Network Install with wireless

I'm attempting to help a friend install Arch. Network card is BCM4312 (on an ACER laptop), an iwconfig returns with no wireless devices found on lo or eth0, the two interfaces output. We would like to do a network install. The wiki doesn't specify how to deal with iwconfig being unsuccessful; is there anything to do, or should we plug an ethernet cable in and install, then configure wireless with drivers post install (and would that work)?

sorry, yeah setting up the wireless once the initial install is done shouldn't be a problem.  I believe my old laptop had the same wireless card, and it wasn't hard to setup at all, i just followed the wireless wiki.  I usually wait to setup the wireless until after the base install.

  • IPv6 Network Flood with Wireless Hyper-V Virtual Network

Recently, on our core switch (also our layer 3 router) we regularly see a high cpu load. This cpu load is the cause of packet loss and bad connections. This is happening for almost two weeks now.
Network inspection shows us that there is a flood of IPv6 Neighbor Advertisements originating from what seems the same IPv6 Address but from different Hardware (MAC) addresses. In each second there are up to a 1500 packets per second advertising
the same IPv6 address. See below for more details about these packets.
Tracing the MAC addresses to their owner learns that all clients are using Windows 8 with Hyper-V and that they have an External Virtual Network bound to their Wireless/WiFi Network Adapter. Removing this virtual network stops sending
those packets. Because multiple hosts are involved it may be necessary to remove this network on all of these hosts.
As is visible in the following packet dump this is an unsolicited neighbor advertisements, resulting in an update in the neighbor table on our IPv6 router. These updates are probably the course of the high cpu load.
      Frame: Number = 188594, Captured Frame Length = 86, MediaType = ETHERNET

Length: 1, in unit of 8 octets
         Address:
    00-24-D7-76-C4-68
Because the target address is the same in all packets but the MAC address changes, it seems that there is something on the hosts that is forwarding/proxying these packets (and only those packets) back to the network it came from, but only
after changing the targetlinklayeraddress in the advertisement. This process is described in
    RFC4389.
One host with this problem on the network will not resolve in a flood. Only when more hosts with this issue are active the flood occurs. It seems that two or more hosts are required to magnify the packets send by the others.
Hyper-V on Windows 8 makes use of a Network Bridge in software to enable the use of wireless network adapters. Is this the cause of all those packets?
Some of the hosts also had Windows Phone 8 SDK installed. The installation of this SDK enables some networks in Hyper-V. Maybe some configuration change is made enabling the proxying of those packets back to the network they came from?
After removing the SDK the hosts are still transmitting too much packets.
The first occurrence of this flood was on the day after Microsoft’s update Tuesday. Is it possible that one of the updates may be the cause of this? There is one mayor update
KB2770917 which includes updates to DHCPv6 and NDIS library’s. Again, removing this update does not solves the problem.
Updating our switch/router to a higher level of firmware may lessen the impact, this is something I can try. But it shall not solve the problem, the switch is not the source of the packets.
Hopefully somebody recognizes this issue. All ideas are welcome.
    Regards,
    Martijn

Hello today we have a little breakthrough. Our Accesspoints are connected to a Cisco C2960S Switch. We have enabled storm control on the switches. This blocks only the multicast packets that were flooding the wireless and the wired network.
We determined this using PRTG snmpv2 connection to the Cisco. Whenever the network flooding was occurring the packets per seconds went in the thousands. We now have put the following code on the Gbit interface: (The last line with the storm-control setting
fixed flooding the network at least partially because the multicast packets cannot leave the Accesspoint to travel to other accesspoints or to wired devices.)
Hope this helps others as well.

  • Solaris 10 Network Install TFTP problem

    Hi,
I tried to create jumpstart through network install with Solaris 10.
I'm running into trouble of TFTP problem when trying to add_install_client.
Here is the error I got:
    ./add_install_client xxx sun4u
svcprop: Couldn't find object for FMRI "network/tftp/udp6:default/:properties/restarter/st ate".
    enabling network/tftp/udp6 service

On the client side, when I do "boot net - install", I get ARP/RARP error, obviously, the TFTP was not set up right on the server.
I could not find tftpd on the server, anyone has any suggestion what I should do to get tftpd running?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
i don't now, why it is like it is, there is no xlm manifest for the smf, but there is a "simple"solution:
edit the /etc/inet/inetd.conf, unremark the line for tftpd. Than, when restarting the inetd with "kill -HUP <prozessnumber of inetd", you get a message in /var/adm/messages:
......... inetd[185]: [ID 702911 daemon.warning] Configuration file /etc/inet/inetd.conf has been modified since inetconv was last run. "inetconv -i /etc/inet/inetd.conf" must be run to apply any changes to the SMF
Just do what it say's: "inetconf -i /etc/inet/inetd.conf", and you get the smf entry:
    # svcs | grep tftp
    online 19:05:27 svc:/network/tftp/udp6:default
now it is online, and you can stop and start it with svcadm.

  • P1102w Can't get Installed On Windows 7 Desktop with wireless

My Laser Jet P1102w has worked find with my children's Window 7 laptops.  My spouse got a Windows machine desktop with wireless and I cannot get it to work with this printer.  I used the disc with the software download.   I get to where you plug it into the computer and it does not recognise it at all.   I checked the USB ports, it sees the flash drive I plug in.  The laptops still see the printer plugged into the USB port.  I uninstalled everything, tried the download on line, unistalled everything, tried it all again, unplugged the printer numerous times to reset.  Any ideas?
I am adding this later in the day:
I got it to work!  I erased all downloads for hp, uninstalled all hp programs, shut down the computer and the printer (also unplugged the printer).  Started up the computer, put the driver disc in, selected the network printer option for wifi, reinstalled without plugging in the printer.  I am so glad it works finally after hours of working on this.  Just wanted to add what worked for any who have this issue.

Hi guys!  Had the same issue with a client.  Just found the solutions brainstorming (and the red bull helped!!)  This is tested on a Windows x64 machine sharing the printer on the network and attempting to connect via a Windows XP machine.  The printer has been previously shared amongst other Windows 7 x64 machine successfully.
The solution is to install the HP Universal Printer Driver - PCL5 version on the machine where the printer is connected locally FOR THE SAME PRINTER THUS CREATING A SECOND PRINTER USING THE UNVERSAL DRIVER.
After downloading the file, it will unzip and start the installation.  Choose the existing printer using the same port ( it will say ie DOT4 - HP Laserjet 2200).  Once it completes, unclick [ ] Set as default and complete the operation.  Now go to the Printers listing.  Under the HP Lasterjet 2200 printer there should be two printers listed - one using the Windows 7 x64 biut driver and the other using the HP Universal driver
Now, on the Windows XP machine, use the same Universal Printer Drviver and find the printer by browsing the network for the computer.  You should see the HP Universal Printer.  Select it and continue with the installation.  Once completed, print a test page.    PRESTO!!!
Hope it works.  In the middle of a my runs so if you need more elaboration, give me a bit to answer back.

  • [Solved] Network problems with MSI GX60 Destroyer, killer newtork LAN and wireless

Hi, I bought a MSI GX60 Destroyer 2 weeks ago, and I realized that my internet was a little slow, you don't realize in the web but when downloading it doesn't perform how it should, I tested the speed now with wireless and I got 5 mb/s, and I have 20 mb/s in my house (I also tested with cellphones and other pc's), with LAN the speed was normal, so I saw some forums about the Killer network, I tried to change the drivers but nothing, the wireless is limited to 5 mb/s and now my LAN too.... please help, my phone has 4x better internet than my GAMING Laptop.
Also the Atheros drivers are a pain in the ass it's really hard to remove them.
I'm now with the drivers without the Management app.

    Hi Tzin,
Which graphics driver are you using?
The quick stream is installed on the notebook with the generic graphics driver from the AMD website.
If you install the AMD's generic graphics driver, you'll find the quick stream program in your Uninstall programs window.(Control Panel> Uninstall a program)
Hi hch , i only can find the "amd cystal manager " under the unintall a program , so when i click into in then only saw the device but dont see the quick stream .

  • -1 (Minus One) Wireless Client Rate for networked PCs with Ariport Express

Trying to figure out connection problems...
Under Airport Utility > Advanced > Logs and Statistics > Wireless Clients...
My MBP gets a Rate 54Mbps when I am beside it in my room, but sometimes drops down to 11 or so and then goes back up. I think this is why I am losing my AirTunes connection.
Both PCs on the network are farther away but are showing a Rate of -1Mbps, even when they are brought into the same room as the APX.
    Any thoughts.

    1. How does the client device know which Airport to connect to?
The Mac computer will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the strongest signal...which is probably the closest AirPort. An iPhone or iPad may not do this and will tend to stay connected to one AirPort.
    2. How can I tell which of the Airports the attached client device is using?
On a Mac, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility. Click on one of AirPorts. In the area to the right, locate the AirPort ID and jot that down. Then do the same for your other AirPort.
Move your Mac near one of the AirPorts and log on to the wireless. Hold down the option key on the Mac while you click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID. That is the AirPort ID of the device to which you are connected.
If you are close to the "remote" AirPort, and you see the AIrPort ID of the "main" router when you are testing, then you know that the network is not configured correctly.
Can I use this second Airport Express to extend the wireless network via "Extended Wireless Network" while the other two are in "Roaming Netowrk" configuration? Without bogging down??
There will be a modest 10-15% bandwidth loss with the "extend" setup, assuming that the Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the AirPort to which it is associated. You can avoid the bandwidth loss if the Express is also connected via Ethernet as part of the roaming configuration.

  • I am having problem with trying to install the printer with wireless connection.i have windows 7

the blue light on top of the printer blinks very fast and intermitenly.  i cannot install the printer with wireless.  I tried with the CD that came with the printer but the green install bar just stops and freezes.  I have a 4 month old Dell laptop.  Printer just purchased from HP is Laser Jet Professional P1102w.

Are there any third party firewalls installed (e.g. Kaspersky, Norton, BitDefender, etc.)?  It sounds like something is blocking the software and third party firewalls have been known to block communication with the printer.
How far in the installation process do you get (what options are you able to get to)?
Is the USB cable connected at the start of the installation?
Do you receive any errors at all?  If so, what are they?
Have you tried using Smart Install?  Smart Install works by connecting the USB cable to the computer.  By default, you should get a prompt to run a file.  Running this file starts the Smart Install process.
This video is a good guide to Smart Install.

  • Impossible connecting with wireless network Netgear WNR 2000

I can not log on to my wireless network (Netgear WNR 2000) with my macbook. My other PC:s work fine and connect always. My Macbook only connect after I have restarted the router. When I use my Macbook in other places I can connect with wireless network. What is the problem?

I'm assuming that you're using the right network password!  After that, the most common causes of difficulty are:
    - The router not set up for DHCP and so cannot allocate an IP address to the MacBook
    - The router has "MAC" Address Authentication (a security feature - don't mistake MAC for Mac[intosh]) turned on and the AirPort MAC address isn't in the pass list.
    - The default "Automatic" location in System Preferences > Networks has been modified so that it no longer works.

  • Qemu - Bridged networking with wireless adapter

How can I use bridged networking with wireless on Qemu virtual machine? With virtualbox it can be easily done. I don't why in Qemu it is so complicated, maybe virtualbox have completely difference mechacnism on this. I've read the wiki, it looks like impossible to use wireless for bridged networking. If it is really impossible, why virtualbox can do it?
And, in arch wiki's qemu manual, i didn't see how to use NetworkManager there to do bridged networking. Since, I use NetworkManager and disable the others (like netct and dhcpcd), it make it even more complicated. But, maybe it's because me that don't understand. Maybe someone experienced here can give me a way around this?

bagol wrote:How can I use bridged networking
It's up to you to set up the bridged network - or use TAP, e.g.:
ip tuntap add dev <devname> mode tap user <youruser>
    ip lin set <devname> up
    ip route ...
    ... and proxy_arp
... and iptables forwarding & masquerade
It's a good learning experience, to set up the network yourself, rather than have VirtualBox do similar things by *magic*

    Hello mom_5_01,
The following article should be quite beneficial in your endeavor to update your iPad.
iPad: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097
You may encounter the following symptoms while updating or restoring your iPad:
iPad continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
An update or restore did not complete and the iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes.
iPad stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If this occurs, you can place iPad into recovery mode and attempt to restore again. If iTunes displayed an alert with an error code, see this article before attempting the steps outlined here.
    Cheers,

    Your AirPort Extreme supports WPA.
WEP is outdated and considered fairly useless, so use WPA.
Be sure you are using AirPort Utility  5.6. If you are not running Lion then use AirPort Utility 5.5.3.
AirPort Utility 6.0 cannot administer 802.11b/g base stations.
