Network slow or not working

We have a small business with 17 Macs (iBooks and iMacs) on the network. We have ethernet and airport. The Macs run either OS 10.5 or 10.6 depending on their configuration. (At this point we cannot upgrade some of the Power PC's to Intel so we are stuck with 10.5). We have two Linksys switches. We use an iMac running 10.6 as our server. We have a dsl line. Lately there are problems with file sharing on the LAN (cannot access the other computer) and then sometimes some computers cannot get on the internet or it runs like molasses. Most of the computers use ethernet although they have airport turned on also. The LAN problem seems to eliminate the DSL line as the culprit. Sometime restarting the server works, sometimes not.
Are there any suggestions as to where to look for the problem, e.g., switches, ethernet cables, airport, dsl, server, etc.
Thank you,
Linda

Lets see, my friend has the same problem so it could be that your anntena is bad. Which would result in going to an Apple store and having it replaced. And if they ask you if you restored just do it and tell them yes. Its just a way for apple to not give you a new iPhone. Good Luck!

  • 1415 fnw printer wireless connection extremely slow or not working with OS X, works with windows

The wireless connection to the printer is either extremely slow or not working at all on OS X Yosemite.  It shows up in the list of printers in Bonjour in Safari, and I can connect to parts of the web interface if I wait a very long time.  However, I cannot add the printer as a new printer in System Preferences even though the printer shows up.
I have upgraded to the latest firmware.  The WiFi indicator on the printer is on, "green", and it has a reserved IP showing up in my router (ComCast).  It seems that Windows machines can printer to the printer wirelessly without a problem.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello @sscotti,
I would like to assist you today with installing your wireless HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer on your Mac OS X 10.10 Computer. Now you indicate in your post that this printer works fine with Windows computers, and you are able to 'see' the Bonjour printer on your Mac. Therefore, the issue that you are experiencing is not network related. Rather, I do believe that you are experiencing a driver conflict on your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Can I please have you run the steps below to resolve this issue.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
First, I'm going to have you 'clean up' your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to verify that any trace of your Laserjet printer is gone so we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please click here and when the website opens select the drop down for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. Run the appropriate uninstall steps for the method in which you originally tried to install your printer: Apple Updates, or the HP Driver download.
Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
Please click here to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.10 drivers for your HP Laserjet printer.
Once the website opens select the 'download' button on the top left
Once the download has completed, please follow the onscreen steps to reinstall your printer.
Once the reinstall is complete, test the print and scan functions to ensure that your printer is functioning as per normal.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should you still be experiencing issues there are additional steps I can have you run through. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
Note:  If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the f2 diagnostic menu instead.
Can you also post back with the following details.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
    2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ).

iTunes download is extremely slow or not working, am I the only one experiencing this, iTunes download is extremely slow or not working, am I the only one experiencing this?

I do not have a solution, just the same complaint.  ***!  !    I just used the iTunes store 2 weeks ago and now, after reviewing everything they asked for including ID/Pass/ Account Info etc.  I can't even get into the store.  I have tried asking at the Mac store and it has all been to no avail.  I was perfectly happy with iTunes before all of this ********... seriously what is the issue with iTunes?  They ask me to upload a new version (with no system specs anywhere that I can find on the page)  and then say it can't utilized because of system inadequacy.  It is exceedingly frustrating.

  • ITunes 7.6.2 and QT 7.4.5 - network sharing still not working

    Hi,
I want to share on my local network my iTunes library which is on a Leopard 10.5.2/Intel computer. The other computer is a G5 running Tiger 10.4.11
It does not work, I'm getting the -3259 error (the shared computer blocks port 3689).
In Leopard I can't just open up a specific port like in Tiger's sharing pref pane. My firewall
settings are "Allow only essential services" with Itunes added as an app that is also allowed.
The other way - from Tiger to Leopard - it works fine, because I can open 3689 for iTunes sharing.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks, Michal

Not sure about opening ports but I have no firewall and I was hoping the new itunes 7.6.2 and QT 7.4.5 would finally fix the streaming video problem. Why is it Front Row works fine for streaming video but itunes still slowly loads the tv show 640/480 size for ipod and it just get's hung and does not play. My work around this is to access my tv show folder and mount it on the remote computer then open the shows in quicktime and it plays almost immediately and you can jump chapters or move to different locations easily within the video that is streaming. Itunes even when it worked did not do that well and if you wanted to get to another part of the video or skip a commercial it was always slow and glitchy. Does not Compute! This started happening with the last two or three updates for itunes. Do Appletv's have this issue with streaming I wonder. Must look at the discussions for that, my guess is no because it is using front row. Cmon Apple this has been a problem for a long time. I think they want everyone to buy an Apple tv and not use their macs hooked up to a tv. My duel 1.8 g5 powermac is hooked up via dvi to my Sony HD tv and thanks to my Radeon 800xt video card and ATI diplays conrtol panel it is perfectly scaled to 1080i resolution with no over scanning. All the menus and dock are where they are supposed to be just as if you were hooked up to a computer monitor. And it does way more than an Apple TV. I am upset that Apple is only offering the HD movies for the apple tv and not for your mac. "Imagine" a new mac mini with blueray and or dvd drive, a real video card, and dvi or hdmi plus hd downloadable movies. That to me would be the dream mac for TV. You could surf anything on the web, play games, do anything you do on your mac now on your tv.
I know I am not supposed to suggest or speculate so I will stop.... but cmon apple and fix this itunes streaming bug that has been around for about eight months or so. I love apple and just bought a new Mac Pro 2.8 8 core arrives tomorrow. If I wanted to hook that up to the tv I will be stuck with the overscan/underscan issue because the new nNvidia Geforce 8800 does not have the drivers or control panel to scale the res to fit the tv. ATI has not upgraded the control panel for intel computers and there is no download available unless you get the latest version that is universal but was written for the duel core g5's.
One last thing. Is there anyone out there that does not have streaming problems with itunes sharing over a wireless network playing 640 /480 h264 videos made for ipod. I have the airport extreme G and two airport expresses G. I do stream audio with no issues via itunes out to my airpost expresses.

  • Scan to network folder will not work for Yosemite

Scan to network folder, which is supposed to allow the unit to scan and save to a shared directory on a remote computer, does not work in Yosemite,  though it will work on Macs sporting earlier OS on same network.
HP personnel have indicated that HP does not support Apple Mavericks. One can only assume then that it will not work on Yosemite either
Yet these units are still being sold to be used with Apple OSX.
Please resolve HP's position.  If these units will not function properly under Mavericks and Yosemite, please explicitly say so.  The scan to network feature should not have anything to do with any OS issue, and it is much more likely that the issue is faulty HP firmware.
If these units are supposed to fully function under Mavericks and Yosemite,  please provide substantive resolution of the many many problems users have experienced.
The Scan to Network feature is what makes using these units viable as scanners. The fact that this works poorly at best, and not at all on any recent Apple OS, is simple acceptable

    IT IS OFFICIAL
HP Case Manager has indicated that HP is abandoning Scan to Network Folder starting with Yosemite as OS security constraints present issues with using its current transport.
Of course this took an hour of double talk and fiddling about before the admission was forthcoming...
Shall we count the days until that information actually shows up in the forums?

    Hi coffee12345,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I have read your post on your wireless keyboard and mouse not working with your desktop, and I would be happy to help you! To begin, I need to ask you a few introductory questions:
What is the Product and Model Number of your desktop?
What version of Windows are you using?
Is this a recent issue, or has it been like this since day one?
Are you using a USB hub to connect your peripherals or is it directly plugged into the computer?
Please re-post with the necessary information, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Std 9.0 + Access 2007 + network connection, PDFMaker not working anymore

    Hello,
when i try to create a PDF file from an Access report, it isn't working anymore when i have a network connection. It worked for months, but yesterday Access 2007 crashed and it asked to deactivate the COM Add-In from PDFMaker and my Co-Worker clicked on yes while i was absent. So even after reactivating the Add-In and reinstalling the whole Acrobat Standard, i can't create any PDFs anymore from Access 2007 while i have a active network connection. When i plug off my network cable, it's working, as soon as i plugin the network cable again, it's not working anymore. And it only happens in Access 2007, PDFMaker in Word, Excel etc is still working fine.
Anyone got some ideas or solutions?
    Best regards
    Chris

Can you create a PDF by printing to the printer? It sounds like you may simply need to do a repair to Acrobat.

  • 2008 R2 GPO - Turn network discovery on not working

    Hi
I'm migrating several computers into a new domain with ADMT but all computer migrated (XP,7 and 8) could not enable network discovery.
I've made a GPO (found on technet) that should work but users still are unable to browse network. Gpo is applied (checked with rsop) and sincerly i've no ideas on what to check to understand why the GPO is not working. Any idea on something to check or change?
I copy the gpo here to check it.. thanks in advance

    Hi,
To enable Network Discovery, we need to make sure that the following dependency services are started on clients:
    DNS Client
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
    SSDP Discovery
    UPnP Device Host
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to for more information.
You cannot turn on Network Discovery in Network and Sharing Center in Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2722035
We can use group policy to control these services.

  • Repair Permissions: Slow or Not Working?

Is the Repair Permissions function in Leopard NOT working, or just incredibly slow (and progress not showing properly)? Some would report that it IS working, but takes a long time, sometimes even a few hours. Any experiences?

    "I'm having trouble with Parallels".
My new MBPC2D with OSX.5 worked fine, until I ran Parallel with Bootcamp partition. OSX.5 won't start anymore, since it is in an indefinite start up loop, before ever getting to a blue screen. Starting on XP works fine, as does an OSX.5 back-up on a FW disk.
So I did a complete re-install. As before everything worked fine until Parallels and Bootcamp. Same miserable result. What to do? Permissions repair does not complete while running the book hot.
I bought the new book for running OSX and XP at reasonable speed in the first place!

  • Lenovo U350 - Windows 7 - Network (LAN, WiFi) not working

    Hi
My WiFi is not working on my new computer Lenovo U350. I have pressed FN+F5, but it says I have to turn on the switch. Where is this switch??
I've tried to reinstall the network drivers as well...

Look on the left side of the laptop, in front of the USB port. There is a slide switch there.
Page 4 of the users manual shows a picture. Look here: http://consumerdl.lenovo.com.cn/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/U350/Lenovo%2...

  • Windows Network Shares do not work properly

Ever since installing LEOPARD (now running 10.5.2) my network shares on our Windows server are not working properly. I can connect in the office via cifs:// and the share appears. I cannot copy a file to the share. I get the following message:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
There is an icon with a size of 0kb on the share, and if I try to open it or trash it, I get a message telling me it is in use by the MAC OS. I can open a file from the share, but if I try to save it back to the share or save from an application I get a "There has been a network file permission error."
If I try to copy the file to my desktop. I get a message that tells me that I don't have permission.
If I try to connect using https:// I get a username or password not valid message. Both of the connection methods worked BEFORE I installed LEOPARD. The install was a clean install, not an upgrade. I NEED to be able to access the shares for my work. The shares are on a server running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
How can I solve this? I actually have administrator privileges on the server with my login credentials, but this does not seem to matter.

Experiencing the same exact problems here. Brand new Mac Pro on a Windows 2003 Server network. Somehow I don't think it is any rights problems in my case, as I can create and erase folders (created by me or others), and the Mac writes the .DS_Store files to the server...
However, if I try to copy a single file or a folder containing files to the server, I get only a 0k file (inside the folder if I copy a folder) and after a while an error message saying the same things William Colvin2 mentions above (not sufficient privileges).
Everything I have read seems to indicate that there is huge problems with Leopard with regard to this, and if that is true, they need to be fixed ASAP. I think I've tried and tested all the possible "solutions" (disabling SMB digital signature, GPO policies, disabling IPv6...) but still no solution in sight.
Can we get some info from Apple on this whether it's being worked on, or what we can do to SOLVE this problem? As far as I know, Windows 2003 Server hasn't changed in that respect recently, whereas OSX has gone from 10.4 Tiger to 10.5 Leopard...
Any help with solving the problem is greatly appreciated, so feel free to respond with anything that might be helpful. I would also be interested in hearing from people who have HAD this problem, but has gotten them solved. And if so, what solved it for you.
    Thanks in advance.
