Associating magnet files with firefox and qbittorrent
With firefox 3.x the following entries in about:config worked just fine.
network.protocol-handler.app.magnet type = string value = /usr/bin/qbittorrent
network.protocol-handler.external.magnet type = boolean value = true
network.protocol-handler.warn-external.magnet type = boolean value = false
With 4.0 they don't, and as far as I can see the problem is that 4.0 will not accept "network.protocol-handler.external.magnet type = boolean", because it persistently changes its type to string.
So how do I get magnet links transferred to qbittorrent through firefox 4.0?

I too was trying hard to get it work, and none of them was working, but then i did something accidently ended doing, what '''[email protected]''' had done certainly with a little change.
it didn work at first then, after couple of firefox restarts it asked for application to open magnet. ''firefox 4.''

"network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" changes to false upon closing Firefox

I've tried to troubleshoot why I can't get gmail to work as Firefox's email mailto app for quite a while now. A while ago I stumbled on this solution: I changed the "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" string to true and it worked perfectly. However, now whenever I close my browser, the string returns to "false"--every time--so whenever I click on a mailto link and untitled blank page pops up instead of an email handler. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and have Firefox 3.3.6 installed.

Default external protocol handler not listed as alternative

In Windows I have registered my own handler for an external protocol in the registry. When I click the link in Firefox or Thunderbird I'm shown the "Launch Application" dialog in which I should choose an application for handling the protocol, but the program I've registered as default handler is not listed as an alternative i.e. the only entry in the list is "Choose an Application"
Observations:
* I'm never shown a message stating that the protocol is unknown, i.e. the registry entry is found
* The links works as expected in IE.
* If I register the application to another of my programs I get an entry in the dialog for some programs, but not for others. I haven't found any difference in the programs that would cause them to be listed or not. Icons are never shown in the dialog, although defined in the protocols registry settings.
* If I put an illegal program path in the registry I get an entry in the dialog!?
* The same problem occurs regardless of the protocol identifier I choose
* Behaviour is the same regardless if the protocol is registered under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes
* If I change "network.protocol-handler.warn-external-default" in about:config to false my program is successfully launched when clicking the link
* Currently running on Windows 7 Starter Edition, but the same happens on other versions of Windows 7 and Windows Vista 64-bit as well

I found the cause for the problem. It was caused by the applications version info in my case. My applications are created with Delphi 2010.
If I create a small test project and don't check the project option "Include version information in project", the application is shown in the dialog (actually the applications path and arguments are shown as defined in the registry).
If I check the project option "Include version information in project" the application is only shown in the dialog list if I put text in the FileDescription field.
In my opinion Firefox should always show the application regardless of the version information supplied. If FileDescription is missing Firefox should fallback to using the ProductName or the applications path.

My custom protocol handler isn't working after upgrading from 3.0

Firefox 3.6.7. Updated via RedHat Network.
I'm trying to add a custom protocol handler (gdc) to Firefox. This worked in 3.0 and earlier. Now I'm getting "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (gdc) isn't associated with any program." errors.
Tried adding network.protocol-handler.app.gdc string with valid path. Didn't work. Went to #firefox irc.mozilla.org and was recommended that I add network.protocol-handler.expose.gdc and set it to false. I still get the error.

I have boolean type of value in the database, how to get it as true or fals

I have login page in that only admin can access next page after login. First my problem is only admin must be logged in, so i have used one column named admin, which is nothing but it is BIT type of column. So if it is true then it must allow the admin, otherwise if it is false then it must not redirect to that page. So how can i get that column value whether it is true or false. I have used this method to get the value.

Normally a database stores the boolean value as a 0 or a 1. you may have to check for that or convert the 0,1 to true or false and then check for it.

Assigning External content type field column value using Client Object Model

I have a problem assinging External column value to ListItem object with client object model-based application I'm developing. To be precise, I am able to retrieve data related to external content type by reading external list created from this content type
but I don't know how to properly use it to assign value to this field. By doing some research on my own I concluded that BDC ID column from external list is the way to go since it uniquely defines selected row from external list but that doesn't
tell me much since I don't know what to do with it. Currently I ended up with partial solution - to assign plain string value of picker column but that makes this value visible only in "View Properties" option on Sharepoint and not in "Edit Properties"
which pritty much makes sence since it isn't properly related to rest of the data in specific row. Does someone have a better solution for this?

I think I understand your problem.
In my example I have an external data column "Beneficiary Name", using a Beneficiary external content type (accessing a table of beneficiaries in a SQL table).
I want to set the "Beneficiary Name" property using the client object model. I know the name of the beneficiary but not the ID value.
It is a fairly simple solution. You just need to identify the name of the property SharePoint assigns to the ID field, in my case it is called "Beneficiary_ID". Then set the two properties as follows:
thisItem["Beneficiary_Name"] = "Charitable Trust";
thisItem["Beneficiary_ID"] = -1;
thisItem.Update();
Setting the ID property to -1 causes the server to do an automatic lookup for the ID from the value assigned to the item.

Boolean values

Does anyone know how Q&A handle boolean values? If a dataset includes a column with true/false values, what is the correct syntax for a Q&A query that filters on this value.

I think it will work normally as other columns
for e.g. consider table students with column IsEligible having boolean values
Then Q/A query like "Count of students where IsEligible is true" should work fine and return count of students where IsEligible is true
Moreover If we set a proper data type of column then it should work more intuitive
E.g If we set IsEligible column to have data type as TRUE/FALSE and set word Eligible to be its synonym then Query like "Count of Eligible Students" should also work

Help sought filtering athe results for an external content type.

I have been using resources like

I got the infamous error "Unable to display this Web Part..." that web searches show generally happen when too many results are being returned.
When I set up the Read List operation, I did create a limit filter. The column that has a unique value for each record was selected with a default value of 100. The bits I have read seemed to indicate that would limit the results to 100 records. In
my case, what I was attempting to do should have only returned a few records, so that seemed safe.
Since I am getting the error that people indicate is related to too many records being returned, and I looked using powershell and it seems that the default is 2000 items, the limit filter doesn't appear to be working.
I have read books, web blogs, forum threads and technotes. Unfortunately most of what I have read does not really explain _what_ one is supposed to do in a way that is general. Typically it is all done in terms of some specific example, which perhaps I am
not translating into my specific case appropriately.
Can someone explain the filtering and how the functionality works?

So I am thinking this may not be a limit problem at all. However, the Read List operation, right now, has only one filter parameter - on a column that I have verified has no null entries. There are a lot of columns - and a lot of rows. So I set up a limit
filter with a default value of 100, which I thought would limit the number of records returned to 100.
Perhaps the real problem is something different and it only manifests itself as a null value?
Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Feedback wanted: Imaginary protocol handler

I would like to get some feedback on a protocol handler I am thinking of The protocol I am designing for is stateless and exchanges packets as commonly known. Usually packets contain commands where a header field (byte) determines the command type. I want to delegate an arbitray packet to an handler for that specitic command type.
My first idea was to have command-listeners and to decide in a switch statement which listener to call. Since there are nearly 100 command types, which are ordered in command groups, that switch statement would be v e r y long, error-prone and, well, ugly.
Now I am thinking of a different way - using enums. I'll try to explain this with some code snippets:

Not able to crawl all items from External content type

Hello All,
"All the records in my external content source are not getting crawled, only 1/3 rd of the data are getting crawled."
Steps:
I created "External content type" using sharepoint designer which connects to a SQL Server database.
Have written a SQL View joining 2 tables, which return 9,00,000 rows when executed using the SQL Server management studio.
I used the default "Business Data Connectivity Service" and "Search Service Application" and made sure the necessary permissions are set.
Created a External Content source for the search service application and selected the "Business Data Connectivity Service" -> "Crawl selected External datasource" -> <my external datasource i created in sharepoint designer>
Issue
When i ran the full crawl for the first time it crawled "3,49,923" records in 01 hour and 07 seconds. And returned 1 error "Error crawling LOB Contents.(Error caused by exception: System.InvalidOperationException. There is an error in XML
document...)
Later i removed the below item from the index and started a full recrawl, this time it crawled "3,49,924" records 1 record extra from my previous crawl
and no errors were returned.
Please let me know what could be the issue. It doesn't look like the permission related issues as i am able to crawl the 1/3rd of my total data. Also i am able to search the crawled data. I also set the throtteling limit for the "Business data catalog"
to -maximum 10000000 -default 1000000 which is less than the data it has to crawl.

I started the change suggested in the link shared by you, but got stuck at a point,
The field which i set as identifier in BCS earlier is not having unique values. Total rows returned by the sql view is 899000, but the unique values present in the column that is set as identifier is
3,49,923, which is equal to the number of rows crawled. - Is this the reason why it didnt crawl all records?
The table that is used in the sql view has composite key, - Is it possible to have multiple identifier in BCS as well?
Is it possible to make BCS to ignore the identifier? i mean creating BCS without an identifier column?
Please let me know your suggestions on this.

Yes, BCS needs a UID. This is so it can figure out changes over time to a single record. Otherwise all changes to a row could be a potential new row without BCS knowing any better.
Yes, or just have it run off the composite key instead of the field you're using now.

Filter Dataset based on a boolean value

Hi,
I have implemented a multivalued filter in SSRS,which works fine . Now I am trying to set up a second filter such that based on a boolean condition i would like to filter the dataset based on a series of values.
The boolean parameter is accomplished as :
If the user selects "True" the dataset field "Location" has to be filtered based on 3 values "NY,NJ,DC" . If False is selected no filter will be applied on the dataset . The Parameter name is 'Param_Loc' and of datatype 'Integer'
Can you help me with the Filter expression i have to use here :

Go to Filters in dataset properties-> then in the filter expression do the following stuff
Expression =Select the value from the dataset,In ur case it is
"Location"
Select Type = "Text"
Operator = "in"
Value = IIF(Parameters!Param_Loc.Value=True,"NY,NJ,DC",Fields!Location.Value)
In the above IIF condition what I am doing is passing the filter values if condition is True i.e if Param_Loc is selected .If Param_Loc value is not selected i.e False then u don't want to apply any filter right.So I am passing all the dataset
values in else condition.since 1=1 is universal Truth.

Error - '' is not a valid boolean value

I have been receiving the error message = '' is not a valid Boolean value quite frequently. It doesn’t matter which hierarchy I am in but it’s typically when I do an Add or Insert. When selecting ‘ok’ on the error message, I’m able to continue on with my work but was just curious what causes this error. Sometimes when this error shows up and I click ‘ok’, it will take me out of the DRM screen and into whatever else I may have open at the moment. Any thoughts or ideas? We are on version 11.1.1.2.103

It could be a property incorrectly configured, check all the boolean type properties and see if any of them are getting a string value by any chance.

How to handle multiple exception types in JSF 2?

I'm trying to handle multiple exception types in JSF2, including a default error page for any unexpected exception types. The problems I'm having are:
1) ViewExpiredException is handled only when no generic exception handler is specified
2) "Regular" exceptions like NullPointerException are never handled

Is your data model right? If you are adding in one and deleting in another it sounds to me more like a process that an entity, in which case you may revisit your data model and simplify it, add in a session bean with the process method to co-ordinate between the two.
However, if you want to map multiple different tables within a single entity bean it is possible and just part of the mapping. How you actualyl specify it depends on which implementation you are working with.

How to create an External Content Type with SQL Stored Procedures Parameters and query it in a SharePoint App

I'm new to SharePoint 2013 I want to be able to query a MSSQL database from a SharePoint App I have tried to create an External Content Type (ECT) which is produced from a MSSQL stored Procedure, this procedure has several parameters which are needed to
filter the data correctly. From here I want to produce an external list which I can then query from a c# SharePoint app. If I leave the filters in the ECT null then the list is of course empty or if enter a default values the results are limited
for the app to query so are no good.
I want to dynamically pass values to the ECT when querying from the app, is this not possible. Should I just be returning everything in an external list and then letting the query in the app filter the data, this seems inefficient?
Is this the best way to do this or should I be doing this differently?

When you create a the external content type, please try to add a filter based on your select statement.

Or, try to create a stored procedure based on your select statement, then create ECT using the SQL stored procedure.
