connect and browse files to my heart's content. In addition, my wife has not experienced any of these problems when connecting. She can see the network attached drive, the PC, etc. and can connect without issue.
One interesting thing I did notice is that if I use the "Go -> Connect to Server" and type the IP address of, say, the NAS, it will allow me to mount the volumes (folders I have on the NAS). Although interestingly enough, the folder I really want isn't displayed as an option to mount even though, once again, I can get to it from any other machine except this MacBook.
I haven't (knowingly) changed any configuration setting and the only hardware change I've made to my network is replacing an old Netgear router with this new one last week. But as I've mentioned, I had been experiencing this problem even with the older router. Does anyone have any suggestions which will help me get back to browsing my network like I used to?

Firstly, a note of caution... You need to take care when editing NetInfo, because if you make a mistake, you could render your account (or someone elses) unusable.
When you connect to a network with a Mac OS X server present, you can receive network settings via DHCP. Deleting mcx_cache wil reset all of these settings, which will hopefully restore your Mac to the way it was before. To do this, go into NetInfo Manager, which you'll find here:
    Applications/Utilities/NetInfo Manager
Click on the padlock icon (bottom left) and autheticate as an administrator. Click on the "/" menu, which should be in the far-left column. In the sub-menu to the right, there should be an item called mcx_cache. Click on this, and then click on the Delete button, and confirm you want to delete.
Now quit out of NetInfo Manager and restart your Mac. When you check your Network icon in the Finder, it's contents should be back to normal.

  • WVC54GCA Installation issue

I have read a few posts re installation issues and 192.168.1.115 ip errors trying to get the camera to work. I dont find a resolution that helps me so thought I would post before I launch the camera with trash!
    Im hooked up on a netgear WNR854T router on with gateway 192.168.11.1. When running setup the settings reproted back are;
    Status:             Unconfigured
    Camera Name:  MyCamera
    NW Config:       DHCP
    IP:                   192.168.1.115
    SN Mask          255.255.255.0
    DF GW            0.0.0.0
I then proceed through set up, setting both DHCP and static on different attempts and manualy configuring wireless as it fails to find on search or after many refresh.
    Encryption is - WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
I have tried many hard reboots all without success, receiving "Save configuration has failed!"
I am running W7 and camera does not appear in [Network] and so far has not apperead under [Attached Devices] on router.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

WVC54GCA Camera works on the DHCP. If you hardwired the Camera to the Router, your router should automatically assign a IP to your Camera. To know the camera IP address you need to login to the camera setup page and under the DHCP Client table list you will find the Camera IP address. Using that IP address you can login to your camera and make the changes on it.
If its not listed under the DHCP Client table list, then you need to Press and Hold the reset button on your camera for 30sec.. Release the Reset button and then after 30sec plug the power to the Camera.... Now check if the Camera is listed under the DHCP Client table. If yes then you can use that IP address to login to the camera setup page and make the changes on your Camera.

  • My WiFi Fix!

I have a netgear wgr614v6 router and for some reason when I accessed my network with both my laptop and iphone there was someone sort of conflict neither device would be able to acccess the internet causing me to have to turn off the iphone wifi and then disconnecting my laptop from the network and reconnecting it to get it to work. So all I did was go into the router settings and assign a static ip address to my Iphone(mac address). It seems like when the iphone was asking for an ip address from the router it was messing everything else up including my laptop and my xbox 360 would kick me off the online service in the middle of the game. There is deffinitely a serious software flaw somewhere in there especially when you look at the amount of posts on this board from 3g owners and original owners with the 2.0 upgrade. Just my two cents. I forgot to add that I was just at my parents and they had a 2wire dsl modem/router all in one piece and I had no problems getting on the internet with a laptop while I was on the iphone internet, not sure why??? maybe something on my router is set wrong but for now it works with my temp fix.
    Message was edited by: SFLapple

I am also experiencing the same issue. I have a netgear WNR854T with the latest firmware 1.4.34NA. I can confirm that it is not a DHCP problem with my router. my laptop gets assigned a static Ip address of 192.168.1.105 and the DHCP server starts assigning IP addresses at 192.168.1.2. its very easy for me to reproduce the problem. On my 3g iphone i simply try to access the internet. when it asks which network to join i click on my local wifi connection and it complains that it cannot join the network. at the exact same time my laptop gets knocked off the wifi network. All this time i've been frustrated with my HP notebook & Intel 802.11n network adaptor thinking it was dropping the connection, but i finally found the culprit to the problem today - my 3G iphone
I have temporarily disabled wifi on my iphone until i can find out how to resolve the problem.

  • Few questions about Time Capsule

I'm getting a Time Capsule soon & have a few questions:
Could I use my old router (Netgear WNR854T Gigabit) somewhere else in the house to boost the wireless signal?
(My house is very long. The office (where the router is located) is at one end of the house & with my current N router & the signal doesn’t quite reach the other end of the house). If so are there instructions somewhere on setting this up?
Could I run the first Time Machine backup connected via ethernet then once the full backup is complete switch to backing up via AirPort?
If I attach a USB drive could I use Time Machine to backup to the USB drive & leave the storage on board the Time Capsule for other purposes, or can it only backup via Time Machine to the Time Capsule’s default storage?
If I use Time Machine to backup to Time Capsule’s default storage is it possible to partition the disk so that there’s a fixed amount of space allocated to the Time Machine backup. If not is it possible to specify in the settings how much space allocated to the Time Machine backup?
I take it I could set the Time Capsule at N speed & my iPhone will still connect at the G speed right?

    Some issues I can answer:
You cannot use your Netgear to extend the Range. Another Airport would be necessary and it still will be a critical theme. Instructions are easily to locate in the Help of of the AirPort Utility.
Yep, you can run the first BackUp via Ethernet.
I cannot surely answer your questions concerning TimeMachine as I dont use it, eventhough I like my TimeCapsule.
11n supports different modi. There is a 11n modus which will allow your iPhone to
connect, while other modi just allow only 11n devices.
    In general:
Dont expect to much from 11n. Its better than 11g but not that much. I just made tests and ended up, prefering a 100Mbit DLAN connection which was way faster and more reliable than 300Mbit via 11n-only 5Ghz.
'Hope I could help a little bit.

  • Network Magic has difficulty identifying the Internet gateway

I am using a Netgear WNR854T router in a secondary position.  The primary router is a Verizon (FIOS) Actiontec.  I have given the Netgear router a static address of 192.168.1.55  and have set 192.168.1.1 (the Verizon router) as the primary gateway.  Network magic incorrectly shows the Netgear as the Internet connection.  Occasionally this will change and the Verizon router will be shown as the Internet gateway.  When this happens all of my computers (wireless and wired) will show me connected to a new network.  Is there some settings in either of these routers that I should check or change so that the Verizon router is consistently viewed as the gateway?  Internet connectivity seems to be OK no matter which router Network Magic seems to think is the gateway.  I can not address the Netgear router over the network for some reason (must physically attach it to a computer)  Thanks for any help.

Hi, is DHCP disabled on your Netgear router?
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • How do I use a Netgear CM400 cable modem with my Time Capsule router?

I switched out my TWC modem for one I bought. I called and activated a CM400 Netgear modem with time Warner cable. They said it is activated and responding. My time capsule is on a green solid light but i can't connect to the Internet! Why??

Your previous setup may have been a modem router and the TC is connected in the wrong mode.. it should be dhcp and nat with a pure cable modem.. is it?
You also might need to put the TC into the correct mode.. then power off the modem for about 15min.. (try 5min first).. power up the modem.. wait 5min and then power up the TC .. it should grab the public IP and route that to the network.. reboot all the clients so they get fresh connection and see if that works.
If not give us a few screenshots from the airport utility of how the TC is setup.

  • How to for HP CP1525nw Apple AirPrint and Netgear WNDR3700 router

How to setup AirPrint on an iPhone & iPad with a HP CP1525nw and Netgear WNDR3700 router
    Date written:  April 17, 2011
I did this twice. It took 2 days the first time and 3 hours the second time.
    Equipment used:
    iPhone 4 on AT&T
    iPad 2 on Verizon
    HP LaserJet CP1525nw color laser
Netgear  N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNR3700 v2
Abstract: Upgrade Apple products software, upgrade router firmware, upgrade HP Printer firmware and installer. In that order. Reboot a lot. Test as you go.
APPLE - Upgrade iTunes to the latest version  10.2.1.1 Released around mid April, 2011.
This will Upgrade iPhone 4 to version 4.3.2 (AT&T) Check in Settings under About.
This will Upgrade iPad 2 to version 4.3.2 (Verizon) Check in Settings under About.
NETGEAR - Upgrade the Netgear 3700 router from version 1.0.0.6 to version 1.0.0.8 using the built in webpage to check for updates. The router will download and install the updates. This will also update the built in Web setup GUI from 1.0.0.56 to 1.0.0.67.  Power off and on the router.  To see your version, check Status under Maintenance
Now is a good time to setup Wireless security in the router. Set to WPA PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES). Uncheck Enable Wireless Isolation.
Enter a password for both bands 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, I used the same for both. (the iPad can use the 5 GHz WiFi band but not for printing {?} so use 2.4 GHz when you print.) You should give them different SSID names, like NETHOME and NETHOME-5. These will show up on your wireless devices (like the iPad but not iPhone)
Make sure your computer, iPhone and iPad can connect to the internet before you go on.
HP PRINTER – Go to HP’s website and down load the latest Installer and firmware for the CP1525nw.
    Printer webpage
This is the webpage but you can just search for CP1525nw at the HP website.
Select your Operating System, such as Win 7 32 bit. And look at the list of downloads that appear below.  Under Drivers (2), you want to download the HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver. It says it is version 2.0 The Installer you will use is version 3.0.3.5253 as you will see.  The Installer on the CD is much older (1.4).
Now under Firmware (1)  download the newest firmware utility for the printer.  HP LaserJet Firmware Update Utility.  The file name is  CP1525_Series_FW_Update-20101125.exe [1/1, 6.87M]
Note the date is 20101125. My Printer had 20100430. These are the firmware version numbers.
So 2 programs from HP. One is the Installer and the other is the Firmware Updater. You can just click on the HP Full Feature Installer to run it. No CD needed anymore. You have to get the printer working on the USB port next, and then you can update the firmware in the printer.
You should uninstall any old drivers if it asks you. You are going to uninstall and reinstall 2 or more times. Uninstall old stuff, install new USB drivers from the new download, uninstall USB drivers, and install Wireless drivers.  But first get the USB working and printing. Print Config from the printer control menu to see your firmware version…. Reports/Config Report. Look at Firmware Date.
Now you can double click the 2nd HP program to upgrade the Printer firmware.  The file is called CP1525_Series_FW_Update-20101125.exe  This will upgrade the firmware over the USB port. When it is done you will get a yellow Happy Face. You can print Config Report from the printer controls to see the firmware version… 20101125.
Power off/on Printer.  Turn off cell phones, go into Airplane mode on the iPhone and iPad. You can turn on the iPhone and iPad WiFi but leave the 3G phone stuff off. This seems to be important, I think some of the “not found” problems are RF interference with the WiFi.
Run HP Installer again. Uninstall the USB driver and then run it again to install the printer as a Wireless Device. You will need to pick the router and enter the password so the printer can log on to the router.
Once you reboot the printer, check for the blue light on the front. Make sure the Wireless is turned on in the Printer Wireless settings.
Your iPad and iPhone will go through the Router and back out to the Printer to print. Uninstall Print n Share, Print Pro and other printing helpers.  (for now) Try printing now.  It doesn’t work with Notes, so try printing in Safari with the BoxArrow icon.
The first time you print, you should see the Printer in list, but I had to get out of the app and get back in to Print the first time. After that is works with the CP1525nw without picking the printer again. You will see a big print button.
We so excited…. AirPrint works.  (Needs some printer settings…landscape?)
Disclaimer – I don’t work for Apple, HP, Netgear, AT&T or Verizon. I work for free…  I would be willing to beta test for them, they need help.

My question is if its possible for the N devices to still use N network while the G devices not demoting the whole wireless network to G?
Yes. To do so, you would need to connect the Netgear to the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet, and then, reconfigure it as a bridge (disable both its NAT & DHCP functions).
In this configuration, the AEBSn & AXn can provide the 802.11n network and the Netgear can provide the 802.11g network.

  • HP LaserJet 6p and NetGear PS-101 Wireless Setup Driver Issue???

Does any one out there know how to make this combination work?
I use it on my wireless network all the time for PC's but can not get it to function properly on my iMac. The NetGear is plugged in the back of mp Laser Jet and a Cat 5 connects to my Belkin Pre-N Router.
IM definetely able to talk to it, but all I get is gibberish and multiple pages spit out of my laser jet.
I have selected and tried the following setings: Apple Talk, IPP, HP Jet select and the LPD dameon. All do the same thing.
Been to HP site looking for a fix. I think the drivers in the HP list are the problem. Infact some are GIMP beta's.
ID just love to get this working as theres so much I would like to print to learn this OS and get use to the Mac World.
I love this iMac and can't wait to migrate completely away from Windows.
Appreciate any advice or suggestions that one may have and Thanks!

Driver - Only CUPS drivers can use OS X's built-in network printing protocols. (postscript printers don't need a driver, just a PPD) Of all the non-postscript manufacturers, only Brother is making CUPS drivers available at this time. (Apple included Gimp-Print drivers because they are CUPS drivers - a limited number of printers are supported) Your Laserjet 6P is supported by the HP Laserjet 6 Series, Gimp-Print driver.
Next - print server setup. Since the Windows setup software doesn't work on OS X, we need to find the setup details ourselves. Your print server probably supports a couple of protocols- LPD, maybe IPP, and HP Jetdirect (called TCP/IP raw in most manuals). LPD and IPP require that you enter the print server's queue name in Printer Setup. Find the Queue name in the manual. L1, lpt1 and lp are common queue names.
    Hope this helps.
